We had a large array and while other people in my party did enjoy the food, I was very underwhelmed. I was excited for the green onion pancakes but they were extremely greasy and chewy with little taste. The spring rolls and egg rolls were ok, but nothing special. The crab Rangoon was terribly chewy. General Tso chicken was ok, again nothing special. Garlic pork was actually pretty good but on the whole I don't eat pork so I limited myself to a bite. I also don't eat lamb but did try the Mongolian lamb and I thought it was soft and not super flavorful but other people at my table raved about it. It's a joy to actually see a Chinese restaurant that serves Mandarin style food. As you may or may not know, Mandarin food is hot and so if you not into this, I would ask for mild and favorable on these dishes. Or, ask for a tiny bit of spice intro the food. I understand that some dishes need to have the peppers or hot flavor to bring out the taste of the dish. I would spend time and ask the server what choices are good based on your personal flavors and Chinese dishes that you had at other restaurants. There a lot of choice and they can help narrow it down. The only thing I would say is the prices are higher than usual and so expect to pay more when you visit. The food is good tasting and we will come back when we visit our daughter at school nearby. read more

Huge menu superseded by beautiful decor. Each table feels private and is also set up for hot pot. The service is good (they all have tablets now) but the food here range from excellent to mediocre. We got a mix of the quality with 2 out of 8 dishes being subpar. But the other dished were fantastic. our guest who took us was completely surprised by the excellent quality of the food. Sat and waited for over an hour and never got our full order served. We had to serve our own utensils and the only thing we were served was our small plate of dim sum. It was frozen tasting and cold. Our first time back to this location. Brand new restaurant and no more grocery store. Try the spicy beef and chicken dishes. They are fantastic--especially during those long Indiana winters. We started with the Mr. and Mrs Smith chewy beef appetizer and then moved on to the Chef Szechuan Chili Beef and the crispy friend chicken with chilis. All were great dishes. Some dishes are crazy bland, which is weird from an authentic Chinese place. And they often get orders slightly wrong - say ordering ginger spinach and receiving a very spicy version instead or getting an entirely wrong order. This used to be the old CT Market, which used to have a restaurant quietly tucked in the back, but I'm guessing they didn't want to compete with the New World Market right across the street, so there's an entire restaurant here instead now. Went here with a friend who doesn't speak Chinese and we got the Peking Duck meal set, Szechuan Wontons, and Snow Pea Leaves. The Peking Duck meal set costs around $40 and comes with either a soup option or a stir-fried option for the excess meat of the duck that doesn't go into the actual Peking Duck. I would say this is among the best Peking Duck I've had in the Midwest, including the likes of Chicago's Lao Sze Chuan, and easily the best in the Lafayette area (much better than the nearby Peppercorn Kitchen and Szechuan Garden). The presentation is wonderful, the meat is rich but thin, and the skin is nice and crispy. The garnishes and sauce are flavorful without being too strong. We got the soup option, which was also nice and hearty, but not quite as spectacular as the main event. The Szechuan Wontons were also some of the best dumplings I've had in a while, with a subtle sweet and peppercorn flavor; my friend was also especially impressed with the dumplings. There are two potential downsides that I can see someone experiencing here. First, the items are pricey, especially after the mandatory 18% service charge. I think the food quality was very "authentic" and worth the price for the dishes that we ordered and I had the fortune of being able to communicate with the staff in their native language. Unlike a lot of places with foreign staff, they were pretty cheerful and polite and provided decent service. However, this also brings me to my second potential concern. They clearly preferred to converse in their native language, which was somewhat exclusive to my non-speaking friend, so I'm not sure what experience an entire group of non-speakers would have. read more

Taste, located in the old CT Market building, is a restaurant we've quickly become regulars at. It's a very spacious location that they've renovated, and it looks very modern and open inside now. There are two options when it comes to Taste - hot pot or just regular food. We have yet to try hot pot, but I will update my review when we do. The regular menu is fantastic, however. We've tried many dishes here, including a lot of the dumplings, mapo tofu, fried rice, various beef and chicken dishes, and more. I can definitely say my favorite is the beef with scallions; absolutely delicious. The beef is tender, and I love onions/scallions, so it's a homerun for me. The dishes come with rice upon request, and I definitely recommend it. Some of the dishes are definitely on the spicy side, so make sure to ask about that if it's a concern. Service here can be a on the longer side at times, but for the most part, our food has arrived on time. Service staff is very friendly. The prices are reasonable, but just be aware that they charge an 18% service charge at dinner, so make sure to note that. (Though if you tip regularly like myself, this shouldn't be a big deal, as it takes the place of the tip.) Overall, definitely give it a try! read more

Food was decent but the service was extremely chaotic and the atmosphere of the place is confusing, the menu cryptic if you don't speak Chinese. We ordered something described as "Pork Garlic Bolt" in the menu, yet on the check we got after 3 seconds it showed up as "Twice cooked pork with green peppers". We asked our server about this but she said it's the same thing. I still don't quite believe that, but even if it is true, why does the same dish appear on the menu more than once? Also, the dish we ordered was not supposed to be spicy, but what we got was covered in red and green chillis. We were also served by 3 different people who all had to look at the check on our table multiple times to figure out what part of our order was still missing. Despite that, all three dishes we ordered were served separately, the rice to go with them only came after we reminded them about that and the Appetizer arrived dead last, when we were already pretty much done with the mains. I usually don't mind patchy service all that much, because after all if I'm not happy with it I can always give a slightly lower tip than usual. But here, an 18% tip is automatically included in the bill. I hate that because it leads to terrible service. The place itself is very posh but there was very loud pop music in the background, which was a bit strange. The menu is very extensive but it doesn't really describe the dishes, it contains items like "Beef - 12.95". All of this is a shame because the food itself was not bad. read more

The waiters sat us down with our menus and then they went to the front desk and started chatting with one another. We ordered 6 dishes. After the dishes came, we asked for one dish to be taken back and remade as it was wayyy too salty. But there was no difference and it seemed as though they didn't even make a new dish. The service was definitely not worth a 18% tip. Worst experience. I invited a professor and a friend for graduation lunch in my apartment. Ordered a food delivery at 11: 30ish, it said estimated arriving time is 12: 47. We waited until 1: 30, there was no response at all. I called the costumer service of the food delivery app, but no response either in 10 min. So I just called the restaurant directly, and I was told I need to wait another 40 mins. What kinds of delivery takes 2 hours and 40 mins? I was very angry, then she said she'll prioritize mine, but it still needs 30 mins. After the call, the customer service of the app told me that the restaurant just inform them a dish is not available. What kind of restaurant inform customer the unavailability after 2 hours? Not to mention I called to urge them. I have no idea how long it would take if I didn't call. Will that be just delivered as a dinner? I felt very awkward to keep my professor and friend, and we were very starving caz we all got up early to attend the graduation ceremony. I also scheduled a graduation dinner in a high-end restaurant at 6: 30. Just because the poor service of Taste, my schedule was totally messed up.
