I can be a difficult client because I have trouble making decisions and can be blunt, but they took me in stride and made my home beautiful.

My enclosed porch roof had a single leak. I hired Dave at DWD Renovation to do a tear off and…read moreinstall new rubber roofing on the flat portion and new shingles on the sides. After Dave/DWD finished the job, there were other problems and several leaks: 1. Dave/DWD didn't seal the rubber roof seams. I could put my hand right under the membrane. (See pic) 2. Dave/DWD didn't use any insulation. The rubber was installed directly onto the plywood. 3. Because of all the water damage, I now had to replace the interior porch ceiling. When I tore it out, I discovered that Dave/DWD used a thinner plywood for the decking and not the 3/4" specified in my contract. 4. Dave/DWD did not replace all the old roof decking. My contract specified 100% replacement. The difference in thickness between the old and new roof decking formed a roof buckle. (See pic) 5. The roof flashing Dave/DWD installed incorrectly, or not at all, caused water damage to the plaster walls of two of the interior rooms. (See pic) 6. Dave/DWD didn't use braces on their ladders. Instead they leaned the ladders directly onto the gutters which crushed them and the downspouts no longer lined up to drain into the gutters. Dave's guy screwed the downspout to the gutter as a "fix." It didn't work. The rain ran down the side of the house into the foundation. I had to install all new gutters and downspouts on the porch. Most of the problems surfaced after Dave/DWD was paid in full. I hired Dave/DWD because he lives in my neighborhood. I thought that would be an incentive for him to visit the job more frequently and be less likely to do a poor job and rip me off. The last time I saw him in person, I asked him again about my roof. He always agrees to "fix it," but when I ask him if "fix it" means starting over and repairing it correctly like he should have done the first time without breaching my contract, he just shook his head and walked away.

DWD did a gut renovation of our bathroom and a partial reno of our kitchen. While we are delighted…read morewith the final result and the place really looks beautiful, there were quite a few issues with the construction managing that made our review go way down. First, there were 3 separate equipment/fixtures that were wrongly installed and we needed to bring this up to their attention so they would re-install, from the kitchen sink in which the drawers didn't close because the piping wasn't installed correctly to thw microwave that wasn't allowing proper ventilation - all of those are items that were shown in the instructions which I believe weren't read. Secondly, the amount of tile that I was asked to order was 1/2 of the amount that we actually needed! And they told me that I needed to get more the day we ran out, so this caused 1 week delay, around 400$ in shipping fees and we had to extend our lease since wr couldn't move in to the place without the bathroom finished, so one more month worth of rent. Of course none of these expenses, nor part thereof, were deducted from the final fee. Finally, and most importantly, there was an issue with the shower not draining properly. I brought this up to Dave's attention immediately and his reaction was to deny there was a problem for days, saying that the problem was the tile that I chose (as a designer I've used this tile before with no issues so it was just poor craftsmanship) then proceed to tell me that he "didn't get what the big deal is, just squeegee the shower like most people do (??)". Eventually and after lots of pushing and some unpleasant phone calls he agreed to fix the issue, but he had already moved on to other clients and took 2.5 weeks to schedule the work. All in all we are happy with the way the place looks, and Dave was always responsive, but I know as an architect what things are acceptable or not and the shower incident and the way it was handled was definitely not. That being said, he is very fair priced, so if you have a tight budget like we did and are willing to be very much on top of the construction then DWD would be the right place for you!

We got several bids for the project, and Brothers not only gave us the lowest bid, but we also felt the most comfortable with them on a personal level. - as they struck us as very straight-forward, honest and trustworthy. Jim, Eric and their team not only did an incredible job executing our vision, but also brought their own expertise and insight into how to best transform a space. They really have a knack for both the craftsmanship aspect of remodeling as well as a good eye on how to utilize your floor plan. Our basement was half-finished with a mix of concrete, ratty carpet and wood paneled walls. They knocked down a wall, re-did the floors, added drywall, framed a storage room, built a bathroom, added canned lights, put in new windows and additional electrical outlets. What once looked like a rundown area of our townhouse now looks like an upscale hotel suite complete with the beautiful bathroom that they added. They completed all the work on time and on budget, and we couldn't imagine anyone doing a better job. Not having a lot of experience in the world of renovation/remodeling, it was such a relief to deal with honest, hard-working guys who treat you like family and don't try to hose you over. In addition to doing excellent work, they were all nice, respectful and easy to get along with - and we felt 100% comfortable with them going in and out of our place for the better part of a month. One more point I would like to mention is that during the remodel, we had an issue with our furnace. Four Seasons came out and quoted us around $1,000 to fix it. We told the brothers about it, and they said that sounded excessive. Jim and Eric took care of the parts and labor for $300 that same day, and it's been running perfectly since then. If we ever need any more work done to our place, Brothers would be our only choice, and I would happily recommend them to friends, family and anyone who's looking for great work on their house or condo at a fair and honest price.

