He gave me a complete understanding of Diabetes and was instrumental in the early diagnosis of my prostate cancer. Now, some 20 years later, i still think of him often and the many lessons he taught me in dealing with my diabetes. As I turn 80 years old this next week, there is no doubt I would not have lived this long had it not been for him. The most brilliant of the many endocrinologists I have seen throughout the years to treat my Graves disease.

I had a (rare) mature ganglioneuroma in my neck/upper chest and was referred to Dr. Einhorn to determine if the tumor was hormonally active. Even though I had one symptom that suggested the tumor was active (night sweats), I didn't have any other indicative symptoms. Nevertheless, he handled the conflicting data with great stride and tested me for everything to ensure that I was getting the best possible care. In the end, he determined that the tumor wasn't hormonally active--and he went the extra mile by checking my fertility as well. He even offered to consult me on freezing my eggs in the event that I needed to go in for radiation. During my time with Dr. Einhorn, it was apparent that he wasn't just there to perform a series of tests, but he cared a great deal about my wellbeing and wanted to set me up for the best possible outcome. I highly recommend him to anyone that needs an incredibly adept endocrinologist with a warm and friendly demeanor. He's amazing. read more

I would not go here if you want help with your autoimmune thyroid disease, unless you want to be dosed by TSH only. You only have the choice of Synthetic T4 treatment. It seems he does not keep up with studies. You will also be charged for the 5 minute follow up on your test results as an office visit. If you know nothing about your disease he seems great, but if you have read studies, books written by other doctors, spoken to other like patients that are getting help from other doctors and you want to explore Natural desiccated thyroid or T3 treatment this is not the Doctor for you. read more

I've been going to Dr. Einhorn now a good 2-3 years and once i am in the exam room I am very happy with my care. Kim, his office administrator, is GREAT! And he is very good as well. He'll answer questions and explain things, go over test results, etc. But i am very flustered by the fact when you call the office no one EVER ANSWERS! And trying to get test results can be a challenge at times. I am told they'll come in an email, but i never get them. And trying to CALL to get them is virtually impossible! I believe his staff could be amazing if they were Working under better circumstances... his nurses are very very sweet and the front office is clearly overworked and under a lot of pressure. It was clear, when I called multiple times to get my lab results, his staff spend a lot of time covering for him. ...it's been three weeks and I still haven't gotten them. I have no idea if he is a knowledgeable doctor. In my case I feel that he just didn't want to treat me (I don't have the best insurance). He was REALLY dismissive. First, he said that he was pretty sure I was Perimenopausal and he could probably do nothing for me. He then made another diagnosis by looking at my palms. He told me that my adrenal glands were fine.... ***That same week I went to see another doctor who ordered a CAT scan and found three 3.5 cm masses on my adrenal gland's. ...AND according to my blood work I am nowhere near perimenopause. When it was discovered that I had a 2.4cm tumor in my thyroid, Dr. Einhorn calmly said to me, "Let it be my problem now." Isn't that what every patient should look for in a doctor -- someone who compassionately understands the fear and anxiety and reassures you they're taking care of you? I've just begun treatment at Dr. Einhorn's clinic on the recommendation of a friend of mine who was treated for thyroid cancer by him and I couldn't be happier with the quality of care I'm getting so far. His staff is awesome, too. They do bloodwork and ultrasounds in their office, which I actually find incredibly convenient instead of running all around the city to get things done. I've had to wait a bit in the waiting room before my appointments, but I think that's telling of how Dr. Einhorn and his staff take their time to really hear you out and make sure all your concerns are addressed before dismissing you. Worst experience with a clinician ever. Unprofessional, unkind, arrogant, and pretentious. Dr. Einhorn was recommend by my oncologist, who I have deep respect for. Unfortunately, she was flat wrong about him. He refused to discuss abnormal blood work with me even though it was done by a reputable lab (LabCorp), and he pretended he had no idea how to undertake further diagnostics to evaluate my situation. He criticized my primary-care physician for ordering these labs, which is highly unprofessional. Despite my expressed concern about cancer risk and a genuine plea for his help understanding my situation, Dr. Einhorn continued to claim he didn't know what to do. When I indicated that he'd been recommended by two doctors (one in addition to my oncologist), he lit up and beamed, saying "Well, I am regarded as THE endocrine guy in the Scripps system." So Dr. Einhorn was happy to have his ego stroked, but when I asked for help, all he'd say is "I am not in the habit of reviewing other people's work" and refused to help me. Are you CRAZY? It's SICK to use Yelp to choose your MD! LOL!!!!!!!!! But lucky you, if you are reading this, you just found the best endocrinologist in California. I was referred to Dr. Daniel Einhorn by my regular Doc, who I totally trust. I am very picky about my docs, and I've been choosing the best docs for decades. Dr. Einhorn is a specialist who is highly regarded in his field, which is endocrinology (glands). I love that he is a kind man as well as a wise doc. He's a very good listener, and he looks right at me when I'm talking, instead of staring at his notes. Relying on his lab tests and his office visits with me, he was able to fine-tune my meds so that I'm on an in-between dose which is perfect for my thyroid condition. My lab tests show that my body responds to even slight changes in my dose of thyroid meds. I'm feeling better overall since Dr. Einhorn began overseeing my thyroid treatment. I'm telling you NOT to rely on Yelp in choosing your docs. Some of the Yelp reviews I've seen for docs are full of crap. 0-: But if you are about to choose Dr. Daniel Einhorn over by Scripps hospital, then you are very fortunate. Although expensive, I will say I really like this office. I really appreciate Dr. Einhorn's research mentality, and his treatment approach. He's very chemical, and his treatment has really helped me post sugery. I think he's great, however, his office hours suck! It's 3:00pm on a Friday and they're already closed. They book up quickly and they do blood draws in office, which is kind of inconvenient because you have to schedule an office visit for that, as opposed to going to Lab Corp which is in the same building. They also are closed for lunch which I'm learning is customary for doctor's offices, but inconvenient when you work full-time. read more

