I am no judge of indian food . So keep that in mind . We went on a Saturday and were surprised to find they had a buffet . The place wasn't that full but the people eating were of Indian descent which I think was a good sign . We were seated promptly and asked frequently if we needed anything . I can't tell you what I picked but everything was clearly labeled including a warning if the dish was very spicy. They had a selection of add on things like a yogurt sauce and hot peppers cucumbers etc . If you like Indian food or want an easy way to find out if you do this is a good place to try . read more

Delicious food. Went in to order take out and saw there was a buffet. So wish I would have known that before I had called on the phone. It looked so yummy and delicious and was really large. My fault totally. Anyways, we ordered naan, chicken tikka masala and lamb biryani and samosas. The samosas were deliciously crispy and fried and came with two sauces. A mint and plum sauce. So good. Why did we wait so long to try Sharma's Kitchen? The restaurant is very much the product of a chef who is passionate about Indian cuisine. Everything we had was fresh, very tasty, with great presentation. The service is also great. Attentive and personable without being invasive. It is with a heavy heart that I write this review of Sharma's Kitchen. We ate there on 11 May for lunch. We had been looking forward to eating their lunch buffet for months. Pre-COVID, it was the best Indian food we had eaten with lovely service and a broad selection of entrees; I would have given them 5 stars!! At this visit, we were appalled at the poor condition of the restaurant, the carpet was filthy. They had stiff cardstock taped to the floor to cover holes in the carpet. We overlooked this because the food had always been quite good. The meal on 11 May was pathetic. The food that was to be warm was tepid at best. These included the chana masala, vegetable biryani, tandoori chicken and baigan bharta. The mango mousse (supposed to be chilled - it contained cream) was room temperature. I have grave concerns about the food safety. Neither of us experienced ill-effects, fortunately. To top it off, the buffet was $20.00 per person - YIKES! The selection was limited. Sadly, this will be our last time at Sharma's Kitchen. read more

When you walk in Sharma's Kitchen you are warmly greeted by the owner. The food around us smelled so good! I had to ask what the table next to us was eating so I could order it too! I went for dinner last night. As usual, the food was good, but the owner's wife's attitude was not. the buffet had a decent selection. I was not asked once how the food was or if I needed anything. She walked by once and said "are you still eating?" After I had talked with the table for maybe 10 minutes. Once at the counter she said that the couple bites I left on the plate was food waste and I'd be charged an extra $5. I guess I could have gone back to the table and scarfed down the last two bites to save my $5 but I decided to put my dignity over that. If the owner is that worried about food waste, rather than charging $5 and being condescending, offer a to-go box and I would've gladly eaten my two additional bites at home, regardless of a $5 charge. I have eaten here probably 7 times in the last 3 years and each time the owner's wife's attitude is so off-putting I debate not eating there again. They would be better off hiring a Purdue student to cover the podium and greeting customers. the convenience of being the only Indian restaurant in Lafayette does not outweigh feeling unwelcome from the second you walk in the door. If you have not been here before and are thinking about trying them, don't come. Simple as that. Go to Dakshin or Taste of India in west Lafayette. I have never had a bad experience at either of those restaurants. Also, the men's restroom looks similar to what you would find in a Circle K gas station. Some drywall mud and paint would go a long way sprucing up the bathroom. All in all.. I spent $54.46 for two buffets, water, and a $5 food waste charge. I would've been better off spending 35-40 dollars at Dakshin or Taste of India and still had better service, leftover food, and saved money. read more

I've been dying to try this place!! The food is very good. Everything is so flavorful. I LOVED the garlic naan. The ambiance is a little strange. I feel like it's too plain and there was no music playing so you can literally hear everyone's conversation. I also wish there were other dessert items. Something lighter would have been good because they were all too sweet. Overall, everything was delicious but definitely on the heavy side. All Indian buffets are not alike and for South Asian Americans like myself, we are often baffled at the lack of variety at the standard buffet. Punjabi food, while delicious, is hardly representative of a country as diverse as India; we often cringe when the standard non-Indian heaps praise on "that red chicken" or "the green sauce with cheese" because we know that neither Tandoori chicken or palak paneer are representative of India. So, you can imagine my surprise when my dad and I were astonished by the dinner selection at Sharma's. As a Purdue alumnus ('02), I was always sad that the Indian food food wasn't so great when I was in school, so I am only slightly envious that Purdue students now have this great restaurant (tucked away as it is on a strip mall on Sagamore Parkway). What makes a good Indian buffet? At the very least, it needs to be representative of as much of the different kinds of regional Indian cuisines as possible. Sharma's meets that criteria much better than most with a variety of dishes that are comforting for desis and intriguing for others. I don't remember I have ever seen pani puri at an Indian buffet, and certainly not one that was near sambar vadai, gobi manchurian, aloo tikki, and other foods. Then there was the splendid variety of vegetarian dishes (mostly North Indian); I counted eight! Then four to five chicken and goat curries, and THREE desserts (rasmalai, gulab jamun, and kheer). Oh, and did I mention that Sharma's gives you a choice among three types of naan? I went with the spicy naan, but I am sure the others are delicious. read more

