My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Darien Running Company getting him fitted for new running shoes with the assistance of Kasey! Kasey facilitated an analysis of the feet while walking/standing, explained the results, and recommended various options accordingly. My husband tried HOKA, New Balance, and Adidas shoes and ended up having trouble deciding between two. Kasey helped him consider price/appearance to complete his decision! She was also excellent at engaging in conversation and providing informative, friendly service. We were in and out of the store in probably 20 minutes with a new pair of shoes/socks for little over $100! Darien Running Co was an excellent stop during our weekend away from NYC. I don't usually write reviews, but I left the Darien Running Store feeling frustrated and, honestly, a bit insulted. The first two times I came in, the service was great -- helpful, friendly, and attentive. But this last visit was a completely different story. No one greeted us when we walked in. We stood there clearly waiting, but the staff completely ignored us. They were too busy having personal conversations with other people -- not even helping them, just chatting as if it were a hangout spot. One worker spent the entire time stacking shoe boxes and never once looked up or acknowledged us. Not even a "Hey, we'll be with you in a minute." Nothing. We waited patiently, but after about 20 minutes of being completely overlooked, we just walked out. It's one thing to be busy, but this felt like they didn't care at all that we were there. It was rude, unprofessional, and disappointing -- especially considering how good the service used to be. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be coming back. Came in 20 minutes before closing for a pair of insoles. Jamie quickly started helping me out with a selection that fit my foot. Within 15 minutes, I had the right pair picked out. We have been to DRC many times in the past and had a great experience. Today, we went for shoes for my son and husband. The owner/manage/staff member left us sitting there after over a half hour of waiting while he spoke with a family all about their summer vacations and fall plans. If he would just have greeted us and said that he would be with us soon that would have made a difference. We sat there for 30 minutes and left. Went here about a year ago when I started getting really awful Plantar fasciitis to the point where it was extremely painful to walk after a long run. I was fitted for special inserts and new shoes and haven't had them since. I also found out that I was wearing sneakers that were too small for me. My go to for all things running. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and wants to make me happy in the long run rather than just making a sale. I have personally witnessed them actively NOT recommending items that would not be right for a particular customer. Their recommendations have been spot on for me and the prices are good. Don't miss out on an end of season sale if you are looking for a bargain. I appreciate their great relationships with the major shoe and accessory companies that provide many opportunities to try out the latest and greatest (or just a daily trainer) before purchasing. But I can't leave out how much they seem to give back to the community, whether it is supporting local youths or the community at large. read more

As a recent patron and advocate of supporting local businesses, I had hoped for a positive experience but was met with an encounter that left me deeply disheartened. I had visited the store a few times prior and was pleased with the warm welcome and pleasant interactions I had with the staff members. We shared laughter, engaging conversations, and I genuinely felt a sense of community both with the employees and the locals who frequented the establishment. However, today's visit was an entirely different story, one that left me feeling disrespected and unwelcome. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by two young ladies who initially appeared friendly. I informed one of them that I wished to return a pair of sandals as my mother had concerns about their safety. Subsequently, I proceeded to browse the store, intending to exchange the sandals for a pair of running shoes that had caught my eye during a previous visit. To my surprise, one of the salesgirls approached me and questioned whether I had ever shopped at the store before, despite the fact that she had witnessed me carrying a bag from your establishment. I found this inquiry to be peculiar, given my explicit mention of a return and the evident presence of a purchase from the store. When she further inquired about my experience with face scanning, I assumed she was joking and responded with a smile, stating that I was not interested. Rather than accepting my response, the salesgirl persisted, emphasizing that the face scan would only take a few mins. She kept going on about it will help in personalized recommendations tailored to my preferences. At this point, it became clear to me that my refusal was not being respected, and the situation began to feel uncomfortable and intrusive. Upon providing the salesgirl with the sandals for return, she proceeded to ask if I knew who had purchased them, even though I had explicitly stated that I was the one who made the purchase using my own credit card. To my bewilderment, she claimed that I was not in their system. This revelation only added to my confusion, as I had made previous purchases at the store, and my husband even mentioned that he had received an email regarding one of my transactions. It was disconcerting to think that my personal information and purchases were being attributed to someone else, especially considering that I made the transaction with my own business credit card. Throughout this entire exchange, the salesgirl displayed a lack of respect for personal space and a dismissive attitude that suggested I did not belong in your store. The tension was palpable, leaving me utterly perplexed and deeply hurt. It is disheartening to experience such treatment, especially in a town that celebrated "Pride for Pride Day" just yesterday, emphasizing tolerance and acceptance. I firmly believe that no customer should be made to feel unwelcome or mistreated in any establishment, let alone one that claims to be part of a supportive and inclusive community. I sincerely hope that this matter will be addressed and initiate appropriate measures to ensure that such incidents do not reoccur. It is my wish that the store can regain the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere I experienced during my initial visits. Absolutely top notch store with outstanding selection of running shoes plus a machine that measures and illustrates your foot and arch size and how your soles fall/make contact with the ground as you walk or run.
