Immaculate. Wonderful service instilling a sense of comfort from the moment you enter. Authentic Chinese dishes matching if not surpassing some I've been to previously. Personally as person who devours asian food instantly, the combination of food, service and atmosphere left me speechless and savoring every minute of my time there. True Euphoria in those moments. Thank you. read more

Great food, always friendly service. Have only done takeout but always people eating in. Parking lot is narrow but plenty of parking.

Great Chinese restaurant; tasty food; pleasant atmosphere; good service. Friendly staff!

Weekend dinner sit down experience. Small cozy restaurant, but seems newer built, clean and well lit place. There was a 10 minute wait and there are seats indoor and outdoor to wait. Service is great. Server makes good recommendations, most importantly he was willing to make any dish vegetarian without meat. Food came promptly and tasted fresh. Everything we ordered was spot on. It's a BYOB place. A must read more

Elevated Chinese food. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. It's a great first date spot or family spot. Complimentary hot tea. Of course I ordered the Shanghai soup dumplings, so good! I also ordered cold sesame noodles, which were even better the next day. Popcorn chicken, lightly breaded and similar to Taiwanese styled popcorn chicken. The stuffed eggplant with shrimp and scallop was the star of the show! Delicious! I love when there's a seafood/eggplant dish on the menu, you know it's going to be good. I would come back any day of the week. Service was great as well. So attentive! read more

Gone are the days of having to trek into Chinatown in NYC to get great soup dumplings and other favorites. Dao Madison is hitting it out of the park. The soup dumplings are amazing, and all the other dishes we had were delicious. The pork with scallions was a fan favorite! Service could not have been better (or friendlier). Not a huge dining area, so I imagine there could be a wait on weekends or during dinner time, but they turn the tables fairly quickly. read more

Please explain to me how it takes an hour and 15 minutes to prepare a take out order but people eating in house are in and out before your confirmed order time. This is the second and last time ordering from them where I waited over an hour for my order. And whats worse is they couldn't even get it right! They do nothing to offer their apologies. How about offer a cup of tea while people are standing like cattle waiting? Throw in some almond cookies as a treat with orders. Sorry Dao, this used to be repeat customer will not be returning. read more

We came at 7:30 on a Saturday and it was pretty busy. A short while later and we were seated. They said that they can make any dish gluten free but, as we found out when ordering, that only applies to one appetizer - the shrimp dumplings. So we ordered those, kung pao shrimp, and beef fried rice. The dumplings were huge and so tasty! Had to ask for a different sauce for them since the one they come with isn't GF. The beef was so tender and the sprouts and onion were very crisp. My friend thought the rice could have used a bit more flavor but I don't notice that, otherwise it was just a very fresh dish. The kung pao shrimp came with peanuts and what appeared to be water chestnuts but was crispier and tastier than any I've ever had and that was a pleasant surprise. The shrimp was well cooked and tender (although the dumpling was a bit more so but jumbo sized shrimp). It also came with a side of rice. They give you tea as soon as you sit down and it's hot and delicious and the check comes with fortune cookies. Super friendly and accommodating staff and there's always someone around to ask for something! read more

So delicious! We really enjoyed the food here and the staff is super nice and welcoming. I liked the fact that they offer tea and a basket of wonton crisps to enjoy while ordering. Their special mala dry pots are so good! My only little advice is the lighting in the dining is SO bright. Would love for it to be balanced. I really enjoy this place. read more

This is my first time trying Dao Madison and it will not be my last! I worked an overnight shift so came a bit early for lunch on a Saturday. My mistake, thought they opened at 11 not 11:30am, but it was pouring rain outside and they graciously welcomed me right inside. I was met with a lovely pot of tea to help warm me up as well. The inside was clean, neat, and tidy. All the staff I encountered were pleasant and friendly. Now, the food... Absolutely unbelievable! I ordered the fried pork dumplings and ate them so fast I forgot to take a photo. Crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. The soup dumplings were piping hot and full of the most delicious, rich broth. Lastly, as plain vanilla as it may sound, the General Tso's here was probably the best I've ever had. A clearly homemade sauce with sweet, gentle spice, not overly hot or sugary. The chicken was moist, tender, and not overly breaded. I came here alone for my first time and cannot wait to bring back family and friends. 5 stars, can't wait to try more of the menu! read more

Dao Madison - Shanghai Soup Dumplings (6) General Tsos Chicken - Chinese Near Me - Madison, New Jersey

