Wonderful family park. Huge playground for children. They even have a playground for "challenged" children.

Bought tickets to ride the carousel and when we went to the carousel, it was not in service. Walked right back to turn the tickets and they told us that our only option was to ride the train instead, as there are no refunds. The kiddie train is a sad, sad affair and we absolutely had NO inclination to ride it. After some discussion, we found out that they knew it was out of order, and sold us the tickets anyway. Shysters and swindlers. Definitely won't be back. read more

Love this place! It has a lot of different activities for very reasonable prices. The playground alone keeps my kids busy for an hour or more. There is a lot more to the animal reserve section than I expected. My kids love the gem mining section. All and all a great place to visit. read more

This park was amazing. Our family of three were able to Paddle Boat, ride the carousel, ride the tiny train, feed the ducks, and gem mine for $30. The playground was awesome even the adults got out and played. It was a 20 minute or so drive from Lexington and well worth it! read more

Super cool place to spend the day. We've been there twice now and it wasn't crowded either time. The zoo and Barn and only $1 & .$50 respectively. The lake has a nice path around it. There is a carousel and train that looks inviting. Plenty of places to picnic and camp. Great treasure in Rowan county read more

This may be one of Salisbury's best kept secrets. This park is amazing. It has so much to offer from water activities, nature trails, rids, miniature golf and learning exhibits. Although despite all the things that you can take part in. My favorite thing is the bench that overlooks the lake. It is beautiful and peaceful. This is a must see if you are in the area. Heck just plan to camp and stay overnight! read more

Me and my family love this place ...something for all of our kids ranging from 3-9 along with us ...trains our favorite along with the trails. Can be a bit full at times ...but lots of fun. read more

Beautiful, well cared for park for children of all ages and abilities! There's even wheelchair accessible playground equipment, and plenty of ground level activities for those who are wheelchair bound. I was very impressed with all this park had to offer, and know my son will create many memories here as he grows! read more

This is one of the best campgrounds around. Not only do you have a quiet night sleep but you wake-up to a whole new day at the park.

We took our son there as part of his birthday celebration weekend. I have tried to see what the hype is about but I'm having trouble. First of all, people should not be able to smoke in there. It's ridiculous. There are kids around. After walking through multiple clouds of cigarette smoke My husband and I were just done. The carousel, train, and gem mining are fun but the smoking ruined it for us. Don't get me started on those poor animals in their sad enclosures. Many of the animals paced back and forth and the enclosures looked sad and dirty. The the playground looked like a zoo too. We skipped that. There were people smoking right by the playground too. I realize this is Rowan County and they may not be up with the times but seriously. Something needs to be done about the smoking. We probably won't be back. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! The GEM mining is the best. I could go every day. All the things they have to do there are fun. Great for families. They have paddle boats, huge park for kids, small zoo, splash pad, good food and snacks, and you can camp there. I am a big fan and will continue to go there as often as I can. read more

First time was a blast with the kids however.. The second time the bathrooms were over flowing with raw sewage and I saw an employee come out of the restrooms and go back to his work station. Park is great but how about getting the sanitation down gesh! read more

We have camped at Dan Nicholas for years as we are part of a monthly camping club. It's a nice park with lots to do, however, it would be nice if Rowan County would put money in upgrading their sites to make somewhat level and add gravel so when rains, you are not flooded. They have added more sites, just cut out of the woods, but what they need to do is improve the quality of the sites they have. Very disappointed when camped last weekend to see ruts and ditches and very unlevel sites, the same as 10, 15 years ago. It's such a beautiful park, please update campground. read more

Let me first state that I am a 19 year old and was with an 18 year old, wanting to have some old fashioned fun. This was absolutely a waste of a 40 minute drive. We arrive at the park around 2:30 to find that EVERY exhibit is closed. The exhibits that were supposedly closed, people were in? So my friend and I decided we would walk behind this fence where we saw a woman walking already, (since the whole layout to the park was complicated!) to be yelled at by a park ranger. He told me that the area was closed and it wasn't even 3pm yet. (which was the time supposedly that everything closes at; discovered this upon arrival to the park, not advertised on website?) What bothers me more was the fact that there were a bunch of people down in the area already in the area that was closed and you could hear them screaming and having fun. I asked him what WAS open and he pointed at the gate for me to leave. Rude staff, not helpful at all. The only thing there is to do there when everything closes at 3pm is a lousy playground, and being 19 years old, there's no way I'm doing that. A really complicated layout to the park. It's like a maze. My friend and i swear we walked into like 5 dead ends. The path is not clear at all. The nature center is a joke. It's a little dome filled with tanks holding common fish and snakes. Once I walked into there, the staff looked at me like I was from a different planet. I felt awkward being in there, but that was the only thing open and I had wasted all that gas to go, so I was going to at LEAST go see what was in that nature center. Absolutely disappointed in this trip. I will NOT be returning to your lousy park in the middle of nowhere in Salisbury. This place needs better advertising, as the exhibit hours were not posted on the front page of the website where a guest would immediately find them without clicking 15 links before noticing and wasting all that gas to drive out there and be disappointed!! read more

great place for any gathering or just a day out with the kids plenty to do and not spend an arm and leg doing it .we love it there ive been going since my children were tots and now they are grown and we still love to go lol we have even had meet & greets there for friends off the net and everyone just had a blast ... think everyone should go at least once ...but i know if you make it there once you will keep going back .. read more