On a foreign land for people who learn about India through such experiences won't be a proud thing to remember India by. I was part of a group of four that at at Sharma's last night. We were all very satisfied with the quantity (it's a buffet), wide selection and overall food quality. The also have Indian beer and some wine selections available. The shrimp special was spicy but very good, too. Be sure to ask for the garlic naan bread. Loved Sharma's kitchen from the very first time we came. It has become a staple takeout place for me and my husband. We go probably once a month. Everything we've had so far is delicious. We mostly get meat/veg curries but I really want to try the Indo Chinese portion of the menu. They always give complimentary fruit salad and I love it. It reminds me of fruit salad my dad makes at home--creamy and made with simple canned fruit. Would highly recommend the malai kafta for people who've been eating lots of chicken tikka masala and want to try something new. It's fabulous and I'm definitely going to get it again! My husband is the one who goes in to pick up our orders and from what I've heard the owners are very friendly and seem to have developed relationships with their regulars. We did have one dish that was kind of sweet? Can't remember which but we did not expect it/like it. That's literally my only complaint. This was our first time at an Indian restaurant. We made a few dishes, Butter Chicken, Tikka Masala & Naan at home during Covid, but never had the official real deal. First off, we felt very welcome there from the moment we walked in. I explained to the lady who took care of us (I believe one of the owners) we were first timers and she was very helpful. We ordered 2 grilled items and she sent out a Tikka Masala for us to try. By doing so she corrected our mistake of ordering 2 similar dishes, giving us something with a different flavor and texture. It's more of an order different things and share place, but we did not realize that. Generous portions, we brought a ton of food home, and we're NOT disappointed about that at all. She recommended we get the Garlic Naan to go with our dinner and we loved it SO MUCH we ordered one to go. One of the best restaurants in the area. I can't recommend it more! The vegan options are especially fantastic.

I hear about this place from a friend and decided to try it for take out while Indiana is under a stay-at-home order. They did a great job of establishing social distancing standing spots and the hostess was wearing a mask, which was great to see! I got the chicken tikka masala and it was very tasty. I do wish it was a little spicier/more seasoned but the chicken was tender and there was plenty of sauce for the rice. It was a huge serving and I had more than enough to eat for lunch the next day. The veggie samosas were big and delicious. Though a hint on the dry side, the two different sauces they provided did well to hydrate them a little more and the overall result was really good. Finally, it was really cute that they included a small dessert for free! I was happy with my takeout experience here and would come again. I'm happy to see they are keeping their employees and customers safe with the proper social distancing and sanitation procedures. read more

I'll admit: I don't like buffets. I'm kind of grossed out by them, simply because it feels like that episode of the Simpsons where Homer decides to conquer the seafood restaurant. That said, the other Indian restaurant I went to has been having a change of ownership for the past multiple months, and I need a new source for naan and mutter paneer. Spouse and I went on a Saturday afternoon, and were a bit saddened to see that they only do buffet during the afternoon. But, on the up side, the buffet had a lot more food on it than most buffets I've seen. Several bread options (including garlic naan to die for), and although there wasn't mutter paneer, there was basically the same thing except without the peas. And it was delicious. It all went in my face, and I had to roll myself out. Yummers. Spouse was equally impressed and declared that we now have a solid option, and we'll have to come back at dinnertime. The other Indian place I go to is closer to work, so assuming it's good when it reopens, I'll probably keep going there most often simply out of convenience. I was hungry for Indian. And once again Yelp reviewers guided me well. The dinner buffet is yes pricy but you get what you pay for. I counted 5 meat dishes 6 or 8 vegetarian dishes. There were 6 or so appetizers station and 3 desserts to choose from. They bring you a choice of chicken kabobs or what I believe are veggie kabobs and a choice of naan bread. I always go for garlic. I can't help myself. I tried the goat curry it was good, the lamb curry also good. Loved the, well I forgot what they called it but it tastes similar to butter chicken. They have something made with paneer that was a little sweet and spiced with ... nutmeg? No but it was SO good. The sagg paneer was also good. Did I adore everything no. This wonderful new Indian restaurant featuring authentic Indian cuisine just opened October 10th. The food is fantastic! It is owned and operated by the chef, Satinder Sharma and his wife. They are very gracious hosts. There are buffets for lunch and dinner, with many dishes, all delicious. I particularly liked a palak (cheese) dish, the chicken vindaloo, one with egg plant, and another with chickpeas. The garlic tandoori chicken was wonderful. Nan is served with the meal. We drank tea masala and water. The tea was excellent. Fresh watermelon was nice way to finish the meal. There is a beautiful menu with many choices if one chooses not to go with the buffet. Vegetarians will also find many choices. The restaurant is bright and cheerful with attractive Indian artwork and decor. A statue of Lakshmi (Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity (both material and spiritual), light, wisdom, fortune, fertility, generosity, courage and the embodiment of beauty, grace and charm), presented to Mr. Sharma by his friends on the restaurant's opening, presides over the dessert table. Sharma's Kitchen is easy to find. It is located on Sagamore Parkway where the Bombay restaurant once was. They do close from about 2pm until 4pm between meals, so you might call for exact hours. I've eaten there twice since they opened, and plan to visit again with friends this week. We have a lot of Indian restaurants in Lafayette, but Sharma's Kitchen is my new favorite. Amazing food! The buffet is a little pricey, so my husband and I mainly try to eat here for special occasions, but I am always looking for a reason to eat at Sharma's! We have been eating here frequently for the past several years and It's our go to place for birthdays, holidays, and special treats! We typically visit during the week for lunch, but sometimes go for dinner. The food is consistently wonderful, the naan is always warm and delicious, the waitstaff is always friendly and works hard to make our meal enjoyable. The chef seems to take great pride in his food and everything I have tasted is top notch. My only recommendation might be to add some music for ambience. I am not an expert on Indian food by any means, but have frequented Indian restaurants in several other states ( Cali, florida, georgia) and Sharma's remains my favorite!