Great food, great price and great dining service and environment is something that I rarely get to write about these days. But this place is a rare experience. I learned about this place through a friend at work, so we would order for lunch delivery. They have great lunch specials so it was always a treat for our team. The food as take-out is consistently good. But the other day, my husband and I some time to kill before our appt nearby. So we decided to go dine-in person for lunch. Beyond happy with that decision as I was so blown away by the experience. First of all, it is easy to park, no parallel street parking to search for unlike rest of Madison main street area. When we walked-in we were greeted by two very warm and welcoming ladies. The decor is soothing, modern and the music somewhat reminded me of a spa. We were given complimentary tea and chips which my husband said is unlike most teas you often get at an Asian restaurant which is either too bland or too steeped and dark thereby being bitter. We shared the famous soup dumplings and each a lunch special. The lunch specials came with choice of soup as well. So my husband and I had the wonton soup. This staple soup along with my orange chicken and my husband's boneless spare ribs were the best versions we've ever had. My dish wasn't overly breaded and mushy, and neither dish was dependent on the sauce to give it flavor unlike most Chinese places. And I will repeat what all others have said, the steamed soup dumplings are truly the best! Big difference with dine in vs take out, as this dish is all about timing. Even better when you enjoy asap vs take out. Our server was Steve with the strong booming voice and warm smile. I was impressed by how he would remember what the regulars would usually order (lots of regular diners that day) . And the hostess tended to many of the elderly diners who came in that day with such great care. We don't live nearby, but this place is worth the 30 min+ for us to drive and enjoy all this again. Hands down, my new all time favorite place for Chinese food. read more

Finally, good Chinese food in the area. The owners have owned several successful Chinese restaurants over the years. They owned a successful restaurant called Tung Ting in Centerport Long Island before moving back to Asia for some years. The food was excellent the night we went. We started off with some pork fried dumplings and soup dumplings both were very good. The pork fried rice was very good and not greasy at all. The dish that was my favorite was the peppercorn filet of beef. It was delicious!! The regular items like chicken and broccoli and chicken lo mein were great. So happy we have a go to Chinese restaurant in the area now. read more

Thanks, Yelp, for cluing me onto Dao. I gave it a test run with an order of hot and sour soup and fried dumplings. Both were excellent, much elevated over standard area Chinese. Ever get fresh enoki in your hot and sour soup? Here you do. Wonderfully thin dough dumplings, clearly made in house, not from a freezer bag. Can't wait to try more items! read more

Dao Madison - Delightful waiting area for takeout orders - Chinese Near Me - Madison, New Jersey

Still good food and flavors but have seen a decline in quality the past couple orders. Food that is intended to be crispy has been soggy and over-sauced and I've noticed less meat, more fat and more breading. Certain takeout menu items are not significantly better than local takeout places. Still a good option with good food but I prefer more consistency. read more

What can I say, Dao in Madison is Damn good. It was a bit of a trek to get to Dao, but it was well worth the journey. The hot and sour soup was sheer perfection. Loaded with different types of mushrooms and just the right level of heat. The fried rice was atypical. Fluffy, loaded with pork, shrimp and veggies, and thankfully not loaded with soy sauce. The prawn dish with honeyed walnuts was beyond plentiful. Eight huge, luscious prawns teeming with flavor. Hunan lamb was just spicy enough with nothing baaad about it. Lots of lamb, lots of vegetables and lots of flavor. The cold sesame noodles were also quite delicious. One warning. If you want house mustard and duck sauce as opposed to those awful packets, make sure they give you enough. As generous as they are with all of their dishes, they were incredibly chintzy with the condiments. Overall, Dao is a Wow! read more

This is the best Chinese food in Morris County by a long shot - and I've probably tried them all. Hunan Taste in Denville is a close second. But this place never fails. Their spicy chili oil, with the dumplings, is awesome. I wish they sold that stuff on its own. Their fried rice isn't that fake, yellow stuff you get at bad Chinese places. It's clearly freshly fried with real ingredients. This place is very, very good. You can also substitute, for a fee, white meat only for you chicken dishes. It's well worth it! Sesame chicken with only white meat is the way to go. read more

A bit of a higher end Chinese spot. Have only had a couple of the lunch specials (soup or egg roll with various dishes for under $15) but they were good. They also have a number of dishes that you do not see at other places so I will have to try them. Service is top notch. read more

Excellent service, delicious food and pleasant ambiance. Their XLB Bao in Small Steamer are authentic.

