I bought a new small suv vehicle that I finally received April 10th (had put in the order for options, etc back on August 30th of last year). Now was the time to have it tinted like I have done to all my other vehicles in the past.
As 'usual', I go to T and T Tinting, having gone there since the mid 1980s, but the location was kind of farther away from where I live at present, so decided on Darren's Tinting. Why Darren's Tinting you might say? Well, I have passed this house for several decades (gotta been the late 1980s) and have always seen the small yellow signs either attached to the home or on the fence line but always thought, "gee... I don't think this guy is making a profit ... he working out of his home...".
My brother had his CH-R tinted here back in 2018 upon recommendation from his salesperson at Waipahu Toyota (just down the block). When he had it tinted, I kinda scrutinized the workmanship (as like I said, I have always gone to T and T Tinting) but could not find anything wrong with the workmanship. This made me think hmmm.... maybe the next car I have I will go there.
I called about two weeks ago (called at a few minutes past 9am, even though they open at 8:30am as I figure he has customers at the start, so waited for the drop off vehicles' customers to leave ). He confirmed his pricing on the Llumar 'IRX' series tint (presently the highest performance ceramic tint from Llumar for which he is a certified dealer). It would be practically equivalent in specifications to Llumar's 'Formula One's' dealers' 'Pinnacle' series tint.
Came today Friday morning for the drop off around 8:30am. You will go to the first house DH side of the bus stop (which is past the Texaco Gas station) --- but note Darren's home has two driveways, so the driveway you will want to go into would be the DH side driveway (not the Ewa side).
While there, I tell him the tint shade specifications I want for the front windshield, the panoramic sun roof, the side windows and the rear window. Llumar Air 90 for the windshield (really, with all new cars factory tinted for few decades, don't even think of the Llumar Air Blue 80 as it will NOT satisfy Hawaii's annual Safety Check inspection minimum of allowing the minimum of 70% vehicle light transmittance --- tried that with two vehicles at T&T back in 2010 and 2017, and with the swab of the Air Blue 80, they both tested below the 70% minimum with the tint meter). I chose 40 series for the sunroof (not too dark and not too light) and for the front driver and front passenger windows and the rear back window. I asked that the rear seat windows and quarter panels be tinted with the 35 series (remember, on suvs and trucks you see 'privacy tint', they are NOT exactly tinted to prevent 99% ultraviolet radiation or reduce heat unless they are tinted, such as with the Llumar tint film. Just letting you know, since I still see some tint installers on YouTube not tint the 'privacy tinted' windows on the suv or truck they have, but only tint the front side windows ! Sheesh, they call themselves knowledgeable tinters ?
Darren texted me about 6 hours later to say the car was ready and so I got a ride back there. Looked at the workmanship while I was waiting for Darren to come out and finish the transaction. He provided me with Llumar's Limited Lifetime Warranty papers and we went all around the vehicle to discuss related matters on the tinting, etc.
I told Darren, look --- no one has taken a picture of you, but I want to when I do my Yelp review ... so I did! So now, you'll know how he looks if you're a first time customer ! Handsome buggah ! So easy to talk to and doesn't push any additional services upon you (he does do ceramic coating though) in a way you would feel ' shame' to say 'no'.
Before leaving, we talked a short bit so I tell him my story about how through the many years I've driven by and thought to myself that this guy must be struggling to do business, but from our talk I am happy to say he is quite successful due to 'word of mouth' and also to the many salespersons at Waipahu Toyota that send their customers here for their tinting needs!
Gosh, Darren Saiki deserves to be recognized by Llumar for his excellent workmanship and customer service !
Don't hesitate ... workmanship is equivalent to T and T Tinting but at a lesser cost !
