Amazing, authentic HK style barbecued meats. And affordable too! Two meals off Uber came to $23.28. The weird thing is that you are required to do a $1 add-on for a soft drink? So factor in an additional $1 for their rice combos. We tried the duck and the siu yuk. The crispy siu yuk skin was perfect! And the duck was very flavourful. I particularly loved the duck sauce that came with the duck combo and drenched my rice with it! Excited to order more from this place in the future!

    Cantonese Roast Meats!

Siu mei (烧味) is a Cantonese term for roasted meats on spits over an open wood fire or large burning oven that can usually be found a Montreal Chinatown restaurant window, made to take-out as is or offered as a complete meal in a box, with the meats and laid on top of white rice with some veggies. Traditional dishes such as roast duck, roast pork, crispy pork belly tend to be coated with a marinade, usually honey or maltose sugar, before being fully cooked, that provides different flavor profiles and diversity of textures make it exciting to eat! A friend of mine @shutupandeat recommended another spot @dakhingbbq located in Côte-des-Neiges, where the excellent roast master takes pride to prepare food in a way they would serve to their own children, parents and family... well let me tell you, the following glistening dishes quickly found their way to our home and then promptly into our bellies! Char siu (叉烧): fundamentally pork pork loin, belly, or shoulder, distinguished by its signature dark red hue, is marinated in a mixture of honey, five-spice powder, red fermented bean curd, dark soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sometimes rice wine. The name refers to the cooking method where char means fork in Cantonese, and siu means to burn or roast. Siu yuk (烧肉) or crispy roasted pork, after being seasoned, the entire pig is roasted in a furnace at high temperature, which leaves a crispy skin with a gorgeous golden hue and a juicy, tender meat. The key to this dish is the skin, which is poked with tiny holes, to allow the crackling to happen, and covered with coarse salt before the meat is roasted. Siu ngaap (烧鸭) or roasted duck is first soaked in marinade of star anise, peppercorns, green shallots, ginger, cassia buds, cloves, and salt. The exterior is rubbed with a vinegar and maltose sugar coating, to gives its signature sweet taste. The bird is then pumped with air, poached, and then finally roasted at high temperature to allow the skin to be slightly crispy, while the meat remains tender and juicy. There are many more items on the menu to try and well 'tis the season to give, so I will drop some off to our friends and family - hope you do to!

Two meat plate with pickled vegetables

I've been intending to try Dak Hing Barbecue for a while now so when I saw this as a recent review of the day, I knew it was a sign! This is a Door Dash, Covid-19 delivery review of this restaurant. They offer a simple menu on Door Dash, but usually that means they're specialized in a group of dishes. I was not disappointed when I ordered the 2-meat barbecue plate. At $13.99, it was a bit expensive but is reasonable (considering these third party delivery apps charge extra on restaurants). It was full of delicious, perfectly cooked roast pork and barbecue duck. The meats were super tender and flavourful, and honestly it's enough to feed at least two people for lunch. We also ordered a side of pickled veggies (Daikon radish and carrot), to add a bit of freshness to our meal. The delivery arrived fairly quickly and the food was also pretty warm when it arrived. Overall, I can't wait to go into the actual restaurant to pick up a meal there! I also noticed on their menu, but you can order whole roasted pigs which is awesome for large parties!

So... after reading so many good reviews on this place, I have decided that for my first 2021 meals, this is the place I needed to get my food from. Today, January 1st 2021, I hoped in my car, drove 45 minutes and ordered way too much food for my husband and I. It was for lunchtime. They were barely into their first out of opening that they sold nearly all the roasted pork. Not to worry, another one was on the way. They had a long table full of orders waiting to be picked up. It was non stop! Ok ordered a whole bbq duck, a 2 meats (char siu and Chinese sausage) lunch combo, some roasted pork and two sticky rice. EVERYTHING was very good! The pork crackling was crunchy and the duck is so juicy! The only con that I would put out is that I had a lot of solid pieces of fat with the roasted pork order. Service is great! They are super nice! So 4.75 stars is what I am giving this place.

Located in the heart of Old Port, this small joint offers a simple menu of bbq meats and sides. There is only beef ribs, porc ribs, pulled pork, brisket and smoked chicken, served with your choice of mac and cheese, coleslaw and baked beans. There are no appetizers and no deserts - however there is a cocktail and drinks menu. I do find it odd that the food menu is not posted on the website, nor on their social media. I saw some outdated photos of the menu other customers posted. The only place to see a physical menu is on the outside of the restaurant itself, otherwise once seated, there is nothing printed and the server will be the one to talk through the options. My partner and I opted for the beef ribs (there is an extra $7 for this option), pork ribs and smoked chicken. The meats were all very tender but lacked flavor - as if there was not enough seasoning or sauce. We had sides of mac and cheese and coleslaw. The food was very good, but not amazing and expensive for around $40 a person to start with plus the surchage for beef ribs. Cocktails were around $17. Very pricy dinner, for this, I expected larger portions. I found the Texas bbq experience to be lacking despite the website claiming this is Texas style. They surely do not serve American sized portions. I am a slim female with a healthy appetite and was disappointed in the lack of food, especially for the sides. There are maybe 3 or 4 bites of coleslaw or mac and cheese in each serving, yet these are the cheapest foods I don't understand why they couldn't be more generous. The time it took to prepare the food and serve us was also puzzling. We arrived when the restaurant just opened and were among the first to order yet waited probably a good half hour or more before our food arrived. The meats are all cooked in advance and I suspect the sides were as well - as we overheard a server mentioning the food is smoked in St-Eustache which is North, outside the island of Montreal. There are no smokers on site at this restaurant. I am glad I tried this place as there is a shortage of good BBQ within Montreal - however due to the portion size, slow service, price and location I would not come back. Unfortunately there is no parking nearby so be ready to pay upwards of $25-$30 for a paid parking lot, or take public transit if you can.

