As I sat there, I reflected on just having paid down another G in debt (another poker tourney win) and having changed so much back to the calm and happy version of myself since deleting social media. However, that might have gone well for me but not for others. Life is so strange. I'll explain. After being a raging maniac for about a year, I wanted to even things out with the universe so I visited a local old age home. I got to know four of the elderly women (platonically) and they enjoyed my company so I went back again. This time, we played Ring Around The Rosie outside because I wanted them to get some sun and thought it would bring them back to their youth. It went well until one of them had a heart attack. So, that wasn't good. At least they didn't all fall down. Anyway, these are the life experiences I ponder while sitting at Valvoline. As far as this Valvoline goes, they do a good job. Definitely recommended.

I also rarely go out of my way to make bad reviews on Yelp, but this place completely deserves every bad review that comes their way. My boyfriend and I took his car to get an oil change and tire rotation. The service was fast, but the staff were incredibly avoidant, unprofessional, and rude. For example, after we paid, they just walked off and didn't confirm that we were done. They also didn't hand us back our keys. Valvoline is known for the professionalism and kindness in their staff, this place is not practicing that. Additionally, they made zero eye contact with us the entire time we were there. Upon leaving the place, we happened to glance at his receipt before throwing it away. We noticed they marked down that he had a "severe oil leak" in the car. We were freaking out because they didn't mention it. Surely, a mechanic would notify their customer if their vehicle had a major oil leak. We drove all the way back and asked them what they meant by this, considering they let us drive off the property without notifying us. The mechanics looked at us like we were crazy for driving all the way back. They replied with "Uhh... yeah. There's a pretty bad leak along the whole bottom of the car," and no sense of urgency or elaboration. It didn't seem like they knew anything about cars. That was a major safety hazard. I have never in my life been to an auto/mechanic place that didn't notify customers about serious issues, like a major oil leak, before letting customers drive off the property. Additionally, if my boyfriend knew it was leaking, he would've gotten it fixed before getting an oil change. Beware of this place. I will never trust them to work on my car, or anyone else's, ever again. The Northlake Valvoline is incredibly professional. The staff there are awesome. We'll be going to that one from now on. It's worth the extra five minute drive to avoid this place!

And I'm sure I'm not the only guy in the world who isn't just lazy, but also knows nothing about cars whatsoever. Heck, the most maintenance I can perform on my car is refilling the wiper spray. So with all that said, I need to go to one of these super quick lubes to get my oil change on. Now I will start this review off my admitting I did not know where I was when I pulled up. I normally go to Valvoline, and one day when passing by this location I said "oh look, a Valvoline! I'll go here when my car is due." Turns out I did not read the Valvoline sign but a Havoline sign, so the precious coupon I had printed out did me no good. The first employee who greeted me upon pulling up to the service bay was not the friendliest guy in the world. When I told him this was my first time here he thrust a pad of paper through the window and didn't really say what it's purpose was for. A simple "can you fill this out" would have been sufficient. Once that was done I was told to wait in the little lobby area. It was your average quick lube waiting area, complete with stale smell, TV with volume turned all the way down, and those quarter candy machines that are probably changed on an annual basis. There was a window into the service bay so you should have been able to watch as the employees worked on your car, but the window was conveniently blocked off at the bottom by a row of oil containers so that you could not see your car; just the employees heads. There was a point when they employee working on my car took a break to take a personal call on his cell phone, and the employee stationed at the cashier station was talking on his cell phone non-stop, including when he was in the process of ringing me up. Of course they did their little spiel where they came out and said "this is what you should be doing today based on manufacturer's suggestions" and blah blah blah. In the end the oil change came out to $36 and change, which I thought was a bit steep. The lame service and high price definitely did nothing to win me over, and I'll definitely be on the lookout for a different place to take my car to 3,000 miles from now.

Things like checking a battery is $150 where this is free at all auto parts places. $100's of dollars to run an obd diagnostic which is also free at any auto parts place. Parts here are DOUBLE the price of any other place. AAA towing service insisted my elderly parents bring their car here 20+ miles away rather than dropping off at our local garage that we trust and has serviced our vehicle many times. Basically a battery swap just cost my elderly parents on a fixed income over $1000. Not cool and I highly recommend any other place.

As Hurricane Helene evacuees, the last thing I needed was a car repair and giant service bill, but these guys took awesome care of me, performed a whole car inspection, and made sure my son &' I were safe on the road. I didn't have to ask for tires to be air pressure equalized. I am switching to AAA Complete Car care when I get home. Sure you can use the standalone mechanics, but you aren't going to get complete care and records in proper order. Then you could go to the discount tire people for your tires and save a bit of money. Or you can pay a fortune at a dealership to get the same service as AAA. I feel like AAA is the smart choice for me, because they keep up with what is due when, so I don't have to schedule it on my calendar per my owners manual. I'm a fan, surprisingly!
