They are the nicest people here and helped us get a large piece framed in a distinctive way that perfectly complemented the art itself!

Professional framing with virtually limitless options/combinations of frames and matting. I've had several items (pictures and paintings) framed here already, and each one came back perfect. The staff here does a great job in trying to match existing frames I had at home. They also have a selection of gold frames. Pricing is pretty up there depending on the size and frame you pick. But that's to be expected of the area and quality is top-notch. read more

What can I tell you? You get what you pay for. Great and wonderful customer service and I cannot say enough. I will definitely be back because they definitely care about you being happy with your purchase. Thank you Janet, Katrina and staff! I never felt pressured and there is an abundant assortment of different frames to choose from and they are there to help you narrow it down. Good quality as well. read more

Julie and her colleagues did an amazing job framing my artwork for my office. No joke, these are the nicest frames I have ever seen-- but it wasn't only that, it was also the prompt, professional, expert-level consulting service that they offered in selecting the right frames for each piece. I mean, seriously, look at my photos for proof. After seeing the level of care/trouble they went to in protecting my pieces for transportation to the actual frame shop, the simple fact is that I would trust no one else with these irreplaceable items. And they installed everything for me too-- at the optimal height for each piece, which they did perfectly even just by eyeballing it. The best part? Instead of the typically negative comments from other visitors about my controversial, one-of-a-kind, and priceless AR-15 painting, they only had praise for the innovative techniques the artist used, which also furthered the art form of the mixed media collage. This proves that The Studio Shop is full of passionate appreciators of art without any agendas, and that's how you know you're going to the right place! 10 out of 10. read more

I have been frequenting The Studio Shop for the past ten years. No other framing business comes close to their professionalism, attention to detail, care, friendliness, and expertise! The Studio Shop is a family-owned business that has been serving the Burlingame community for the past one-hundred years. Coming to The Studio Shop is always a pleasurable experience, as the staff there are some of the loveliest people you will meet. The Studio Shop has an eye for framing all designs, artwork, photographs, memorabilia, etc. You will not find this high-quality of custom framing anywhere else. I've been having my art framed at The Studio Shop for 20 years. This is the best place between SF and SJ to purchase fine art and to have beautiful, distinctive framing for your art and photography. The Studio Shop is a family-owned business that takes good care of its customers, gets to know your taste, and offers skilled advice for framing and art choices. Sisters Janet and Kristen Benson are two of the principals, and I've found they have a great eye and are a tremendous help when considering different framing options. They offer as many choices as you can handle and stay neutral, never influencing your decision. The selection of beautiful, often hand-made and hand-finished framing materials is incredible. There's also more simpler styles for those on a budget. I recently attended the Antiques Roadshow appraisal event in San Jose, and brought a 100-year old doeskin Stanford flag that was framed some years ago at The Studio Shop. The first thing the collectibles appraiser asked me was, "Did you frame this?" I said yes, and he said, "The framing is beautiful, really lovely, and more valuable than what you framed." I see this fellow on TV on the Roadshow all the time, and it's pretty clear he knows good stuff, so at least I walked away knowing my framing job was a treasure! Whenever I'm in downtown Burlingame I stop in to see the latest art on display. I enjoy the variety of artists represented and obvious quality of workmanship. The shop is immaculate, and the service impeccable. You could not be disappointed here. Thank you to everyone at The Studio Shop for your assistance and guidance! read more

We came here to find a frame for a landscape photo my husband took which he had blown up and put on canvas. We luckily had a Groupon and it was the perfect time to use it. The store is a nice size with a hefty selection of frames for custom framing. Julie was the lady that helped us and she was extremely helpful and gave us great ideas. I also felt she was really knowledgeable about the frames they carried and knew just what would compliment the photo based on the colors and content of the photo itself. Framing never comes cheap, but I'm happy to say that our experience at The Studio Shop was a very pleasurable one! read more

