We had an Hr to kill before dinner so we went into Daiso. Lots of cheap stuff from Japan, most of it $1.50, but there are signs if it's higher. I got 2 Silicone Hair Catch for the shower. A pink one & a blue one. Suppose to stop hair from going down the drain & you can lift up the thing & shake out the hair into the garbage. It did catch the hair, I just used tissue to remove the hairs from the thing instead. Minimum to use credit cards $5 - good thing I had cash for my $3.26 purchase. read more

I loved this place! The store was huge and had a bunch of knickknacks from a variety of asian snacks to tea strainers. The price is also amazing since basically everything is only $1.50 unless marked otherwise. I stocked up on the asian snacks since on domestic flights, they don't provide you with any food/snacks. I made the mistake on my flight to San Francisco of not bringing any snacks with me so I was starving by the time I landed. I love Daiso. Those in California don't know how lucky they are. I live in the Midwest now so whenever I go back to California I always have a list of things I need to buy from Daiso. $1.50 for almost anything in the store is a price you can't beat. This Daiso location has a lot but when its busy, there really isn't much room to walk around in between the aisles. One of the things I needed to buy was a toothpick dispenser which this store didnt have! I was shocked. I've noticed that Daiso products come and go so make sure to buy what you like then and there because it might not be there tomorrow. Parking in this area sucks. There's some metered street parking but sometimes its hard to come by. I ended up buying some ceramic items and the lady advised me that there was paper at the end of the registers where I could wrap my paid items. What a nice surprise! Make sure to bring your own bag when you come here otherwise they charge 20 cents a bag! read more

I always stop by Daiso, when I am in Japantown. There are so many cute items that I cannot find anywhere else. My favorite items to get include cute little metal book holders, that I can't find anywhere else and make great gifts. I also love their stationary and I usually browse and pick up a few cute pieces. Before I check out, I also buy a couple Japanese snacks to share with my family. However, whenever I buy any item here, I usually look for warning labels. On multiple pens and pencils, I have found labels warning about lead exposure. I have also seen labels on products warning about cancerous substances. As a rule of thumb, I only get items that do not have warning labels and items that do not have noticeable plastic fumes. I also do not buy any cooking items or items that touch food in any way. For the snacks, I only get brands that I know and I check for expiration dates. This may seem over the top, but it is always worth keeping in mind that cheap prices come at a cost. read more

Daiso is always a zoo, but the staff there is very efficient, helpful, hardworking and kind. Extra special thanks to CiCi at the register. She kindly (without my asking) checked every individual faux flower (maybe 15!) to check for defects (broken stems, missing leaves/flowers). SO SWEET! Cici did this with so much care and speed! My friend introduced me to this store while we in Japantown and I'm glad that she did! We had fun wandering through the aisles in the huge store and marveling at the array of products that they stocked that we hadn't even realized that we needed! I swear we were there for what seem like hours : ) She walked away with a few household necessities (how she was able to limit herself, I don't know!) and I walked away with a new appreciation for dollar or more stores. I love this Daiso! Great finds and this is the biggest location n the city . Sometimes the staff is not very friendly, otherwise it's overall great. This place can get super busy, and especially if they're reloading the shelves it can be hard to maneuver around but somehow you manage! Pros: This store is super fun to shop in. They have so many great items that you won't often find in an American dollar store. The quality seems to be better than what you'd expect for most discount stores and they have a very large variety of supplies. I love stopping in here for stationary and face masks. The cons to this specific Daiso would be the narrow aisles and the under stocked shelves. There were a lot of random spots in this store where the shelves were super barren and it wasn't appealing to the eye. I also found myself having trouble moving past people through aisles and getting slightly overwhelmed. They also aren't solely a *dollar* store. They sell the majority of items at $1.50 and you will find items around $2-$5. As long as you know what to expect I highly recommend stopping at a Daiso any time you find yourself in SF or Japan. read more

