I come here every now and then to purchase stationery for my friends young kids. I went for the first time Saturday during this covid era. As I was standing in line I noticed that the cashiers were not regularly cleaning the checkout or the debit card key pad. After paying with my debit card I asked the cashier if she had any sanitizer and she said they sold out. I asked for some to use right then since I noticed she wasn't cleaning the debit card machine. She said she didnt have any. I asked her if they were not cleaning the key pad after each customer and she rudely said she wasn't. Regulations are in place and they are not following them at the cash registers or key pad. Totally unacceptable. Normally I carry my own sanitizer but I had run out. Not coming back any time soon. read more

I didn't even know this place existed. I stumbled on the Berkeley location and then found a big store in Torrence. So fun for me and the kids. I've been to 3 other Daiso locations throughout Southern California & this one, imo, is by far the best. They have a great selection & everything is so organized & clean. I love it! I like bringing my mom here because she will reminisce about what it was like growing up in Japan & find items that have not changed much in design or quality. She is very particular about practically everything lol so it makes me happy when she sees something she likes & it ends up in our shopping cart. As always, be a savvy shopper as you would at similar stores that sell cheap items ( .99 store, Dollar Tree, etc) because depending on where it was made, it may not be as durable as you'd like. read more

This review is for MARLENE and MARLENE only. If you're not Marlene, keep scrolling. I walked into daisy today to get a few things I needed before the new school semester starts. I got my stuff and went to check out and unfortunately the machine is not reading my chip. I have been having problems with my card but there's nothing I can do while I wait for a new one to come in the mail. Every place I've gone has had an alternative method in paying. Apple Pay, or tapping my card or entering it manually. Every suggestion I offered Marlene, she would say, idk or you can try. She literally offered me no alternative methods to pay on her own. Here I am trying to give them my money and she's just standing there just staring at me while I tried to figure it out. At the end I say ok, well too bad and I leave the store. I was halfway to my car when I realized I had another card in my wallet. Marlene was so useless through out this process that she didn't even ask if I had another card to pay with and I was so flustered I didn't even think about it. So I went back into the store and asked if she still had my stuff so I could pay for it with another card. She said she did. She was helping a customer so I stood at another register to wait. She finished helping that customer and then helped me---just kidding! She helped another customer. And then another customer. Marlene basically ignored the fact that I was waiting and just let me sit there. I don't know what happened to Marlene to make her so miserable, but I honestly hope she feels better. I'll go back on another day to make my purchase, but hopefully I don't run into Miserable Marlene. When I walked in here, it reminded of the 100YEN store in Japan! Inside this palace of cute to nonsense items, you will be drawn to buy at least a few items. Did I mention everything inside is only $1.50?!? They carry the most outrageous to useful things and many of them are made in Japan. I especially like the personal items and stationery. Plus the snacks!! If you're not sure what to buy, they have a top 5 list at the front of the store of the most popular items (i.e. beauty items, household products, etc). Be careful to inspect all your items before you purchase it because there are absolutely no exchanges or returns. Such supreme sadness to find M 99 closed! Yelper Jennifer N. tells me "Daiso opened up there - cute stuff too." (Paraphrased.) She was so wrong, like wrong squared. If this were "Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom" and the "Temple of Doom" was a warehouse full of the cutest stuff ever (rivaling "Hello Kitty" without the overhead charge of the franchise added onto every piece), and we were all "Indian Jones," and instead of the whip we have those carry along cute plastic little baskets to carry around and fill up with odds and ends in bright hilighter colors - stuff like gel scented room fresheners and blue bunny piggy-banks, fushia colored dust wands, and net laundry bags for sweaters, bento boxes and insulated lunch carriers, stationary, pens, face cream, stacking plastic bins, house slippa, gloves, eyelash curlers and mascara, and, and, and... . and instead of the evil villian at the end there's the register people telling each of us that "there is no exchanges and no returns" ? are you clear on the policy? (Everything is $1.50 unless otherwised marked.) It's just that one moment of "whatever you do, don't open your eyes!" (as you listen to the ghost of your dollars swirl around.) So how was Jenninfer N. wrong? If you splay the fingers of your hands out, place them by your collar bones, lean in a little and say "to die for" - Daiso's cute stuff is "to die for." Daiso. It's like a Japanese 99 cent store. Except for $1.50. Everyone always asks me, "What's Daiso?", and that's really the only way I can describe it. So many things inside, my eyes grow wide thinking I need all the tiny trinkets and things that are in here. They have everything from giftwrap to kitchenware to japanese snacks to school supplies. Everyone keeps telling me that this Daiso in Gardena is the biggest and best location around. I definitely have to say that the new location in Hacienda Heights is much better. They're about the same in size but I like the selection of items in Hacienda Heights better. Everything is still $1.50 and most of the merchandises are the same. They don't allow you to return or exchange anything. There aren't as many check out lanes here but they have a push cart, which is nice. The parking situation here is much better than both Monterey Park and Hacienda Heights. read more

