They prey on the elderly here charging $100's of dollars for unnecessary services and charging ridiculous amounts for what is free at other places. Things like checking a battery is $150 where this is free at all auto parts places. $100's of dollars to run an obd diagnostic which is also free at any auto parts place. Parts here are DOUBLE the price of any other place. AAA towing service insisted my elderly parents bring their car here 20+ miles away rather than dropping off at our local garage that we trust and has serviced our vehicle many times. Basically a battery swap just cost my elderly parents on a fixed income over $1000. Not cool and I highly recommend any other place. read more

Surprisingly a new fan! Excellent, fast, same day and over the top service. Gave me a ride to my hotel (praise sweet baby Jesus!) . As Hurricane Helene evacuees, the last thing I needed was a car repair and giant service bill, but these guys took awesome care of me, performed a whole car inspection, and made sure my son &' I were safe on the road. I didn't have to ask for tires to be air pressure equalized. I am switching to AAA Complete Car care when I get home. Sure you can use the standalone mechanics, but you aren't going to get complete care and records in proper order. Then you could go to the discount tire people for your tires and save a bit of money. Or you can pay a fortune at a dealership to get the same service as AAA. Took the Minivan in for an oil change and the service advisor said the valve cover gaskets were leaking and recommend $ 1200 repair. I asked to see the leak and was brought back to the van on a lift . I saw oil sprayed all over the engine bottom there was just one big problem the oil was fresh oil not old dirty black oil and they had not done the oil change yet. When questioned them on how does the oil stay fresh and clean after 4000 miles they stopped answering my questions. It was a setup to get unnecessary work done or actually no work done as I told them to take it down from the lift and left . I have lost trust in AAA ! read more

I am not sure why I keep coming back here. Honestly I only come here to get my state inspection. The main reason for my disappointment is the service and friendliness of the people. I think that it's the delivery of the messages. I made an appointment over the phone and it was relatively easy. That was the good. there isn't really a lot of bad, but it's just the overall attitude of the shop. When I arrived, I was greeted and explained why I was here and that I had an appointment. Had all my documents, but just felt really dismissed. Sat down in the waiting area. They serviced my vehicle and summoned me over to the check out area. Again, how much time does it take to walk over and greet me and say, your car is ready. Little things matter. read more

Dangerous! Shady shady rip off. 2300 dollars later after going in for break pads. After the first visit I spent 1k drive right across the street. It sounds like metal scraping metal and won't rev. Go back in, they said it's fine. Go to drive home and it's smoking and bellowing from the car. Crazy! Tow that back and "fix" that another 1100 later drive a mile away, a few hours later have puddles and leaks coming from THREE different places. Transmission fluid is everywhere. They said some things weren't connected right so I had to pay for the parts that they didn't have the first time (huh). Also driving to friend's right across the street I get a new nail. Add another 200. Went 4 or 5 times in a week and 24 hours later BING check engine light comes on. This is now a huge cause for concern. For oil to be leaking everywhere after 2100 of work and 3 visits at that point, is dangerous. read more

We had the tires rotated here and a couple months afterward my husband realized that they didn't return the wheel lock. In the event of a tire issue we couldn't have removed a tire! My husband called and spoke to Mike who assured him that he would look for the lost lock and call back, which he didn't do. The next day my husband called again and spoke to Mike who said he looked but couldn't find it. This is not the first issue we have had with this facility. They charge way too much for oil changes and state inspections, with added fees for tint. I thought being a member had some additional benefits but the only one that benefits is AAA! read more

AAA is my go-to​ place for travel needs. For an upcoming trip, I needed more foreign currency. A friend advised that AAA was able to order some and it was received in a couple of​ days. That was music to my ears. I stopped in but had to go back to the bank. They only accept cash or a check for foreign currency, no cards. That took all of 15 minutes or so. Upon my return, the order was ready to be placed. The currency arrived two days later, right on schedule. They called to notify me and reminded me to bring my order form. I had no issues and service was excellent. This is only one of the many benefits of AAA. Oh, they also offer AAA Care Care Service at this location. Terrible experience. They told me I needed a thermostat replaced and a coolant flush from a P2181 engine light. $1088 later and no more than 10 miles driving to get back home, my car was leaking everywhere. The coolant light came on, I popped the hood to find that there was no coolant and it was bone dry. I now have stains all in my driveway and garage. I had to have my car towed back to AAA in Huntersville for them to fix their issue. Over $400 was just for labor cost and now I cannot even drive my car. They claimed to have fixed the issue but the very next day my engine light came back on for the very initial reason I brought it in, for P2181. I will NEVER go back to AAA again! It is a money pit, they do NOT know what they are doing, and they certainly do NOT have top notch mechanics. They will be hearing from my lawyer. read more