If you think that the Daiso craze was just happening in SoCal, you're dead wrong. Even in San Franciso, people flock to the handful of locations that are available. WHY? Cause, everything inside the store is a $1.50 or otherwise stated. This along with a few conditions are plastered all throughout the store, even in different languages. Located, at the Japan Center (East Mall) of Japantown, the green colored sign outside pretty much gives it away. It's a decent sized venue, with enough room to move around comfortably. One thing I like about Daiso locations are the consistencies in the products they sell. The main issue is the quick turnover of merchandise, so employees constantly have to stock the store for their popular items. THE RULES OF DAISO - Everything inside the store is $1.50, unless otherwise marked. - They don't accept $100 dollar bills. - Credit Card minimum is $10. Debit Card has no minimum. - VISA & MasterCard are accepted only. Purchases over $20 with a credit card requires a valid ID. - All sales are final. No returns or exchanges. - They only sell BRAND Goods, not Closeout or Factory Second Merchandise. The one thing that's different about this location is the security, which results in a few additional rules. This is the first Daiso location that I've seen, which has a guard present. I assume that there's a lot of 5 finger discounts happening. Shown clearly outside the store is a sign stating the following. - Monitored by security camera. - Shoplifters will be prosecuted. - No public restroom. Talk about harsh. But, I don't make the rules and they're supposedly there to protect you and me. The expansion more than doubled the size of this Japantown location. It's not the biggest Daiso but it's so much better than it used to be. They started accepting credit cards too. My picks: * Cute mugs, just got the one with donuts $1.50 each * Hand soap, mildly scented, cute containers, $1.50 each * Sushi molds * Placements and aprons in subdued Japanese patterns Weird finds: * Real silk cocoons, they slip over your finger and you use them for cleaning * Fake boobs I'm amazed by how small the Japanese rolls of toilet paper are. I love this place! Where else can you get Japanese designed tchotskes made in China for $1.50? (Well, besides other Daiso's and Ichiban Kan!) This is 50% better than the 99 cent store! (Or is it 51 cents better?) It is hard to come out of here empty handed, because everything is so cheap! I like to come here and get nice little Japanese dishes for all those little Japanese tsukemono side dishes and sauces used in Nihon no Tabemono. They are cheap here, and many are actually made in Japan. Little kids plastic bento lunch boxes are another great item to get here. Cheaper than Sanrio (but no Hello Kitty.) I cannot get enough of this place. First time here, although I've been to the one in Saratoga a handful of times and nearly lived in one when I lived in Kyoto, Japan. Okaki, fake eyelashes, eyelash glue (not easy to find), bento boxes, ame-chan aka candy, nail polish, decent serving dishes for tea, sake, rice, miso soup etc... and so so so much more! When I find myself describing this to people (which I do surprisingly often) I say it is like an Japanese Dollar Store,,,except most everything is a $1.50. It is a San Francisco outpost of a Japanese chain of 100 yen shops . The have a ton of stuff from things you would never think of and never want, I have seen knitted shoes for your chairs and cheep toys to stuff you can't believe you can buy new for a dollar and a half, like the white ceramic dishes. They also have kitchen tools and food, wrapping paper..... its a big store and filled with useful and odd items. This store has improved significantly over the years. Still not as large as Daiso Serramonte, but better stocked than the small downtown Daiso location. Some things I like (and purchased for $1.50 each): - Only location that stocks BiBimBap spoons. - Cheap replaceable tupperware (but Serramonte stocks larger sizes). - USB charger for car's cigarette outlet. - Lots of arts and crafts materials. - Kitchen gadgets like a spice grinder, electric timer, tea filters, etc. - Metal containers, glass jars, and stoneware bowls. - In case u need a cheap manual ball inflator. - In case u need a bell ringer for your bike. - ItoEn canned teas for $1. Tips: Avoid scissors and nail clippers (Walgreens is better), not reliable, the ones I tried don't cut properly or doesn't last. Unlike the Serramonte location (no restrooms), the mall has bathrooms on both 1st and 2nd floors. And remember that all sales are final. No returns. read more

Most of them actually work very well and last for a very long time. Storage, Organizing, decorating, makeup, bathroom essentials, etc. I buy so many things here! Eyelashes for $1.50 that work just as well as the $10 Drugstore Brands. This is probably the biggest Daiso I've been into. Don't even bother going to the one on Market. This place is located in Miyako Mall in Japantown. This place is awesome! I'm from New Orleans, so I don't have access to Daiso or anything similar. Whenever I go out of town and find out my friends/family are going, I get super excited and end up buying a bunch of things. It's similar to a Dollar Tree and Dollar General, but a Japanese version with a lot of useful things that are usually $1.50 unless stated otherwise. There are a lot of things that are really good deals and some things that I didn't even know existed! The line gets really long even though there are many cashiers to check out customers. read more

