This place is such a gem. I went here to eat a few weeks ago and had such a wonderful time I meant to write this review then, but life swept me up. Then tonight, I ordered takeout and it was so delicious it reminded me that I needed to write my review! The staff were so attentive, accommodating, and kind, so sweet with my two year old niece. The new decor is incredibly cozy and I loved being able to play board games at our corner table with my niece. The food was so delicious, I had the fried chicken sandwich (which was amazing) and my niece had the black eyed peas dish. After she finished it she kept saying "more more beans!!" THAT'S how delicious it was. She then finished up with the ice cream special, which was "corn" that evening. We thought it sounded interesting, and it really was! A bit like corn pudding. So so good. My family had such a nice time, we kept saying how excited we were to come back. Tonight I ordered the Caesar salad with chicken for takeout, and it was INCREDIBLE! Super delicious and very filling. I really wanted to like this place and was excited to have a new place in town. However, it just wasn't good. The food was slow to come out. My cauliflower was cold and tasteless, my drink tasted like it had gone flat, and halfway through my burger, I noticed that it was raw in places. We love the food and what they've done with the place! Can't believe the negative reviews- we are locals (though I was born in new orleans) and have gone here almost weekly since they opened. Have thoroughly enjoyed everything we've eaten and the food always comes out fast. All the fried food options (chicken, catfish and mushrooms) are the best I've had in the area. The sides are all solid - even with my picky inlaws. Try the Mac and cheese and greens! Love the drinks too. And they have crystal hot sauce!! Legit. Last night I dreamt of a nice afternoon lunch with a close friend of mine. Nowhere in that dream was a 1 hour wait for our meal. Upon arrival, after making a reservation for our table earlier that day, the kind waitress informed us that unfortunately, DESPITE our reservation, they were unprepared to make us our food and told us we may have a long wait for our meal. This was due to a large group who (presumably) had also made a reservation, having priority on their order compared to the other much smaller groups of customers across the restaurant. One hour after we had ordered, we still did not have our food, nor did anyone else in the restaurant. The large group however, were already on their second round of beverages after receiving a whole damn feast fit for a small country. We were then informed that they were entirely out of every. single. type of lettuce, and we would have to switch our orders to different options. Apparently at 2 pm they had already fed every morsel of greens in their kitchen to the fifteen customers to our left. And still, no one else had gotten their food. At this point, we decided to wait for our food and leave, in return, for a singular peach added to our order to make up for the lack of service. The waitress told us she would be more than happy to. Apparently she wasn't, because low and behold, the peach was nowhere to be found. I will not be returning to this restaurant on account of inorganization and a lack of preperation. read more

Went to Darlings to celebrate a friends birthday and it was perfect! Creative and delicious cocktails (and cheap beer!) with perfect sharing plates. Friendly and accommodating staff. The vegan fried chicken and pimento cheese dip were my favorites. We sat on the patio that was full of colorful umbrellas and beautiful gardens, and had one last drink by the firepits. Seems like they really have something for everyone. As a restaurant worker myself, understanding the effects that the pandemic and labor shortage have had on supply, their prices seemed more than reasonable to me. As someone who's two biggest food groups are vegan-leaning food AND fried chicken, this place was a dream come true. Decor is great, staff were warm and kind, menu is thoughtful, intentional and delish! Had the vegan fried chicken (mushrooms) which were seasoned well and nice and crispy without being greasy or mushy - a serious feat for mushrooms! Green beans were a little salty, and biscuits were a little dull, but the cocktail menu and pie selection more than made up for anything out meal lacked! I went to Darlings a few weeks ago and what a wonderful place! The atmosphere is fabulous and friendly. We split a few apps and entrees and I left feeling full and happy. I especially loved the smoked trout dip and the chicken sandwich but I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. The cocktails are refreshing and delish and damn cute.
