I found Daniel Clark and his sons on Yelp, and the glowing reviews do not lie. We were originally looking for someone to repair and resurface our aging (read: 1970s), cracked stucco so it would have a smoother texture. We also needed someone to paint the entire house, including the eaves, wood windows, trim, and exterior doors. As the project progressed, we also added on removing a window, re-siding the back of our house (a long wall without stucco), installing a new back door, and replacing our old garage door with a brand new one. Through all these changes, Daniel and sons rolled with the punches and delivered an absolutely gorgeous end product. They even consulted on paint colors, and I could not be more satisfied with the results. As a bonus, Daniel and his sons are just the nicest people you'll meet (and you will meet ALL four sons). He deflects and takes 0 accountability** Daniel Clark and his team painted the interior of our house 5 years ago and did an amazing job. They fixed and painted our house to near perfection. We decided to paint the exterior of our house and re-paint some of the interior rooms last month. Without hesitation, we hired Daniel Clark for the job. This is where it all went wrong. My story is too long to tell so I will list some things that I chose not to block out of my memory. I am very well aware that my terrible experience was most likely due to the team of painters we were given (we tried to fire the team but were told these were their best and no one else was available). So if you choose to hire them to paint your house, I truly hope this team doesn't show up at your house. 1. Sloppy work. Absolutely 0 attention to detail. Some examples: painting the baseboards with flat paint instead of semi gloss, painting over obvious rough patches instead of sanding it down before painting, leaving areas unpainted. They would repeatedly tell us they were "done" but would have to go back and re-do the work when we brought it to their attention. Every time they "corrected" their bad paint job, they created another problem. Example: they re-painted our front door bc it looked terrible the initial time they were "done" with it and ended up splattering black paint all over the freshly painted white wall and got it all over our carpet stairs. This cycle was a constant thing and exhausting to say the least. 2. Negligent. Damaged our indoor flooring by using something sharp to cut tape on our floor. There are cut marks all across the flooring. When we brought it to Daniel's attention, he didn't offer to repair or subsidize the cost of repair. When I asked him if he was willing to pay for the cost of repair for the affected areas he replied with a snarky, inappropriate comment something along the lines of yea we aren't going to replace all your floors though. He assumed we were going to make him replace all our floors when we were repeat clients who never gave him any reason to think we were shady? There are paint spots all over our brand new outdoor fence despite telling them to COVER all the exposed areas. Damaged our pavers by pressure washing. They used paint thinner to remove some of the paint stains but just left it smeared on the ground. I decided it would be better for my sanity to pay for the cost of repairing damaged property myself rather than addressing it and going through the cycle again..and again 3. I am only mentioning this bc I think you should know if you decide to book them for your job. The workers were urinating on the street in front of our house. We live on a big, major street with many young families that walk up and down that street. Our security cameras recorded all of it. It's unfortunate that we didn't know about it until the last day of the job. I notified Robert and his response was interesting. He said that because we, as clients, did not request a port a potty the workers don't have anywhere to relieve themselves. The workers were told to use the grocery store bathroom. He also stated that since we didn't open up our house for them to use the bathroom, they didn't have anywhere to urinate. But he'll have a long conversation with them and it won't be taken lightly....? First of all, we were never offered the option to order a port a potty and secondly, the times that we did have the bathroom available for them to use while they were painting the interior, they urinated and defecated ALLL over the bathroom floor and toilet. I had our cleaning lady come and paid extra to deep clean it. There was pee all over the floor and poo all over and dribbling down the toilet. So, I guess they don't care enough about their workers to pay for a port a potty. They knew they were going to be here for 2-3 weeks. 4. I think this point differentiates a mediocre company from an amazing one. Quality control. Although the business owners were on site daily, they clearly weren't there for quality control. Unless we pointed out even the most obvious things that were looked over, problems weren't addressed. That was my biggest complaint throughout this entire process. I work and have young kids. I don't have time every single day to do a walk through, take photos, message, then check if it was done correctly, etc. I hired them bc they claimed to be professional painters. I do my job and they do theirs. I've worked with many, many contractors but this was the most painful one. More painful than child birth. I had several folks come out to give estimates for the job, but it was immediately obvious that Daniel was the one I knew was going to do the job right. We bought an old house with lots of aged brown wood trim, doors and door frames. There were a lot of knots showing in the wood that was painted white, and tons of gaps and cracks in all of the wood ship lap and paneling all over the house. We hired Daniel Clark to fix and paint our living room, dining room, kitchen, and den. Working with Daniel and his sons was refreshing. The painting crew was here every day, exactly on time, and very communicative. Daniel or his sons stopped by the house at least twice a day to check in on progress, communicate updates and ask questions about our preferences. There was never a lapse in expectations vs. result. I knew what was happening and when things would be done at every stage. The painters were also extremely courteous, intelligent, knew their craft. They worked on my house as if it was their own. They took the time and consideration to get things done right. We were in the middle of a few home projects and had some deliveries arrive. The painters didn't need to, but they kindly directed our unexpected construction deliveries to be brought in behind our fence while we weren't home. They always locked up the house properly when we weren't home when they finished for the day. Really great trustworthy crew. We have an historic arts & crafts house (1904), last painted 22 years ago. That's 22 years of being brutally hammered by the California sun, faded, peeling, pleading for love. I'm extremely fussy and know a bit about construction and painting. I needed someone who would restore a landmark to its original glory, detail oriented, could perform minor wood repair (replace shingles, etc.) and a feeling for the aesthetics. I met with a lot of people. Dan and too many sons to count run the business as a family outfit. DC's crew, in our case two guys from Eastern Europe, were meticulous--sharp paint lines and perfectly matched stucco repairs. It was obvious they took pride in their work and finished product. Everything was professionally masked and protected. They were always prompt and finished on time. DC used ultra premium Dunn Edwards paints that I expect to last. I remember thinking the price was high at the time, but given the amount of stucco repair my house needed, it was pretty fair. I remember we had a couple of communication issues about what type of paint to use where that got me a little stressed. But these are the kind of issues that naturally arise in any kind of home improvement or construction context, and everything ultimately worked out. read more

In 2018, we hired Daniel to do the exterior painting for our 2-storey house. Their crew, Joan (Yoan) and Franchesko did such a terrific job that we remember them well and called Daniel first for our entire house's interior painting project this year. To be fair, we also interviewed a few other contractors. Daniel's estimate was not the lowest. However, he came with his son, Robert, walked through every room, observed the condition, and listened patiently to our every concern. They were the ones whom we felt most comfortable and trustworthy. In July, they brought in another awesome team - Pedro (Peter), Andres (Andrew), and Arturo. Meanwhile, Daniel and his sons took turn to check in and understand what materials or tools the crew needed each day. With great communication and arrangement, they bought sufficient and perfect color paint we requested despite the shortage out there. Once again, job well done! He gave me a price and stuck to it, even though there was more stucco repair work than anticipated, and more wood refinishing. I had been wanting to fix my stucco for a long time. I called over a dozen companies and out of those I had three come to my house to give me a quote. Daniel was the best by far and as you can see in the pictures my house looks brand new and restored. The painting was done precisely, dealing with all kinds of complications like getting around vegetation near the house, squeezing into a space between the garage and the neighbors garage, pulling down warped siding and replacing it with new stucco, etc. They offered an excellent price in the initial quote, significantly less expensive than other quotes and compared to past work I had done. As they did the work and we discovered additional things that needed to be done, they were flexible about adding on the items and extending the job. They even ended up replacing and taking care of other things that weren't part of the scope of work.
