Visted Woodfire after a business colleague recommend the restaurant. My wife and another couple made dinner reservations on 1/17/26, for 6 PM. We arrived promptly at 5:50 PM and were told by the hostess that our table would be ready shortly. I will say the restaurant was packed with families enjoying dinner. We were seated at approximately 6:20 PM when multiple tables opened up. While waiting for our table I noticed the various dishes being served to the tables in my viewing area. They smelled amazing and appeared to have very generous portions (leftovers). We were seated and our waitress Dalena M, quickly came to our table for our adult beverage selection. I ordered a Cozy Sweater beer, which was too light of a beer for my liking. Our friends ordered a red glass of wine and a lemon martini. For our appetizers we ordered Grilled Octopus, which was cooked to perfection. For our main entrees, I ordered a Fields of wheat chicken & bacon Ranch pizza & my wife ordered a Margherita pizza. Again, both pizzas were cooked to perfection. I was a bit jealous as I also have a woodfired pizza oven from Italy in my backyard, but unfortunately mine dough never tastes this delicious. For dessert my wife ordered Affogato (which is he go-to dessert) which was delicious. I ordered a coffee and strawberry cheesecake. I just love this restaurant. The restaurant is usually busy but a great vibe and always good service. The drinks and food are excellent! The smokiness of the wood on the pizza crust is delicious. I have had prior experiences here and they have typically been very pleasant. Yet this time was different, and I was left extremely disappointed. I was enjoying my meal, and I heard someone shouting. It ruined my whole mood to see a higher up handle a mistake in such a brash manner. I saw two young ladies getting yelled at, and that toxicity in the work environment left me feeling sorry for anyone who works at this establishment. I still enjoyed my food, and nothing seemed to be going on for these young ladies to get the treatment they were getting. Woodfire nothing is ever that serious to get worked up over! The place had a strong stench of sewer pipes, and the interior was filthy dust-covered blinds, stained carpets, cobwebs, and grime everywhere. I honestly wish we had walked out, but we decided to give it a chance. We started with the calamari and fries, which were actually pretty good and gave me a bit of hope. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. We ordered the vodka pizza and bolognese pasta. The pizza was just okay pepperoni tasted more like cheap bologna. I really like Woodfire's food overall. I have actually eaten there 4 times over the past year. My favorite items are the gluten free sausage pizza (The gluten free crust was recommended by another Yelper, and they did not disappoint!) and the bruschetta (Although I can't eat this anymore - I've learned recently). The only thing that was not the best was the tap water. I think it's a town thing to be honest. Other local resturants have the same problem. So, I hope they can invest in a water filter. After that, they'll be 5 stars for sure. read more

Woodfire Dundee is in the heart of downtown West Dundee with a rustic and cozy aesthetic. The menu has a focus on wood-fire pizzas and homemade pastas. There is free street parking as well as a back parking lot. We started with the Cosmo and one of their vday special cocktails, First Kiss. My Cosmo was perfectly balanced with being fruity, tart, and spirit forward. The First Kiss was a fun, fruity gin drink. I loved the flower garnish and subtle glitter inside. Our appetizer was the Honey Ricotta Toast which came with toasted crostinis and a jar full of whipped ricotta and two honey cubes. The crostinis were oiled or buttered for flavor and the ricotta could have used a bit more honey for how I like it. Our mains were the Vodka Rigatoni and Tagliatelle Bolognese. The noodles were homemade and the sauces also tasted fresh. Pasta entrees can have chicken or shrimp added for an up charge; I was a bit disheartened that I couldn't add sausage as they only offer it on pizzas. Either way, the pastas were the star of the night in taste, size, and appearance. We ended the meal with the Zeppole, Italian dough fried with sauces. They had a nice cinnamon sugar finish with chocolate and caramel sauce drizzled over. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and the service at Woodfire. I felt morally obligated--like I had witnessed a crime and needed to file a report. Absolutely abysmal service. Let's start with the service, which I can only describe as "witness protection level"--because the staff clearly wanted to disappear the second we walked in. Imagine cardboard... but the cardboard is offended you'd compare the two....The pasta was even worse-- be it the visual presentation of canned dog foot or the fact that the Great Value brand of Mac and Cheese has more flavor without the cheese packet... My Sangria was so watered down I'm convinced the bartender whispered "hydrate" into it before handing it to me. I've had tap water with more personality. (I literally watched this dude put water into it)...Not what Jesus meant when he said turn water into wine!!!! Speaking of the bartender... I don't know who trained him, but based on performance level, I'm guessing nobody. My man was mixing drinks like he was auditioning for a role as "confused person #3" in a sitcom. If he made eye contact with the bottles, it was purely accidental. It was like watching someone try to defuse a bomb using only bad vibes. At one point he poured something into my drink that I'm 90% sure wasn't meant for human consumption. I didn't ask questions because I didn't want him to have to think too hard--he already seemed busy battling consciousness. If you're looking for a meal that will leave you confused, disappointed, and questioning your life choices, this is your spot. Husband had the gnocchi pesto added chicken he rated it a 7/10 I had the cheese pizza it was okay could have used more sauce. 5/10 We ordered pick up and when the hostess flipped the screen to sign while paying she clicked 20% tip on it and said I just needed to sign it. That really made me mad, I of course adjusted it to 0 but wonder how many people don't notice. Just wanted to add an updated review since I've been back several times since my initial review. Woodfire is my go to spot when I stay in Dundee (about once a month on average). The dine in experience is excellent. Servers are attentive and hospitable. I can come dressed down or up (I've even celebrated Valentine's Day here with a coworker once ). I had the pleasure of eating lunch at Woodfire on the weekend. I ordered a margherita and a quattro formaggi pizza. All the pizza are 12 inches and cooked in a wood fire oven. The pizzas were ready in less than 10 minutes. These pizzas weren't too bad, the margherita pizza was a little bland and the four different cheeses brought plenty of flavor to the quattro. They both had descent red sauce and plenty of cheese. There was almost too much cheese on the margherita pizza as the mozzarella is not shredded and comes in solid pieces. The crust was flavorful also. These are not the best wood fire oven pizzas but I think Woodfire is serving up some fine pizzas for the area. read more

Stopped by to try it out. The place was busy on a Friday night and had a 25 minute wait. We waited and time went quick got our table for four. The menu has just the right amount of items to offer and very detailed. Our waiter was a bit busy but very nice. Took our drink order and later came to see if we were ready to order. We ordered four pizzas, pepperoni pizza, fig and pig, chicken bacon ranch pizza, and pepperoni giardiniera peppers pizza. The pepperoni pizza and pepperoni with giardiniera pizza were both very delicious and the taste of the crispy pepperoni was so delicious and a very good flavor of pepperoni and the crust was amazing. The chicken bacon ranch was alright for me but my son loved it and remember it has fresh jalapeño peppers.Now for something I never expected to be great was the fig and pig that was so delicious has a bit sweet to it but when you get a piece of the freshly cut meat it delicious.
