You are guaranteed to waste time AND money at Davenport Customs. Davenport Customs is a pathetic excuse for a "business". My wife and I wasted 11 months of our lives and over $4000 at this customs shop, with nothing positive to show for it. During this 11-month period: we took plenty of constant back-and-forth, useless trips to Davenport just to TRY to correct the incompetent audio job that was initially performed (a job that was supposed to have been completed with just 2 weeks of labor). In the end, the job was still never corrected by Davenport due to incompetence and lack of knowledge. I was forced to go to a different Customs shop (Dreamworks Motorsports) to properly redo all of the low-quality work that was performed by Davenport. What's funny is that Jimmie Davenport suggested the other Customs shop to us - because Jimmie was not capable of diagnosing the audio issue that he created and he knew the other Customs shop had real professionals that were capable.
If you are looking for quality custom work, I urge you to look into the nationally famous "Dreamworks Motorsports" (located in Roxboro, NC). Dreamworks Motorsports offers much more diverse custom services than Davenport, and will deliver the work at a MUCH higher quality level.
The owner of Davenport Customs, Jimmie Davenport, is a lying, deceitful snake that is extremely incompetent in his field. In comparison to his peers, he is misinformed and lacks the proper knowledge to do his job. We asked for top-of-the-line audio products; we were very clear that we wanted audiophile quality. Jimmie swayed us away from the Focal Audio company (a company well-known for audiophile quality) and convinced us that Memphis Audio would be the superior choice - that we would mainly be paying just for the name/brand recognition if we went with Focal. We made it clear to him that we wanted the best/top-of-the-line audio products that Memphis had to offer. Jimmie reassured us that he would definitely give us the best of Memphis Audio, in consideration of our audiophile desires. We later found out that the products we were given were actually not top-of-the-line within the Memphis line. We were deceptively given inferior M-class Memphis products, instead of Memphis SixFive products (the SixFive Series product line represents the best of Memphis). Jimmie does not give the customer what the customer wants, and he is willing to falsely advertise and deceive the customer about what he is giving.
In addition to deceptively passing off inferior audio products, Jimmie was not even able to install the inferior products properly. He installed our power reference amp in a configuration that blocked the vents of the amp. Because of this incompetent installation, the amp was not receiving the proper thermal regulation. As soon as the summertime hit, we started encountering overheating issues with the amp. The amp would go into thermal protection mode and cause the system to clip. Jimmie personally spent 6 months failing in trying to determine the cause of the issue and was repetitively unsuccessful and incompetent in his attempts. He even joked with us that he should close down his shop because of how many times he failed miserably and because of how he was completely bewildered about what the issue could be. It's not a joke though; he really should close down his shop because he is by no means a professional.
After many useless trial-and-error trips and wasted purchases on unnecessary equipment - we realized that Jimmie was not competent enough to determine the cause and/or solution to the issue. He was incorrectly convinced that the amp was going into protection mode for power-related reasons, even though he previously reassured us that we should have more than enough power for the system he installed. He was not even aware that the amp could go into protection mode for thermal reasons - as he never once looked into or mentioned the temperature of the amp.
After spending just 1 day (1 hour of labor) at Dreamworks, Dreamworks was able to scientifically determine and confirm the cause of the issue with the help of a thermal gun. The amp would go into protection mode every time it went above a certain temperature (we witnessed this behavior first-hand). In addition to quickly diagnosing the issue, Dreamworks was also able to quickly propose the proper solution. They suggested re-configuring the amp so that the vents weren't blocked and adding a squirrel-cage fan to help keep it cool. We confirmed that this proposed solution worked with all of our original equipment (the equipment that Davenport was completely incapable of getting to work).
When we confronted Jimmie about the false advertisement of the products he provided and his incompetent installation, he was completely unwilling to take ownership and looked to blame everyone but himself. He was completely unwilling to honor his supposed warranty of products and services, because he has no honor. read more
