I brought my vehicle in for an oil change. I had scheduled this appointment and given my information two days before. The guy at the desk said okay, I'll give you a call when it's done. Three hours late I go back due to receiving no phone call. Same guy says it's done. He charges me for the oil change and, i would later find, windshield wiper fluid I did not ask for. This is the second time he's done this, but I let it go. As he hands me the keys he mentions "Your breaks should be good for another few oil changes." I think it's a bit odd for him to mention the breaks. I take the keys and drive less than a mile away. He also tried to "fix" my license plate. The top left screw is stuck, and me nor any of my other friends could get it out for fear of breaking the actual car plastic. I had my plate secured by a screw on the right corner, slightly askew. Tight enough to hold it in place and not move. The guy who worked on my car had bent the license plate over the top left screw and secured it with one opposite to the one I had holding it. As it appears he could not get it out either. I did not ask for this. I can see he was trying to help, I would have rathered he left it be or ask than to bend the plate over the screw. The next time I restarted my car the brake light is on. I check the fluid, it is fine. I call ahead of time and schedule them to be looked at. The car was brought in. I detailed "Brake light on after being seen for just an oil change Just brake light, flashing continuously, no instances where it stops. I can feel it working though when engaged and disengaged. Would like a refund on wiper fluid" He popped the hood and checked the fluid. He was told it was just in for just an oil change. He took out a scanner and scanned the codes. When asked what they were he ignored the request. He checked around the car and got on the ground on the back driver side to look at the breaks for about three minutes. He went back to the hood, cleared the codes. He says "Hey I just cleared the code, if it pops back up bring it back into the shop. The only thing I can think of is it being the break actuators, however it could just be the computer being weird." When asked for the code again there was no response. When mentioning the refund for the wiper fluid as just an oil change was requested he says "this was nothing we did, it's the cars fault due to its computer." "over three dollars?" and "This is fVcK3d up." He then gave cash and stormed in. Two days later my brake light is back on. read more

Dave's is a solid place. We took our car there thinking that we had a much bigger problem than we did, but Dave's didn't take the opportunity to rip us off or sell us on something we didn't need. We paid a lot less than we thought we would and the service was quick and friendly. read more

Dave's Friendly is not friendly. Yeah, they smile at you while ripping you off. I went to this place a few too many times a few years back. Whenever I would bring my car in, they would always recommend services I didn't really need. When I would get my car back and look at the bill, smaller services were added without my permission so that they could squeeze an extra 20 or 30 bucks out of me. Their prices are outlandish. One time I had them flush out my wiper system. They charged me 150 dollars! If I just needed something small done on my car I would bring my car in at 8am and would have to wait all day till 5 or 6pm until my car was fixed, and I HAD TO CALL THEM TO SEE WHEN MY CAR WAS READY. Sometimes they would keep my car for 2 to 3 days in the shop for their own convenience. Their car repair estimates were a joke. What would start out as $300 dollars would end up being $600 dollars. They would also intentionally break things under the hood. I would get my car back, and almost immediately have something else malfunction a week later. Burden of proof type of shit. Ka Ching! $$$ They even once tried to renege on a repair warranty. The son who works the front desk is all smiley while trying to get more money out of you and feigning hospitality. I saw the owner, DAVE one time at a nearby store. I said hello, but he couldn't look me in the eye. He was all shifty eyed when talking with me. Could that have been his guilty conscience for ripping people off? Mmmm... Please avoid going to Dave's Friendly repair shop. They will suck you dry, no pun intended. Chances are that when you go to a place that claims to be friendly, you will pay for that "friendly." I don't want a mechanic who is friendly. I'm not there to swap spit with him. I'm there to get my car fixed right without having to put the mechanic in my will. read more