I hired Greg to build a deck in my backyard after another contractor left the job half-finished and several other contractors refused to take it on. It was not only half-done, but done with the wrong materials, and the biggest headache was that the previous contractor had not dug the holes for the concrete posts deep enough and the city inspector ordered us to disassemble the entire frame, dig deeper holes, and repour the concrete. It was a nightmare of a job, but Greg agreed to take it on at a very reasonable price. He faced major setbacks that could not be predicted (for example, digging deeper holes was much harder than expected because of tree roots and rocks, there were supply issues with materials, etc.). However, Greg took these on without complaining and without charging much more than his estimate. I'm no expert when it comes to construction, and he offered plenty of advice and suggestions when making certain decisions. You can tell he truly cares not only about the quality of his work but also the people he is working with. He is always on time, polite, and takes on challenges without hesitation. I'm absolutely delighted with the quality of the new deck. I'm so glad that I found Greg during what was a very stressful time for me and my family due to the previous contractor, and I would use him again in a heartbeat as well as recommend him to anyone I know.

I gave dave 4 thousand dollars to paint an empty 800 square foot condo with no furniture and he didn't finish painting kitchen or hallways or closet shelves. It was an easy job. But it was a nightmare. I have a list a mile long. The straw that broke the camels back was him doing something simple like putting a rod in my closet to hang my cloths. Well I put my last piece of clothing on rod and the whole closet rods and brackets came out of wall on top of me. He came back after his vacation 1 week later and fixed it then he measured wrong and I couldn't open the drawers from dresser inside of closet that he knew I had to open the drawers. So that being said I couldn't trust Dave installing my cabinets for premier. He can't even hang a closet rod let alone cabinets. Hit or miss kinda a guy. Live and learn. Reviews are for a reason. Next time I will listen. That was a lot of money for me Beware.

I do NOT recommend Ron and his company R-Deco…read more OVERPRICED Ron provides quotes that are extremely overpriced, at about 2x the price of any other company. A recent example was for a siding replacement project where he quoted almost 2x the nearest 3 companies who were all licensed, insured, and bonded (more on that later) and over 2x the lowest priced company who was not. And this was on a project in an HOA that he'd been working on for over a decade, so his bid should have come in the lowest of all because he'd already done the work for numerous other homes/units. UNCOMMUNICATED SCOPE CHANGES For the two projects I received a quote from Ron, both had their scope so drastically modified from what was requested by me that the projects and their prices were incomparable to what was actually needed. On the first project I asked for one door and 1/4 of a window to be recaulked, and he came back with an extremely expensive quote that was actually for caulking basically the entire exterior of my home/unit. On the second project I asked for all the siding to my rooftop penthouse to be replaced and he came back with a quote for just 4 of 12 panels to be replaced, without ever mentioning the scope change, perhaps so he could have me blindly sign the contract thinking I was getting what I wanted at a reasonable price when I would really only get 1/3 of what I asked for. EXCESSIVE DEPOSIT Ron charges a 60% deposit at contract signing and 50% of the remainder a week before the project begins, essentially requiring he is paid 80% of the already 2x overpriced job 1 week before any work even begins. This leaves absolutely no negotiating power to the buyer as Ron has already made all his profit and can just walk away or do a terrible job as he pleases. This kind of deposit is also completely out of line with industry standard, where companies require deposits of 50% or less, not 80%. RELUCTANT TO PROVIDE CREDENTIALS Ron won't provide you with either his license (which he doesn't seem to actually have, later on that), his insurance, or his bond information upfront like any other legitimate contractor. He requires that you sign his contract before he will provide you any of this. That's like someone claiming they're an airplane pilot but requiring you to commit to flying with them and only offering to show you their "credentials" when you're already on the plane and the doors are locked. This is unacceptable and unprofessional. LICENSING NOT FOUND Perhaps the reason Ron doesn't provide his credentials like licensing is that he in fact is NOT licensed, at least certainly not as a roofing contractor per the IDFPR website, though he advertises these services. He also cannot be found in the Chicago contractor database, even though he wanted to perform such General Contractor and/or Electrical license requiring tasks like swapping out an electrical exterior GFCI outlet during my siding project. Apparently he has been working in my HOA for over a decade, with the only reason that I've found so far being that he's the only one that's offered as an option for work by the HOA and Owner's just go with him to avoid the hassle of finding someone else. Of the 5 Owners that I've talked to though, all have negative experiences with him, including for overpricing and bad/not complete work. I will be recommending my HOA never work with Ron and his company R-Deco again and I would recommend you avoid him and his company as well.

George was very responsive, professional, and was flexible in working around tenant's availability and concerns. Their work was very impressive!
