My 1st time having Lunch at David Chen , I wanted to try a new place. The restaurant building is big , when you walk in, the seating area is half the building, there's plenty space for parking, I see a downstairs; party room perhaps? I was hoping for some authentic traditional Dim Sum entrees, but they did not have Dim Sum dishes, just spring rolls, shumai, wonton soup. Their menu has alot of traditional dishes that I'm familiar with. I ordered the steam dumpling, it was big & doughy, not feeling it, the shumai was ok, the pan fried chicken was good, fresh vegetables , they substituted the noodles, that I'm not custom in that particular dish, the Singapore mei fun was average with fresh veggies . The good thing about this place was the portion of the dish very generous. I went during lunch so service was quick and fast. . The place was dark , there were 2 other couples having lunch, so they didn't turn on the lighting. Base on the photos , the food and scenery looks vibrant and alive during dinner time. . They have alot of Asian culture decorations, they been In the community for 32 yrs; It's time to make adjustments and update the inside . Another fabulous lunch here! It started off with crispy noodles with a hot mustard, followed by hot and sour soup which was spicy and delicious. For entrées, we ordered the three amigo and The four treasures with garlic sauce, Accompanied by fried rice. Both entrées were delicious! The shrimp and scallops in the four treasures were so fresh and absolutely delicious. I also loved the steak from there three amigo. Extremely tender and perfectly cooked. It's become my policy to check recent Yelp reviews before going to a new restaurant. David Chen had a lot of negative entries, mostly because of poor service and bad attitude. My group decided to roll the dice anyway, and I'm glad that we did. It was a Saturday night and we had reserved a table. We were seated immediately. So far, so good. Unfortunately, we were seated near the door and every time someone came in or left, we would be treated to the frigid temperatures outside (it was in the teens that evening). The dining room is kind of small, so it was kind of unavoidable. Service? Spotty. It took quite a while for someone to come over to take our order, and our drinks didn't show up for about 15-20 minutes. When they did, my wife's Japanese soda was equipped with a contraption that requires a masters of engineering to open. I eventually went up to the bar to get help. Once we got our food, we were all very pleased, but let's get the complaints out of the way first. The wonton soup was not very good. The broth was practically clear. Also, the house tea lacked strength and taste. Now onto the plusses, of which there were many. The egg roll, though a tad on the greasy side, was flavorful and crisp. My diced chicken with walnuts was excellent. My wife loved her crispy shrimp and chicken dish, and our companions likewise were happy with their choices. In addition to our meals, we ordered some shrimp fried rice for the table. It was excellent. At many places, fried rice needs soy sauce, but that was not so here. And though I doubt many people come here for alcohol, my friend and I each ordered Pina Coladas that were outstanding. I get why people are not thrilled with the service, but it didn't really bother us. I would say that if you come, understand that their strong point is superior food, good portions, and reasonable prices. Over the years, we've been to David Chens and have always enjoyed it. We had not visited for a while and thought we'd visit. The parking lot seemed quite empty despite the time (5pm). Inside looked as beautiful as always. There were three occupied tables when we arrived. We were quickly seated and brought hot tea and menus. I chose chicken with cashew nuts and my husband had the shredded spicy pork. My dish seemed a bit dried which was strange, but otherwise tasted ok. My husband's dish was not spicy and he said tasted almost sweet. He only had a few bites and refused to eat more. He was afraid the pork was bad. Our waiter was pretty much MOA during the meal. When he did finally appear, my husband told the waiter he didn't like his dish and did not want to take it home. The waiter didn't seem to care. Not what we had ever experienced before at David Chen. Just had another office party at David Chen. We've had several but I had forgotten what a great job they do. They have a special setup for a private party downstairs. They always do such a wonderful job and everything goes so smoothly. They are able to provide a great buffet with many choices, with special accommodations for vegetarians. All the food is hot and delicious, from beef, chicken, seafood, eggrolls, fried rice. They are so easy to work with. Susie is always so helpful. Highly recommended. read more