We recently had two paintings framed at the Studio Shop. Julie helped us tremendously by suggesting colors and different types of framing. She was wonderful! Both paintings turned out fantastic. My boyfriend and I wanted to frame two calligraphy paintings from Japan, and we came across The Studio Shop through a groupon deal. It was well worth the drive from the city to Burlingame for our custom framing. The woman who assisted us was very friendly and helpful with her advice. She didn't make us feel pressured to get the high-end frames, and she offered her honest opinions. We got our paintings back after two weeks and we were thrilled will the results. The results were flawless, and our paintings look great in the dinning room. I am excited to go back and frame my 1930's Chinese advertisement posters. read more

Thanks to Groupon, I now have a new favorite place for framing. The Studio Shop is a local, family run business and they do a fabulous job. We had a piece of artwork that our daughter made sitting around for ages. When Groupon featured a deal for The Studio Shop, I decided to give it a try. They were extremely helpful and knew their craft well. The suggested matting and frame were just what I was looking for. The work was done when they said it would be. The finished product was just beautiful and perfectly accented the artwork. Perhaps most importantly, my daughter loved it and is proud to have it hanging on the wall. We will definitely use The Studio Shop in the future. read more

I love to frequent local, family run businesses, so I am thrilled to have found The Studio Shop. Just back from 12 years in France, I had several paintings that needed to be framed, as well as, some memorabilla that I wanted to see everyday as a reminder of the pleasures of France. Five projects in all. Framing is an art, and everyone who helped me with my projects knew how to bring out the best in each painting, without going over my budget. I was so happy with the results of the paintings, I returned with a signed menu from a very memorable evening with good friends, and 3 Champagne cartons from our favorite Champagne houses that we had used to ship books home, and Julie and Kristen helped me turn those unusual items into two beautiful works of art that now hang on my kitchen wall. Thanks to Kristen, Janet and Julie, our memories of France are alive and well, and beautifully displayed in our home. read more

I decided to try a new frame shop. Explanation of the widths of the matting and frame wasn't what I expected from what was described - very narrow for the special matting I selected so you can't see the texture. Plus I had to follow-up with the shop and it took several weeks instead of two weeks. Very expensive and not a quality matting. I was shocked and won't use them again. Did a great job helping me in 2016 with photo selection, frame selection and arranging and hanging the photos in our hallway. We had several photos of our children and dog we had taken by a professional photographer. So we had already invested quite a bit in the photos. So I appreciated the full service and quality of the end result. read more

Best experience with a retailer in years! The staff was knowledgeable, professional (polite, promptly returned all calls); but best of all was how they went above and beyond my expectations for a price that was lower than I had dared hope! Boom! read more

These guys did a tremendous job artistically framing and preserving a priceless old newspaper from 1845. The helped pick out the best frame for the piece (and for my budget), and the focus was always on helping, not selling. 2 weeks later I have a perfectly preserved piece that I no longer have to worry about degrading. They seem to really know their stuff when it comes to preservation. Their selection of art, posters, frames, etc is also pretty cool! read more

The Studio Shop is a world class art and custom frame gallery in downtown Burlingame. (It is worth leaving the City for or driving across the Bay!) The second generation proprietors have a keen eye for original art (with ever changing new shows) and custom (one-of-a-kind frame) design. They can frame anything. Expect better than Nordstrom service when selecting your frame or work of art. (This is not Cheap Petes - here, you will receive expert guidance in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere; that means never any sales pressure.) Some art galleries can be intimidating; this family run business is in a class by itself! I write this with absolute certainty; I've been a customer for 20 years. read more

Really nice and knowledgeable folks. They take the time to work with you and make solid recommendations about what kind of frame would best suit your artwork. They also did a fantastic job of stretching a painting that had been warped and water-damaged, restoring it to a like-new state. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the work. Highly recommended! read more

I wanted to surprise my wife with a framing for Valentine's Day, and Julie Venosa was amazing! She helped me pick out a great frame, matting, and float for our piece, and was very communicative, helpful, and understanding around some of the special circumstances we had around this framing (one-of-a-kind item). Cannot say enough good things about Julie. Truly a great experience. Thanks! read more