I have seen Dr. Einhorn for 14 years. He diagnosed my thyroid cancer and following my surgery and radiation has monitored my care. He is the most articulate, caring and professional doctor. He explains everything and is extremely thorough. His staff is always helpful and I have never had any issues with appointments. Okay for Dr. Einhorn, I'll give 4-5 stars. For his staff, I'll give around 3.5-4 stars. For the wait time in his office, I give a 2-3. I make at appointment at 8:30am, yet he doesn't see me until 9. When he does see me, it's only a 5 minute thing and then I leave. And guess what? That passes the 30 min free parking time just by a little bit so now I have to pay for parking (and they only validate $1off the ticket). Last time I was here, I had to wait 2 hours to see him. Is the office that understaffed or something???? I don't like having to go twice for my copay and a followup appointment to discuss my results. Going twice = paying expensive copays twice. If I'm paying such expensive copays, I'd expect shorter wait times and less scheduling of multiple patients at the same time... read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Einhorn and his office/staff. They have always gone above and beyond when it comes to working around my schedule, accommodating me when I would return for a visit during a school break, putting a rush request on my blood work, and squeezing me in at a different office location in order to fit with my travel plans. Dr. Einhorn has such a lovely bedside manner, which I find to be very rare amongst medical practitioners. He is thorough, attentive, and takes the time to answer your questions and make sure you are getting what you need. He also makes himself available via email if you don't live in the area. Even since moving out of San Diego, I used to fly in from DC each year to see him, and now drive down from LA for my appointments. Huge fan! read more