I like David Chen; I think the atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxed; the service is friendly and attentive; the food is tasty and well-portioned. Inside, the tables are at a reasonable distance from each other, allowing you some privacy. It seems this would be good for customizing seating arrangements for multiple large groups as well. Paradise Chicken - The chicken was good -- white meat deep-fried, with a sweet and sour sauce and vegetables. I thought the chicken itself was very good (flavorful and really tender), but I wish there was a bit less breading; this is more of a suggestion than a gripe. Someone told me this place is their fave Chinese food in Westchester.... It wasn't terrible and the value is great-- huge portions for lunch special price on the weekend. But 2 stars since have definitely had much better. The chicken in both entrees was not tender enough... One piece couldn't even chew. The food was not terribly oily, but definitely more oily than my liking. They got the order wrong so when we went back in to correct it, they all started fighting among themselves on who messed up the order. Didn't mean to start a fight! I went here for the first time a couple weeks ago, not impressed. The food was just so, so and took a really long time to come out. There was also only one waitress working, so placing our order also took a long time. But beyond anything else, the place wasn't very clean. Everything was dusty and greasy. Even the menu was dirty. You would think that because the pages are laminated it wouldn't be difficult to keep them clean. But apparently no one bothers to wipe them down and make sure they're not sticky, disgusting. Last night's takeout... The Orange Chicken was absolutely horrible! ...super tiny pieces of chicken, drenched in terrible tasting frying oil! ...with no hint of orange! Also, the 6 egg rolls were very oily (inside & mostly outside) and tasted of the same, very bad frying oil! The pork ribs were dry (not juicy at all!)! I will never return. Always a good meal until 2 weeks ago. My shrimp dish had little taste and were not firm (the shrimp are usually the best around) and my guests chicken chow mein (how basic can you get) was also substandard. I used to order from David Chen's back in the 1990's when I lived in Mt. Kisco, and loved it. I recently moved my office to Armonk and went there today for lunch with an old school buddy, and it was absolutely amazing. With all these new Asian Fusion, fancy pants places these days, Chen's has managed to keep up an extremely high standard and the food was amazing! We each had a soup, fried dumplings, and two mains that was way more then enough but was so good we ate almost all of it. We also had two drinks ( which were also well made), and the bill was 80 dollars. Our server was extremely accommodating, a great sense of humor, and made us feel really comfortable from start to finish-- I will add I almost never write reviews-- but this was a great experience--will plan on MANY MANY returns! read more

first off the food is good. some not so much but mostly it falls into the good category. However the service is terrible. it is consistently bad. Two of our table received their meals in somewhat of a long time from ordering but not bad. Two others at our table waited 15 minutes. our waiter was nowhere to be seen. it finally arrived. without the rice that was ordered. still cannot locate our waiter. Got hold of another waiter passing by and he brought the rice. before this we went there with another couple and the restaurant was freezing. the guests and wait staff had their coats on. I asked if they could turn up the heat but was told it was already in. Hey, why waste money on heating. this was a cold day in November. The place is always busy because there is plenty of parking, the food is not bad, and there are few Chinese rests around. just accept the fact that the wait staff has a hard time with English, the owner doesn't care to hear complaints and the service is slow. read more

Food was horrible. I ordered a Malaysian curry with shrimp and chicken. All I could taste was sugar, my friend, ordered a dish with crab meat, scallops and shrimp. There was no crab meat which they said you were supposed to know even though it was not on the menu, they supposedly put some lobster in it. I'm really surprised to read the negative reviews. I have been eating here for years - typically lunch with friends or family on a Saturday. The food is very tasty and abundant. I have never taken out and only had dinner once and find the lunch prices a much better deal. I live in Southern Westchester and David Chen's by far has been very consistent with their dishes. I have not eaten here in more than a year but most of the complaints/negative reviews seem to be earlier than my experiences. Unless there's a snow storm I will be eating here this coming weekend and will edit my post. In the meantime I can highly recommend the shrimp with walnuts. Tons of crispy shrimp with walnuts in a glazed sauce. Not that nasty creamy mayo dressing so many places put on shrimp with walnuts. I'm updating my review after eating there with 4 family members on Saturday. I stick with my 4 star rating. The shrimp with walnuts was as good as I remember. Large shrimp in a delicate sauce with lots of flavorful walnuts. My daughter got the sesame scallops which was very good. The soup along with bowls of noodles on the side were delicious and it's good to see a Chinese restaurant put hot tea on the table without asking and without charging for it. Both my Mom and Aunt got the Three Amicos and if it wasn't for the heavy cornstarch flavor still residing in the beef slices of their dish I may have given the restaurant another 1/2 star. I decided to give this restaurant another try because they have been around a while. Stopped in on a Friday night and the place was empty. My order was for chicken chow mein, eggrolls, fried rice, won ton soup, ribs, steak w broccoli and some white rice. I cannot begin to tell you how disappointing this food was! The chicken in the chow mein tasted old and freezer burned. NO FLAVOR to the veggies. The pork fried rice had a chemical taste and the egg rolls were so greasy I couldnt keep them down.
