I have been waiting over two months to have two prints framed. I also paid upfront nearly $2,000 for the framing. At this point, I could almost care less whether I ever get these prints. read more

This place is great and what makes it amazing is the gentleman that runs it. I was in there Tuesday, he is a musician/artist great customer service so genuine and caring. I just happened on the place because I wanted the wire on the back of two frames and he was so helpful and polite and just genuine. He quickly put the wire on both pictures while I waited. I am so thankful there are still genuine and caring people that love what they do. read more

Dark Horse Framing has served us very well for unique framing jobs. Ernesto and Matt take pride in their work and it shows. We have labor-intensive framing needs that include matting and inserts for photos and credits. They do a breathtakingly great job. The frames are under a deadline, which is hard because of the intense labor, but they work with us and always come through completing the job on time. The cost is relatively stable from year to year, despite kinks in the supply chain. We appreciate their care and expertise so very much. Thanks for taking such good care with our projects with your excellent service and customer care. read more

Matt and Ernesto have been very helpful throughout our framing process up to the installation of the painting in our home. Matt is very knowledgeable and offers great advice. Ernesto has been very helpful in keeping us updated with the status of the framing especially because this painting is very special to our family. Note though that the bad review which seems to be a hack from somebody isn't mine. I have nothing but good words for this company. read more

This has been a long drawn out experience. I brought 3 pieces of art to have framed in early August. At first, the communication and customer service was impeccable. Two months on, my project still isn't finished and the manager (John) does not respond to emails or phone calls. I picked up 2 of the pieces yesterday and still have 1 that they had just sitting at their framing warehouse waiting for another frame to be chosen because the original one we chose was out of stock. Nobody called to explain this to me nor to update me on the long delay of my project. I also asked them to keep the original frame of my 70's piece as it holds sentimental value and it could not be found yesterday. I have asked for the business owner to contact me so we will see how that goes. I will never use this framing shop again. read more

Adam was super helpful and super friendly. I went to quite a few frame shops and he was by far the best in customer service and very knowledgeable. I mistaken him for the owner, because usually owners act so great. read more

Ernesto and Matthew are extremely professional and reasonable. We wanted to unmount a canvas so that we could transport it. Ernesto did a great job for a very reasonable price. Would recommend this store for any framing needs. read more

I have used this store for services in the past, which is why I headed back to them today for my framing needs. They are very knowledgeable, have a large selection of frames to choose from and lots of matting advice. Their prices are a bit higher than other stores, but if you are looking for a quality job, impeccable service and satisfaction, you will be happy with the quality that you receive. read more

I just have to say the prices are just ridiculous. How they come up with their figures I have no idea they're so ridiculously high. I can't entertain it. Don't think they're gonna be around for long. and all the reviews that say they did great work but that was a previous owner. There's a new owner here and this business doesn't operate the same. I've gone here before and I won't go back with the new owners bye read more

Wow! Wow! Vonna and Carla are beautiful and very generous and giving individuals. They are extremely talented and gifted artisans whose craft is honed to perfection in order to help you make the best choice. They allow you to explore alternatives that you never even contemplated or imagine could be possible. It was really enjoyable sharing picture framing moments. My particular project involved framing uncut original playing cards that took two years in the creation and production to reach finality. The framing showcased both the front and back of the uncut sheet. The end result was nothing less than magnificent. Thank you Carla and Vonna for creating a treasured masterpiece for a lifetime. I've been driving by Dark Horse for several years. Because I already had a professional framer in HMB I never saw the need to stop by Dark Horse. I texted my recently retired framer for a recommendation. She immediately replied "I don't know them personally, but try Dark Horse. I've heard excellent things about them." Although it is my first time using Dark Horse--it certainly won't be my last time! The staff is very friendly, professional, considerate, and knowledgeable. I was just awestruck by the vast selection of frames! The piece I took in was my grandmother's. Unfortunately, it wasn't in the best of shape. Although they were limited in what they could actually do with the painting, Dark Horse worked wonders! WOW, am I glad I got that recommendation! They're now my new go-to framer! I'll also be recommending them to others! Kudos to everyone at Dark Horse Framing!!! read more

