This is a review for the IMAX theater at the Metreon. We have been coming to the Metreon since it was built eons ago, but i have to say i appreciate its awesomeness more now when we went to see the Odyssey. This movie used 77mm film and it was totally awesome on this huge imax screen!! Of course the theater was at full capacity for this movie. The ripples of water in the oceans when they were calm, or during the storm were just so vivid!!! The sceneries, the rocks, etc... everything just popped out in front of you. I read somewhere there are only about 40 IMAX theaters capable of showing the 70 mm films, and one is in San Francisco. Totally appreciate it. read more

Street parking can be rough for Metreon. Recommending public transport such as Bart which has an entrance/exit a block away or paid parking garage at 5th and Mission (833 Mission St). Lots of food and drinks in the same building as AMC Metreon such as ShareTea, Bonchon Korean Fried Chicken, and East Brothers taproom! What makes AMC Metreon a true gem is that it is the ONLY theater with 70mm IMAX in the city and the reason I visit Metreon! I wish the 70mm theater seats would be upgraded to be adjustable though, it can be quite uncomfortable in the first few rows since you cannot adjust your seat to a higher viewing angle. read more

I came here last weekend for a quick visit to get some steps in after attending an event nearby. Many food stalls to choose from, from entree to desserts. There is also AMC theater here where you can get your tickets on the first floor and then go up the escalator to the theater. I had wanted to check out the top floor for the view of the city, but it was closed for a private event. Next time! A great place to hangout and outside of the Metreon is a nice walk around the area. read more

Came here as a kid way back when my mom brought me and my brother here to watch Fantasia 2000 at the turn of the Millennium, and it was a formative childhood memory. More recently, I came here for Wuthering Heights in Dolby for the opening weekend on Feb 13, Friday. I tried calling the theater ahead of time to get some questions answered, and every time I called, nobody answered. Might as well have been a dead number. The usher who checked my ticket had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about the Wuthering Heights promo compact mirrors that were being handed out for people watching it in Dolby during Valentine's Day weekend. I was pointed to customer service, and waited there for a couple of minutes before a rep came over, and gave me a compact mirror. At least she was nice. The Dolby theater was very comfy, and I enjoyed watching the movie. Came back the following week with a bunch of friends to watch the Luc Besson adaptation of Dracula. We had a good time here. Kind of pricy compared to other theaters in the Bay Area, but it's San Francisco after all. read more

This shopping center is located in downtown SF at the corner of 4th Street and Mission Street. It is a four-story building built over the corner of the underground Moscone Center convention center. It has been refashioned as a food-oriented mall, and I think most people come here for movies and dining. read more

The service here is really nice the people who check you in for your tickets are very accommodating and show you and tell you which movie theatre and direction to go too. The value of the movie and selections they have here as well are super important and key knowing that movie theatres have to provide great movies at their locations. read more

Metreon become more more unwelcoming! They don't even open at 11 o'clock. Unless you work in the building itself. You do not have very nice security here very mean, looking intimidation... I feel that should never come here ever again. I got coffee in my hand and it's raining today in San Francisco. read more

