Do not go. My wife and I wanted a couple massage and booked an appointment with Novo Spa on a short notice (maybe now it makes sense why they had an opening). The place was empty. I tend to rate things in my life as top 10 best, not top 10 worst. But this was probably the worst massage I ever had. No kidding. It was a RMT massage with a girl who had zero strength in her fingers not to mention her arms. My wife was also disappointed and said her massage was "ok". The ambiance is OK, they basically removed a divider and wallah you have a couple's room....we did a similar thing at the metropolitan- HIGHLY recommended. When I came to pay I told the girls at the front about my experience. They were so indifferent and merely said that they have more RMT practitioners so maybe next time I should use somebody else. I enjoyed the experience overall, it was definitely relaxing and also very warm - perfect for a winter day. Don't worry about ruining your underwear, they provide disposable underwear for you. Was a nice treat for my wife and I for a midday getaway. I was a little skeptical that it would be as snooty as the rest of Yorkville, but was pleasantly surprised that it was not. Had the Taste of Luxury plus the Champagne, chocolates and rose in the "private" couples suite. Massages, then foot scrubs followed by use of a really cool and high tech couples shower. The champagne and chocolates were served in the attached lounge and in total we were pampered for about 2 hours. I've been to a few spas with my wife, but this was by far the best treatment we've received. I'd give it 5 stars, but about half way through the "spa music" was turned off, I commented about it but nothing was done to get the sound back... small thing, but sometimes it's those little things that make all the difference. read more

This was one of the more forgettable spa experience I had so far. Visiting Toronto and just after my afternoon appoints got canceled I decided to treat myself to a spa afternoon and I called nova since it's very close to the hotel and had last minute openings. I got almost 4 hours of treatments, body scrub, massage and mani pedi. Let's just say for spending close to $500 for an afternoon at the spa I was expected to receives some kind of pampering and royal treatment. The treatments are good but not great since this is not you 5 star resort spa. But I was left alone to fend for myself the entire time. Stumbling around to find the bathroom and the waiting room. After all that when I was left in the waiting room for half hour for my nails to dry with no one to attend to me I got dressed and when to pay at the front. The lady at the counter handed me a bill, charged my card and walked way. Not even asking how i liked my expeience. Not going there again. read more

I went to this spa to use a "spafinder" card I had received. I chose the steam bed therapy treatment - It is an interesting treatment which involves a scrub, mud wrap + steam bed, and aromatherapy/hot stone massage at the end. The scrub was nice, nicely scented products. The steam bed portion of the treatment is the best part - once the mud is applied to your body the "steam" function of the bed you are lying on is turned on, and you are cocooned in a shell so that the warm steam covers you from neck to toe. You then step into an adjoining private shower to rinse off the mud before your massage. The "hot stone" massage was a little disappointing - the stones were actually used very little, unlike other hot stone massages I have had where the whole massage was administered using the stones - during this one, the stones were placed on the back for short periods but most of the massaging was done by hand. Overall, the treatment was nice - I didn't notice any huge difference in my skin afterwards, however. I don't believe I would get it again, unless I had a gift card to take the edge off the price a little again :) The spa itself, is dark, quiet, clean and stylish, but not overly fancy as others have noted. The changerooms are spacious, clean and have small sauna (which I did not use on this visit). For use before/after treatments there is a tea room with loose leaf teas and apples to munch on; and a relaxation room with lounging chairs. I would come back to this spa, if I had another gift card or promotion to lure me in :) read more