All I needed was a simple inspection. I will give them one star for being quick. What I do not feel was right was charging me $10 EXTRA for window tint. I would understand the additional charge if the window tint appeared to be dark, but my window tint is barely visible, in fact I didn't even know I had window tint. This location is usually pretty good. We've always made appts ahead of time, and they always take the cars on time. They do take their time for oil changes (1-2 hrs) but since there's a Starbucks next door, it's not too bad of a wait. We've come here for maps of different cities we're visiting, and I've talked to their car insurance section as well. Very friendly staff, just make sure you know the wait time is long. read more

On September 1, 2018, we ran into car troubles and were towed to the Huntersville, NC AAA Car Care Center. We were thankful they were able to work on our car as we were only about 250 miles into a 900-mile trip when the trouble occurred. They were able to repair the problem (the clip that connects the fuel line to the fuel filter broke and gas leaked everywhere). Within about an hour and a half, they fixed it and we were on our way. Unfortunately, about 100 miles down the road the oil gauge light came on. We pulled off the road to see what was going on. We quickly found out that the AAA Car Care Center shop did not properly fill the van with oil after the repair. In addition to that, they did not replace the coolant in the reservoir either; it was empty. To add insult to injury, the shop did not put the reservoir cap back on the coolant reservoir nor did they replace the bolt that holds the coolant reservoir in place. Needless to say, I wasn't happy when I saw that. We added coolant and had to create a makeshift coolant cap using aluminum foil and rubber bands. We added a quart of oil and hoped we would be okay for the remaining 650 or so miles of our trip. Fortunately, we made it home safely with no further issues. I was thankful that the Huntersville, NC AAA Center was able to fix the problem (hence the 3 stars), but they should take the time to complete the job properly. Just a side note: A few months ago my hubby's car ran into trouble and it was towed by AAA to a Triple A approved shop in New York. That shop fixed the problem for a total cost of $59. They did not charge a diagnostic fee. The Huntersville, NC AAA location charged a $109.95 diagnostic fee before they even looked at the vehicle. read more

The people who work here are very friendly. However, the AAA inspection report filing system is severely flawed. They are not allowed to fail a tire due to dry rot. My 4/25 report came back with tires passing the inspection and yet the picture they took clearly showed dry rot. After having a blowout on the highway I called this location back to ask if the picture of the tire had dry rot and they indeed indicated it did and noted that they can't fail a tire inspection due to dry rot. Dry rot is a safety concern so while I understand that they can't fail a tire due to dry rot, why can not at least not indicate that it is a safety concern? The costly engine components always have suggestions of replacing due to visible worn age, and yet the tires passed with flying colors receiving no suggestion of replacement. And this is all because of the safety inspection procedure at AAA that doesn't allow employees to fail a tire. This needs to be brought up to corporate. This is dangerous!!! read more

I received my renewal notice and after an hour and a half trying to renew online with several calls to AAA support, I finally gave up. All of the support agents were useless, ambivalent and even belligerent because I had not paid dues to the Carolinas only to club south. TL:DR- 17.95 oil change actually costs 31.95, Classic Bait and Switch tactics. My wife had a coupon from AAA for a $17.95 oil change. When she got there for her oil change, they fed her some line about getting an extra 2000 miles out of her oil change for just 6 dollars more, which then changed to 10 dollars more when she went in to pick up her car. When I saw the bill, they actually charged her almost 32.00 dollars for the oil change, and that is after a 22 dollar discount. The prices on their oil changes, for AAA members, are 34.95, 44.95, and 54.95. They are described as good, better, best. Even the lowest cost oil change is described as being good for 5,000 miles. So all in all, they gave her a 3$ discount off of her oil change, and charged her almost double what the coupon indicated. If these are the tactics they use for simple oil changes, we won't be going back, ever. read more

