Unbelievably great experience at Wesco…read more I'm a big, 6'2 beer league goalie with a size 15 shoe who always has a hard time finding gear, particularly skates. After speaking with Andrew who runs the pro shop (a smaller satellite Wesco store) at the Stamford Twin Rinks, he recommended I go see Nick at the main Wesco store in Brookfield. Having already spent an hour driving from the Bronx to Stamford, I was hesitant to drive another hour for gear - but I am glad I did. Andrew called Nick and informed him I was coming up, and when I arrived Nick was prepared and ready to get me fitted with a VERY gently used pair of Bauer skates that fit like a glove. I went in thinking I would try on some skates, find a pair and size I liked, and then shop around online, but when Nick said the price was $150, I couldn't leave without them (Mind you, the skates were last years model and used, but they were in perfect condition). I was in and out in about 30 minutes with a pair of skates that had been heat molded to my foot and sharpened on site to perfection. Can't thank Nick (and Andrew in Stamford!) enough for their dedication to providing the best gear and service around. I will not shop for goalie gear anywhere else again. Thank you Andrew, Nick, and Wesco!!!

I live in Maryland and still come here to pick up new hockey gear even though it's a 7 or so hour…read moredrive. Especially for goalie gear, this is one of the best stores as the goalie specialists are very knowledgeable about proper fitting and models, and are also fun to chat with. Although the prices for the gear are the same as all other hockey/goalie stores, they do have a very wide selection and also some used gear if you're looking to buy discounted equipment for a lot less and don't mind if it's been used a little.

I don't post reviews but I had such a great experience and wanted to make sure that Dave and his…read moreteam received a well-deserved one. Over the years, I've purchased multiple pairs of custom ice hockey skates from Westside. Dave and his team are pros and will take the time with you to ensure you have properly fitted skates. For skates, their business model is less like a traditional drop-in pro shop and more of a custom experience, so be sure to make an appointment - you will receive gold-standard treatment. Another thing - my skates prematurely broke down after a year of usage due to a manufacturer defect, and Dave went out of his way to make it right by working with the manufacturer to replace it. Westside stands by the products it sells and will ensure satisfaction with your purchase. I will continue to purchase my next pair of skates here.

He is very knowledgeable and thorough when it comes to skate fitting. I really appreciated David's explanation of all the steps of getting the perfect fit for my boot. Between the heat molding, punching, and modifications he made to my skates, it really was so worth it. (Just be prepared to be in the shop for a good chunk of time!) Today I skated for the first time with the new boots and blades and the sharpening was absolutely perfect, I have never glided like I did today. David will definitely will be my new go-to for sharpening, 100% worth the trip! Thank you so much David!

Darien sport shop seems to have survived the online revolution with help from, you guessed it Santa…read moreClaus. Every year Santa comes and kids line up from across the country to sit on his lap and tell them what they want. In Darien, that could be a new Canada goose jacket (available at DSS) or a new pair of Nordic skis (available at DSS). Maybe even a new Range Rover (not available but DSS can order it). And for the adults who brave the intense December line to catch a glimpse of the big guy, they setup a makeshift bar (no charge of course) with Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, Beer, Wine, all the fixings. Back to Santa, did I mention this guy is the real deal? He claims that he runs a bird seed shop in the off season, lol. Yea Kringle, I ain't buying it. Tell those elves at the North Pole that the socks you brought me in '94 were bull$#&!. Jk I'm a good boy I take it back.

Or they OVER buy on a trend from the 2000's....There's no variety. There's nothing that makes this place worth a visit. Most of the staff is just as uninspiring. They offer a halfhearted greeting when you walk in, but beyond that, they're completely disengaged--mostly standing around with their arms crossed, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else. Which makes sense because they barely make minimum wage, which is concerning considering how much the owner walks away with year after year. I probably wouldn't be inspired to help customers either. It's pretty obvious that the owner of this store couldn't care less about their employees--or their customers, for that matter. Unless you're looking for outdated clothes and indifferent service, I'd recommend shopping elsewhere. Go shop at the family owned business Richard's in Greenwich much better selection, happy employees and OWNERS!
