Here I come to join the throngs of those exclaiming how good the swordfish piccata is at Dalesandro's. For our 21st anniversary, my husband and I decided to give Dalesandro's a run after hearing great things for years. The menu is limited, however, and I believe this about many restaurants, this limited menu allows them to do those things very well. I'd take a limited menu of stellar meals any day over a Cheesecake Factory of mostly crappy choices. We loved the small, intimate feel of the space. He had the lasagna and I had the swordfish, it was perfectly spot on. I asked for extra mushrooms on my piccata and they definitely accommodated my request. The capers were some of the best salty, briney capers! My husband cleared his plate, only scooting a couple of mushrooms to the side (he didn't notice they were on the menu in the lasagna, and no real way to order them without, so no big deal at all!) As far as service; unfortunately, we've had much better elsewhere. It wasn't the worst we've had, but definitely not up to par for this level of dining. I ordered a glass of wine and my husband ordered a Diet Coke. The waitress brought mine and said she would be right back with his. For the next 15 min or so, she seemed to actively avoid our table, working the other side of the room, never even glancing our way so I could catch her attention. I did finally get her and she retrieved his drink. We noticed there seemed to be a lot of what we assume to be regulars that were being very well attended to, and we would have appreciated the same attention as new guests. Three for dinner. We had Oliva Olio with mushrooms, Caesar salad with chicken, and pesto with mushrooms. Some, if not the best Italian food I've ever had. Perfectly flavored. The Caesar with chicken was amazing. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the dressing was awesome. The service was awesome. We were consistently being taken care of. Our drinks were always refreshed before being finished. We ate outside, seated at 8:00pm. Perfect night, nice atmosphere. Before your visit, I highly recommend making a reservation, especially if you plan to go on a weekend evening! reservations are made on their web site, and they call you to confirm. I made a reservation for my party, and they were so accommodating to my requests. They have been good about keeping their high top tables & booths physically distant too. We started out with some wine and had the carpaccio for starters. We loved the carpaccio - its flavors were simple yet delicious. Highly recommend. Next, we both ordered the linguine. I was excited to try the meatballs but I would probably order something else next time. The dish was pretty big and came with 2 meatballs. I wasn't a big fan of the tomato sauce; it had a watery consistency and didn't stick to the pasta well. The fresh tomatoes in the sauce were pretty though. I also really enjoyed the flavors of the meatballs, but they were very dry, which left us slightly dissatisfied. We weren't too amazed by our meal, but we enjoyed it still, and the service was great. The atmosphere felt like a family-owned Italian restaurant, and generally it was pretty loud in there. They do offer outdoor seating and I think I would do that next time when the weather is nice! read more

What a delight it was. Our family of five enjoyed this experience so much. We wanted a low stress dinner and our waitress accommodated perfectly, never rushing us to place orders and giving us the opportunity to set the pace for the meal. We enjoyed appetizers and wine. Don't pass on the carpaccio! We talked and laughed and caught up. We then placed orders for our meals. Ordered more wine, and chatted some more. Our meals arrived and while the shells were decent, they lacked flavor. The pesto was consistent with expectations. The carbonara was voted the most decadent (hands down divine - order this!!) and the pollo arrosto did not disappoint. Highly recommend this sweet intimate space when craving a relaxing Italian meal. Sitting there I wondered, why do people have reservations to this place? They must have great food...and if not the food...great service...and if not the service...a great atmosphere. But looking for all of these while we waited for our server I soon realized maybe it's not what I think. When the hostess sat us down she said our server will be with us. The server never came but served the table that came in after us. The host defaulted to serving us. We came right when they opened so they were still getting things ready for dinner service. When we first sat down, we were out at a dirty table. The cloth had crumbs on it. Requesting to be move, we went to a cleaner table. When we ordered our food it came out hot but not as fresh as we have had before at other Italian restaurants that claim authenticity. I ordered the pasta shells with sausage and cheese basked in a rich red sauce. The shells did not taste fresh or made from scratch l. Usually fresh pasta is not as compacted as manufactured pasta. It breaks easy and usually has a buttery consistency as it melts in your mouth. However you could tell that the sauce was made from scratch. It was light and not acidic. The pasta shells overpowered the meal and was an unwelcome party. The house bread was also subpar as it was cold and not reminiscent of Italian bread. Finally the music did not compliment the Italian family environment the owners projected. Pop country doesn't add tot he Italian feel. It was confusing. read more