It is funny, but everyone has their own experiences of taking their auto's at this place for repair. I read that some like working with this business, taking their cars there and loving it. But, if you are like me, I had a bad experience and even though it happened at least 5 years ago, I never will forget it and I will not recommend this business. I have a Ford Excursion with a diesel motor in it. I needed an injector replaced and I called Dave's friendly service and they said they could do the repair. I asked them for an estimate of repairs and they quoted me about $400 dollars. I went ahead with the repair and what was supposed to be a one day repair, in and out, took almost a week and it cost me $1,400 dollars! Each time I called them, they gave me a story about how this and that was wrong with my excursion and each time the price authorization they kept asking me to accept went up. At some point, you are screwed. You can't say, stop and just bill me for what you have done, because the work isn't finished and the auto is not fixed. So, you are at their mercy and you suck it up and deal with it. Since that time, I have had to replace other fuel injectors and I go to a shop that charges me a bit more per hour, but they do the same repair for about $500 dollars or less. When I complained to the front office guy who runs the books, schedules the service, etc., you could tell that this was their money making strategy. They low ball the repair estimate and then, bill you through the nose for items that now require additional attention. I asked them to replace the injector, but they noted and tried to get me to fix an oil leak, get new brakes, flush out my radiator, and the list went on and on. Please, don't nickel and dime me and look to upselling me on additional work. Watch out on this one! I am a fan of taking your auto to STS tires in Phillipsburg. Danny is the manager and he's friendly to work with and they can do a lot of routine maintenance things, plus they have a good selection of tires. I have had them do a lot of repairs on my cars at STS and I have found them to always be fair, fast and "friendly." Do not go to Dave's Friendly Auto. Be aware. Oh, and to the other reviewer that said they like the ability to log on and check the status of their car, let me ask you, "Who do you think is paying for that service? That's right, you and me. And, I personally don't want to log on and read the status of my auto repair. I have too many other things to do with my day than check up on my auto repair. I prefer to have them call me when it is ready and just have it fixed and be close to budget. Anything else is over kill and just the type of something that is not necessary! read more

Jeremy at Dave's saved me the first time I used their shop. It wasn't cheap, but they could have really socked it to me and didn't. I started using Dave's for oil changes for me, and odd jobs for my wife's car. Dave's should stick to oil changes. They never want to look at your car unless they're hurting for work. They seem proud of it. "All that dealer inspection stuff is crap" I was told. So I was surprised when they recommended a real axle seal in December. That, and spark plugs. They had "some trouble" with my truck, and despite having it the whole day, it wasn't ready. My truck apparently had a "weird brake cable" which Jeremy admitted that they weren't sure about. My truck sat in the garage stall, half finished, for the mechanic to finish the next day. (They didn't even call me to tell me it wasn't ready; I got dropped off and my ride left before I knew it wasn't ready). I got my truck the next day. Soon after, my truck experienced 'surging' off the line, like at a light. I chocked it up to the computer needing reset. I heard some odd noises, but again, trusted the professionals at Dave's. I brought this up at my next oil change but they could not find anything wrong. The imaginary noise became louder, until my kids and wife even heard it. I checked the front end myself, and didn't notice anything wrong except a lot of surface oil on my engine and around my A-arms. I brought it back to Dave's. They 'fixed' the noise by bending out the disc brake backing plates. And changing the oil even though it wasn't due for another 1500 miles (Those computers in the truck lie, I was told). I also asked for a tire rotation. The truck was just as noisy coming out as going in, except I was $80 poorer. I was going on a trip and needed the truck tip-top, so I went back to the local Chevy dealer. They diagnosed the truck with a leak in the transfer case, a leak in the oil cooler line, and a damaged rear axle and bearing. The first two were just omissions by Dave's, but the third should have been caught by them (if they didn't fail to put it together correctly to begin with). I also had the dealership reset the tire pressure computer that Dave's failed to reset when they rotated the tires. I had a lot of fun troubleshooting a nail in the tire, looking for the wrong tire! I had all this fixed by the dealer, then went back to Dave's today to tell him what I found. Jeremy was "sorry that I'm disappointed" but told me that the fact that they did the service in December on the rear bearings/axles had nothing to do with what is going on now (and any correlation is "BULLSH*T!") Jeremy told me that "trucks are machines, and machines break." He never say any of the leaks that the dealership showed me pictures of (and I saw the evidence for myself before I even went to the dealer). At best, Dave's is a oil change place. At worst, they are inept. I pay for someone to check out my truck and keep it maintained well. I want to like Dave's - I really do. I feel slighted even more than the thousands of dollars I'm out (without my truck even fixed 100% yet) by someone who won't take any responsibility. Someone I trusted. If Jeremy didn't see a leak, there was no leak. It must have happened in the 3 day span where I left Dave's and went to the dealership. When you hear Jeremy boast about not doing the 100 point inspections like the dealers do, wonder what is really going on with your car or truck. I would never trust Dave's Friendly service with any work on my vehicle. You should always double check the work they do and never let your guard down. I did, and I am sorry. read more