I have a small space and decided to fill it with a big, big canvas: 48" x 60". Dark Horse Framing made the process of Framing it very easy. They helped me find the perfect frame for it, making good suggestions and trying different options until I found the one I liked. When it was time to pick it up, they recommended that I measure my Forrester and consider renting a U-Haul, which I did. Thank goodness! As they helped me load it, Vonna went over how to hang it. Due to her detailed instructions and the hooks she sent me home with, I was able to hang it easily and immediately. I was worried that I might have a big elephant in my little living room but it turned out beautifully! I will be going back to Dark Horse to have the canvas that I'm intending to put over my dining room table framed as well. read more

Good framing can make a good picture great... and Vonna and her team did a superb job with several paintings and prints that I brought into her. She took the time to find a frame and matting that complemented the art. These were all works that I've had for years and they now look better than they ever did. Even though I don't live in San Mateo anymore, I'll be going back to Dark Horse for my future framing needs. read more

Dark Horse Framing is my go-to framer! I have taken several works of art there to be framed and their execution is flawless every time. My last frame job was a particularly difficult one and the owner spent a lot of time discussing it and gave me good advice. She has a great eye for frame design and a high level of attention to detail. read more

It's been a long time since I was treated this rudely by a business owner. Maybe it's because I was a walk-in, maybe she didn't like my original Australian bush art, maybe it was a bad day, but it was clear that the owner couldn't care less about framing my painting and helping me to choose a frame. The walls are covered in frames and she didn't move more than 3 feet from the counter to pick a very limited sample, and literally threw those on the counter, and provided zero advice or guidance. I did't care for anything she showed me, or the complete lack of attention, and walked out. Completely at odds with all the reviews. read more

I decided to update my master bathroom with a giant custom mirror and had Dark Horse make the mirror for me. They have an amazing range of frames and Vonna was very helpful in directing me to the types of frames that could actually support a mirror of this giant size. We are thrilled with the result - and it was super easy to hang with the attached "Z-bar" hardware that made it easy to use several studs in the wall to support the mirror weight. Great experience overall and I've already used them again for other framing jobs. read more

Great experience all around at Dark Horse. My framing job required a creative custom touch and they nailed it! I've taken 2 somewhat intricate needlepoint pieces here, so far - in fact, this framer was recommended by Dale Lenza, owner of Luv2Stitch. I used Dark Horse several years ago when they were under a different name - but the same ownership. I brought in an embroidered picture I purchased in Vietnam recently. They matted and framed the piece for less than half the cost I spent a few months ago at a frame shop in Burlingame. And it's perfect. I was provided a clear explanation of both the widths of the matting and the costs. We worked together on selecting the matting and frame with both the cost and the end result in mind. It was refreshing to have the art be the focus versus driving me to higher priced matting and framing which is what I felt occurred at the frame shop in Burlingame. It's refreshing to not be shell shocked by the matting/framing cost - and to love the end result! read more

The best frame shop I have ever been to. The selection is massive. The patience and thoroughness of Vonna and her staff are second to none. I spent hours upon hours going through frames, liners, and sizes and they accommodated my needs in every way possible. Lastly, the speed is much faster than other frame shops. Other shops located in the same area pale in comparison. I will go back again without hesitation. I got this 24x48 done which had many characteristics that made the framing process harder than usual and it came out flawless. Thanks again. read more

This year I discovered Dark Horse Framing and am a total fan. I had several framing projects that I kept putting off because envisioning the perfect end result is not my forte. And I have a couple pieces of art on my walls that I don't love because of the framing choice I made or went along with at the recommendation of the framer. Now I won't go anywhere else but Dark Horse. Vonna has an incredible eye for all the details, a huge assortment of frames to choose from and she knows exactly what to pull to offer up a variety of great ideas. Since framing can be expensive, it is really important to me to get it right and know I will always love the results working with Vonna and her crew at Dark Horse. read more

We have had 3 large canvas paintings stretched and framed over the last year or so at Dark Horse Framing. They have a huge selection of frames to choose from and offer great expertise and advice on how to properly stretch our canvases. Their pricing is the most competitive we have seen in the area, without any compromise on quality or service. In fact, the last framing project was completed in only one week, a full week before it was originally estimated. Because of the size of our last painting, the owner actually delivered it to our home as a courtesy. This is the only store we will do any framing at in the future. read more