6:00 reservation is the way to go..Beautiful and bright, and before the dinner rush. Our neighbor raved about Delasandro's Swordfish Piccata...so RSVP was in place on a Friday evening. We ordered the Brodo soup...which my hubby liked since his new Dr.'s regime requires him to be on a bland diet. I have to say - he chose right. The soup for me is bland. The portion is large enough to share as an appetizer for 2 people. I ordered the Carbonara...delicious. I like to add some pizzazz to some of my meals by squeezing a slice of lemon on top of it...it made it more Yumtastic! This is the 2nd time that I've been here, it's a nice ambiance and they have a huge bar so it's nice to hop in for maybe a caprese salad & a glass of wine. I went with a group of 5. The table got the "table Caesar" which is not prepared at the table. They just brought out all the bowls of salad. We all complained about the huge pieces of lettuce. I like the non traditional Caser dressing but it got mixed reviews from the group. It's more vinegrette and very garlicky. My husband got the swordfish since so many people raves about it. He did really enjoy it. My friend got the Oliva Olio & my other friend got the carbonara. The Oliva had little flavor and not very much of a basil taste. The carbonara was ok but my friend only got 1 single slice of tomato which seemed kind of cheap. I got the linguine, the sauce was delicious I just didn't like the meatballs. They put fennel in them and I'm not a fennel fan. And they only have me 2 medium sized meatballs. We've been meaning to eat there, quite frankly, since young Dalesandro was in school @ Cascia Hall w/ our son. Early, as usual, we popped by slightly before their opening hour of 6:00. The hostess seemed a tad flummoxed by our arrival, but graciously seated us immediately wherever we wanted in the empty restaurant. It's a very pleasant smallish room with an uptown, neighborhood feel. In warmer weather I'd love to try their patio. Our waitress, Amy, & her follower, Rachael came along soon. Amy couldn't have been more knowledgeable about the menu & wine list. Both of which, IMHO, are pretty small. We chose to pass up appetizers & salads, knowing the entrées would be quite enough. But I was starving & Amy provided a basket of bread tout de suite! The slices of lovely fresh bread were huge, however, I take a dim view of butter in foil packets. As I unwrapped a couple, hubby requested olive oil. Amy returned w/ a nice bowl of balsamic & oil infused with many herbs. Quite good. Our entrees arrived piping hot. The carbonara for hubby & lasagne for me. Amy had warned their "red" sauce was pretty spicy. I loved it! Loads of peppers, ricotta, mushrooms, sausage, tomatoes, onions & fluffy noodles. But mine also had something (see pix please) rather hard in it; like woody asparagus. The carbonara was bacony with peas, mushrooms, basil & pancetta in cream sauce, topped w/ sliced Roma tomatoes & Romano. Hubby loved it. My bite was quite good! I love food that stays hot. Pasta so often doesn't. But theirs did! We didn't have the Caesar, but the way people have described it here does not sound like an actual Caesar. Regardless, it would be hard to beat the Caesar salad as presented by the Celebrity Club. But Dalesandro's must be doing something right based on their longevity & continually packed house. I wish I had the option of zero stars! My husband and I were looking forward to a nice dinner and heard great things about this place. After biking, we stopped in and we're immediately prejudged by our waitress, she sat down 2 waters, never introduced herself and just walked away. When she came back to our table to ask for drinks, I asked her name. Jessica then walked to the front hostess stand, turned her back to us and said something to make the two host staff turn around to look at us. Jessica, I'm not sure what your problem was with us, but just so you know, my husband and I combined have been in the restaurant business for 40 years, you would have received a fabulous tip with the easiest customers. I have been to dalesandros a couple of times. It is right down the street from my house but is a bit pricey for my budget. Frankly I have never really loved anything I've ordered there . but I think that's probably because I've never ordered the lasagna. This time I got the Oliva Olio. That was nice and not so heavy. It's angel hair pasta with garlic and Parmesan and the amazing mushrooms that they have there. I don't even like most mushrooms but those mushrooms are amazing. The food was overall good, nothing that impressed me or really stood out. I have had better Italian (Mondos). We got the lasagna and the roasted chicken and angel hair pasta. The lasagna was good (hubby finished it all), but I thought the roasted chicken was better. It wasn't dry, and the red sauce that came with the pasta made it even better. Overall, I wouldn't really make an effort to come just because of the food. For the price, it was just alright to me. I would come back just because it's convenient and close to where we live. 3 things my mom and I know, from our admittedly limited experience: The "grilled chicken" I had added to the Caesar salad was boiled tough, and the salad as a whole had a fishy taste to it. I've been lucky enough to get to visit Italy, and I would choose the food here over anything I had there hands down. Yuh. It's that good. Don't skip the Caesar salad. It's perfectly crisp and fresh with shredded parmesan. If they sold the dressing, I'd buy several gallons at a time! This with the complimentary bread is the perfect way to start a meal here. I've never had something I didn't love for an entree, but I fell head over heels for the carbanera pasta recently. Portion sizes are big; share with a friend. My half of the pasta filled me up so well. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the sauce was creamy but not heavy at all - just perfect. Atmosphere here can't be beat. 1 star should not be given and I do not do it lightly. The food is good but the attitude is one that thinks the customer is doing them a favor by doing business with them. I simply wanted to make a take out order on a Friday evening. I was informed they would NOT take the order over the phone, I had to come to the restaurant and go to the bar- then I could place my order. I asked a second time to be clear and they were adamant. We ate elsewhere and will continue to do so. The only reason I can think for such a policy is to try to drive drink sales or they are afraid of orders not being picked up. The first reason is understandable but overbearing on the customer. The second could easily be addressed by taking a credit card if it presents such a great risk; a risk I doubt because I have not had such treatment from numerous other restaurants in town.