Ate here twice. It's a new, cute little place in Madison. Very clean and serviceable. Tables with tablecloth's and real utensils. Not your typical take out, but a small Family owned restaurant, so you will see the owners. The food was pretty good. I've ordered the salt pepper squid, the beef and broccoli, the chicken and broccoli, the egg rolls and the beef Lo Mein. No, I didn't eat all that flood in one visit. Why the four stars you ask? The Portions are small for the price. The salt pepper squid had about six to eight pieces. I guess I'm spoiled by the Dim Sum Place in Parsippany that serves plenty for 2-3 people. I may go again when in the area and if I'm the mood for Chinese. read more

This is a great local Chinese restaurant. The soup dumplings and the Szechuan dumplings are both phenomenal (so are the pork dumplings as well). Nice staff. This is such a cute suburban Chinese spot with the best service ever! Everyone was so kind and pleasant. Loved the hot tea and the fried wonton strips with duck sauce to begin with. The food was amazing too! My favorites were the soup dumpling and the classic mama chicken. We got spice level 2 and it was just the right amount of spice. The mala chicken had so many fresh veggies and was just yum. We also ordered veggie lo mein - which was underwhelming so I will skip it next time. But love this restaurant and will be back :) read more

When I heard that the owners of Dao used to own Tung Ting, a restaurant that we loved to go to on Long Island in the 80's we had to give this place a try. Wow! Great food and very friendly service. The place was spotless! Steps above any take out and most sit down restaurants

Outstanding, authentic, fresh, flavorful dishes. Highlights of our recent visit included beautiful Mala Dry Pot, Xiaolongbao Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Singapore Mei Fun style curry noodles, and Salt & Pepper Calamari. The soup dumplings are the best in the area, and nearly as good as famous dumplings at Joe's Shanghai in the city. The Mala Dry Pot is next-level good, a secret family recipe with a multitude of subtle layers of flavors and heat. And overall every dish is elevated above standard Chinese restaurant fare with love, care, fresh ingredients, and precise cooking times. The interior atmosphere is also lovely, it's a great place to eat in, and the staff / family that run this establishment are very friendly and considerate. read more

I ate here for my birthday. They took my reservation for 3. We arrived in the early evening on a Monday night and was surprised to see this joint was jumping at the early hour of 6pm. Yes this place gets busy and you do need reservstions. By the way they are closed on Tuesdays as of this writing. The food is great. All the vegetables, mushrooms, shrimps, and scallops were fresh. Service is very attentive and accommodating. I had the ma la pot house special with everything- beef, chicken, shrimp, scallops and yuba. It hit the spot. We also ordered the san pei ji or the tricup basil chicken. My husband got his usual which is kung pao chicken. I have never seen this classic dish san pei ji on a menu - how nice! The waiter and I had an easy rapport. Actually he remembered my name and mentioned it all night. Who does that? LoL. Now my mother in law thinks all Asian people know each other. Something silly like this always happens to me in NJ Chinese restaurants. I must have a silly look or something. I asked if they owned another resto. This place is very professional; if a resto is this good its usually from experience. The guy mentioned a famous midtown Manhattan Chinese restaurant. Hhm, I am not surprised. I also remain very impressed. Sometimes you just want to have a nice sit down classy Chinese resto. This restaurant is decorated and has a nice ambiance even. It is great to have this in Madison. Now I want this in Millburn! They did not disappoint! I will be back! read more

I was excited to try this Chinese food by looking at good reviews but I was bit disappointed. It all depends on what people put as first priority, but this food is not for me. These are the reasons: 1. Full of oil - oil comes a lot from the plate especially from the dish. There is side snack. Usually this snack comes with soup and doesn't have oil much but juice of oil came from the snack every time bite. It poured into my clothes... Surprised. 2. Full of sauce - fried rice I ordered was just soy sauce rice and rice was very hard. It was hard to chew.. No veggies it's just small piece of onion... basically soy sauce rice. 3. Shrimp tastes old and didn't taste like shrimp. 4. Soup wasn't salty so it is good but tastes like more hot water with some kind of MSG(?) so not salty is good but meat might be old since it smelled old beef. 5. Portion is small for price. One container has rice and dish not two plates. 4. Customer service was good. So all depends on how people think but it was pretty oily and small portion for the price. read more

I ordered through UberEats the popcorn chicken and Singapore rice noodle I didn't like the popcorn chicken at all, but I really liked the Singapore rice noodle. The portions were very generous especially for the noodle dish. Both dishes were on the greasy side. In person dining may be completely different though. I will give this place another chance though! read more

I am so shocked that this place is rated with as many stars as it is. First off, after waiting 15 minutes to be seated, our server didn't come for another 10 minutes (at least). Second, it all such a let down. My partner's veggie dumplings were cold inside, so he had to get them to heat them up. And in general, we found the food incredibly bland. Absolutely nothing remarkable. My scallion pancakes were just basic basic basic. And the veggie dry hot pot was anything but dry -- it was sopping wet, an it cooled down pretty quickly. (There was a spot for a votive candle, but they didn't put one in.) No one came to ask "How's the food" after we received it all. And when the server did come to clear plates and he asked if we wanted boxes, we said no. He didn't even notice and just took our plates away -- even though our plates were clearly only 1/4 finished. He just didn't care. Our bill was $72 for a very disappointing evening. read more