Caught Dune 2 on the IMAX screen. Wow! Talk about immersive - that screen is absolutely massive. We had seats in the second-to-last row, slightly off-center, but the view was still fantastic. I can only imagine how intense it would be to be right up front! While heated seats would have been a nice touch to match the premium experience, overall it was a great way to see the movie. If I could leave a 0 star review, I would. This is a review on my most recent experience and possibly unique situation, so it may or may not apply to you. I've been to this theater before and typically have good experiences. Being one of the few true IMAX theaters in the country makes it a huge draw for me. It's why I booked a 10pm Dune: Part Two ticket here the evening before I fly out of state. I have 2 kids, and I couldn't abandon my wife to take care of bedtime routines for both. So I stayed behind to help even though it meant missing the 10pm start. I figured it's fine to miss a bit of it, since I've already seen the movie. Plus, the first 20 or so minutes is dedicated to trailers. So I leave our place around 1040pm and walk there from lower Nob Hill. Yes, SF isn't the best place to be at night, but it was nice to enjoy the cool evening air and to stretch my legs. I get to the theater around 11pm, doors are closed. I try the back door, still closed. Wave down a security guard and she's pissed before she opens the door. Tells me very rudely I'm late for my movie. I said sorry and asked if I can still go in and she goes off. "Why are you so late? Why are you guys always coming late for your movies and expecting to be let in?" and so on. I'm confused because this is the first time I've ever done this and I barely said anything to her to warrant this tirade. So I let her finish, try to explain why I'm late and she obviously doesn't care: "Don't you see what this sign says? We're CLOSED". Tells me to call AMC to have someone escort me since she won't let me in, and when I ask for a number, she tells me "Just google it the same you googled the Metreon" (spoiler alert: I never googled the Metreon but sure). So I do just that. Call the number for the theater listed online 4 times before giving up since no one picked up, and tried to wave her down again. She just straight up walks away even as I knock. I then notice that the sign she pointed to earlier has a number for late night entry, so I try that. Security manager gives me the same spiel. I'm confused and explain that the door says opening hours are until 8:30pm, but I have a ticket for 10pm so how does that work? She explains that there is a grace period until 1030pm and after that, they lock up and apparently AMC employees are gone (probably why no one was picking up my phone). Now I'm even more frustrated because this was never explained in my confirmation email or on my ticket or on any sign anywhere. Furthermore, the guard never gave me any of this information, except sass. So I wasted time standing there calling a line that no one will pick up since she told me to do that. Fast forward to today, I call again 4 times and no one picks up. I can't refund my ticket since it's past showtime, and I never received any services for the payment I made. This is frustrating because again, no one anywhere told me that I had to show up within 30 minutes of showtime. If I had known that, I totally would have canceled my ticket ahead of time and not wasted time walking back and forth to the theater. I figured that since I bought the ticket, I would have access to the theater and any missed time would just be missed time for me. I didn't know that I would be missing out on the entire movie because they close down the theater. If someone can point me to where on the ticket, confirmation, or website it says that we have to show up within 30 minutes of showtime, I will happily delete this review. Until then, I leave this up as a warning to anyone who is watching late-night showtimes. read more

Saw "The Batman" a couple of weeks ago. This is a movie that IMAX was made for. Totally worth the extra $$ to watch the dark knight detective kick the cr*p out of the villains on a really, really big screen. For a night of pure escapism, Metreon is always on my list. read more

Metreon - Shopping Centers Near Me - San Francisco, California

Been avoiding this theater for a while, but my friend Michael convinced me that we wouldn't get shot during the day. It's super easy to get here, MUNI or driving. If you don't need any human help, AMC Metreon is a good place to see a film. Decided to save money by buying our tickets in the theater. They could use more signage, it's not obvious where to locate the row of kiosks, took us 20 minutes to figure out how to redeem 2 passes. The days of box office humans are gone here. I was surprised that a matinee ticket was over $19. On their website it said up to 25% off before 4pm. This show was up to zero% off. Up the stairs we go, to a large open space, and a live person to check your tickets. Turns out we mistakenly bought a seat-free wheelchair space, so we're directed to a customer service desk 20' away. Great guy, solved out problem in 2 minutes. Nice. Once inside there's a long hallway with well marked theaters. The bathroom was pretty fancy & clean. We were early, so decided to play with the front row seats. The screen view was decent & I wouldn't mind being stuck there, considering the comfy reclining seats. Let the show begin... but first we'd like to subject you to 20 minutes of ridiculously loud trailers. Will someone please fire Nicole Kidman already, so sick of sitting through her frozen face AMC ad. Ok, her, & a Coca-Cola ad, & finally the film begins. Excellent viewing experience. Lots of space between rows, and you'd have to be 7' tall with a hat on to obstruct anyone's view. I would have loved some popcorn, but never found a concession stand. I'll come back when there's something besides action films to see. read more

