I needed to replace a tire on my bike and with these guys less than a block from my house I chose the path of least resistance. I was doing the work myself and all I needed was the rim liner. It was pouring rain the morning I came in. There was one employee working and he was helping a customer so I patiently waited. And waited. And waited. The employee completely ignored me, didn't say hello, didn't ask what I needed, or didn't give me any signal that the repair he was working on was going to take a while. Just as I was about to leave in frustration from standing there stupidly someone else (Dave I'm guessing) popped his head out from around a corner asking if I had been helped. When I said "no" he rolled his eyes realizing the fact that I had been ignored by the other employee. I told him what I was looking for and he grabbed it off the wall. I didn't know they were cash only so I ran quickly to the ATM. By the time I came back, the first employee was freed up and processed my payment. By processed I mean, used every ounce of his brain power to figure out my change as they don't have a cash register to tell him the correct answer. Of the many, many times I've walked by this store they're always busy. Based on my experience though, I can't understand why. Maybe just a bad day to visit.

Reliable service at a reasonable price. Plus Dave has been around for 30 years. He's the real deal.

Unfortunately my Co2 inflator malfunctioned: I had a repaired tire but no air. A quick online search showed that Dream Cyclery was just a few blocks away. I knew as a reputable shop that they would have air available for those who need it in a pinch. And yes, as I arrived, there was the air hose as I had hoped. Noticing it was only Schraeder-ready I went into the shop to borrow an adapter and say thanks for the rescue. No thanks needed. Just 5 bucks. That's right, any cyclist with Presta valves must pay for the tiny brass adapter in order to use the "free air." The staffer seemed embarrassed to be charging me $5 for a piece that costs no more than a nickel. With the next nearest bike shop a significant walk away, I had no other choice. How chintzy is that! It wouldn't be so obnoxious if they were charging a dollar to cover the cost of providing them, or asking for a donation to a favourite charity (Cycle Toronto?) but this feels likes mean-spirited gouging. Looks like a nice shop. Sorry I will not be visiting again.

Next thing I know, I was charged $140 with the work already started without calling me. I had no choice but to accept it since they already started the work. I was told they would contact me when the bike is ready. Several days later, I called due to no contact. I was told the bike was already done and apologized for not contacting me. When I went to pick up the bike I noticed that gear shifter caps were not put back on (which I had removed and provided to them in a ziploc bag). When I asked about it, I was told they didn't have the right screw. The shifter was a standard Shimano shifter, not some exotic custom shifter. For a bike shop to say they don't stock screws for a common standard equipment is shocking and, frankly, unacceptable. I will not be using Cycle Solutions again. Good thing another shop opened up on Kingston Rd in the Upper Beaches. Cycle Solution is getting way too complacent.

Despite being crystal clear that I wanted to ride upright. I could not easily reach the handlebars and was crunching forward awkwardly. I returned to the store many times for unsuccessful adjustments. Finally Batemans said nothing that could be done. I also had to return for other shoddy work: the basket was mounted so close to seat, it was not possible to sit on it; in one unsuccessful attempt to fix the main problem, the shifter was twisted so it could not be reached and the brakes were angled too far down to access; one of the tires kept going flat; the kick stand interfered with bike function etc. As a last resort, we went to Bloomfield Bicycle Company in Prince Edward County which had been very helpful with our old bikes. I learned that the medium bike frame sold to me by Bateman's is too large/long for my height. Bloomfield were able to replace the handlebars with ones I could reach sitting upright. They also said the grips were too long and large for my hands, and had been installed improperly. They replaced the plastic white clip ties holding the basket which they thought were dangerous and could snap with black metal clamps. It was very time consuming and costly to go to Prince Edward County since we had to stay overnight in and pay for accommodation. But I can now ride my bike comfortably. I found them online and I rifled through their Google reviews and after seeing so many positive reviews, I decided to try them out and I can honestly say, without any hesitation whatsoever, that this is definitely my go-to bike shop! The staff are not only extremely friendly but they speak in a language that you understand--if you're a little more technical, they can elaborate in jargon you're used to--if you're not so technical, they not only explain in a language that you'll understand but they make realistic recommendations and will not try to gouge with unnecessary parts or services and everything is very reasonably and competitively priced!
