It's so empty inside the mall, and it feels like a ghost town during the day. The Centre had already been on life support since Nordstrom left in 2023, and Bloomingdale's exiting the mall marked the pulling of the plug. I liked how iconic and eye catching the establishment is, especially the beautiful dome inside.

Dropped by the other day and was disappointed in how SF's flagship mall has now come into disarray... Numerous anchor tenants have left the mall, including Nordstrom and Century Theaters. Numerous parts of the mall were off limits including loos, entrances to the BART/MUNI. Security presence was everywhere from mall security at each entrance of the mall. Almost every tenant inside the mall also had a private security guard as well...

This once lively place has been going down hill over the years. It's really sad to watch. Week by week (month by month), stores have been closing. "Let's spend a day at the mall" is no longer a thought or even doable. About 80% of the stores here are shutdown. It's quiet and dark. "Fast fashion" and Bloomingdale's are the major stores open.

Wow! I had moved out of the Bay Area, and was in town visiting friends, Decide to visit my old stomping grounds, what happened to this thriving mall? Directory listed all these store but only around a handful is still in business. I am guessing once their lease is up, they will be gone as well. So sad....

With the closing of so many stores in SF, and with so many big anchor tenants leaving this downtown mall, I started thinking about the beautiful dome located at the top level of this mall. This dome was constructed originally for The Emporium department store back in 1896, which closed in 1996. Then when the Westfield mall took over, it was incorporated into the new building. The dome is still gorgeous and modeled after the one in Paris. I hope that whomever takes over this building keep this historic and beautiful art piece alive.

8/3/223 It's been a very long time since the last visit.. maybe 2010?.. Coming from my city that has one indoor and one outdoor mall ..is eye dropping.. The fun times of shopping in Sac and Roseville.. A lot of changes and very busy downtown.. I have never seen so many security guards walking and standing guard of some high end stores. It was nice to see some different retail shops too. More tourists from different countries happily browsing and shopping.. Glad I had time to visit..

Beautiful mall! They even had the curving escalators, which are very rare! The store were spread out! Very clean mall! You can shop at Zara, Lululemon, H+m, Victoria's Secret and even get your eyebrows threaded! It's located in the heart of Union Square! Lots going on

Due to the pandemic, this mall has really gone downhill. A lot of the eateries both upstairs and downstairs have closed. So, too, have the shops. My favorite places such as the high end eateries upstairs and Ghirardelli ice cream shop and Williams and Sonoma and the specialty market have all closed down. This place has become a ghost town and I'm not sure why anyone would come here anymore other than to go to the movie theatre or maybe Bloomingdale's. Truly sad.

This was a shocking experience for me here. Upon entering the mall, I noticed that it was a little less busy than usual (especially since it was located in metro San Francisco). I checked out the map of the shopping mall and was very surprised that it had nearly 10 floors! I went to the concourse level, and the Panda Express was quite good. However, when I started going through the escalators to go upstairs, I began noticing that this mall is almost completely empty. There were nearly no shops. It was almost as if it was abandoned. Security guards were wandering around the empty mall, and I was able to spot a few stores, however, they were almost all dark and some had signs stating that it was permanently closed. I found a few stores, such as ecco and H&M which looked vibrant and open, however, some of them were also slightly empty. This led me to believing that this mall is dying and had a sense of uncertainty in its future. Overall, I had an okay-ish experience here. So much potential for this mall. But it was nearly 80% empty as of December 2025.

Pathetically sad. Rapidly moving toward blight. Most of the stores have moved out. The remaining stores have lonely employees standing around as if in one of those abandoned Midwest shopping malls. Why would anyone come to this dump then spend over $150 on a pair of shorts at psycho kitty? The Adidas store is gone, so there's literally zero reason for me to ever come here again. Heading out I decide to walk through Bloomingdale's. Security teams guard the doors, and employees stand around and chat. Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., the employee to customer ratio is 200 to 1. There are more security guards in this store right now than there are customers.

