Absolutely love this place for takeout! It's really tasty and the prices really cannot be beat for the area. The chicken wing special came with 4 pieces of chicken, and each piece was like a double wing which is extremely generous. This was over a bed of lo mein which had nice subtle flavors. I really enjoyed the pan fried dumplings - the meat was well flavored and the dumpling sauce might be the best I've ever had. The beef chow fun had very fresh flat noodles and vegetables, and also had a nice subtle flavor. I love how simple the flavors are here so that I can truly appreciate the freshness and quality without being overwhelmed by sauce and sodium. I did not expect to find such quality and authenticity in takeout Chinese food but I am glad I did. The Beef Chow Fun (wide noodles) I get here are always super fresh and delicious. Authentic dish to try! I also always get the chicken wings, dumplings, and more recently, the Singapore mai fun. The mai fun had a nice curry flavor, good heat, and smokiness from the wok. Recommend! read more

Me and my son had a chinese craving so we ordered here. Never been before. We shared and it was actually enough for us. We got the chicken lo mein which was sooo good. Not too greasy either, like the right amount of flavor/sauce. Beef with broccoli was also very tasty. They gave a good amount of beef. The broccoli was not soggy at all. Still had great texture. The almond cookies were also tasty. I also felt the price was good since I ordered on Uber eats. Definitely going to order here again. read more

Madison Wok's food has always been ok, with a few bright spots. Vegetables are always very fresh and cooked al dente while meats cooked in the salamander/broiler are very tasty. In general, Chinese food in the Chatham-Madison area is wanting, and Madison Wok is probably the best of the second tier group. Turnaround on delivery is excellent and consistently reliable. This place is horrible. I rarely leave reviews but this is the 3rd time I order from them and its been a disappointment. 1st time ordered general Tsao chicken w/pork fried rice and said no broccoli. So what do they do they substitute with more onions, more sauce and give less chicken. Same happened when I order chicken and broccoli. Today I order pepper steak and not only did it taste bland but take a look at how much onions were in there when I said no peppers. 50% of my plate was onions. Worst Chinese food in this part of New Jersey. You walk in here and it looks like a subway station bathroom. Nothing looks like it's been cleaned in years, and this include food prep areas. Food is either oversalted to the point where you'd think they were drying to dry cure sesame chicken, or just slimy and disgusting. Delivery takes forever. So, I just read all of these reviews before i went to Madison Wok. I have been going there for years and never noticed the "filth" that is talked about here. When I got there, the chairs were on top of the table as the floor had just been washed. It didn't look dirty at all, the inside of the kitchen looked clean. The guy at the desk has a dry sense of humor, but is friendly. The funny part is that this place is ALWAYS busy at lunch and dinner. I see the delivery car all over. Tonight's food was great! The food is pretty much bottom-shelf Chinese take-out. You won't hate it, but getting the same thing from just about anywhere else would be a smart choice. The real problem here is how nasty the store is. Nasty to the point where you wonder how it could ever have gotten that bad. When I picked up my order, I watched as the kid in the back (not wearing gloves, though that by itself isn't necessary bad) leaned meagerly away from a saute pan to sneeze, uncovered, into the air. Loyalty towards a 21-year customer? Not this dive on A TUESDAY NIGHT IN THE WINTER. I am home sick with the flu and ordered soup and chicken fried rice to be delivered. When I attempted to eat the rice a couple of hours later, it tasted awful. It tasted like it had been stored in a basement riddled with mold. It smelled like that, too. I called back the store and complained. I asked if they could deliver a replacement and explained that I could not go there because I was sick. (I live 2 1/2 miles away; certainly not far for a driver who was tipped well the first time to return to in order to make a loyal customer happy. The rude man (who, by the way, does not even say"hello" when he answers the phone; he just says "what is it?") hesitantly agreed to deliver me a new container. Ten minutes later I received a phone call informing me that "the man was very busy" and could not deliver the soup. The GAUL of him. I explained that I order quite frequently and that they will be losing a customer. He didn't seem to care. Do you really think they are "busy" on a Tuesday night? They should be so lucky! Please do NOT order their food. It has always been sub-par but it the only Chinese food in Madison. Not only is Madison Wok nasty, but they also are misers and are unable to appreciate and take care of their customers!! I am outraged and hope you will heed my advice. Small town establishments should treat their customers with the utmost care; we keep them in business! I will never walk into or call this detestable place again! read more

The rating I'm giving is relative. My 4-stars are like how Ebert might have given a Michael Bay movie 4-stars for being good as a summer blockbuster where sh*t goes kaboom. Not 4-stars as compared to Kane or something. I like this place for what it is: cheap Chinese take-out with a specific taste that I haven't been able to find anywhere else close-by. I like very Americanized Chinese food and have never really had any other kind more than once or twice. I almost always get a Gen. Tso's combo with chicken fried rice and I have yet to be disappointed. My favorite restaurant used to be Chen's in New Providence, but then they closed due to the whole bloody, stabby-stab thing. Anyway, I tried a bunch of places close-by including Bean Curd in Chatham, China Fan in N.P., some place in Berkeley Hts. and that one next to the Chatham Library. This place reminded me the most of Chen's taste-wise. Now, the restaurant is definitely gross-looking and had me recalling some dingy hole-in-the-wall places on the Lower East Side of Manhattan the first time I went, but I never eat-in so I don't care. They don't put egg in the fried rice like Chen's did, which I miss, but I've disliked something about every other shop I tried so this is it for me within a 5-10 min. radius. One thing that really sucks besides the décor though is the online ordering. It never works for me. They had a system in place before that was just fine and did away with it for some reason. I preferred ordering that way to make sure what I wanted was explicit, where I could add notes and stuff, but I haven't had any problems since I switched to ordering over the phone. read more

Umm. I love grungy Chinese takeout, but this falls well below my standards. I mean, I'm willing to eat the foods served out of a mobile cart in Taipei in one of the night markets. Yet, Madison Wok frightens me. I think that should give you an idea of the bar I'll set to eat good food and this place doesn't even come close. First, let's just call out the one upside: Location. It's in a shopping plaza that's near my house. OK. Now all the downsides: - This place looks dirty. Like, really dirty. - The guy who runs this place is downright mean. Look, I'm Asian. I've had plenty of Asian people be mean to me. I'm used to grouchy women wheeling dim sum carts shouting at the top of their lungs and staring you down when you stop them with a gruff, "You want it or not?" but this guy just needs an attitude adjustment. - Should rename this place Grease and MSG. Man, eat here and be ready to take a very long nap. - Chinese food, even the American-Chinese variety should be delicate. There's nothing delicate about the food here. It's salty, greasy, hit-you-over-the-head type stuff. No more. Now I've just stopped being lazy and drive somewhere else for my takeout fix. read more

This place isn't as bad as the reviews say. It isn't a great place to sit in and from the look of it it's never been renovated and probably been open since the 80s. But I just look past that because the menu is a little cheaper than the other places around here, and the food is ok. I'd recommend avoiding anything deep fried as the food tends to be pretty greasy, but I've had the chicken/beef/shrimp with broccoli and those types of dishes are always good. The pork fried rice is also possibly the best I've had in the area, though it too is a little greasy. I suspect this place does well with the local colleges, and overall it's decent. We used to eat here about 2-3 times a month and thought the food was pretty good for the most part. Over the last six months or so the food quality seems to have changed and possibly is being prepared differently. Recently I order a General Tso's chicken and found it to be very poor quality. I ate half and threw the rest out. We will be going elsewhere until they improve. read more
