I found Thrasher's on Yelp with high ratings. In addition to taking the project to Ron, I also brought photos of the wall where I intend to hang the frame showing the nearby other pictures. Showed Ron a couple of other in-house pictures that are framed. That was enough, Ron was off-to-the-races!!! He started trying some mat boards and then he went to get some frame candidates. I said nothing as I could see he was in the "artist zone" and I didn't want to break his concentration. It was fun watching him trying things. He quickly zeroed into a couple of candidate choices; either would be great choices. I picked my favorite and placed the order. I am extremely happy with the results!!!! Very nice family owned frame shop in San Carlos. I took two pieces of art to be framed. One was an older piece already framed (in a dated frame for my current esthetic) and one was a similar piece I never got around to framing. There is a large selection of frames and mats to pick from. Ron helped me pick a frame and mat that would work for both pieces. He wasn't pushy with his suggestions and he understood I wanted a clean modern look. (It was nice change from other shops I've gone to in Los Angeles and San Jose where the framers were very assertive with their opinions.). Another thing that really stood out for me is that the art pieces are slightly different in size. I thought that they were the same size but he showed me by measuring. That meant to get a symmetrical look he had to do the same size frame but different size mats. I was worried it would look odd but how he did the double mat and floated the art looks amazing. The old piece had a certificate glued to the back of the paper. It wouldn't come off but he photo copied it for me and put it on the back of the piece. I hadn't asked him to do that and it was a pleasant surprise. I would highly HIGHLY recommend this shop. It might be a little more than those chain shops but the care and attention you receive is more than worth the few extra dollars. I'm so excited to hang my newly framed pieces! read more

Artwork around my house is really important to me. Whenever I go to someone's house and they have nothing on their walls and few books on shelves, I really question their intelligence. I've gone to Thrasher's over the years for really important photos and lithographs. They were always very helpful and gave creative solutions to bring out the best of what I brought in. Each time, though, I would then proceed to be outraged at how ridiculously expensive it was and vow to go to Cheapo Frames R Us. After going to such a place, I would then regret my errant ways and go back to Thrashers next time around. A vicious cycle. Next in my cycle is a trip back to Thrashers to get my baby's body parts photo collage framed. I am sure I will not be disappointed in the quality -- just outraged at the cost. read more
