Last time we rented in Ireland with Hertz got a tin can of a car, never again. Dooley's gave us a nearly new Ford, 4 doors with manual transmission. From noon Monday through 8am Saturday was about $260 (plus petrol, returned with full tank). We could have used credit card coverage for insurance, but the price was reasonable enough. We booked online before our trip. Irish car hire companies have been know for sleazy sales tactics but seems like they have cleaned up their act. I would rent from Dooley's again. I would award a 5th star if they did not charge for spouse as additional driver. That would differentiate them from the other Irish car hire companies, and would be good for business.

I was trying to brake down the charges that were being applied to me as the total had over €300 that was not accounted for. I was polite and professional, however this girl got irritated with me, she told me I would have to speak to head office, I asked her for the number and she hung up on me, as the phone was still connected I'm sure I herd her say the word "wanker" to her co worker as she put it down. I called back to understand why this happened but more importantly get the number I needed to follow up on my question. A male person picked up and was immediately hostile to me, i asked why I was called a wanker and he continued to shout at me down the phone, I actually asked him to calm down. I would implore someone to please listen to the recordings of these calls and help me understand why I received this type of customer service from Hertz! I am also a President Circle member, reward loyalty clearly doesn't mean a thing here. Never again.

I don't believe most of the one-star negative reviews here. I believe most of all of them may be fake--gunned up by a competitor wanting to damage this Hertz franchise. Yelp ought to look into some AI screens that could detect the telltale markers of fake reviews. Ivan spot several just from a casual reading. Pay no attention to these.

We rented a vehicle way ahead of time and got a good deal with it. So we thought! When we arrived…read moreat the Hertz rental in Dublin, Ireland airport, we asked for a hybrid vehicle as the price of fuel is $1.78 a liter. The attendant behind the counter was an older gentleman but he mumbled and with a thick Irish accent he was very hard to understand, especially getting off of a 10 hour flight. He mumbled something and gave us the car as to get us out of there super fast. Now we know why. He gave us a plug in hybrid; which has to be plugged in for it to charge and use otherwise you are just running on fuel. Yes the vehicle trickle charges the batteries but not enough to use the hybrid feature. Our trip was planned to drive all the way around the country. We did and the price of fuel alone was crazy. I called the rental company and told them that someone had taken out the charging cable and that I was not able to charge the vehicle. The so called customer service started arguing with me trying to tell me that the vehicle is a hybrid and that it charges on its own. I am from the crazy state where these cars are made. I know the difference between a full electric, to a hybrid to a plug in hybrid to the gas. She continued to argue the point. So that is their tactic, is to argue with the customer while they are on an expensive vacation, so that they hang up. That is exactly what happen, she was no help on confrontational. She should not be in customer service .....or maybe that is exactly why she is there. During the whole trip I tried to call and get someone who knows anything about cars but NOPE! The customer reps I spoke with were the same as the first one. I'm pretty sure the put them in those positions on purpose. There is no way to get a hold of corporate when you are in another country. I called when we got home and sent email because Hertz will not call you back. Their emails are sent out by the same people they have as customer service reps. ONCE THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY, THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO. BEWARE WHEN RENTING FROM HERTZ. BECAUSE THE FINAL BILL HERTZ THE WALLET! I WON'T EVER RENT FROM hurtz ever again, if you heed my warning just as the many others have written, you will go to another rental company!

We rented a GPS through Hertz that was broken-- it would randomly shut down at major intersections, rebooting to a screen that said "Hertz: Never Lost." (Haha- see attached pic) After a few times of this happening, we decided to navigate by physical maps and WiFi service (when we had it), figuring it was fun to explore the old fashioned way. When we returned the car, we pointed out the broken GPS and asked for a refund. We were told to email customer service, which we did, along with pictures of the GPS shutting down while driving. A month later, Hertz customer service emailed us back saying that the unit was not actually faulty (?) and we should have told them about it while we were on the road (we were never near a city, so it would not have been possible to switch out the units on our drive anyway). They did not give us a refund, and borderline called me a liar about the whole deal-- which is way more annoying than having to pay for a broken GPS! Go with another car rental at the Dublin airport. Hertz's equipment and their customer service are broken. The guy at the Hertz desk at the airport when we first got our car was super nice though! That's why 2 Stars- 1 extra for him.

Not sure if this standard but I didn't know about it when I booked. The agent said that they don't know if you're going to drop the insurance or not. True, but if you don't you pay even more. So it sounds like thrifty knows for sure that you're going to pay more than they quote you. 2) they seem to have put my transaction through in USD thus incurring an unfavorable exchange rate because of a 2.75% transaction fee. I realized this after leaving and I didn't want to quibble over $3. But know if you book to insist on getting charged in euros. Had I known about the $30 fee I may very well have still booked because of the convenient location. But I still wasn't happy with it. Seems like a way to make their prices seem disingenuously low online. This was my first time renting in Ireland / Europe. Maybe this is common. But I didn't like it

Went to two other Enterprise locations trying to get help and it was useless! Called the roadside assistance line and the mechanic did not have any parts and could not help us. He did not help with getting a replacement car either. The first day in Ireland was beautiful with no rain. The next day it rained hard and learned the wiper blades were shot and coming apart. So we couldn't see shit for days and it was so DANGEROUS! After driving half a day, I discovered the alignment was off and the car was pulling a little to the left. Didn't think it was a big deal until I noticed the inside of the right front tire was worn bald and metal was showing! Another DANGEROUS problem with this car! Finally after three days of worrying, I found a repair shop in Killarney. The shop owner was so nice and made the repairs: two new tires, an alignment and two new wiper blades. She was able to get Enterprise to reimburse her directly, so I didn't have to pay her. I have not been able to get any compensation for losing half a day waiting repairs or getting a replacement car. I returned the car to the airport location at the end of my trip and again asked for compensation. I was told I would get a call or email from the Dublin manager. I'm home and still nothing! I'm still currently trying to work things out over the phone but people just keep telling me they will call me back! SAD...

We arrived at 5:35pm, 25 minutes before their posted closing time to find the building in full lock down with no signs or instructions. As we were scheduled to leave the city on pre-purchased rail tickets before Enterprise opened the next day, we left the car there and dropped the keys in the door slot. Enterprise took more than a week to close our rental!! We ended up paying for an extra week of rental, insurance, and an extra driver! Enterprise would not work with us at all. I will never use Enterprise again.