I adore this place!!!! Its like I have died and gone to plastic heaven, this place literally sell everything to anything. So many cute things!! you can get for a reasonable price. Funny some of the things they sell here can be a bit perplexing, not sure if its a torture device or magic wand. Either way they have mostly everything. I took up bento making for a hobby and this place provided everything I need to make a cute bento box. During halloween, I bought all my decoration from this place and received lots of compliment. I don't usually understand some of the labels attached to the objects, but WHO CARES!!! their cute. So I checked out the Daiso Japan in Torrance and was immediately in love. But then I came here and realised, THIS is love. This store is so much bigger and better and PINKER than the Torrance one. They have everything that the Torrance one does (and that one has a LOT)... but even MORE. How is that even possible?! And yet despite having a ridiculously large inventory, the entire store is so clean and well organised. This location used to be Marukai 98, which also had cheap Japanese goods, but it was not well maintained and was usually quite messy. I'm so glad that they got rid of that and replaced it with this :D The check-out area is a bit awkward though, since to be at the front of the line you passed by the "entrance" to one of the check-out counters. That means if that particular cashier frees up, you have to walk back through the line to get to him/her. I wish they would have done the set-up differently but oh well. The line is always long but moves fairly quickly. Please note that there are no returns or exchanges allowed, there is a $10 minimum for credit card usage, and they do not accept $100 bills. And, of course, everything is $1.50 unless otherwise marked. Love how everything is well-made and yet so cheap! Being in a large plaza, parking is plentiful.. but can take a while to find a spot nearby since it's a popular plaza. And it's only going to get worse once the 85C Bakery opens... read more

Tired of having to spend all your hard earned $ at your local 99c store? Want to live a little dangerously? Enter Daiso where almost everything is $1.50. Yep it's a major step up from the 99c store so only come here when you have that extra 50c burning a hole in your pocket. They have a bunch of stuff that I use daily and some things that I'd never think to use but caught my eye like: - Instant boobs (for nothing tells your wife you love her more than a pair of fake, cheap, plastic boobs) - AC cover - Toilet paper cover (for hiding the shame of not buying Charmin?) - Shape retaining bra laundry nets (ah the perils of being a woman) - Door knob grip - Chair leg covers - Corner covers for baby proofing tables, chairs etc. ... and that's just isle #1! They also have products that will cover your hardware, gardening, kitchen, pet, sewing, filing, storage and many other needs. Some are quirky, some cute and some genuinely useful. My favorite thing I bought from here is a whiskey ice tray. It produces 3 tennis ball sized ice balls. I like to use them when I make cocktails at home. The ice stays frozen and keeps my drink cold for a long time. There are more expensive versions of this but the $1.50 version does the job just fine. Daiso will blow your mind. read more

Forget the dollar store! Daiso is where I get all the cheap stuff I don't really need but absolutely have to have. There's spices and sauces here for $1.50 that I'd easily pay $4+ at 99 Ranch. Same brand, same size. I was pleasantly surprised that the cheap price does not reflect the quality. Though this may not hold true for every single item in the store, the basket full of knick knacks I purchased could easily rival IKEA products. Keep in mind unless you buy $10 worth of goods (which really is not that hard after spending 10 minutes in the store) it's cash only. Clean, shiny, brand-spankin' new! That said, this is a great place to find both the useful and the useless, with most of it priced at $1.50. Daiso occupies the space that used to house a Marukai, and I'm stoked, because the Marukai, as much as I liked it, was looking really run down. A few things are a bit more expensive, but I don't think anything was priced higher than $8. The grocery section was really small, but I wasn't there for food. I was there, like everyone else, to browse endlessly and to buy crap I probably didn't need :) Cards are accepted, but you need to meet a $10 minimum, I believe. Still, it was a lot of fun to roam through the endless aisles of dubiously useful items haha. I'll be back when I'm in the area again :) read more