Man, have times changed! Remember when the name Sony was prominent here? And the place was jumping and bustling with a wide variety of people roaming the halls and shopping at the various shops, food stands, and gearing to catch a movie. Yes, seems like an eternity alright. When I last set foot inside the Metreon food court, I remember Sanrio, Buckhorn, and little else that was there. I was more likely to get lunch at the Super Duper around the corner outside. I had the pleasure of enjoying Tsuta, the highly anticipated ramen place near the 4th Street entrance, but they have yet to reopen. Split Bread is here too and was bustling in those days. Now, they are dark. So I actually stopped in here twice in the past two months for YEE's. I enjoyed my soft serve ice cream a couple months ago and, more recently, a vending machine bowl of noodle soup. During my last visit, I had more of an opportunity to see the 'state of the Metreon'. As I walked north from the 4th St. hallway, I noticed Bonchon and Sharetea with stands here now. The theater ticket kiosks were noticeably empty but it was a weekday early afternoon when I came here. After enjoying my lunch and getting a drink, I wandered south to the other far wall and saw a bustling Sorabol stand and an unfamiliar Rolling Thai stand to the left of the larger Buckhorn stand on the right. There were more diners in this section as I believe Buckhorn was serving beer here. It probably has been over fifteen years since I walked the Metreon center area so seeing the empty halls, empty tables, and random people here was a bit disheartening. I remember avoiding coming here due to the crowds that would congregate especially when there was a big convention or event being held at Moscone Center. Now, it is the opposite extreme with vacant stores and the struggling businesses staring at empty walls. Let's hope we are past the apex of this catastrophe and we can finally seem some sunshine peek out of the clouds. Another rotation lunch spot is outside and around the corner is Super Duper, but, given the safety protocols, I cannot enjoy one of my favorite perks eating there. Their pickles station. On the 4th St. side, Tsuta has yet to reopen but I'm hoping, with the fixtures and furniture still being there, they will return. With this center mostly dependent on neighborhood locals, it is a struggle for the businesses to survive this climate. Let's hope for the workforce to return shortly and conventions being scheduled at the hallowed Moscone Center. And let's hope that many of the closed businesses are able to reopen in the near future. read more

One of the not too many movie theaters that are remaining in San Francisco. Movie theater here has multiple theaters and great comfortable seating with recliners. Metreon itself has a few restaurants and a couple of shops so if you're looking to grab something to eat before your movie you can do it all in house. read more

I love the location. It's near Powell and has the nice Yerba Buena gardens. Warning there are homeless but there is a bathroom and the movie theatre is updated with new seats that recline. I really like the poke and ice cream place too! Back when this was newly open when I was younger, this was a cool place to be in the city. Brand new and something from the future. The food court is half closed now :( wanting to try the ramen machine one day! read more

My favorite seats: Regular (depends on specific seat layout): F7 Dolby: E10 (right in the center and eye level with the screen) IMAX: N17 (right in the center and slightly eye level with the screen, although this is the very last row - I might try row M next time). This Metreon is also only one of 8 AMC theaters in the nation that has 15-perf , 70mm film and 2 "GT" digital, multiple laser projectors (aka real IMAX instead of lieMax and the best IMAX laser projections you can get). The Metreon is a nice spot to grab a bite to eat, see a movie or go shopping. The amount of restaurants has dwindled in recent years but the vibe is still alive and well. The grounds are very clean and well kept. One can sit and grab a cup of coffee or hang out with friends since the place is open all the time! I love the modern feel of the Metreon and recently became aware of their banquet venues which are very nice. They have an excellent connection to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The security guard was very rude. I have ticket to movies and went in. He then walked to us yelling not until 11:00am. I have no problem with that and asked if we could just go out the door straight ahead because there were chairs set up outside. I have Ada issues so can't stand for long periods of time. He said no and continued to walk forcefully toward us. I told him no problem and asked to go out the other doors because walking around the entire place is hard. I am an AMC stubs holder and won't be back to this theater and will go to emeryville which parking is only 1.50 and not 16. read more

This is the only place in San Francisco you can go if you're not bringing a date nowadays. If you want to eat alone in the food court, they'll let you. Avoid the Target if you're not bringing a significant other one. Apparently, and file this under the rumour bucket, walking the opposite of the Metreon to Moscone is not particular safe for anyone. My experience is that it's not as bad as it seems, but you're mileage may vary and IABAL. read more

I don't care what all has happened since I was in College, but I do know that the Metreon was onee of my most favoriist places to go.

So sad, what has happened to Metreon? Half of the food court is closed, the remaining few restaurants are just sad, kids that work in those restaurants provide sad customer service with an attitude "I don't care about working here and I don't care about you, the customer". Storefront glass is dirty and scratched. We went to see the movie at AMC, the movie theater is okay, popcorn all over the lobby floors of the theater, no one cares to sweep. Definitely looks like the Metreon is ready to be closed down or hopefully renovated and reimagined. Very sad picture right now. read more

We went here to see the premiere of Ant-Man and Wasp Quantumania in IMAX w/ laser. The theater was very clean and the staff was super nice. We wished they would have had a tray table or something of the sort to place food and snacks on while we watched the movie. The auditorium we were in (auditorium 16) had a huge screen and rocker seats. Overall, this was the best theater I've ever been to and will probably be back here for many movies to come. read more

