I came to Dasha recently for a work dinner. We were a group of ~20, and they seated us at a long table upstairs. I was pleasantly surprised that we essentially had the second floor to ourselves. We had pre-ordered the Emperor menu, with the addition of Peking duck. My favourites were the pork belly bao, brussels sprouts, and the truffle fried rice. I also had a delicious lychee mocktail. I was excited to try the duck, but unfortunately Dasha's version didn't hit the mark. The main issue was that the duck was cut much too thick, making it difficult to enjoy a balanced bite with toppings. One could tell that it was far from the classic Chinese dish. Overall, I liked the fusion style of the menu. After dinner, we headed to karaoke, which was conveniently just around the corner from our table. We hadn't gotten to the dessert course, so they kindly brought the desserts into the karaoke room as well. Though the space was a bit small for our group, we still had a great time. My friends and I were in town for Caribana and decided to treat ourselves to a nice girls dinner where we could dress up and feel a little fancy for the night. Not sure why Dasha has so many subpar reviews, we had a great time! Firstly, the restuarant outside and in, is gorgeous and rife with prime locations for photo ops. Secondly, the food and drinks were good. The highlights were the dumplings, salmon roll, brussel sprouts and sweet and sour chicken. I'd say skip the wasabi prawns unless you really like wasabi. The sauce that came with it was waaaay too overpowering. The menu is a little pricy which we knew so maybe next time we'll try to come in for happy hour and also karaoke! If you are looking for vibes and chilling, this would be the place - bring tons of cash or a platinum card, drinks are expensive if you intend to tie one on here. Dark-moodily lit pan-Asian restaurant! Stylish, open brick, and jade inspired furnishings. i ordered their Red Dragon drink for $26. It was served on a pretty wooden platter with dry ice for a Smokey dragon like vibe. For apps, I had the vegetable dumplings. it was served with a very salty soy sauce on the bottom of the plate rather than a dip. The soy sauce helped with the simplicity of the flavour of the dumplings. For a main I had the Duck Fried Rice. Delightful. Topped with fresh egg, wonderfully seasoned and a delightful crunch. We tried out Dasha for their Dim Sum & Chill Happy Hour. I didn't come with the expectation of getting authentic Dim Sum, so unlike some of the reviews here, I quite enjoyed myself. I would describe Dasha as a fusion trendy restaurant with dishes that uses quality ingredients. Dim Sum here wasn't as greasy so it hits differently from the usual dim sum joints. Not saying that either one is better than the other, just pointing out that they might be different experiences. The Six Twenty Spritz was amazing, I highly recommend it. The servings in the pictures are for 2people that's why it looks like a lot. The noodles and rice was a bit much but it's okay. It was on the pricier side but I think I got my money's worth. I give this restaurant a 3.5 stars. My first impression was that it was a cute place for girls' night out (I was told there's a karaoke area upstairs). Woah this place is under reviewed! I was very skeptical after reading the reviews which were pretty mixed but still decided to check this place out for girls night. We were a group of 5 girls and had made reservations in advance. We arrived 30 minutes before happy hour ended (4pm - 7pm)and our server was very prompt in getting orders in before 7. The happy hour menu has some of their famous drinks and appetizers for $10, which in my opinion is a fantastic deal. We tried the spring rolls, fried shrimp dumplings, pork buns and the scallop shumai (that was awesome, highly recommend). For our mains, we got fried rice, fried noodles and eggplant. Dasha has a strong party feel to it - between the club music and the red lights, this is a spot made for the king west party goers. The food was pretty solid, some nice flavors there that you won't find in the average chinese spot (my friend said the Sichuan pepper flavour in the angry chicken was very authentic - definitely an appropriate name for the dish) but also a couple misses. Besides the angry chicken, we liked the wasabi prawns, and the fried noodles were decent, but the scallop shumai was a bit of a miss. Overall would give this a solid 3.5 if I could. Food: All of the food was shareable, and we had a decent selection of the small dishes (forewarning, the dishes are more like bar food in portion size and taste, rather than actual restaurant food; I would head to a Chinese restaurant if you want a proper dining experience). This restaurant focuses on modern Chinese cuisine with American influences, a sister restaurant to Akira Back. The interior of this place was amazing!! They had such a unique bar, bringing traditional and modern Chinese designs together. They have DIM SUM & CHILL on the weekdays, where they have featured dishes and drinks. From here we ordered the Shumai and Soup Dumplings. To be honest, we weren't huge fans of any of the dim sum we ordered. The Shumai was tiny in size and tasteless, and the soup dumplings had basically no soup. From the main menu. We ordered: 1. Wasabi Prawns The wasabi prawns were delicious! They were battered to perfection and paired well with the wasabi crema. We didn't find it too spicy, and would recommend this dish. 2. Dasha Fried Noodles - Chow Mien The Dasha Fried Noodle was their take on chow mien. It came with bean sprouts, fried tofu and bell peppers. This wok fried dish was super flavourful and a little too bit salty. 