I am incredibly impressed with Village Park ... and the city of Kannapolis as a whole! My husband and I attended the opening show of their free summer concert series, and we were in awe of how well-maintained this park is, and how organized our entire experience was. We arrived around 5:30 PM to claim our seats on the lawn, and thankfully we were able to find a parking spot right near the pedestrian bridge across the street. The city posted a very detailed map of parking options on their Instagram page ... and the amazing thing is, not only is all of that parking free, but there is a free shuttle that will take folks back and forth to their spots if they are unable to walk that far (or even if they just don't want to!) The openers started at 7 PM, and then the main act started around 8:15 PM. This gave the crowd plenty of time to get situated in their spots, grab some snacks, hit the restrooms, or even ride the carousel! This was a family-friendly outdoor concert, and they did a great job of having food/drink/activities for both kids and adults to enjoy. A glass of wine or a can of beer was just $5 each ... which felt like a steal since I'm used to spending more than double that for the same pour at other concert venues. The show itself was awesome ... we saw The Fray and they were everything we wanted them to be and more. The sound and lighting were both great. The layout of the park allowed many folks to stay in their folding chairs for the majority of the show, and still be able to see what was going on on-stage. I'm more and more impressed with the Kannapolis Parks department after spending some time here at Village Park. This park is clean, very well manicured and ready for action. Yes, much of these things are shut down for the pandemic but there is still a great walking trail that includes a tunnel under the road to skip waiting for traffic. Splash pad, a g-24 scale replica train that is usually open on weekends, a carousel and the Village Park Building that's useful as a 100 seat meeting or event venue. This park is one of my family's favorites! It's a hidden gem that we stumbled upon one day! Not only is it well-kept and beautifully landscaped...it features a mini train which you can ride on, a double-decker carousel, a splash-pad, a snack bar, clean and spacious public bathrooms, a green-way, a huge playground...one for each age-group, picnic tables/shelters, and so much more. This park is so nice and fun to visit with the kids! Just a heads up- the train, the splash-pad, and the carousel all cost $1.50 each per person. You can buy those tickets at the front building near the parking lot at the window. They take cash or card. There is also a gorgeous pond behind the carousel area that is stocked with fish for you to view. There's a large Amphitheatre area in the field where live concerts are sometimes held. Lots of seating areas at tables, and ample parking. When you park your car, you'll notice the park begins on a beautiful, historic cemetery that's enveloped in old trees and flower bushes. Another tip I learned this past year is that every year around Thanksgiving-Christmas time, the park decorates with beautiful and festive lights all throughout! Christmas music plays and the park stays open late, as you can make reservations to ride the train and see the park in all of its festive glory! Normally, you do not need to purchase tickets in advance for the train ride or reserve a time slot, but during the Christmas shenanigans, you will need to! You can do so online or call the number! They also have a food truck or two (different ones each night or so) during the Christmas festivities. You can take a picture with Santa by the Carousel (I believe this costs extra), get a Christmas tree little Debbie cake from the snack bar, toast marshmallows by a fire pit, and even listen/watch the sort of creepy animatronic choir of singing bears inside the building at the front of the park at this time! This is a beautiful park to visit in any season, but you HAVE to check it out during Winter when all of the Christmas fun is happening!!!! read more

We went to Village Park in Kannapolis for the first time Tuesday night before Christmas, and we will plan to be back! It was a chilly night, but we reserved tickets for the train ride around the park to check out the lights display. We all really enjoyed the ride on the train, and the staff were friendly and wearing masks. The ride itself was only 6 minutes, but you go through a very nice display. Tickets are $6 a row with 2 people allotted per row. Since you're reserving your tickets in advance, there is no line or 2 hour wait ala Tanglewood. You can also walk through the park and check out the lights and play on the playgrounds while waiting for your train time. The kids also enjoyed the robotic bear Christmas display, where there's a band playing Christmas songs kinda like you'd see at Chuck E Cheese's. The pond and fountain are also lit up for the holidays, and there is a carousel that is shut down at this time. Looks nice though, so I hope we get the chance when it's warmer to come back and take a ride! read more

There is quite a bit to do at this park. I enjoy the special events held here such as fireworks and free concerts. The trails are also nice for jogs or long walks. There are plenty of family/child-friendly activities such as carousel, train ride, typical park play places, outdoor pool & splash pad. There is an amphitheatre where the concerts are usually held. Best Park Around!! Situated near the YMCA and in amazing Kannapolis, Village Park has everything and I mean EVERYTHING for the family! In the summer months there is a splash of, train and carousel for the little ones, $1.50 per ticket attraction! You can even buy punch cards! Then in the weekends they have movies and concerts- ALL FREE- for the community! The staff are super and so helpful as well! In December, it has the most outstanding Christmas set up and train ride through a cute display of lights! Perfect for the family! They invite local schools to come and sing carols and join in the festivities! Concessions available, including hot coffee, hot chocolate & s'mores! Village Park is nothing short of amazing. Our parks department makes this place a MUST visit for young and old. The playground itself seems nice enough but the real winners are the splash pad and of course the train and double decker carousel. I live close enough that I can hear the train whistle from my house and it makes me smile every time. The driver waves whenever I'm in the park and see it pass! He's awesome! I love the close proximity to downtown, the YMCA, the library and one of my fav ice cream shops. The best part about the park is the EVENTS! Christmas is beautiful but summer comes with free movies and concerts that are not to be missed! My fiancé and I don't have children but we love pulling up lawn chairs and watching Finding Dory just as much as the next person! The FREE concerts this year included appearances from the Charlotte symphony, 38 special and diamond rio - even heavy rain couldn't keep them down! The fireworks are some of the best I've seen viewed from the yard at the park. Take advantage of all this place has to offer - it is AMAZING! read more
