My absolute favorite bar of all time! 1000000000000000/10!!! I could live at Dark Sister!!! It is my go to place to hang out with the girls on a night out! If I am in the arts district, I am at Dark Sister (if they're open... sometimes I'm there in the day and they are not open yet and I am sad. lol) It's moody, it's witchy, it's got all the Goth eclectic goodness! I love how it is decorated!!! It's giving dark academia, mixed with a séances, sprinkle in a little bit of dried flowers and top it with a tarot card. They have such a variety of seating, they have large loungey couches in the front, smaller couches with chairs and tables as you go inside, long and larger tables for larger groups in the back, a massive bar area with seating, as well as a gorgeous patio with bar seating as well as tables and loungey bench areas. It is comfy, cozy, and an amazing place to just chill and hang out. The music is always perfect. The lighting is the perfect dark dim. I have never felt more at home somewhere in my life. It is my happy place. It doesn't matter what I'm doing. If I go there it makes me happy! I absolutely love that they have a mocktail menu and that they rotate the drinks every season. I don't drink and also a lot of my friends don't either and their mocktail menu is a winner every single time, I've never had a drink there that I did not enjoy. Honestly, I would love if they had more mocktail options than they already do. I'm really glad that they added snacks!! Their snack tray is amazing I get it almost every time I'm there. The only thing I would like is for there to be more variety of snacks! I do love the chocolate covered espresso beans but somehow, I am the one that ends up finishing them and then I don't sleep... which is definitely a me problem but like... they're addictive man... we need something else chocolate, like, of course keep the chocolate covered espresso beans, but like maybe chocolate covered raisins or chocolate covered berries? If you guys added a charcuterie board... take our money!!! My friends, and I would never leave, Take all our money!! Like a witchy charcuterie board!! I absolutely love that they have an outdoor patio now!!! It is stunning! Being witchy in the fall is going to be amazing there!!! I've been going there since they opened and from the moment I walked in I was in love. I have watched as this bar has continued to grow, and it only gets better with age. I adore the staff, they are so sweet! They have always been nothing but kind and caring. If something is going down outside, they are locking us in and keeping us safe. I was there one time when there was a shooting going on outside and they immediately locked the doors until it was safe for us to leave. I appreciate how much they take safety seriously! I really love that every single time I go there it seems that they have added something new to make it an even more fun experience! They have a lot of really awesome places to take photos! They do a lot of of events and classes, I haven't been able to go down for one of their events/classes yet, but I'm really dying to go take one of the crafty witchy classes! Great place! We were there on first Friday which was also 4th of July weekend and the 4 of us were able to get a table outside (it was pretty full inside). The outside patio was covered and had a 2nd bar out there which was very nice. Once we sat down, someone came over to let us know to order at the bar. Once we ordered, we got our drinks very quickly. I can't remember what I got, but 1 of my friends got the spicy drink that comes in a skull glass with 2 peppers to look like horns, loved the presentation! We had great service from the hostess to the bartender! There was a place across the way playing live music, so that was nice in the space. Not sure if we could hear music out there without it. I had really high hopes for this bar and unfortunately I was very disappointed. The first time I went here, in April, they were open, but when I went to the front door - it was locked? And no one was in sight. Very odd. Fast forward to last night, I finally decided to give this place a try and head in for a quick drink. First impression: love the decor, smells incredible! Definitely on theme. The music they were playing? A bit random? I think they were playing Sabrina Carpenter which was an interesting choice but not horrible. This isn't a dig but a very important observation; when I sat at the bar, (I'm 5'1) the bar top was level with my shoulders. I barely could see/place my arms over the bar. The man who greeted me was polite but wasn't super helpful. He just gave me a menu and then asked if I was ready to order. Once I found the drink I wanted (my liquor of choice is gin and they only had 2 options) I ordered the Malaya Exchange. Before the drink was even made, the man behind the bar asked if I was opening a tab or closing and I paid before I received the drink. Very odd and not the most professional in my opinion? Another woman came from the back of the bar and he asked her to make my drink. She was very nice and the drink was gorgeous. I personally did not like the drink. It tasted like juice? Not saying I wanted to have a straight up shot of liquor but maybe the flavor profile of this drink was a little too strong (it's lemongrass based). All in all. I don't think I'd come back.. I've never been here before and didn't feel very welcome, no one explained the menu or helped with drink selection/options and paying for a service before receiving it? Especially at a bar? I will say the sage on sunset was delicious and I truly enjoyed the cocktail , it was mixed together very well. I like the decor and overall vibe of the place. When you pop in, take a minute to look to the left of the entrance and you will notice a Tarot card reader. The price is twenty dollars per reading. Our party of five did 2 rounds and we ordered different things and we all tasted the lot. There wasn't a single cocktail we wouldn't order again. These were well crafted and artfully put together. The Lucid Dream may just be the ugliest cocktail they have, but damn it's tasty. If you don't like heat, avoid this. The fire bitters are very assertive here. I love heat, and this was delicious. You can tell the space doesn't quite have its soul yet, but it's coming. It will obviously appeal to the spooky kids (21+ of course), but the craft on display should bring others inside. Places like this need to be supported because they add character to a place. You go to Velveteen Rabbit, Stray Pirate, and end your night here. The first drink I tried here (Malaya Exchange) was NOT EVEN MIXED. Literally components poured together into a glass, like a Jack and coke. The second drink I had during that first visit was Holy Water, which I throughly enjoyed (that time, pictured), and led me to give this place another chance. Unfortunately, the second visit confirmed that the shoddy execution was the rule, not the exception. My husband ordered a drink that should be a classic stirred spirit forward cocktail. It was served over a large cube and looked the part, but when we tasted it, it was room temperature - the stirred cocktail WAS NEVER STIRRED. Are you kidding me? I got the Holy Water again, which I loved last time (because it was properly made), but this time was too heavy on the amaretto and threw off the balance of the whole drink. Look I am here to support all the interesting new businesses on Main St., but you have to lead with good product. The cocktail experience here felt like a clever calculus equation being worked on by 3rd graders. And the deficient execution only becomes neon sign clear when you go behind the alley to Liquid Diet, across the street to Petite Boheme, or up the block to Velveteen or Nocturno. No comparison, nowhere near where the bar has been set. Clearly the owner/program director put a ton of thought into the concept and menu.