3. Peking Duck Very traditional coming with all the fixings. We found the duck a bit dry as we ate more of it, but we enjoyed the crispiness and thinnest of the skin. It came with a set of steamed pancake wraps, which we had to order more of. Finishing off with dessert. We ordered the Dasha dessert platter that came with yuzu brownie, chocolate mousse and ice cream (vanilla, black sesame, green tea). This was my first time visiting Toronto with friends, and in pursuit of a fancy girls night out, we opted on Dasha. We definitely made the right choice! Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the meal. He guided us through the menu and offered insightful recommendations. Of all the dishes we tried, the absolute highlight was the Spicy King salmon roll. As someone who isn't typically keen on raw sushi, this roll was a revelation. The combination of flavors and textures was exceptional, and I would confidently rate it a perfect 10 out of 10. But none of our food came out together, at one point we waited 20 minutes for a plate of prawns to come out from the kitchen while the rest of our food got cold. We waited for our waitress to come and check on us and told her that all of our food had gotten cold while we waited for the plates. She took one of our items back and got it heated up, but overall we ended up eating most of our food cold or scattered. While the food was great, the service not so much and as I like to say "you come for good food but you stay for good service." The service was not what we were hoping for. Since Dasha's ducks are what they're known for, we definitely had to try the fowl. Instead of Peking duck, we opted for the black truffle version ($45) instead. It was an impressive dish: the duck still roasted with that lovely crispy skin like the Peking dish, but then it's enhanced with a black truffle duck jus poured tableside so the fowl's richness also gets an earthy umami essence. There's even a couple of black truffle shavings placed on top. This was a fantastic dish that was the highlight of the meal. If only there was more of it, the small portion was best suited to be shared amongst two people. In general, Dasha's dishes are diminutive so you'll need at two per person with a side to satisfy. In lieu of the salt & pepper shrimp, we went for the wasabi prawns ($14). The battered deep fried shrimp is tossed with a mild wasabi crema so there's a faint taste of the condiment without stinging the nose. A great way to start and a tasty starter. While the smoked ribs ($19) lacked smokiness, it's nonetheless a decent dish. Immensely tender ribs - the meat can barely hold together on a fork - is stewed in a slightly sweet sauce and then rolled in panko crust so that it covers the sauce and gives the pork texture. The coating also helps protect your fingers a bit if you give up on cutlery all together and resort to your hands. The nest adorning the angry chicken ($16) plate is a cute idea but the ingredients used to build up the nest isn't necessarily the tastiest ... the traditional shaved taro still does it best. I was also expecting a lot more spice for a something that's described as being Szechuan. Instead, the heat is so subdued that the only way you get any spice is if you actually eat the bits of chili rendering the dish fairly forgettable. To round out the meal, we added on a number of sides including green beans ($11), which is quickly stir fried with garlic and chili so that it's flavourful without being all shriveled or too oily. I made a reservation at DASHA after reading an article about it online. The place looks super cool inside and I always love trying new restaurants so, of course, I had to go. It was a bit confusing getting into the restaurant because the entrance is sort of hidden behind black curtains. I entered from the wrong side of the building, apparently. I guess the curtains are there to block out the cold air from getting in, which is actually a great idea for the winter months. There were six of us eating and after speaking to our server, we decided the best approach was to choose a bunch of dishes to share. The restaurant claims to serve their dishes "family style" but with the exception of one or two dishes, most of the food was only suitable for sharing between 2 or 3 people at most. In fact, we would have preferred if the server had been more