Its a nice sized mall. One of my favorites to visit in sf due to the connection of Bart on the food court level. This makes it a fun stop to grab a bite in the food court, before venturing onto Bart. Recently visiting here, the mall security has been posted at the food court checking "covid papers" which to me seems a mute point, when there are transients in the mall actively spitting on people while walking by. So thats a problem, saw nothing done even as the lady who was spat on complained. Many of the hallmark shops are still present, but noticed many of the smaller shops that I remembered were for lease and closed down, due to a year of being closed. Overall, I enjoy visiting this mall when making a trip into the city with its wide variety of shops and restaurants.

Such beautiful architecture but the mall has no tenants and is so quiet the lights are not even kept on.

Beautiful building and still a couple of retailers there that I like (eg Kate Spade, AG) but most other retailers have vacated the mall, which gave it an eerie feel. It was sad to see the once flourishing place degrade to this state. My hope is for this building to make a come back in the future with healthy traffic but in meantime, wouldn't be a place I'd go out of my way to visit.

I love this shopping center. Located right in Union Square this is the place to be. They have all the high-end stores you typically expect from a large mall. Nordstrom is the largest retailer in the store taking up most of the upper floors. As you go on the escalator all the way to the top my head was spinning from how high we were. We ended up going to the movie theater on the top floor and that was a trek as this mall has so many floors to go through. They currently allow you to go up to the rooftop but the view from there is not the best. They have tables spaced out and during the day it is not too hot and sunny. It is nice to dine outside during these times. They have a large food court downstairs with seating as well. They have several restaurants that I was not familiar with. I was impressed with all the different types of cuisines presented here such as NooBowl, Umai Savory Hotdogs, and Koja Kitchen. I ordered a California style hot dog from Umi Savory Hotdogs and was very impressed. My favorite time to stop by is during the winter holidays. You can see the famous upside-down Christmas tree from the roof. There are lights hanging down from every floor. I loved the architecture of the dome on the top floor. I saw lots of people taking pictures there. There is a short walk to the movie theater down the hall where we ended up finishing our Friday night. This is a nice place to visit if you are shopping downtown in San Francisco.

The stores are super cute, there are things to do, there are restaurants as well as good quick eats (like the mini donut shop - oh my gosh that's so good - and a cute retro candy shop at the end of the pier. Additionally, the views at the end of the pier are magical, and you get to view it with songs from the sealions! There are also magic shows at the pier you can watch for free and a large carousel! Pier 39 is 100%, touristy, but it is still festive and fun, whether you're an out-of-towner or a local resident. The only downsides are the prices (because this area is a tourist trap) and the parking. Here are some tricks and tips: Look for coupons for some of the pier activities (ie, coupon books, Groupon, and even on the ads in the local map they give you for free). I've found coupons for the Aquarium By the Bay, restaurants, the mirror maze thingy, and The Flyer. You can also go to the Visitor Center office on the 2nd floor of the pier! Just ask politely for coupons, and they'll usually have something. (They gave me 20% off some nice restaurants last time.) As for parking, be careful with street parking because if you are even a minute late, I swear, you'll find a ticket on your windshield! The city ticket workers are like hawks. There is a Pier 39 parking garage that is the closest but costs a lot. You can look for open parking lots further away, like at hotels, which can be cheaper. If you are able to walk, that may be a good option -- or better yet, take public transportation when you can. That is part of the San Francisco experience! One more tip: if it's your first time there, bring a lock to put at the end of the pier! (See photo) There are definitely a multitude of photo opps here!

There are many businesses in here. But I came for a business meeting. So if youre going for something like that, you'll want to enter the cement building (no doors just opened entry) and go up one flight of stairs / escalators and head to the lobby. From there, you let them know that you have a meeting and on what floor and give them your name. They'll check in the database for it and then let you into the elevators. The meeting space I was in was on the 12th floor and it was a few large meeting spots and some smaller offices that are rented out to different businesses. There's a wellness room and a business center with stationeries. I'm assuming every floor is different. Mine had some color to it.
