His service was great and he was eventually assisted by another server. -Wife said ribs were really good. -The kids demolished their spaghetti. -My italian beef was.....look, you just can't get a good italian beef around here. But it was okay. -The pizza....sorry, also only okay (V&V is still the best tavern style pizza in this whole area). All that's fine, this place is definitely somewhere you wanna belly up to the bar and watch a game or chill on the patio with friends. THE PROBLEM: On their website and a lot of other "kids eat free" sites, they list Sundays as kids eat free. In this economy, I appreciate that and we'll usually hit these places up. When our check came and we saw the kids meals charged, we asked and were told, "yeah they haven't updated the website in years." I didn't really want to make a big stink out of them still not honoring the deal because my man was having a tough time, so we tipped accordingly and agreed not to go back. A shame because since moving here 5 years ago, we really want to support local businesses and after finally trying Dannys, the food isn't good enough to bring us back. A lot of good value if coming at the right time of course. They also have the required beers and cocktails, to go along with pizza and other Italian-American classics and favorites. Basically it has a bar type of atmosphere. It's got the long bar to sit at along with some tables inside and on a patio. They weren't crowded the last time here thankfully. A pretty basic drink menu with lots of beers. It's about $7 for a basic cocktail. They have a few whiskeys. It's about $18 for a medium pizza. They add a bit for each topping. Go Mondays. Pizzas will be half off. Our pizzas came out crispy. They have typical toppings along with local favorites such as giardiniera. Great stuff as far as pizza along with everything else. I was in town for a dance contest with my daughter and decided this would be a great place to go for dinner. it is close to the performance venue with ample parking. I was surprised how big it is inside. We were there on Saturday night and it wasnt too busy inside. We ended up with a party of 12. I reviewed the menu and saw that the variety of fried veggies looked like a great starter. The price was very reasonable. My friend ordered the epically huge pretzel with cheese sauce. I ordered a large cheese pizza which my daughter and the other dancers wanted. My friend also ordered a large philly cheesesteak pizza. The apps came out fairly quickly and the fried veggie assortment was pretty good. The breading was crunchy. The fried zucchini was awesome as were the mushrooms. it comes with two dipping sauces ranch and tomato sauce. Next was the cheese pizza. It was nice and hot. It is cur in squares which is similar to a place in Indiana called pizza king. They use a lot of cheese and it tasted great. It was pretty good. The crust is dry and thin I call it more like a cracker. The cheesesteak pizza was great too. Had cheese wizz around the perimeter and regular cheese in the middle. Note there is no red sauce on this pizza. Service during the visit was attentive and reasonably fast. I thought the value was excellent. I had written a review for this establishment before but for whatever reason, the review is no longer there. It wasn't a negative or bad review by any means. So, I am not sure why it is not there. But in any case, I have been to Danny's a few times and it was for having their delicious pizzas. On my most recent visit, I had their cheese thin crust pizza and garlic & mushrooms stuffed pizza. I also ordered a side salad and a pint of Hacker Pschorr Weiss. The thin crust pizza was very tasty especially because of the crispy crust. The pizza sauce was good too. The stuffed pizza was perfectly baked. It not only had proper amount sauce but it also had ton of cheese and a good amount of fresh garlic. Each bite of it was flavorful. Both the pizzas were delicious. Danny's has other items on their food menu as well which I haven't tried. They have a good beer selection, especially on tap. They have occasional live bands playing and they have gaming machines as well. I go here with my buddies and we have received good, friendly service in all of our visits. Their pizza pricing is reasonably. The atmosphere is friendly. Check Danny's out, especially for their pizzas. read more