I love this Daiso! It's way better than the one in Torrance. The first time I went to this one I went with my friend and 3 of our kids and we spent 3 hours there and I felt like it wasn't enough time! A few days ago I went again and only spent 45 mins and it was a tease lol. Even though I have to drive 20 mins there and back I rather go to this one any day :D So everything here is basically a $1.50, but there are items that are $2.00-$16.00, but they will be labeled with a sticker with the price. If it's not marked then it's $1.50. The staff here is way nicer then the Torrance Daiso. Their English isn't 100% but they don't mind helping you. The Torrance one most of the staff is 18-25 years old and they don't ever help me and when it's closing time they rush you out big time! The vibe is not good. Definitely go to Gardena DAISO! I've been to plenty of Daiso stores around my area..but this one, is huge! I was excited to know that there was a Daiso about 3 minutes from our hotel we were staying in Gardena. Not only is this place clean, but it was neatly organized. It has EVERYTHING! Although I came here specifically for a comb, we got other travel essentials that we needed for our trip. Who doesn't like cute and affordable things!? All in all this place was very convenient for our trip. We got what we needed and got plenty of help from the workers. $1.50 is the price for everything, unless otherwise stated. I love this place and how cutely inexpensively everything is. The only time when I had an issue was when I needed to buy a water pitcher and it was $3. Yeah, people would say, "Dude, it's only $3 freakin' dollars." But when you're shopping in a store where everything is literally $1.50, cheapness goes to your head and you can't settle for anything less. I believe everything is imported from Japan, which explains why everything is so cute. I got a sponge with a happy face on it. Now I get excited to wash my dishes everytime. They have great art supplies; they have giant origami paper for you to make oversize cranes and boats and such. There's also those tube thingies that you can roll up blue prints and paintings into. I love this Daiso a lot better than the one in Torrence in terms of the items they carry. In case you're new to Daiso, it's basically the equivalent of a Japanese 99cent store - unless marked otherwise. I think the highest price I've seen is about 4 or 5 dollars, but it is very clearly and visibly marked so fear not! Everything else is $1.50 We just moved into our new apartment, so it was super beneficial to do our shopping at Daiso first. We got shower curtains, lining for kitchen shelves, containers, packs of tupperware, kitchen supplies, sponges, curtains, EVERYTHING! Each for $1.50. Amazingggg! And to be honest I like the selection of items here rather than the one in Torrence. The snacks isle is also much bigger as well, huzzah! read more

This is located on the corner of Artesia and Normandie (McDonald's side), and was formerly the Marukai 98 cents store. Compared to the Torrance and Irvine location, this is the biggest one by far. Right when I entered, I didn't know which way to go or where to start. My goodness, there's stuff everywhere! Well, I guess bigger store space = more variety = stuff that aren't at the other locations. And the $1.50 price tag is like a vacuum that tries to suck up my will power. Parking here does suck, especially on weekends, but it's usually not as crowded during mid to late afternoon. read more

I admit, on my first trip I was suspicious. A dollar store is a dollar store, even if it's japanese, right? Nooope. Once I got over my uptight attitude, I realized they have a lot of cool stuff here. Maybe I wasn't excited about some of the items in front - Healthy & Beauty and Toys didn't really interest me. But once I got to Kitchen stuff, and electronic accessories, hardware, and stationery, my attitude changed. The bargains. Oh, the bargains! Everything is so cheap, I'm afraid to ask where it comes from (China, natch). But no, I don't want to know. I'm glad that there is a big Daiso near I work. There are a lot of small Daiso near my house but I don't like it that much due to over crowded and small space to get through. Also small space means not enough merchandise like this one at Gardena. I prefer to shop at bigger location and have enough space so that I don't have to worry about rude people pushing you to get through. Daiso Gardena has mostly everything and it is stocked with their merchandise. Been to several Daiso in Japan and they have a lot more stuff that they don't import to USA. One merchandise which I thought I would never see in Daiso USA was the Disney Laundry bags. I went ahead and bought couple from Daiso Japan and brought it back. About 2-3 years later, I was surprised to see the Disney Laundry bags available at Daiso USA. They are good for personal laundry use and as a gift. Can't beat the price since it's Disney brand. Pros: The quality is good for Daiso brand compare to American dollar store. Variety of selections to look at for beauty, home, office, and garden. Pretty, Modern, Vintage, Trendy Seasonal merchandise are must have Cons: Daiso is known for 100yen - $1.00 but Daiso USA is $1.50 Everything should be 100yen like Daiso in Japan but it's not. If you look at it closely to the merchandise, some are $3.00 - $5.00. A little disappointment with there plan of have everything 100yen or $1.50. read more

Does Daiso sell gift cards? Someone get me one for Christmas, please! I have never walked out of Daiso spending less than $50. That's a lot of cute stuff that I don't need and that I'll never really use, but are just floating around my house being cute. I've gotten a lot of gifts here, and since they're so darn cute! and it helps that no one would ever guess I only spent a $1.50! I've gotten my share of practical items, like boot prop-up hooks, Halloween costume accessories, and basic kitchen supplies (all in the shape of cute animals). This one in Irvine is one of the best Daiso's I've ever been too. It beats a lot of the ones in Nor Cal which is the ones I used to go to before they finally came to So Cal. :) read more