Hey Dr Einhorn. I moved back to San Diego in dec 2019. It's now June 2020 and I've been trying to get an appointment via Kim, office manager. She drug me along, to no avail, through a Worldwide Pandemic. I was told by Kim they would fetch my records from the archive and follow up. Check your call records to see that Kim failed to follow up. I kept calling for about 6 months and then was told you won't take new patients. When it came time for my appointment with the other doctor she sent me a link which didn't work to a portal that didn't work. I showed up to the appointment on time in person. Kim glared her eyes at me and was scorning me for not getting on the portal, which wasn't working, then she suggested that I was I the wrong, avoiding her responsibility. I literally asked if they were cameras in here so that she could look at herself glaring at me with evil eyes. Having diabetes for 30 plus years and controlling it very well is difficult enough without having medical staff with attitude, meanness, no accountability, and incompetence. My fellow diabetics, move on do not go to this office, you deserve better. Doctor Einhorn please make this right. No diabetic should be made to jump through hoops to get established with your office during a pandemic. This is certainly an ethical shortfall in your office and there are regulatory authorities to oversee these matters to protect the public from this sort of thing. I am continually frustrated by his staff that won't call me back! They tell me I can't get my RX refilled until I can see him but guess what when you call (NEVER DOES ANY HUMAN BEING PICK UP THE PHONE) and then I leave messages but no return calls from anyone. I am looking for some other Thyroid Dr. Who cares if Einhorn and Fink are good Dr's if you have no ACCESS to them. His staff is just pitiful. Being in HR for 18 years I would fire them all! I have been on thyroid medication for about 15 years and haven't seen a doctor for my thyroid in 3 years and felt it was time to get a check up. A close family member had a major medical scare recently, which has turned me into a bit of a hypochondriac. My thyroid doctor retired several months ago and not knowing where to find an Endocrinologist, i turned to Nextdoor.com. About 10 people gave me Endocrinologist referrals, 5 of those referrals were Dr. Einhorn. Not only did my neighbors suggest I see him, but they had so many wonderful things to say about Dr. Einhorn. That day, I called the office and scheduled an appointment. As a new patient, it takes time to get into see a doctor (especially one as loved/popular as Dr. Einhorn). A few days later, I called the office to see if there were any cancellations to get in sooner. I got lucky and someone had just cancelled so I was able to schedule an appointment for the following week. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Einhorn this morning. My experience with him was even better than everything I read about him from my neighbors on Nextdoor. His bedside manner was the best of any doctor I've ever met (and I've met A LOT of doctors as my child has severe asthma and my husband had a major heart attack several months ago). Dr. Einhorn took time explaining things. I didn't feel rushed and felt as though he genuinely cared about me. Dr. Einhorn immediately put my mind at ease as I was worried thinking my thyroid felt a bit swollen. Dr. Einhorn's staff is friendly, upbeat and personable. It was easy to schedule a follow up appointment. Stay away with this doctor. I have been with him for several years and he has completely changed. He is now pretentious and spends hardly any time in our appointments - like maybe 4 mins. More importantly he has changed his mind 100% about my diagnosis and is now trying to cover his tracks and make me feel like I have misunderstood him for several years. Which is not the case. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this doctor. He is cocky and and dismissed all of my concerns, and then shuffled me out the door for another 6 months of feeling miserable. He wouldn't listen to me about the concerns I had about my treatment and refused to even consider that his "plan" of treatment wasn't the best for me. I walked out of my last appointment crying, found another doctor who listened to me, and found out that Dr. Einhorn's treatment (or lack thereof) was making me sicker by the day. First visit was quick, efficient, friendly, and informative. However, in trying to schedule second visit, I was denied scheduling second appointment due to non-payment. For whatever reason, the receptionist looked up my information in their computer system, and told me that I had missed one of the three different payments in the amount of $94.42. However, I was at that same moment holding the file from my first visit, which detailed a copy of the personal check $148 which was stamped by Chase bank as being cashed by "Diabetes & Endocrine Assoc.", posted to my checking account 5/28/15. Today is 8/31/15, literally 3 months after I have confirmed payment. I asked the receptionist what my options were, and she told me that I had to, "speak with my primary care physician who referred me to Dr. Einhorn originally to find a new endocrinologist." Very unprofessional to ignore my simple statement that I had proof of payment, which Dr. Einhorn's office had cashed 3 months earlier. I don't usually take the time to write reviews but I want to help people with high calcium and osteoporosis. Dr Einhorn's ignorance concerning parathyroid disease is INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Because of him I suffered for years until a naturopath dr in the first two minutes of the consultation told me I had an adenoma on my parathyroid that had to be removed. Went to see Dr. Einhorn and he is very professional and treated me with respect. He is very comprehensive and explained the procedure he was going to do thoroughly. He took his time explaining my lab results and my prognosis. My negative feedback is with the receptionist in the front who seems to be more focused on the computer rather than providing great customer service towards the patients coming in. Aside from that, Dr. Einhorn is kind and is very attentive in listening to my complaints. He shows empathy and compassion which is an important quality for any physician practicing in the field. read more

I had a very similar experience to Susie and went to see Dr. Einhorn for my issue. He reassured me everything was on his plate now and that took away from the anxiety I had been experiencing with my health scare. The first time I saw him, I left feeling so grateful I found such a kind and caring specialist. They drew my blood in office and gave me results a few days later via email. Six months later for my check up, I saw him again in office and had an ultrasound by someone who actually could tell me what he was looking at while he was looking at it- not that anxiety you feel when a tech looks over something and you wait for results (not sure if he's a doctor? he was very knowledgeable). He told me my cyst had shrunk and everything looked great. Afterwards I met with Dr. Einhorn who went over the issue in depth and again was reassuring, telling me I didn't need to go back again for another year based on what he saw in the ultrasound. To someone with health anxiety, this made my LIFE! I have been stressing about it since I first discovered this thing. Honestly, seeing Dr. Einhorn was the best thing I did for myself after my GP originally found my cyst. I almost wish I would've seen him first, it would've saved me a year of worry and constant stressing about it. He explained that a lot of GP's aren't too familiar with thyroids and have to take such precautionary measures just in case. I highly recommend Dr. Einhorn and his staff.