forthcoming about portion sizes because we would have ordered fewer dishes and just doubled the order so that everyone could have had more than one piece or one small spoonful of each dish. The lighting in the restaurant is really dim (absolutely terrible for taking photos of your food!) which made it difficult to appreciate how good the food looked, so we really relied on flavours alone. We ordered the asparagus salad and chicken balls to start. They should consider renaming the salad because it was mostly spring mix with literally ONE stalk of asparagus cut up in the salad. What a joke. The chicken balls were ok, but there was absolutely nothing special about them. We ordered the black truffle duck (double order) and I think this was the most disappointing dish of the evening. There was absolutely zero truffle flavour. It was cooked alright, but I've had some really amazing duck dishes in the city so I was expecting much better from a restaurant headed up by a Michelin-star chef. At $90, this dish was a terrible value. We also had the salt & pepper prawns, the black cod, the sweet and sour chicken, the seafood fried rice, the green beans with chili and the Dasha fried noodles. We pretty much all agreed that the cod and the noodles were the best dishes of the night, but even then, they were not outstanding. Granted, it was difficult to really judge from such a small bite of food, but from what we did have, I'd say the noodles were the best dish. The sweet and sour chicken was dry, and the sauce was just too much. I actually really dislike sweet and sour dishes, but thought this one might be different. I was wrong. I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between this one and the one from a Mandarin restaurant. OVERALL: Visited Dasha on opening week for dinner. Definitely a positive experience with solid Chinese food, outstanding service, and a beautiful restaurant. I am a fan. I didn't have any drinks but will be back for cocktails another time. VENUE: Located on King, the entrance is actually deep within a walkway that connects to Adelaide. Look for signs and ask if you can't find it. The restaurant renovations are fantastic with a modern high end north american restaurant feel but maintaining traditional Chinese style elements. FOOD: Being Chinese, I've historical struggled with Chinese fusion type restaurants that try to upscale Chinese food in a north american way. I was happy to find that Dasha maintained fairly traditional Chinese flavours while serving in an upscale manner. Price: for a group of 3, we each got a cocktail and shared 4 plated menu items and a soup (well I drank most of it oops). Worked out to be around $60 pp after tips and tax. It is on the pricier side. Food: went for the roasted duck, fried rice, chow fun and wasabi shrimp to share. The hot and soup soup was good (and piping hot, how I'd usually prefer my soup to be). All 3 of us were comfortably satisfied. We asked for a dessert menu but it's not quite ready just yet as per our server. A little bit sad but the restaurant just opened so...we'll just wait and see what's in store from the chef. Drinks: the group ordered the halo halo, ember island and the bonsai drink. The bonsai drink was short lived as they took it away immediately after the pour. The ember island was full of ice, drink was on the stronger side. I didn't get to try the halo halo but my friend thoroughly enjoyed it. Service: very attentive and informative. We got the soup and wasabi shrimp pretty fast after ordering. Dasha is both a full-scale restaurant and a karaoke (private rooms). I came recently with a friend for the dining and will be coming back soon for the karaoke. The venue is stunning and a lot of thought and creativity was put into the décor - great place for photos! However, that pretty much sums up the positive part of the experience. The food was a miss. Some dishes were alright (like the dim sum), yet some were extremely disappointing. We referred to the waitress on what to order and she highly recommended the char siu pork, saying it was one of their most popular dishes. This was unfortunately one of the biggest let downs I've experienced at ANY restaurant. The char siu pork was dry and lacked any flavour... frankly it almost felt insulting as a person of Chinese background to be eating this - honestly, a $5 char siu at any Asian food court trumped this dish... The remaining dishes (dim sum aside) were mediocre at best; they were essentially just fancier versions of Caucasian takes on Chinese cuisines (ex. look at the poultry menu - sweet & sour chicken? Kung pao chicken?). Cocktails weren't bad. Overall I'd say, come here if you wanted to impress someone on aesthetics as the interior is very fancy but don't have too high expectations on the food. We made a reservation for our anniversary dinner. It took a bit of time to find the restaurant but then we saw a lovely heart shaped entrance leading to their covered patio. It was quite chilly so we sat inside. The tables were separated by