I came to Danny's on Douglas with low expectations after seeing their low reviews, but I was really hoping to be pleasantly surprised. The location is fantastic--right in downtown Elgin, near the casino, with the added bonus of live music and a huge indoor seating area. Unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. We sat ourselves, and it took about 15 minutes before anyone even welcomed us. A lady came by, looking confused, asking if we had been helped or given menus. We told her we hadn't been. She explained that it wasn't her section (it was her first night working there) but said she'd get us water and menus and let our waitress know we needed attention. She was lovely--super prompt with the waters and menus--but sadly, this was the best part of the service. It took another 15 minutes for our actual waitress to come over. By this point, we were hungry, so we gave her our drink and food orders immediately. We ordered a beer, curly fries, and pizza. The fries came out about 20 minutes later and were decent, but the beer never arrived. At that point, we were too frustrated to remind her about it. The pizza came out shortly after. It wasn't bad, but it was overly cheesy for my taste. That said, the cheese pull was great, so if that's your thing, you might enjoy it more. The real letdown was the lack of basic service. We weren't checked on once after our food arrived. No drink refills, no napkins until we signaled for them, and no follow-up until we had to flag her down again for a box and the check. The waitress showed no compassion or sense of urgency, which really rubbed us the wrong way. I won't be coming back. I wanted to give this place a chance and prove the other reviews wrong, but the experience was disappointing. It's a shame because the location and live music setup have so much potential. I have come here with my coworkers a few times during the weekends. We usually order appetizers, a few pizzas and drinks. It is a fun place, there is a live band on some Saturdays. There are lots of tables for a big group. They have a great selection of food and beverages. It does get busy on the weekends. My coworkers and I will probably be back again soon. read more

I would give Danny's zero stars if I could. This restaurant has is extremely poorly run and has terrible customer service. Before my daughter's wedding, I called Danny's twice to speak with the manager about ordering 15 pizzas for a late-night snack at the wedding reception. Each time, the gentleman who answered the phone assured me the manager would call me back, but Katelyn never did. Frustrated, I drove to Danny's and placed the order directly with the manager. When I prepaid for the order and gave her my credit card information, she casually mentioned, "Oh, you're the person who left a message for me a while back." On the night of the wedding, I called the restaurant around 10 PM to find out why the pizzas, promised for delivery to the Haight Reception Hall at 9:45, had not arrived. I was told that "the order wasn't passed to the kitchen" and that the staff was "pretty much gone." A few days later, I called Danny's to better understand what had gone wrong, hoping they could avoid a similar issue with future clients of the Haight. The man I spoke with explained the problem, then laughed about the situation. When I asked him what was so funny, he finally took the call seriously and apologized. I left my phone number and requested that the owner, Jerry, call me to discuss the matter. More than two weeks have passed, and Jerry has yet to call. Either he doesn't care about his customers, or he's completely unaware of the serious customer service and operational issues plaguing his restaurant. read more

This was not a pleasant experience as members of my party had to yell at each other just to be heard. They had a line dance group that was entirely too loud. They could have been toned down and still accomplish their fun. Management seemed to be oblivious to this. They were understaffed with only two people working the front of the house including bar. One was waiting every table in the place. He couldn't hear us or just kept getting our requests wrong. She had curly black hair up in a ponytail. She appeared to be training someone tonight. She was phenomenal. I've passed by this place many times on my way to the gym but never had gone in until today. It's the beginning of December, and it's busy, busy being an understatement. There were only 3 servers for that massive crowd you see in the picture. The ladies working were all kind. Abby, our server, was really sweet, and I could tell she was struggling to keep a float. I don't think the owner should hire a band when being so understaffed. It seems unfair to the staff. That being said, when first arrived, there were barely any people inside the establishment. Cheese was rubber, ZERO flavor...the wings (which we ordered mild sauce) didn't come with sauce. Apparently the mild sauce is "in the breading" the wings were out of a bag from jewel. Danny's would be a 3.5 for me, consistently. This is a pizza place where cheese fans are in heaven. The pizza comes with "extra cheese" as a default, so make sure you order these bad boys well done, otherwise you're in for a sloppy meal! Their sausage has a fantastic recipe and the crust has got a great crisp and flavor. The negatives for me are that due to the glorious amount of cheese, this pizza does not travel or reheat very well. Also, I've yet to find anything else on their menu that I like. But, it's on our rotation and a great option to support local business. In the summer, also, they have great live music and a great outdoor area. read more

We ordered appetizers and pizza and individual meals. The appetizers arrived after our other food. Our waitress seemed to be freezing and perhaps that caused her to never stop by to refill drinks or check in. Items were forgotten from our order and we had to call our waitress over to get the items. Be forewarned that Saturday night has live music, but no consideration is given to it being a relatively small space and no need for amplification. It's busier that day, but pizza seems better that day , so its a good day to come to Danny's. It's a roomy place with game machines which entertain the children.