The Metreon was one of the must stop places to visit in SF. 20 years ago. This place was state of the art and had so many cool things to see. A Playstation store, huge theater, arcade, comic shop, etc. It's not exactly a shell of its former self, but it's pretty close. It's still a pretty cool place, but its name doesn't convey the same praise it was did. It's not a must stop staple of SF anymore. Still, the theater is pretty cool and the layout isn't half bad. It used to be nice. It was always pricey - and it still is - but it's not nice anymore. You come in to the ticket booth - there's noone there, just self serve kiosks, with no directions. If you can figure it out, good for you. If not, just go back home. then you have to find your way up to the 2nd floor. you have to go looking for it. It's around the corner. When you get upstairs, there's still noone there to take your ticket. There is a line to get food. $10 for cold popcorn, cashier extremely unconcerned about you and your little money. Finally you wander around another 1,000 feet or so through piles of popcorn on the floor and find the ticket taker. The restrooms are filthy. The tickets are about $17 apiece. Parking is going to run you another $16. If you get food, that's gonna be about $20 for one popcorn and one drink. So for a couple, a night there will run you about $80-90. There is one woman there in guest services whose job is to listen to your concern and then do nothing. While somewhere, some creepos take all the money and do provide nothing. Can't really hate on this theater. It's got tons of eateries including SoGreen Yogurt and a Chipotle (coming soon!). I remember coming here back in the day to go to the arcade and play Dance Dance Revolution (I'll smoke you, son). Then came the crazy claw machine takeover of the top floor. This is going to be an amazing location to have a Target. Great idea! The last time I made it to Metreon was for the 3:30AM showing of The Dark Knight Rises. Don't think I've ever waited in a line that long before but it was worth it. I hate sitting in the front rows at IMAX showings... Uh, one thing that drives me crazy is the mysterious mouthwatering scents of cinnabons outside of Jillians. Is it just me or do you smell it, too? WHAT TORTURE!? read more

Has Been my favorite movie theater to go to but after this month and a half ive been going im kind of changing my mind , i go atleast 2x a month here and ive noticed the cleaningness has been different ever since a month and a half ago , notice now Bathroom smell horrible (men) , i had lost my phone so i pulled one of the recliners and i noticed it was digusting under , have noticed the cupholders are super dirty and have alot of soda left over which makes it stiky i had put my phone there and noticed it was sticky afterwards , i noticed a mice that ran down on theater 13 (dolby) which i had to leave because i didnt want to have that in mind that a mice might come out again during the movie im watching. Shorter words its BEEN DIFFERENT SINCE A MONTH AND A HALF WOULDNT RECOMMEND COMING HERE to ANYONE ANYMORE TBH. read more

Shopping here is like at home. You got what you need and enjoy it within. Beautiful place and the staffs are very friendly. They are observing health protocols and of course the place is very clean. I am enjoying this place when I need to unwind from the stress of life. So, If you want to destress? Just come here and you will experience a stress-free moment. Parking space is not so crowded. Wow this place has rocketed downhill. Went into the city to catch showing of a limited release movie. What has happened here? I actually worked on the development models back in the 90s of the Yerba buena center and the Metreon. It was beautiful when it opened. There's the need for armed guards, everything is shabby looking there now. And the bathroom... Just disgusting. Urinals had bags on them(out of service) the sinks either didn't dispense water or soap. The hand blowers are malfunctioning too. This facility is being run into the ground. The theater is still pretty nice. Too many ads as usual before the show. We won't ever come back here again. read more

Love this place. It has some decent restaurants, the location is great if you have to kill a few hours in downtown SF.

If I never have to set foot in the Metreon again, it will be too soon -- gone are the semi decent restaurants, the open Chronicle Books store, the "Where the Wild Things Are" area and long-gone is the Air Tight Garage with the virtual bowling (LOVED THAT!!). Same movie theatre, same Sanraku, same crappy Buckhorn -- but worse food options and nothing vegan friendly. Horrible Target cheap crap from China and glaringly white tunnel going to the 4th/Mission entrance. Can you say "BAAAAAAAAA", all you sheeple? I knew you could! The whole area has undergone a revamp to change it from a laid back park & arts center with adjacent concept mall to some kind of gaudy San-Vegas-RETAIL!RETAIL!RETAIL! People, stop looking at your damned phones and pay attention - they are taking your money and you're not getting much for it. read more

Pretty neat place. I highly suggest walking because traffic here can get really bad and parking is expensive. My favorite store here would probably be the boba. I think it's really cool that they have an AMC here too. What's really cool is that the Metreon also has a food court with a pretty good selection of food. The bathrooms here are nice and clean as well! If you go towards the back, you will end up in the Yerba Buena Gardens which is a pretty little area. Very relaxing. read more