plexiglass and it was dark but had a nice vibe. Our server, Jules, was excellent! He worked hard sorting my needs for gf, vegetarian and dairy free options with the chefs. We ordered edamame with the sauce on the side so hubby could enjoy the gluten filled sauce. BUT, we were served our fried rice before the edamame and no additional bowl was given for the shells. We would have preferred to finish our app (edamame) before the main meal. It got cold as we continued with our meal. The eggplant was EXCELLENT. I'm very particular about eggplant being cooked to a soft texture and this was perfect. They left off the bread crumbs (gluten) and the flavour was so good. The green beans were ok...nothing special. Hubby had the black cod which had asparagus in it and he said it was very good. It is not a large menu at all and they do NOT have any desserts. Hubby had a martini and the Johnny Walker drink. I had a tasty sweet and tart mocktail. Overall good service, decent food and clean single washrooms. I would only go back if they expand their menu as I would only be able to eat the same items. read more

I think places like DASHA are a whole experience first and it was a satisfying experience. Overall I really enjoyed my evening at Dasha, and will go back (especially to check out the karaoke). Most of the dishes we had were amazing, especially the wasabi prawns and szechuan green beans and the bbq pork buns. The dishes that were not amazing were still good. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the drinks, and the servers who are amazing and polite, but the food is just a bit overpriced! Came on a Tuesday evening for a celebration with a large group - around 10 people, and our server was so polite at acknowledging our food and drink orders. When it came time to pay, he even had all the bills split up accordingly which is difficult admittedly given that members of our group had come and go at different times. +1 star for the service. I've been dying to go to this restaurant and finally got the chance for my friends bday dinner! It was such a vibe, the atmosphere transformed you to another place as soon as you walk in. We got all this food to share at a table of 4 and still we didn't finish it! It all tasted so good, we got: fried rice, noodles, sweet and sour chicken and kung pao chicken (my fav!). It was so good I have nothing bad to say about this place. Even for pics the staff directed us to the stairs, we went on a weekday and it was super chill. Can't wait to go back! read more

This is a good restaurant IF the only Chinese food you've ever had is ManchuWok or some other white washed Chinese food place because while i wouldn't say this place is bad, it's definitely sub par with other Chinese food places except this one is just disguised as a hip karaoke bar but you're paying more money for way way less food. I came here as a double date with a friend because we were in the area and this was on my list of places to try and being Chinese myself I was somewhat skeptical but also hopeful that this place could be a great new place for chinese food. The drink menu was quite interesting, I got the Matcha Sour which tasted similar to a Starbucks Matcha Lemonade that's just boozier. Not bad. Came with a cute flower. For food we ordered the Angry Chicken, the Dasha Fried Noodles and the Soup Dumplings. The Angry Chicken was plated beautifully and creatively with the dried noodles acting as a nest for the chicken to sit on, the sauce was delicious with the Szechuan pepper and it was by far the most interesting dish there. I just wish the chicken pieces weren't smaller than mcd chicken nuggets. The Dasha Fried Noodles was unmemorable and I think more bean sprouts than it was noodles. Super small portion but also I guess cause it was just packed in a small bowl that it appears much smaller than what I'm used to. I can't tell you what it tastes like other than standard fried noodles because there is nothing special about it. The soup dumplings were fine. I quite liked the texture of the dumpling wrapper actually and the fillings were nice and juicy. I'm just a little sad about how tiny they were and the fact that their were only four for $15 and I was on a double date which meant I only ate one and it basically costed me 3.75 to eat it. At that point I might as well use that 3.75 at Juicy Dumpling and get 6 bigger ones of similar taste. The servers were nice, no one was rude. But I'm knocking so many points off because of how long my drink, food and bill took to get here. We were seated outside so the server often disappeared into the restaurant and we wouldn't see her for like 10-20 minutes at a time and we were never asked how we liked anything so like very bare minimum customer service imo. Overall this place isn't *bad* it's just not *good*. You can have a good time here if it's just dressing up, taking cute pics for ig and having drinks with the non-chinese gals but if you're looking for good food and good customer service try somewhere else. read more
