This review is for John at the 16 St/Camelback location. The frame/bezel of my monitor cracked and became misaligned and pulled away from the keyboard section of my laptop. I could see some of the laptops "guts" through the gap. Wires, etc. for most of the computers components are "routed" thru the bezel. Apparently this is not an uncommon problem for laptops. John the technician initially indicated the repair might take a couple of weeks since the part is not a common one for an older model. Long story short, the part flew right over, John jumped right on it, and the laptop was ship shape in just 4 days. I commend John for his technical expertise, communication, and hustle. I've been a customer of Data Doctors for many years and this is just one more positive experience. read more

Professional, Friendly, Knowledgeable The display on my five-year-old Dell XPS 13 went black. Although I could still hear it operating in the background, the display remained dark. I first took my laptop to a small independent 5 star Yelp rated repair shop near me. After 10 days, this shop finally told me that my laptop was not repairable and I needed to buy a new one. Before buying a new laptop, I sought a second opinion from Data Doctors (Central Phoenix - 16th St. & Camelback Rd.). For $59, DD examined and diagnosed my laptop. DD found that it only needed a new display, a fraction of the cost of a new laptop. DD ordered and installed the new display in a few days. I was able to pick up my computer quickly, and it is operating very well. I worked mainly with Josh, and I highly recommend him, He was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and made it easy to understand what was needed. Steve was great - had a fan failure on and old computer. Asked if maybe I should upgrade. He cloned my old Win 10 system to the new one then added a virtual machine and cloned my old XP machine onto the new one as well. Wow! Super simplified my life. Got rid of my ancient hardware and saved all my XP bought and paid for software. Took it home and all my attached hardware worked like a charm. Could not be happier with the results. Best computer money I ever spent. System is lightening fast and I can run my XP CAD and MS Access 97 software while I'm running my Win 10 apps. Bravo for Steve and Data Doctors. Successfully transferred all my data AND they helped me reconfigure Window 8.1 into a format more similar to the Windows 7 that I love. Their new location is very nice and the techs are still great! If I could I would give Data Doctors more than five stars. They have been my go-to computer place for a couple of years and I couldn't be happier with the results every time. Robert is always so nice and helpful and patient when I ask questions. Nate came to my house to service my printer as I couldn't get it printing after buying a new computer. He not only got my printer working but did some other things that needed doing and I loved his time spent at my house. Both guys are number 1 in my book and I'm hard to please. I would NOT reccomend taking your computer to Data Doctors! I hear there is a small privately owned computer shop on 24th St and indian School that gets great reviews. Data Doctors looked over my laptop for 20-30 mins in the store (20th/Camelback) and then the tech told me he would have to send it to the Tempe main lab for full assessment. $100 to take it in and figure out what the problem is. I got a call 3 days later from someone else stating they just recieved my laptop and were going to look at it the next morning, so apparently it takes them 3 days to send my laptop from downtown Phx to downtown Tempe. The next day I got a call saying they basically have no clue what the issue is but that they are going to reinstall windows and see if that takes care of the problem. That will cost me an additional $200 to reinstall windows!! At this point I feel like I am trapped because I have already spent $100 bucks and they have the computer. I reluctantly agree to basically pay $300 to have windows reinstalled in my 2 year old laptop. When will I get it back? How long could that possibly take, right? Well, 3-5 days he says. it will take 3-5 days to reinstall windows into my laptop and that is "putting it ahead of 30 other computers for me." The guy is now acting like I should feel lucky that he is putting mine ahead of others because otherwise it could take 2 WEEKS?! 2 days later I get a call that it is done and seems to be working just fine. It will be back in the Phoenix store for me to pick up 2 1/2 days later... Finally, I get my computer back after 2 weeks and $300. Oh well, at least it is all fixed now, right? WRONG. Now my computer will not connect to my wireless network at home. So I call and talk to my wireless provider for 35 minutes trying this and that and she determines it is my computer that has a problem, not the service. I knew that because the other 4 laptops in the house work fine but I figured maybe it just needed to be reset-up or something. I called the Data Doctors store to ask them to help me over the phone with maybe a setting or two. The location I dropped it off at originally has NO RECORD of my laptop ever even coming thru that store and they refer me to call the Tempe lab. I call the Tempe lab and tell two different people my issue before someone decides to help me. They tap into my computer from the lab and look at a few things for 10 minutes and then tell me he thinks it is my wireless connection!! I explain that I have several other computers in the house and that I never had an issue with the wireless component until I got it back from them. He says he does not think it is the computer but I have to take it back to the store to have them try to connect it to their wireless network and go from there...but he does not think it is the computer itself. I have a brand new modem and router. What a bad experience that still is not over. I will never take my computers in to data doctors in the future and I would certainly not reccomend them to anyone else. read more