I got a full day here as a gift - I wasn't familiar with the name so I was a bit wary. It ended up being amazing. I guess the way they usually do it here is that the same person does all your services. So, a girl named Maria gave me a massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. My mom got a facial and manicure by a different esthetician. They were both absolutely wonderful and did everything possible to make sure we were happy and relaxed. The lounge is really nice, and the tea selection is good too. I was very warm and toasty on a cold December day. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because it isn't quite on par with my favourite, Elmwood. There are no water services, and there are only 4 chaises in each lounge (1 for men, 1 for women), so if its a busy day, I don't know what they'd do. I left here feeling great. I ended up picking some OPI polishes from the current line while I was there. When spas have the current collection out - they get bonus points. I find a lot of them just use the core colours. For just a few dollars more than your run-of-the-mill facial, I got to robe up, hit the aromatherapy sauna, chill in the ladies lounge with some tea and trail mix, then head into 90 minutes of pure bliss. Actually, this would be a 3.5 out of 5 to be accurate, dunno why i can't do half stars. Good things first, The ambiance and lighting really set the mood for a relaxing spa visit to get away from the hustle and bustle. The colour tone being taupe and neutral browns made it more relaxing for me, and I really liked the music. Really serene environment where I just wanted to fall asleep. There was a nice private lounging room with comfortable chaises where I relaxed while I was waiting for the RMT therapist. The RMT therapist (I think her name was Sarah) was good and she knew the right muscles to work on (she gave me an option for a general full body massage, or whether I wanted to work on specific places, and so I told her I had more issues on my back). The only thing was that I would've liked a bit more pressure, but it wasn't so light that it wasn't enjoyable. I still enjoyed it. The not so good things, I was surprised to find that the spa was located on the basement level, which did make it a little claustrophobic because of the lower ceilings, but the decor did make up for most of it. The colour therapy sauna, which I had been looking forward to, was located in the female change room, and it was TINY, and I mean TINY - if two people sat in it together and they didn't know each other, it would be slightly awkward cuz they'd be really close to each other. I suppose they had one in the male change room too, but I wouldn't know, because couples not being able to use the sauna together is a bit of a let down for me. I am really into saunas and steam rooms and this one was a big let down. When checking out, I noticed that they offered daily and weekly promos for different services, and I was a bit annoyed that the front reception didn't tell me or offer me those promos before starting our treatment - it was the very same treatment I was getting, but because I was using a wayspa gc, they couldn't allow me to take advantage of the promo. I guess the fact that they couldn't give me both offers was understandable, but they should've given the option of whether to use the promo they had or to use the wayspa gc. (The cost actually came to around the same, which is why it was okay.) Overall still, it was a good experience based on the quality of the massage, and because of the discount I got via the wayspa promo, it made it more worth it. read more

We were very pleased with the overall experience, our masseuses were very friendly and nice and at the same time professional and did a fantastic job for us both. I have been at Novo yesterday because was the number 1 Spa in Toronto and last week i had a massage at Hyatt (next door)and I love it . Hyatt was rated on Trip advisor number 8 It was my boyfriend birthday . At Novo I purchase the Luxury package for couple massage.The girl at the front was nice and give us all the info we needed . The sauna is so small and was dirty they didn't sweep the floor for a long time.They have no disposable toiletries . The massage was SO BAD just rubbing oil on my back. When I ask her to put a little more pressure she start using her elbow on my back putting pressure on my back bones , no muscle, giving me so much pain . When she was doing the neck she use her fist on my collar bone giving me so much pain and again I stop her The last 10 minutes she start massage my neck until she chock me and I stopped her , she bring me some water because I start...coughing It was a waste of time and money . I came use to use up a SpaFinder gift certificate that a friend had given me. On the SpaFinder website, this place had a 5-star rating, so how could I not? Located in Yorkville, I half expected this place to look a little...posh-er than it did. When I checked in for my appointment, one of the ladies at the front took me on a mini-tour (mini, because the spa itself isn't actually very large at all...) I was surprised to see that the spa looked like a renovated office; all the waiting lounges, the treatment rooms and the room where the tea/treats are located all feel like office meeting rooms, with dimmer lighting and comfier chairs. Nevertheless, appearances aren't everything, right? For me, it was the service that mattered... I checked in half an hour prior to my appointment, as suggested, in order for me to take advantage of the steam room and get ready. Novo Spa provides lockers, robes and flip-flops to use while on premises. I was so looking forward to using the "Aroma Colour Therapy Sauna", which the spa claims is a "combination of sauna, steam and colour therapy", so I was surprised to find that it was a small (read: probably seats 5-6, at best, comfortably) sauna room, with faint aromatherapy scents of lavender and eucalyptus, and Christmas-type lights on the ceiling that changed colour every so often (which I hadn't even noticed initially, because the main light in the room had been left on). As it was a Monday afternoon, I was only one of 3 guests at the spa (that I saw), and the only one in the steam room, which was a nice treat and, I think, made a huge difference in how much I enjoyed it. I also had some time to enjoy the tea in their Tea Lounge (they've got about 4-5 different teas, all different types - black, green, etc... I went with the oolong) and took it into the Ladies Relaxation Lounge while waiting for my appointment. My esthetician, Robin, came in exactly on time to get me for my 45-minute Organic Body Scrub treatment ($80). Robin was really nice, and explained the product and treatment, which I thought was great. I chose the Cranberry Pomegranate Sugar, which Robin warned would be sticky and make me stick to the towels, but I would reap the rewards of softness afterward. I couldn't smell cranberry or pomegranate, but she was right about being sticky. When I got up for the shower, I had to peel myself off the towels! Upon returning from the shower, Robin came back to apply the Organic Watermelon and Papaya Body Butter - the website claims it's a massage, but I would hardly have called it that. It was simply a lengthy lotion application with very little to no pressure whatsoever. At the time, I couldn't recall if it was supposed to be a massage, so I didn't mention it; I wish I had. After the treatment, I had another glass of tea and jumped back into the steam room before leaving. Overall, I enjoyed the experience, although I do think a lot of it had to do with there being almost nobody else there, it was nice to have the place (almost) to myself. No major complaints from me, other than being overpriced (then again, what else should one expect when located in Yorkville?!) , although no raves either. The most important thing for me and this spa is they use my favorite spa products Guinot. I started using Guinot in Ottawa and when I moved to Toronto I found a spa that used it, Nova was it! Aside from that the service, location and amenities have kept me as a customer. They have a nice relaxing room to hang out in prior to your appointment and the Aroma Colour Therapy Sauna is pretty neat. I have only ever had facials there but they are fab and I will definitely continue to go back. read more