I brought in two vintage TWA posters to be framed. I had a very specific vision for how I wanted them framed and The Studio Shop exceeded my expectations. Julie handled my order from beginning to end, and was very pleasant, knowledgeable, and personable. Janet has an amazing eye for framing art. I've taken 18th- and 19th-century drawings to her, and have never been disappointed with the results. She always has the best ideas on matting (color, size, type) and the frames themselves, which are beautiful. Recently, Janet also helped me iron out a snafu and was extremely gracious and flexible. This is why I patronize small businesses, because the service is so much better than larger-scale places! I would take any of my future art purchases to her, because she both loves and appreciates art, but also understands the art of framing! read more

I don't usually YELP, but my experience at the Studio Shop recently warrants some Yelp points. I have framed a total of 9 rare/limited addition prints by famed artists such as: Swoon, Evan Hecox, Shepard Fairey, Tomokazu Matsuyama. I have worked with Julie Venosa on both occasion and felt 100% comfortable with her design instincts and handling of my artwork. The customer experience from consultation to the end product is worth every penny. These gals are pros. The Studio Shop delivers high quality framing with a piece of mind. Julie is such a joy to work with! She has helped me over the past two years pick out various pieces of art for our home. She has a wonderful eye and really helped us bring in paintings & sculptures that fit in seamlessly with our existing pieces. She took the time to understand our taste and what kind of art we were interested in, and was then able to steer us to artists we wouldn't have found on our own. Julie also helped us pick out the frames, and we couldn't be happier. She is so knowledgeable about all the options and zeroed in on the perfect frames for our paintings. Julie's discernment and utmost professionalism made everything so easy. Everyone at the gallery made us feel welcome without any pressure. They made what could be an intimidating experience an easy one. Thank you Julie! read more

The Real Deal! This place is awesome! My wife and I first went here to get our Ketubah framed from our wedding. We were promptly helped by one of the staff who was professional, knowledgeable and had a keen eye. With her help we picked a matting and frame in about 15 min. When we picked it up we were blown away. It looked fantastic! We couldn't have asked for more. The attention to detail was unquestionable. About a month later we purchased a modern print from Upper Playground that needed framing. I wasn't sure if it would be overkill to have it done at the Studio Shop but we went ahead anyway since our last experience worked out so well. This time I went on my own and worked with another of the staff. Again we picked out the frame and matting in about 15 min. It looked like it was going to come out well but when I picked it up yesterday I was totally blown away (again!)! I don't think this print has ever looked so good, anywhere. We picked the perfect frame and matting for it. It is now hanging above our bed and every time I look at it I can't get over how clean and just amazing it looks! 5 stars all the way! This place kicks major ass! I don't think it is possible to be disappointed with work done by The Studio Shop. P.S. I usually only Yelp when I don't like a place. This experience was just too good to go unrecognized. Thanks! read more

I have to say that although I have not used The Studio Shop for my personal needs (just have not had a need)- I can highly recommend Julie to assist you when you visit the shop. I have known Julie for over 20 years, when she used to run her parents art gallery in San Francisco. She grew up in the business of art and how to present works of art, so it is this extensive knowledge that makes her a huge asset to The Studio Shop. She is a professional and can help you pick out the frames, colors, matting, etc. Give her a call or pay her a visit. Call first to make sure she works on the day you want to visit! read more

For close to ten years I have relied on The Studio Shop to handle important framing jobs for me and for my company. These have included portraits of senior leadership and historical photos and artifacts for display that had to be mounted in ways that also met the highest curatorial and preservation standards. Kristen and Janet Benson have always been the most delightful and professional folks to work with- offering expertise as well as warmth and enthusiasm every time. I also admire their love of art and the creativity with which they approach every job. While my primary focus has been on critical framing jobs, I am always impressed by the works they have displayed in their gallery and the way they manage to uncover amazing local artists and works by internationally renowned artists, through a network of connections built over decades. The Studio Shop just celebrated its 100th anniversary this year. It is a testament to the commitment of the family and to their long lasting engagement in the art world that they have not only endured but have thrived for a century. I hope for at least another century of success and leadership ahead! read more

