This place may have good tasting items, but not opening until 8:30 AM on a Saturday is ridiculous. Not only that, but there's next to nothing in the case when they do open. So we all stand there, waiting for donuts to trickle in, basically anything but cookies which are abundant in case that's what you desire. Theyre probably yesterday's cookies. This place unhinged my butter cake bias for the bakery from my childhood. I will need to get one from each next time I feel like having a "Faturday" event to do a final judging. But this sucker goes toe-to-toe with my memories of Mayfair bakery's delicious, gooey, moist, not -too -cakey dessert du-jour for Philadelphians. My friend brought this to my house for a party, and I was in butter cake heaven upon first bite. Just gooey enough, but with a delicate "crusty" top ( you know what I mean, buttercakers), that thinly veils the delicious, creamy, sweet frosting-like concoction beneath. The best Danishes I have ever eaten. Peach, cherry, lemon, apple - they are all so good. Light and fluffy dough, and so fresh. I dream of the Danish Bakers, it's that good. My grandmother used to take me there 25-30 years ago and it still looks and feels the same. (it's delightfully old school -- they don't take credit cards and they write up your receipt by hand) The danishes come in a dozen or so flavors and have the perfect combination of buttery pastry, fruity filling and sweet-but-not-too-sweet icing. And don't miss the trays of cinnamon buns (any variety). For a true sugar rush, try the petit fours. Just don't go in August, since they're on vacation and closed most of the month. read more

This is a fantastic, family-owned bakery whose pastries are consistently good. We have been buying from Danish Bakers for the past 3 years. Their donuts are excellent, as are the crumb cake, danish, almond croissants, and pound cake! I am very choosy about my baked goods, and they are absolutely one of my favorite bakeries anywhere. I will never go back into this bakery again...on THREE separate visits, I have been disappointed with each time thinking I should give them another chance. They are the bunch of unfriendliest people I've ever met in a place of service. They seem so put off with serving customer. Can we even get a "Hello, how are you" when we walk through your doors? The baked goods are really not good at all, just like several of the other reviews stated, it is dry and hard..not at all fresh like it should be. The worst customer service! Took our money to do a design, we provided a photo and made sure they could do an uncomplicated design before we placed the order. The cake was HORRIBLE looking! I can not believe they would let that go out of the store like that! When I called to complain they really didn't seem to care and said they do not even offer what we were looking for and could not explain why they charged us extra for it and said they could provided the simple design. Also, they did put me on hold so I could hear them talking when the girl gave the phone to their boss and it certainly sounded like they were expecting a phone call about this awful cake. read more

i'm giving them 5 stars for the type of bakery they are, local,fresh, american style with a german essence. they do have wonderful butter cake which is better than the bakery in croydon that everyone talks about. their sticky honey buns are to die for...the coating is a sticky brittle-like crunch that lingers like taffy. sour cream pound cake...jelly rolls and wonderful cinnamon buns. there's not a lot of bakeries out there any more because of the avoidance of carbs but sometimes you just have to let go. the poster who prefers entemanns' ...you must be kidding... read more

It's hard to imagine anyone finding something negative to say about Danish Bakers. I have lived in the area for years and drive by other places to get to the Danish Bakers. In addition to their famous butter cake, their birthday cakes are outstanding. Also, my husband loves the raisin buns because they're the only place that doesn't need to hide the product under a layer of sugar. They're just excellent. There isn't anything I have ever gotten from them that I've been disappointed in and this review is way overdue. I read a review below and was seriously offended by someone's snide remark referring to a worker as "the little girl". I am always impressed that this small business employs young people who are looking to get a start somewhere. They're just nice kids who are learning the ropes. I am always on the lookout for small local businesses that employ young people and provide an excellent product as well. Danish Bakers is definitely one that deserves to continue to do well. read more

I WOULD NOT step foot into this bakery ever again. First off, it looks like a bakery that's not actually a bakery because the selection is pitiful! Are they really there to sell baked goods?! I've gone to this bakery on two occasions because I live in the area. The first time I came in with my son, I was actually excited to take him in there because they had "Best of Philly" sign posted in the storefront. What a scam! Even HOURS before closing time, there was barely anything to choose from, but he spotted a chocolate chip cookie and so I bought him one..just an AVERAGE sized cookie came out to be $1 and some change..not at all worth it!. When I took a bite of his cookie, I can't even say disappointed is the right word to use. I've had better Entemann's cookies than a bakery that has won an award! So that was that and I wasn't back there for awhile for anything else but still decided I wanted to give them another chance and try for their award winning butter cake. I made sure to call the bakery a day in advance to make sure it would be available the next day and the woman on the phone said yes. And so the next morning I came in at about the same time she said the butter cakes would be available. Usually you go into a small place of business, they are happy to have your business and greet you warmly. This was not the case here, every employee in there looked at me as if I had no business being there and didn't even utter a word of hello! As patient as I was trying to be, I stood for a good 10 minutes while one of the girls that worked there clearly saw me standing RIGHT IN FRONT of her at the counter, she completely ignored me and continued to write down on a paper receipt. Are we still living in the caveman era?! Use an electronic register!!! So this place is just TERRIBLE! read more