1 check-in These guys are criminals, told me it would cost $59 to repair computer, when I called them back to see if ready they said it was $250- $350 more to clean up the virus. I had already paid them the $59. I was told that the $59 was to diagnosis the problem. I told them I already knew what was the problem, I didn't need them to tell me I had a virus. The guy who I gave my money to said he can get rid of the virus and I could probably pick it up the next day. Well, no one called me, I have to call them. and then they told me what it would cost to get rid of the virus (which were simple ad pop ups) . I refused to pay and will be picking up my computer. For what they wanted to get rid of these pesty pop ups I could buy a new computer. Worst experience ever, PLUS the guy I spoke to on the phone, told me they would be replacing my hardware with state of the art "stuff" that the major manufacturers are not even installing in their new computers . This is NOT what I wanted. I simply wanted them to get ride of this "pop ups" so I can email my son and not get these pesty pop ups. I do not do video games, or stream movies, or any of those high tech stuff. I am just a senior citizen who just wanted to do emailing and ebay stuff....AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Wow! And not in a good way. Dropped off my HP laptop Sat midday. It had a minor error message upon initial turn on. Some Ukranian guy, only one on staff, fiddles with it for like 15 min and just tells me exactly what the screen says, thanks but I was doing that myself. I ask if I can get it back that same day, oh no, thats quite impossible. Then starts going into telling me how a hard drive works. Says should be Monday no problem, because God forbid he has to remove the 4 tiny screws off the back panel and remove the hard drive itself, that would somehow demand all day Monday. So Monday comes, I give this moron till 4:30pm, no call. So I call. Has my name reversed in the system, asks if I have toshiba, at this point I know after having my computer over 12+ hours in total, and already taking $59.00 to tell me what I already knew, it had NOT BEEN TOUCHED! Took my approximately 5yr old Dell laptop in because it was getting glitchy and slow and it would not download windows 10 even though it has an i5 chip and 500gb hard drive. They diagnosed and said my hard drive was failing. They put in a new 1tb hybrid drive, installed Windows 10, and cloned and downloaded the data from my old hard drive for $350 after deducting the diagnosis fee. After getting home, I noticed all of my videos and most of my music was not on my new hard drive. I went back the next day after work and Robert worked with me right up until closing recovering the videos and music data from my old bad hard drive and setting up my iTunes so that it would work properly! I feel like I have a brand new computer! Great service! read more

Horrible experience from start to finish. Took my daughter's laptop in because it was unable to charge with the AC adapter. I didn't know if the adapter was faulty or if there was a problem with the computer's battery, so I brought both to the store. On arrival, after several attempts, it was clear they didn't have an replacement AC adapter that would fit. They hooked up the adapter to a volt meter and told me it was working ok. At that point, they wanted $59 for a diagnostic to assess the problem. I said ok and left. They called back that afternoon to inform me another customer came in with an AC adapter that fit my computer and guess what...It was the AC adapter all along. But it gets better. They then ran the diagnostic and found lots of problems that potentially needed repair. I told them if they had the right adapter in the store in the first place, the diagnostic didn't need to be done. After wrangling back and forth the said I could pick up my computer and they would credit me the charge. My daughter picked up the computer today and now it doesn't work at all. Also, I checked my credit card...no credit has been posted. I only write reviews on absolutely horrible experiences in customer service. This place qualifies. When I walked in Robert was right there to help and explain the solution to my computer problem. He gave me a price and said he would start on it before he went to lunch, and that he would try to have it up and running by the next day. At noon the next day, Alex called and said I could pick it up. A solid state drive was installed and my speed has improved tremendously and I have so much more memory or Gigabits as they call it. They both were so helpful, efficient and explained everything to me. They gave me the old drive and I was thinking I would just throw it away but Alex said that I don't have a backup system on my computer, so it has all of my information on the old hard drive I have the Basic service contract that is only $8.95 a month and has saved me a lot of money over the years. On top of that Alex carried my computer out to my car for me. I would recommend Data Doctors to anyone like me that doesn't understand GB's and Ram, I just know I want it to start when I turn it on. The Data Docs storefront is not where they diagnose and fix computers. They actually ship them out to a third party for that. I was initially happy when the repair place contacted me promptly, but things went downhill from there. Once I approved the repairs, it took almost 2 weeks to fix. Then, because I wanted to pay them with a different credit card than the one I paid the deposit with, they wanted me to print an authorization form, fill it out with my credit card number, scan it and e-mail it back. Besides the fact that I don't like emailing my credit card info for security reasons... How was I supposed to print and scan a document when they had my computer? They also said that they were "on a different system" than data doctors, so I could not pay at the store unless it was cash (my bill was over $500). I will spare you the details, but they had my computer for over a month and I had to jump through hoops to get it back. It seems to me that taking the customers money should be easy... read more

