    Garlic Naan
    Madeline J.

I've been here several times in the past few years and it never disappoints. Lately I've been getting the shrimp biryani with garlic naan. Very large portion and the raita it comes with is delicious. Today I tried the samosas as well, which were amazing. The sauces it came with went well with them and were a nice addition to the biryani. My only complaint would be that the garlic naan only comes with one naan cut in half per order. Most other places I've been have at least 2 per order. Other than that I have no complaints. The food comes out fast and the service is great.

Food is usually amazing. Couldn't eat this as it's open, plastic take out bag not tied. Just weird vibes

Mini Thali Chicken Curry Mango Lassi
    Sheryl M.

Dakshin is the only place to get South Indian food on campus which I really appreciate and go there often when I miss that food. The mango lassi and chicken curry is really good and the mini thali is good for having a few sides and comes with gulab jamun and a naan/chapati option. I usually get mini thali with chicken curry and sambar or daal. Food doesn't take long and there is a kiosk for ordering. There's also indoor seating. There is a general sign about allergy information saying the food may have these ingredients but there is no information about specific dishes. Otherwise, I would reccomend!

    Chicken Tikka Masala

It's unreal how much I crave their food. The chicken tikka masala is so good that my mouth waters just thinking about it. I always go for an order of naan to help soak up that delicious sauce. Nothing I've ever ordered from here is bad, but it helps to know your limits when it comes to spice. I'm a wimp so I stay on the low side.

Chicken 65 Biryani and Mini Thali

Restaurant is small but nicely decorated, service is nice and will help you with any questions or anything you need. The food comes out very quickly (never waited more than 5 min) and has great portion sizes. My boyfriend and I love to get the mini thali (a plate with basmati rice, 3 different curries, and 1 gulab jamun) and chicken 65 biryani and share both. Chicken 65 birayni is a large portion and I can get 3 lunches out of it. Chicken 65 birayni from Dakshin is the best i've ever had, the chicken 65 has the most flavor and it not dry, the rice is seasoned perfectly too. The raita is light and has good flavor too. The mini thali has many options to choose from, any of the chicken curry, paneers, or dal are amazing. Naan is amazing along with the rice. Gulab jamun is perfect treat too. Love this place, a staple for us.

The BEST gobi manchurian, certified by my gobi-addict cousin.

When I used to visit LaLa in 2012-2016, making trips from IU to see my best friend, we never got Indian food. That was mostly because we knew the best Indian food was made in our houses, but also because there wasn't anything great to try. When I visited my cousin, an undergraduate at Purdue, last fall, I was surprised to see that she wanted to go to Dakshin. After all, there was so much on campus now, and I'd just brought her a truckload of Indian goodies from home! Not to mention that Purdue is supposed to have some of the best dining hall food in the country. But away we went, to grab her gobi manchurian, and after a few bites I saw why - it's undeniably spicy, evoking the level of spice you get with dishes in India. The place is also canteen-like in nature: customer service is a non-parameter, and the food speaks for itself. I took my parents a few months later during a visit and they stuck to their typical North Indian orders (despite Dakshin offering South Indian food): chole bhatura for dad, parotta-kurma for mom, and chili paneer for me. All three lived up, with my father even buying extras for later in the week! When an Indian dad willingly pays for extra Indian food to take to a household where cooking is a daily occurrence, you know you have a win on your hands.

Food was cold, service was awful. Owners kids were running around the dining hall and kitchen while coughing. Will not be returning there.

It wasn't that good at all. I tried a variety of things. Taste of India across the street is x10 better.

I also love supporting spots like this--it's locally owned by a Hamilton County family, which makes it even better Everything is made fresh daily using authentic cooking methods, and you can truly taste it in every bite. I started with the jalapeño paneer appetizer--creamy, spicy, crispy... honestly addictive. We had the lamb vindaloo and the butter chicken--bold, rich, and perfectly balanced. The vindaloo brought the heat in the best way, and the butter chicken was smooth, comforting, and full of flavor. I love that the menu pulls inspiration from all over India, with tons of options (including vegan), and everything comes out hot and fresh. They're open Tuesday-Sunday 10:30 AM-10 PM with a lunch buffet, full menu, and full bar. For lunch they offer a buffet and for dinners, there is an a la carte menu. I'm not usually a buffet kind of diner, but I made an exception to try the food. The benefit of the buffet is that you get to sample many different options. The dining room is upscale, immaculate and comfortable with beautiful murals on the walls. A interesting mural of downtown Indy is over the bar. (BTW, they have a full bar). TV monitors played Bollywood and other colorful Indian shows. The hosted is welcoming and super friendly and tells you to go straight to the buffet, while she gets water. The $15 buffet is separated in to vegetarian options, meat options and salads. I tried a number of my Indian favorites including Chicken Masala, Butter Chicken, Vegetable Curry, Aloo (potato) Pakoda, Assorted Vegetables and salad (romaine) with assorted dressings. I also tried the Rice Curd. My favorite was the Butter Chicken and Aloo Padoka. The food was a perfect spicy for me. It was slightly spicy hot, but not unbearable. The hostess also brought us out servings of warm butter naan. She checked on us several times and encouraged us to try some desert, which we had missed. The balls of Gulab Jamun were sweet and delicious. I was glad she sent us back! Munzul, the owner, stopped by our table and introduced himself. He is friendly and sought honest feedback. He is eager to please his new clientele. There seems to be plenty of parking in the tiny strip mall lot. The building is accessible.
