I was in a bit of a panic. Two custom frames that I had ordered from an out of state company arrived just days before my works needed to shipped out to two separate museum shows, and they were total junk. I went to a local framer in Los Gatos and he recommended I try Mario. I immediately called Mario, explained my situation and he invited me to come by that night, and that he'd help me take care it. (He stayed past business hours to help me.) True to his word, he helped me identify the best frames that could be ordered and built by my deadline, and had them ready to go. It was not cheap, but he offered a slight discount on the frame he thought would be best for my larger piece. When I came to pick up, they were meticulously wrapped and very professional. I just got word that one of my paintings that he framed was awarded the Gold Medal for Best Portrait in the California Art Club's Gold Medal Exhibition, and it sold. They created an over 90" wide framed mirror to go over a double sink area. I was trying to compliment two different colors in the bathroom, so he patiently helped me find the perfect pieces of wood. He talked about the special way he was going to hang this wide and heavy mirror. He talked about the special finish to protect the frame from water damage, as it was going in a bathroom. He did offer delivery and installation for an additional charge, which we did. So, a year later the framed mirror is still in perfect condition. As a side note, I had been looking at mirrors for about a year before coming to Bay Frames. The mirrors with lights behind them look really nice, but what about 10 years from now? Also considered large mirror cabinets, but I couldn't recess them. read more

Very happy with the work replacing the original acrylic with museum quality acrylic. I originally requested museum glass and was given all the pluses for using the acrylic as a better solution. Besides reducing the glare the museum acrylic helps protect my Ansel Adams photos from UV damage. Mario did an amazing job with my remarqued Darth Vader Canvas print. This was my first time getting something professionally framed and he was so knowledgeable and helpful. He spent a good amount of time with me to make sure I picked out the very best shade of red for the mat to match the red on the print and made sure to note my size constraints. After getting my print back about a week later, I can 100% say that I am a fan of Mario's work. I opted for museum glass and when he brought it out from the back I was so taken aback on how clean it looked. I even asked him "Is there even glass on there?!". I researched several frame shops and found that Bay Frames had a large number of satisfied customers. Mario was very professional in helping me find the perfect frames for my prints. I liked that he knew what type of frame would go well with the prints. I ended up going with a rustic look for both. He is very knowledgeable in the work that he does. It was my first time having custom frames made. Mario walked me through step-by-step. I was given a date when both prints would be framed and ready for pick-up. I waited a few days after that date and called and left a message. I didn't hear back from anyone. I stopped by the shop and was told my frames weren't ready. The reason given was that the machine used to make the frames was broken. No one called me back and no one was answering the line... so, I didn't know that the frames weren't ready. The woman (I believe Mario's wife) was in the shop that day and was very apologetic about the situation and apologized that no one returned my call. I was able to speak to Mario eventually and he explained the situation. He worked his best to get my frames completed within a day or two after the machine was repaired. My frames were ready the next day. I was upset that no one told me about the issue, but because Mario did his best to keep me a satisfied customer, I am still giving him a 5 star rating. We're very pleased with the frame that Mario at Bay Frames created for us! The art print we bought elsewhere was a non-standard size, so a custom frame was really the only solution. Glad we went here instead of the big chain store that shall remain nameless. Mario spent about 30 minutes helping us select the right mat and frame combination (which wasn't an easy task!) and the final result was flawless. The product he made was so high quality that it actually improved the art itself, which we bought elsewhere and had a sub-par print quality. Highly recommended! I live in Castro Valley but still went all the way to Fremont to drop off my rolled up art work, because the price Mario had quoted was very reasonable as compared to most other quotes, and he also had very good ratings to Yelp. Mario was very courteous and helpful in helping me choose the frame. He also offered to deliver it to my home in Castro Valley and hang it for me (this was a huge 6 feet high framed painting), again for a very reasonable fee (it wouldn't have fit in my SUV in any case). Love the bathroom vanity mirrors that Mario created for us. The wood color matched perfectly with our vanities! They're sturdy and beautiful. He even called me to let me know how my contractor handled the mirrors a bit roughly when they picked them up and that I might want to look into that when I receive the mirrors.