I thought I had pre-booked a reservation, and we were running late. Parking in this area can be a trick. I dropped my wife off and continued to locate parking. She contacted me and said there was no reservation. I panicked as I parked my truck and sifted through my emails for a confirmation. I hustled the 0.4 miles back to her. When I went in the hostess said it wouldn't be a problem and brought us to a table. My wife later told me she was offered tea while she waited. The waiter was on spot. He knew their menu and provided us with his insights. All the food was Devine. Beautifully laid out and brought out each course in the perfect time. My wife loved the hibachi, she doesn't eat much in general and I do most of the cooking at home. She couldn't get enough of putting items in the hibachi and moving them around. Guess I need a hibachi at home lol. Also my wife is 86 pounds, so she gets cold easy. The hibachi was the perfect personal heater too!! We had a great time together. The ambiance had that perfect Japanese appeal, while still modern. I used to live in Japan so I can be skeptical when it comes to Japanese flair & food. This establishment did not disappoint. So if you are in Montreal, I highly recommend giving this place a go. Side note, pricing is very reasonable considering what is included in packages. And the Saki I had was delicious and looking it up for the going rate they make around $5 per bottle based on what they sell it for and market retail price (place around the corner up charges 110%). So you are more than getting what you pay for in my opinion. And sometimes you just cannot put a price on excellent service! We will definitely be returning when we venture. To Montreal again.

The spring rolls taste like the frozen veggie ones from Asian supermarkets. The salad and rice were also nothing special. However, the for value it's not bad. We got the premium set for 2, which was $120 (tax & tip included). For anyone that's not a big eater, it's a good alternative to gyubee. Service was very attentive although the kitchen was quite slow. Our appetizers came 1 hour after our meats arrived, which was a bit strange. Ambiance is a bit cold since the tables are so close to the doors, so we constantly felt a gust of cold air during our visit.

No more wonderful steak Philly on the Friday. Most of what was offered on that daily menu is permanently gone. They added many different poutine that actually existed before but part of a secret menu you could learn from their social network page. Some starter too. They change the recipe of some of the food. The Mac N cheese is now more creamier and the cheese is more present and flavourful. I never had it by itself, but in the poutine Mac TeX, it's a miss for me. It used to be the poutine I always take when I go there, poutine Mac TeX. Tried it 4 times already since the switch, always the same and I don't like it unfortunately. Maybe others don't. From the post they made on Instagram stating that it was now creamier due to popular demand, I guess that's how people like it. But I think people was taking it by itself and not into a poutine (I never see much people eating a mac te when I'm there). Also the new Mac N cheese on the Mac TeX make it you taste nothing except the creamy liquid cheese from the Mac N cheese, nothing else. I normally add the homemade steak sauce available on the table in the poutine and when I tried it with the new recipe, it wasn't good. I also trie the dirty Poutine. I totally forgot what it is. There's like 2 sauce, I think it's meat sauce? Sorry I really forget. It was good, but about half way through, I was done with the taste just like the current Mac TeX. I still finished it though. Again, it's not bad, everyone has different taste and I started by liking it. I had the same experience when eating the smashburger poutine after eating a smash burger. Don't do it, take either one, not both unless your really into the taste of smashburger cause that's the only thing you taste. Last time I went, I took again the smashburger double cheese and bacon, a must for me, and I took a regular poutine. First time in what, 2 years and at least 30 visit that I take the regular one. It was good. I do miss my og Mac TeX but it's a good replacement. The bonus is it cost about 10$ less and fill less, so I was able to take something off the desert menu for the first time. I toon the chocolate cake and it was very good. The service is always good when I go there. It might be a bit a miss when it's overbooked specially if your table is hidden In a corner (happened a bit in the past). The only reason I bring from 5 to 4 stars is only because I prefered the old menu and old recipe. I did talk to a staff last time about the Mac TeX recipe and was told sometime it's because of new chef. I guess he wasn't aware that the recipe actually change, he did seemed new since I hadn't seen him before. I'll talk to jack or one of the owner last time, not to bad mouth, simply to have feedback from customer on the menu.
