Don't like feeling like the shop does not care. Interested in the sale not the relationship. Not worth the time.

Usually, I don't review much outside of restaurants. There's never really a need to do so. That…read moresaid, I want to make an exception here because even though it is an expensive place, it's been a go-to place of mine for years. It might not look like it from the outside, but this is a huge store with lots of outdoor stuff you can buy inside. The staff are very helpful here too, and $30 will get you a lifetime membership with REI no matter which one you go to. That $30 pays for itself very quick if you know when to go and what to look for. For me personally, it's been a great place to get my sporting needs such as running shorts, swimsuits, and energy gels. Not only that, but they have a great selection of backpacks for whenever I need to buy a new one. Most recently, I went in for new shoes and the staff here were able to help me quickly and bring me what I needed right away. I don't mind splurging if the product is worth it, and I'm going to keep coming to this REI whenever the situation calls for it.

Mostly what you will find here are high end brands and the Rei brand is of good quality but if you're on a budget there is very little to be had here. With that said, I get a lot of use out of the clothing I purchase so it's more of a buy once cry once situation. A lot of places are moving to a smaller footprint and more online shopping. This doesn't really work well for me but it is kinda the way the world is turning. Most average size people will be able to find something here but if you are on the smaller side or for kids there is a very limited selection

I needed a new pair of skis after using my mom's hand-me-downs for the past 6 years. I was hesitant…read moreto visit Pedigree because of the iffy reviews, but I'm glad I went! My boyfriend and I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't crowded and we were helped right when we walked into the ski section. The staff member who helped me was David and he was not only knowledgeable and even excited to help me pick out a pair of skis, but was personable and very friendly. I told him my experience level and budget, and he picked out a few pairs of skis, both this season and last season, for my height and skill level. He explained the differences in camber/rocker skis, stiffness, height, shapes, etc. He even asked if I had a preference in brand or color. The skis he showed me were a bit over my budget, but he explained that more intermediate level skis with more advanced technology and stiffness were a bit pricier than your average beginner ski - makes sense. Since I was on the fence about going over budget, David kindly put the skis I was interested in on hold for 24 hours to let me think about it. He also mentioned that I could wait until the Columbus Day tent sale if I couldn't decide. When I went home I did a bit of research to make sure I wasn't paying more than I should, and based on online pricing and other reviews, I was getting a great deal on the atomic skis I picked out. I went back the next day and told the staff members I put a pair of skis on hold and they brought out the skis and rang me up! It seems like the bad reviews all stem from bad experiences with staff members. At any of the ski shops/surf shops I've ever been to, there are always those bro-y types that just want to work there to get store discounts and hang out with their friends. I suggest going in well educated about skis with an idea of what you want and what you want to spend. And if a staff member really is bothersome or not helpful (again, I've run into a lot of them over the years), there are others that work there (ask for David!). On the other hand, if you are well educated and a staff member makes a suggestion you don't agree with, don't listen! And while most people say that this shop is overpriced, my research proved to me the skis I was looking at were correctly priced, and honestly, skiing is just expensive, but if you want cheap skis that last one season, by all means, find some on craigslist. I had a great experience at Pedigree and can't wait to pick up my skis and hit the slopes!

Darien sport shop seems to have survived the online revolution with help from, you guessed it Santa…read moreClaus. Every year Santa comes and kids line up from across the country to sit on his lap and tell them what they want. In Darien, that could be a new Canada goose jacket (available at DSS) or a new pair of Nordic skis (available at DSS). Maybe even a new Range Rover (not available but DSS can order it). And for the adults who brave the intense December line to catch a glimpse of the big guy, they setup a makeshift bar (no charge of course) with Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, Beer, Wine, all the fixings. Back to Santa, did I mention this guy is the real deal? He claims that he runs a bird seed shop in the off season, lol. Yea Kringle, I ain't buying it. Tell those elves at the North Pole that the socks you brought me in '94 were bull$#&!. Jk I'm a good boy I take it back.

Or they OVER buy on a trend from the 2000's....There's no variety. There's nothing that makes this place worth a visit. Most of the staff is just as uninspiring. They offer a halfhearted greeting when you walk in, but beyond that, they're completely disengaged--mostly standing around with their arms crossed, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else. Which makes sense because they barely make minimum wage, which is concerning considering how much the owner walks away with year after year. I probably wouldn't be inspired to help customers either. It's pretty obvious that the owner of this store couldn't care less about their employees--or their customers, for that matter. Unless you're looking for outdated clothes and indifferent service, I'd recommend shopping elsewhere. Go shop at the family owned business Richard's in Greenwich much better selection, happy employees and OWNERS!