Did not enjoy this spa at all. We go for frequent massages around Toronto and will not be back. Booked a couples massage and the shower in the couples room was impossible to use. We spent 5 minutes trying to get it to work and then finally gave up. It ruined the relaxing effect of the massage. Changeroom is tiny. It was thr size of a large closet and nowhere to put anything. One shower despite the fact there were 10 people in there. It is not relaxing to take a shower when there is a lineup waiting for you. Twice my robe was taken away with my glasses and locker key in it. There are only two toilets and people use them to change in because there is no space. So i couldnt even pee. I got dressed and out of there as fast as I could. Didnt even dry my hair. There are so many great spas in Toronto. Dont waste your money here. read more

I purchased a Steam Bed Body Therapy for my mother during christmas time. I asked if the gift card would ever expire, and they told me it didn't. But what they did not tell me was that if the prices at Novo Spa would rise, you would need to pay the difference when you redeemed the gift card. Since this discrepancy was kept silent, I was embarrassed when I found out that after my mom was treated she had to pay for her own gift. My mom had to pay the difference and the tip -which actually was already included in the gift. But for some reason, no one told her that. This was unacceptable for Novo Spa to ask for more money from a service that was already previously bought. At the time of purchase you should have already secured the service. It shouldn't be that I have to pay AGAIN, for the service I had ALREADY bought. This had been the deciding point for me to not return to Novo Spa for their services, even if before I had my own unsatisfied experienced when I got a manicure. I won't be going to Novo Spa again, and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. read more

I get pedicures here because they service is great and the ladies friendly. I love the foot mask step in the pedicure. My pedicures always last a month before they grow out. The selection of teas to go with the service is really nice and the lounge has nice treats and flavored water - always with a different natural flavor infusion. I purchased a gift card for my wife to try out this spa. The gift card was for a x-minutes of massage, OR x-minutes of facial AND manicure pedicure. When making her appointment the facility was unable to provide her the time necessary to get both the facial treatment and mani-pedi at the same time. My wife took the facial treatment, surrendered the gift certificate at the request of the clerk and had her "account" noted. Apparently what the clerk did was to deduct some "value" from her gift certificate as when she returned she was told, on completion of the mani-pedi, that she was responsible for PAYING MORE because the price had gone up.... In addition when my wife explained the gift certificate issue, and being forced to split the visit, she was told by reception that "she could not leave until she paid"!!!!!!!! Holding someone against their will is still illegal in Canada is it not???? Infuriating outcome from what should have been a pleasant relaxing experience. And no apology sent to her after the management had time to review the incident. I remain disgusted. I will ensure everyone I know is aware of this scenario. I am still considering legal action. I had never been to a spa before, but after reading reviews about how great Novo Spa was, I decided to check it out, and got their Lady's Spa Day Package. I was not disappointed, the staff were all very friendly and welcoming, my only disappointment was that I didn't get there early enough to try their sauna. The changerooms were clean and well-equipped with nice extras like hand lotion and hair dryers, with complimentary snacks and water helping to keep your energy up while you waited for your next treatment. Since I got the Lady's Spa Day package, I was also provided with lunch after my massage and facial, follwed by a manicure and pedicure afterwards. I left feeling more refreshed and energized than ever before, I can't wait to go back again, and I'll definitely be recommending this place to anyone who needs some quality relaxing time! I've been to NovoSpa a few years ago, and decided to go again in October. On my recent visit, I can say that NovoSpa is still consistent in their professionalism and quality. I went for a Guinot facial and it was excellent. I've never gone when Novo was very busy (I'm not sure if they make sure to plan appointments that way) so you don't feel rushed or cramped in their changerooms. They offer cucumber diffused water and a trail mix while you wait as well as complimentary tea for after your treatment. The esthetician was very thorough in applying products and was informative but not pushy. If you're looking for a place that is focused on relaxation, uses quality products and provides great service than I would definitely recommend Novo Spa read more