I always visit Daiso when I'm in this past of town. You can always find things you need here because it's a lot of every day stuff (cleaning supplies, school stuff, crafts, stationary, food, bathroom stuff, kitchen stuff, etc). I love it because everything is cheap ($1.50 or more) and cutified. There is the occasional eyebrow-raiser (banana holder, random incorrect English phrases on random items like trash cans) but overall so great. The treasures I picked up this time: -cat toys: pole and jingly ball toy for my cat. So simple but can cost up to $13 at some stores. This baby cost me $1.50 so I bought two. My cat loves it!! But broke it already. -green tea pocky: the fiends! They put tons of boxes of these at the front so you're so tempted. Makes it easy to grab tons before you pay. I grabbed two pack and within two days they are all gone :( I think this was $2 each. -sponges: cake shaped ones hah I got a chocolate slice and a strawberry shortcake slice. That shit is cute and still useful! Definitely a cheap sponge though. $1.50 each. -small pan: not just any pan...a bear face shaped one. Also came in frog face and pig face but the bear one is the cutest in my opinion. I will never make round pancakes or eggs again! I don't recall the price of this one. Whenever I see a Daiso store, I have to check it out! There are lots of cute and useful items for $1.50!! They also have some items for a little more or less than $1.50 but the actual prices are clearly marked. This location is pretty well organized with sections for stationary, kitchenware (I bought a few silicone cooking/baking utensils), snacks, toys, gifts, etc. Make sure to bring a shopping bag to avoid paying the bag tax. Probably the biggest and best Daiso I've been to. Compared to all the other ones I'm happened to walk through, this one left me impressed. Imagine a decent quality dollar store! I know! Hard to imagine, but that's what this place is. You can buy so many products on the cheap here and it honestly feels like you didn't buy garbage. This chain of stores seems to be expanding and while commercialism isn't a concept I'm going to indorse with flying colors, I will say this place does it right. Here's why I give Daiso at Japantown a 1 star.....(I'd have liked to give none!)...... I bought an Ice pop maker. I should have paid attention, but I didn't cause at 5:45pm, with just two counters open and a serpentine line, and the chill factor, I just wanted to get the heck out of that store. This was yesterday (Dec 16, 2015). I realized this morning that the Ice pop maker is defective on my way to a kinder class waiting for their class holiday party! I went back this evening to ask to exchange it, but was met with angry words!!!!!!!!! I pondered over the cost of the product - not much you would say, and I agree! It cost $1.50 plus tax. But it's about the principle! That they had a faulty piece on the shelf, and they should at least talk respectfully and engage the customer for a bit before they get dismissive!!!! I was shown the 'No Returns or Exchanges' disclaimer on their bill and was asked to be in my merry way. Well, I'll be on my merry way for sure. This place gets a solid 5 stars from James. This is a much better version of a $.99 store. I never fail to walk out of there with something that I take back home with me that I use in the kitchen. This trip I rolled out with onigiri molds and a musubi maker and other assorted things that I just can't get back home. Virtually everything is $1.50 and if it's not it is clearly marked. Because Hawaii no longer has a dollar store, Daiso is the next best thing! And yes, when I visit SF it takes me 3 visits to Daiso to feel completely satisfied with checking off my shopping lists. Normally, I ship about 3-5 large USPS boxes back home. I shop for my kids, my house, myself and my girlfriends. I love that almost everything in the entire store is $1.50. Some items are $2.00-6.00. Be careful. You can walk out with 3 baskets full and a easy bill of $100+ It seems like they get shipments almost daily. I went there 3 days in a row and every day the employees were unpacking new shipments in the aisles. Mornings or early afternoons are quiet and best time to shop. Late afternoons and weekends are really packed. The lines can be a wait. Tip: Bring your own shopping bags or you can buy bags there to filler up. Tons of street parking near by and tons of eating places in Japan town to feed you as you probably will be hungry from spending hours and hours of roaming their aisles. read more

Love Daiso and try to go every time I am near a store. This one is located in Japantown and is a decent size. Overall a great selection of items including garden items. On this visit they had a variety of hello kitty merchandise which for $1.50 I would definitely stock up on. Some of the home goods in the back seems to be more sparse. The aisles are narrow and will have boxes waiting to be unpacked so be careful if you go in with kids. read more

4/5 STARS AM I IN JAPAN? This is the best Daiso I have been to & I will do my best to come here more often. As I walked through the store, I seriously wanted to buy everything!!!!! They have everything you are looking for, plus everything you didn't think you needed but then ended up needing, things you totally don't need but are too cute to say no to, things that you never saw before, things you already have but its so cheap so you need more, things that you currently have but the Daiso version has a printed face on it so you need a new one, things for your room, your office, your kitchen, your bathroom, your car, things to start a new hobby or to play game. They got everything, even food and drinks! Walking through this spacious and large store, you fill your basket so quickly with unnecessary things, but you tell yourself, "its only $1.50 each" 3 baskets later your at over $100. As I shop here I am already building a new shopping list of my next visit. Just writing this review is reminding me of what I needed to get for my new office. This Daiso is so awesome.
