The park offers two baseball fields, a soccer field, a great playground area, and a nice shelter. There is a lot of open green space to use as well. The walking path goes around the entire complex. On a sunny day it's great, but the path floods a bit when it rains. The park was very clean and had conveniently located trash cans throughout. Our first visit was around 5pm so there was tons of shade. We've also been during the middle of the day and the trees still helped out a lot. There are several benches around the playground area so it's easy to relax and keep an eye on your little ones. The playground is equipped for kids of all ages and includes toddler swings. Its learning areas include multiple mazes, sign language boards, letters, shapes, and numbers. The only downfall is the bathrooms. There was no changing station in men's nor women's bathrooms. They were also pretty dirty by the time we got there. For such a family friendly complex, the bathrooms were very disappointing.

My little wanted to go to a museum, so when I found that Morrow Mountain State Park not only had a…read moremuseum but a scenic overlook, I knew we needed to visit. A very quick drive later, we were at the State Park and enjoying all that it had to offer. I appreciate that the roads within the State Park are paved, as the terrain can be steep at times and with the rains we've had, a gravel road would have washed out. The museum is small, but highly informative. I learned so many new things about Stanly County and the types of rocks and minerals found within the county. After the museum, we drove around the State Park, exploring the many camping sites, seeing the Kron house, and ending up at the scenic overlook. There was one hairpin turn that you have to be careful with when meeting oncoming vehicles, but it was a very serene drive. I thought it was awesome they had a "summit snack bar" that was open, although we didn't wander over. The views are breathtaking! Such a great place to visit on a weekend or during the week when time permits.

There are picnic tables, a covered pavillion, disc golf course, public restrooms, with developed parking and its dog friendly. As well, river access for kayaking, fishing and water activities. We took an afternoon drive out to the park and it is definitely worth the effort and time. Legend has it, that Daniel Boone as a boy and his family first used the cave in one manner or another around 1751. There are numerous developed trails with a trailhead at the top. The walk down to the cave is pretty serious, its built wooden steps but its a serious climb down and even more so up. This is the only drawback to visiting the cave. If you are not prepared to climb back up, I didn't count them but its a couple hundred steps easily. I walked the path with coffee in one hand and folded umbrella in the other. The whole place had that clean, quiet Sunday morning smell that only shows up after a steady rain. The lake was calm, the air felt fresh and it was the kind of quick stop that resets your mood before getting back on the road. The park has a picnic shelter and public restroom. The park features a fountain that replicates the figure Rebecca which stood in the Square in downtown Salisbury in the early 1900's. It is open from 8:00am until sunset.