Unfortunately the spa doesn't seem to like men or be the least bit man friendly, which is surprising considering this is probably the fastest growing niche in their industry. I usually never write reviews, but after my experience at Novo Spa I felt inclined to sign up and share my experience with others. I booked a couples massage this past week for a Sunday afternoon. The receptionist confirmed my appointment and advised me that she would need my credit card number to book the appointment - which I gave to her. My husband and I got to the spa the day of and were informed that our information was not in the system, that we had no appointment booked and that they could not accomodate us at that time because they were fully booked. Needless to say I was quite upset and concerned that someone there had my credit card number. I would never ever go back to this spa. I have never experienced such unprofessional behaviour and frankly do not have the time for it. Spare yourself the hassle and go to Stillwater or Elmwood. read more

I've gone to Novo Spa lots of times in the past 6 months or so (it's close to my workplace so convenient), but I'm finally done with this place. No more chances! First time I went was for a full leg and bikini wax - I assumed because it's so expensive, that they would be using top-of-the-range waxes (important because I have very sensitive skin). My skin was extremely tender afterwards and when I got home, I noticed a massive bruise on my upper thigh! I called to complain and was asked to return the next day to show the manager the damage. They gave me a full refund so I decided to go back for a series of Guinot facials with Charlotte - they are amazing and she is the best staff member they have, pure gold! However, those facials are so expensive that I've had to stop getting them. Seeing as Novo Spa had regained my confidence via wonderful Charlotte, I went back again last week for a mani/pedi. It was on "special" with Beautilicious on Bloor (still a whopping $75 before tax). It took 2 and a half hours ... is it just me or is that an extraordinarily long time for a mani/pedi? There was also an issue with payment - when I called to book I said I wanted a French mani/pedi and they said no problem, but it'd be $10 more, which I agreed to, but then on the day, when I'd already started my treatment, a staff member came in to tell me in front of 2 therapists and another client that I couldn't get a French mani and pedi on the special offer and we had to discuss it in front of everyone, which was really embarrassing ... even though I'd booked it that way and it was supposed to be just $10 more ... long story short, they ended up charging me $20 more than the advertised price. After only 2 days, cracks started to appear in my polish and now after only 4 days it looks so bad that I'm tempted to remove it. It is without doubt the worst mani/pedi I've ever had. I've had $20 manicures without all the unnecessary pazzazz which have lasted close to 2 weeks. Novo Spa, I've spent a lot of money on you but I will not ever be back again! Ciao! read more

I frequently get my nails done and have been to many spas around the city. I am confident to say that this was the best manicure I have ever received... many people have complimented my nails and have asked me where I got them done! I was amazed at the cleanliness and serenity of the entire facility as well as the friendliness and skill of the whole staff. Also amazed at the great price. I paid about $200USD with tip for my services and found that to be much cheaper than the nearby Stillwater Spa at the Park Hyatt. I would definitely return for another spa treatment! read more

I don't recommend sending someone here as a gift. I enjoyed the services, the massage, facial and manicures were lovely. The massage therapist (Karen) was particularly great. However, my husband bought the gift online- no gift card ever arrived either by mail or email- I waited over a month before booking- hoping that one would arrive. Eventually I called to book my appointment- the receptionist divulged the price of the gift which was very indiscreet. When I arrived the price came up again and I was asked to produce the gift card. When I left I was asked to pay for half of the expense even though the entire amount had already been paid by my husband. Today I had my second facial in Novo Spa. I am totally wordless. The natural fruit products they used smelled so good I had to stop myself on tasting them. The therapist was extremely gentle and took so much care of me that I almost fall asleep. Actually I think I did. My face has never being so clean and soft. Services were also wonderful.