This Daiso is HUGE!!!! This place has everything!!! Its like a fancy 99 cents store but in this case its $1.50 for 95% of the items and a little more for some of the larger items. This is great place to find nifty little things from Japan that you would normally not be able to find anywhere else in the US. OMG! OMG! OMG! Yesterday was my first time shopping at Daiso Japan. I fell in love with this place in an instant, but who wouldn't. I was bummed to find Daiso had replace my beloved Marukai discount store. No worries though, because my sadness was short lived. The second I walked into the Daiso Japan, I had hit "discount heaven!" Everything in Daiso is from Japan and almost everything is $1.50 each except for those Harujuku girl wigs, men's dress shirts and a few of those ladies garments that are like $8. I found whopping deals on plastic kitchen gadgets and knick knacks, which is what I was looking for. The office and art supply sections have overwhelming great selections to choose from, which shocked me. And those rather expensive Japanese make-up and skin care products are at a fraction of the prices that I see at Marukai and Mitsuwa. OMG! Aside from loving everything Japanese at Daiso, they do have their minor drawbacks. For instance, the snack section is tiny and a little boring. Oh, and they only take cash or debit card. I was in heaven! They had everything and much more than I could imagine. Everything was so colorful and had the cutest characters all over them. The kitchen accessory area has awesome toys, Bento cases, chopsticks, utensils, strainers, sponges, etc. I picked up a couple of colorful Bento cases even though I have plenty at home. The office supply area was also my favorite. Love the different kinds of notepads, folders, pens. I love the nonsense English that is written on them. Wow! They have everything I need here! I live in a really, really, REALLY small place so their kitchen and bathroom accessories are the perfect size for me. I would probably steer clear of the actual pots and pans, but things like small hand towels and cutting boards and cooking utensils are great here. This Daiso is so huge that I could easily spend at least an hour and a half going through the whole store and oohing and ahhing at everything around. Dollar Tree may be cheaper, but Daiso does have a lot more in the way of organizational tools and kitchen/bathroom accessories. Some things are worth more than others, but that's for you to decide which is which. My last trip I bought some sponges (very cute ones that smile at me) and a wood cutting board. They are just what I needed for my small kitchen and are extremely useful items that I use nearly everyday! For $3 all together, it was worth it! read more

Everytime I walk into Daiso, I squeal like a little schoolgirl. Yes, a young Asian school girl probably in a plaid uniform. Now on to the review.... This place has everything! It's like a 99cent store, but maybe more like the "Under $10 store". From housewares like cooking gear to exercise pieces, and don't forget the random stuff in the middle. It's amazing. Snacks, drinks, vitamins. Gardening tools, dog and cat toys, 3 ring binders. The possibilities are endless. Really, it's a cool spot. Very Japanese and yet so American. The only thing I'd avoid are the air fresheners. There are many. It's a large industry in Japan, and I'll say that none of them really work. But, the Black Squash smell is amazing. read more

If you do, take time browsing each aisle slowly, it's amazing what the Japanese culture can teach us! It's definitely a step above your average dollar store, though it does have the basic things you'd expect to find from one. Some of the gems I found in this place are: foldable containers to put your knock knacks, under the bed storage, slippers, glass containers (for food), a ton of compartments for organizing your kitchen. Friendly and clean service. But beware, no restroom! You'd have to visit its neighbor 85deg, but that's another review I'd have to write :) read more

One of my favorite Daisos! There's actually space to walk around compared to a lot of the newer Daiso openings. This was actually the first Daiso I went to back when they were in the first few weeks/month(?) of opening. Who can turn down a discount store that offers so many things you can need in daily life (school, kitchen, bath, food, beauty, etc)? Like a friend just told me, paying the extra 50 cents (vs. 99 cents store/dollar tree) to get items with a little better quality (maybe? Haven't tried everything but everything I've ever purchased works great) and cuter appearances seems like a deal to me! This is the nicest Daiso I've been to. They sell everything here. This location has the most selection, even better than Little Tokyo! I absolutely love coming here! I come to mainly get stationery supplies, but I end up going through the entire store and finding lots of things to pick up. I love how bright the store is. The prices are clearly marked if something is a little more expensive. This is my favorite Daiso, I always try to come here instead of the other locations. I don't like two things: the $10 minimum to charge to your credit card and the return and exchange policy. There's no returns or exchanges at all! What you get is what you get so make sure you really want everything you're buying before you head to the counter! Besides this I really love shopping here. I don't live too close to here but I make a special visit to come to this store. They have so many cool and cute things here!! read more
