I would give Dr. Cho a 100 stars if Yelp would let me! My fabulous OBGYN, Dr. Fujioka, is the one who referred me to Dr. Cho. My geneticist/specialist at Kapi'olani Breast Center also knew of Dr. Cho and held him to such a high regard. I am not a cancer fighter, rather, I am being monitored because I am at high risk due to my mother dying of breast cancer. Dr. Fujioka referred me to Dr. Cho for breast reduction surgery because I would constantly complain about my breasts being just way too large, my back aches, my neck and shoulder aches, and my persistent headaches. It was also difficult to exercise to get off the weight of my fifth child. I had a love/hate relationship, but mostly hate, with my breasts from the time I started developing (about 10 years old). It prevented me from playing sports and made me extremely self-conscious.
I always thought of having a breast reduction surgery but put it off because I was deathly afraid of doctors and hospitals. I practically grew up in hospitals because my mother fought cancer for 4 1/2 years before she died when I was 10. My father died of lung cancer (no he didn't smoke a day in his life) when I was young. But, after having a physically demanding job then having 5 children (with sciatic pain progressively worse with each child), I felt I couldn't put off the surgery any longer despite my intense fear for medical procedures.
The most amazing thing about Dr. Cho was his ability to put me at ease. His cool, calm, collective demeanor allowed me to put my anxieties aside and put my trust in his hands. A day before my surgery, he did my markings, coming from a family of artists, I noticed that he looked at my body as if it was a blank canvas. It was then that I mentioned that, "this must be like art to you?" He replied that this is exactly what it was to him, an art or craft, that I could easily see he is passionate about and takes great pride in. As ignorant as this may sound, I did not read his personal bio prior to my surgery. In fact, I stayed away from a lot of information for fear that I may back out of my decision. I believe Dr. Cho has a unique understanding of his patients, which makes him such a fantastic surgeon! Even my pre-op nurse told me that, "that is one doctor I would let operate on me!"
Dr. Cho possesses all the positive elements of a great doctor. As previously mentioned, he is trustworthy, soothing, and pays attention to detail. But in addition to that, he is beyond professional, considerate, patient, knowledgeable, honest, alert, compassionate, dedicated, committed to excellence, always aware of my concerns, and he's kind of funny too. His nurses, Tessi and Lorna and his entire staff, made me feel warm and cozy, like family!
As far as my end results, it is WAY better than what I expected. The post surgery pain was not as bad as I thought it would be. My pre-surgery day to day pain has diminished. The overall final appearance is absolutely outstanding. And I can be more physically active without all the pain. Lastly, i can stand a little prouder than I could before. I cannot thank you enough, Dr. Cho and staff! But I truly didn't expect anything less!
I would highly recommend this doctor...especially to the ones you love!