I bought a pretty antique wood frame at a flea market and brought it to The Studio Shop to have a mirror put in. Julie and Janet gave me great advice to use a beveled mirror and have it lightly antiqued so that it looks like it belongs in the frame. It wasn't a cheap way to go, but it looks fabulous, and I'm sure I'll enjoy this mirror for many, many years to come. So, it was worth the investment. This was the first time I've used The Studio Shop and I could tell just by the phone conversation I had with Julie and walking into their beautiful space that they have passion for their work and excellent taste. When I was on my way to drop off the frame after work one evening, traffic was heavy and I knew I'd miss closing time. Janet was there and very kindly waited until I arrived! I really appreciated that and I;m happy to support this family-owned business. I will definitely return with some other framing projects! read more

The Studio Shop has the most amazing selection, by far, of frames I've ever seen, anywhere, in so many different styles. That by itself isn't what makes them so good though -- it's that they have years of experience and finely tuned taste to help pick which frame to go with which piece of art. It's amazing how much the frame can change, enhance, complete, and accentuate what's inside it. I had no idea, and am thrilled with the suggestions they made (after listening carefully to my preferences). I never would have picked the frames I ended up with, and am so happy that they suggested them. I've now had six things framed, all impeccably done, including a wonderful painting (canvas) I purchased in the studio. I can't say enough good things about the Studio Shop. read more

The Studio Shop is a rare gem. Kristen and Janet Benson and their family run framing and art gallery provide a collection of art and artists, a choice assortment of frames, quality workmanshp, a keen and knowledgeable eye when assisting with frame selection, a bit of an art history lesson, and an occasional meet the artist with a serving of wine and cheese. All this in a warm, friendly, intelligent, visually appealing and non-pressure environment. They have never faltered on customer service - never. They clearly enjoy and love their gallery and what they do. I've gone to Kristen and Janet for all of my framing needs for eight plus years now. I have also purchased several paintings from them. It's always a pleasure to recommend The Studio to friends and colleagues because I know that the same service and courtesy will be extended to them. This framing shop has a huge selection of mouldings from minimal forged steel and ornate gold leaf to beautiful hand made frames produced locally. When you want real pros to make your artwork look great, choose The Studio Shop. My wife and I appreciate their experience & expertise.

We have used the Studio Shop for several years. Not only do they represent amazing local artists but the selection of different styles makes it a great place to browse and learn about art. Kristen and Janet have a fabulous depth of knowledge and experience about all the artists they represent. Over the years, we have bought many paintings from them. Their service is very professional and as a team they are wonderful to work with. We have also used them for all our framing needs. Again, they have an excellent understanding of how to present a painting, helping with frame selections that work to all budgets. The paintings were all framed in a timely manner and if necessary, delivered and installed as part of the service. We recently had to have a painting repaired - there was a rip in the canvas. The Studio Shop handled everything and the painting came back looking perfect. This gallery is professional, detail orientated, knowledgable, with a wide range of art to suit many different tastes and budgets. read more

I had a very challenging framing project - I had hundreds of postcards from all over the world from my grandpa's Ham Radio hobby. I hoped to have them displayed in such a way that would be modern and gallery-quality. Janet came to my house and we discussed the options, deciding upon 4 large white shadowbox frames with white matting. Each card was mounted beautifully in perfectly symmetrical lines, which must have been extremely labor intensive to execute so well. The end result is stunning, and I know it is because of Janet's extremely refined and creative eye. Take your challenging projects to The Studio Shop and turn them into masterpieces! read more

The Studio Shop is one of my "happy places". I spend many an hour touring art galleries in cities all over the country and the Studio Shop is one the best curated contemporary art galleries that I have ever entered.
