I was told that there are often long waits, so I chose an evening where it was raining with some pretty heavy winds, hoping this would help me and my gf get in quickly. Fortunately, I was right! Dao Madison is located in in the same space that was once Ossino's Market and before that Empire Szechuan. The business is surrounded by a U shaped set of parking spots, but it's tight so go slow and ease into the spots carefully. While the exterior is largely the same as before, it is clear the folks at Dao reworked the interior. It is beautiful with a high ceiling, reserved decor and bright colors. I went during the evening but I can imagine sunlight pouring into the space during the day. We were seated very quickly and there was a huge group at the front waiting for to go orders, so this place definitely has fans! Even on a stormy night almost every table was full. The service was absolutely top notch. Within a minute after being seated we had water, tea and crispy noodles with mustard and duck sauce deployed to the table at rapid speed. I *love* the crispy noodles with duck sauce to this was absolutely delightful. Our waiter was enthusiastic, helpful and full of energy - quite a feat when you're serving table after table. I also have to say, it's incredible how quickly my water was constantly refilled. I never had to ask once. There are a lot of much more expensive restaurants that could learn from these folks! Okay, here's what we had: Chicken Corn Soup One of my favorite soups, but it's hard to find a good version. This was definitely one such example. Smooth, but filled with chicken and egg it was tasty and satisfying. Pro-tip: if you like a bit of a kick, put a bit of the Chinese mustard in and mix it in or alternatively use white pepper (which is on the table). Szechuan Vegetable Dumplings These dumplings are kind of like wontons and served in a beautifully savory and spicy sauce. I would get these again in a heartbeat. Cold Sesame Noodles Almost every take out place around makes cold sesame noodles, but few places make it *well*. Dao knocks this out of the park. Mix it up well and the spicy and savory sauces all come together to form an amazingly delicious dish. Mala Dry Pot (Chicken) This dish is served with a *dramatic* presentation in a small wok in a wood serving tray. This dish has a wonderful mixture of vegetables and meat with a wonderful base sauce. I comes across as a stir fry but I think it may be at least party steamed. This dish was delicious with a big variety of items to enjoy. Also worth nothing, you have a choice between white and *purple* rice at Dao. In general, purple rice is healthier than white rice so it was great to have the option. I am so happy I finally tried Dao Madison and I can't wait for my next visit!

A little bit pricier than Edison but you pay for the fact that you can have it in this area. The filet mignon with spicy pepper sauce was pretty good. Portion size is in the middle. Not too generous nor skimpy. It wasn't spicy. It came with delicious mushrooms and baby bok choy. The black pepper sauce was delicious. Similarly the pepper steak with onions was also mid on portion size and amount of meat they give you. It came with delicious chopped peppers and onions as well. Good flavor. Both of these steak dishes came with a complimentary bowl of rice. The pot of tea was also complimentary. It was pretty good tea. The service was great. Very friendly staff and they changed our plates after the soup dumpling appetizer. Sprite was only $2 and a bottle of san pelligrino $3. Good place with a strong loyal customer base. We were very surprised when we showed up at around 7 pm and sat inside and watched the restaurant fill up on a convenient location on Main Street in Madison. All our dishes were prepared perfectly. All noodle dishes and all curries were prepared to perfection as if we were eating in a restaurant in one of the food street or luxury malls in Bangkok. The servers made sure that we knew how much spice we wanted in our dishes and what we could tolerate and nothing disappointed. The volume was high inside but otherwise, the service and food were perfect. I would definitely consider returning again.

Putting most of them aside, I did like the White Rice and the Noodles which managed to quench the serious cravings I had. Service here was very efficient and friendly plus I got in and out and on my way in no time flat. You'll find plenty of parking available in this large shared lot. And lunch special prices are notably very reasonable at just $10. In this case I don't believe the locals are wrong and in the future I'd return but would definitely order something different.