Does this sound fishy to anyone else? I took my car in for an oil change. The report showed that my battery was very low on cranking amps and I needed a new one. I went back a couple of days later after I found the paperwork on my battery and it was still under warranty. Had the car towed to this location with a flat tire and damaged rim. They told me I need a new tire to put on the new rim. After picking up the car, Iasked for the old tire. The tire was not damaged and when I asked why they did not put the old tire which was only 1 year old, they told me AAA policy is not to remount old tires, only new tires. What a rip off. Two weeks ago my daughter took her car in for an oil change. They called and told her she needed new brakes and rotors. We happened to be together and after she got off the phone and told me, I got that icky feeling in my gut that she was being scammed. She had given them the go ahead and I immediately called them back and told them to wait until I spoke with my husband. He said, "Well, I've already ordered the parts so there may be a re-stocking fee." This was within minutes after she got off the phone. After discussing it with my husband, we told them not to do it. He again told my daughter there might be a re-stocking fee. They didn't charge one when we picked up her car. Now, fast forward to today when she took her car to a highly rated shop near her home to have the brakes repaired and was told that neither her brake pads or rotors need to be replaced, they're at 6 mm and they're generally replaced at 2 mm. She questioned them and they said, "I wouldn't let you drive in a car that wasn't safe. I also won't charge you for a service you don't need." I always trust my gut even though my brain was worried about her driving if she needed new rotors. We will never again give them business with any of our five cars. Very poor service. Made an appointment for 10 am and brought car in for emissions test and oil change. After checking out the car for an hour or so, they advised me that I needed new brakes. I approved that repair and asked for the shuttle. They could not find the shuttle, so my son came and picked me up, now it's 11:45. At the end of the day, my car was ready so my son drove me back. They did not have the emissions certificate and when I asked for it, AAA told me I didn't need it. I insisted and they printed it. When I got back home, I realized it was not for my car. My emissions also had not been entered onto the state's website so I could not renew my registration. When I called AAA, they told me I had to bring the car back so they could hook it up to the machine (I think they never did the test initially, but they did charge me). Another hour of waiting, and after my 3rd round trip with another emissions certificate in hand, this one for my car, I again tried the state registration website. Nothing. The car did pass emissions! It was Friday evening by this point. Next day, Saturday, I tried again to renew car's registration. Nothing. I filled out an online form to the state to ask the state agency what to do in this case, and noticed that AAA had not entered my car's VIN correctly on the emissions certificate. So I called AAA again, and guess what? They told me I had to bring the car back AGAIN so they could run another emissions test! I paid AAA $500 for repairs, oil change, and emissions, and had to make 4 round trips to their shop over 2 days so they could correct their multiple emissions test errors. No refunds, coupon, shuttle help. Not worth the hassles! read more

Once again the AAA team came to my rescue. Today it was Brad Hovis. Here's a guy who didn't have. Courtesy vehicle driver or his sidekick there on a Monday morning at 7:30 am with a complicated mechanical situation. Not only did he get the problem under evaluation, had a tech give me a ride, but he even had the coffee made. Come on, this is what you call multi-tasking and then some. But even more than that, his demeanor was spot on, very kind, professional, and not rattled. This man deserves some kind of employee of the hare award. I have been using this facility for several years for my three cars and never had a complaint, always felt comfortable wit heir service and diagnosis. I don't know if all AAA facilities are the same but they should use this facility and their staff as a study model. I will never go to any other repair service, not even to repair a tire. I have visited the AAA Huntersville Office twice within the last six months for two reasons: initially to gather information for an RV trip and secondly, to obtain North Carolina maps and guides for a friend interested in moving here from New York. On both of these instances, I was assisted by one of the office's travel agents, Ashley Dunn. She actually remembered me from my first visit (months earlier) and after a short recap, inquired about the success of the RV trip with my 85 year old mother! She was most helpful in suggesting literature for my friend in consideration of relocating. Both times, Ashley was professional, knowledgeable and helpful.