I was having issues with my laptop turning on, some times it would and other times it wouldn't. They were unable to figure out the problem and advised me that my computer had several viruses. Which I found odd because I had someone else already do a virus scan and they found ZERO. Data Doctors wanted me to pay a ridiculous amount of money, on top of what I paid for them to figure out the problem (which they were unable to do) and he said its very possible that I had 250 viruses on my computer. He stated that this other expensive scan would be able to find them and then if I pay even more money then they can get rid of them. My computer was not even worth the asking price of what they wanted to fix it. I then contacted a friend and I was referred to another shop that would look at it for free....although they couldn't figure out the issue either...they told me that I have absolutely ZERO viruses on my computer. The whole thing seemed so fishy. DD also did not finish diagnosing my computer in the time I was promised and I had to keep calling them. They didn't even start looking at it until I was on my way. read more

Yesterday I posted scathing review about how I felt after I couldn't get my service contract terminated six days early. Today Kevin from Data Doctors called me to let me know they had terminated the service contract in accordance with my wishes. He explained why the office person handled my request the way he did. That doesn't mean I liked it and all the way around it could have been handled better. However, I do appreciate that Data Doctors did cancel the contract and I appreciate the time Kevin took to talk to me. He had to try three times before we made contact and most companies won't make the extra effect if they don't reach you the first time. read more

excellent experience. my one month old laptop got one of those money grubbing viruses. took it to data doctors and expected to pay large amount of $$$. to my surprise it cost me almost nothing. excellent customer service. it was explained there was no gaurentee it could be fixed but the gentleman helping me instilled a great bit of confidence. he kept in contact with me over the phone for two days to keep me apprised of progress. got my computer back good as new and i even purchased their antiviral protection plan. the service rep never pressured me in any way and offered and explained all services in detail. he actually saved me a lot of $$$ , time and aggrevation. kuddos data doctors. u now have me as ur own personal reference. thank u so much for your professionalism read more

I was at my second home in Phoenix this week and called Data Doctors about data recovery on an external hard drive. They told me to bring in my hard drive for data recovery and they could tell me within 15-20 minutes if the data could be recovered and give me a price quote. When I arrived at their office I was told they have to send it to their Tempe Corporate office and pay $59.99 to run a diagnostic and then give me a quote which the $59,99 would apply to. Two different stories and I didn't see a need to pay them up front to give me a quote. I plan on bringing it somewhere else as there are many data recovery businesses who do not charge to run a diagnostic and provide a quote . I didn't have a good feeling about this place. Went into office to have my hard drive looked at for repair. That costs $59. I asked what the range of prices could be to fix it. Was told $100 to $1,000. I gave them the hard drive to review. I get a call in a week saying the cost will be from $1,500 to $4,000. I said no, and had my drive returned to the office for pickup by me. I vented by frustration in the pricing lie. The attendant was defensive\rude and blamed the individual that checked me in for the mixup. After further discussion, my belief is unless you absolutely need to get some data off of a drive at any expense, this place is out to get your money period. Not a happy customer, and it was strange to hear them admit that internally they have issues telling customers what the true cost will be. At the end of the day, it is just all about making money; not customer service. never again. read more

I know there are some bad reviews here, but I had a great experience. Our 8 year old iMac stopped booting up, and we had years of valuable data on it. Within a couple days these guys diagnosed the problem, installed a new hard drive and operating system, and copied all my old files onto the new larger hard drive. It wasn't cheap ($334), but I now have a 1T hard drive, it salvaged a great computer, all our data, and it is now working fine again. I expect my kids will be able to continue to use this computer for at least another year or two. Way better outcome than throwing it in the garbage. Plus, their customer service and responsiveness was great. I highly recommend these guys. And, you get what you pay for! read more

Initially I was not satisfied at all with the way Data Doctors had handled my situation. My computer had a serious virus, and after dealing with Data Doctors, I threw in the towel and ended up just buying a new computer. In fact, I was unhappy enough to write a fairly negative review here on Yelp, giving them 1 star. Fast forward 9 months and I get an email though Yelp from the Director of Operations at Data Doctors. Seeing my negative review, he apologized and wanted to make the situation right. Although I already had a new computer, I was interested in donating my old computer to charity, but still needed the viruses removed and the computer reformatted to remove all my personal information. He made arrangements to have that taken care of at no cost to me, which I really appreciate. Although it started out as a bad situation, in the long run I am glad to see that they take customer satisfaction seriously. read more

Data Doctors thinks of you as a cash cow. Whatever you have them do, they will be qualified to do it, but you will pay through the nose for it. I bought a quad core "gaming computer" from them three years ago. Note the "gaming computer" its how they advertised it. I was a little worried about the video card, but they told me I could update it. So in august of 09 I bought a top 3 video card from a famous online company, and still sealed brought it to them. They tell me I have to upgrade the power supply. Ok, I have them do that also. Fast forward to november of 11 and my power supply goes and takes my video card and hard drive with it. They want $700 to fix it. But really what gets me?????? The same guy from all along tells me....that when I play games on my computer I put a "strain" on it and that makes my gaming computer wear out faster. I am so gone. Every time I have gone in there I wind up paying 100's of dollars. read more
