Had a conflicting experience at Daisies, but food overall was positive. Some dishes were great, others average, none bad. Cocktails were solid, wine list was ok (basically Italian with some USA). Service was average - friendly when there, but absent a lot during the meal, leaving water/wine/cocktail glasses empty for periods of time, and course timing was uneven throughout. For the food - heavy pasta menu. we started with onion dip (highlight is the house ruffles), fritto misto (really only here for the cheese curds, don't need the other stuff), simple green salad (solid, well dressed), shaved zucchini (very basic and boring, avoid), and THE overpriced tomato (was very tasty but agree it's overpriced lol). For pastas - the favorites were the Pappardelle (this sauce!), Spaghetti alla Chitarra (great texture and unique flavor), and Agnolotti (great texture, unique flavor). The gnocchi was heavy on heavy with little acid to balance, the rigatoni was average, the pierogi was another that was very heavy (yes I know it's pierogi but thought there would be more balance), and the Stracci (honestly don't remember much about this one). We also ordered the Prawn, but ended up cancelling this dish due to the wait and heat. So overall nice food and good for sharing. The main issue with our experience was the environment in the restaurant, it was so extremely warm inside. Like the most uncomfortable I've been while dining out at a decently fancy place. We were seated in the back room, there was no ventilation/visible vents/fans/nothing. We had a view of the thermostat which showed 86 degrees our entire meal, it was cooler outside when we left. We were using the menus as fans, and napkins as sweat wipes. The server brought us glasses of ice to help keep us cool, which quickly melted. Water is served at room temp which is usually great, but not when its this hot inside. Wine pours warmed to the incorrect temp way before we could finish glasses. Multiple of our diners stepped out before the conclusion of the meal to get fresh air and cold water from the convenience store. They were very agreeable when we asked to cancel the prawn, but they did nothing to address this issue during our meal (except for those cups of ice) and I'm very surprised that they still kept this area of the restaurant open. I met a friend here to do some work during the weekday. This place is like a bakery/coffee shop cafe during the day then happy hour full service restaurant in the evening. There is pay to park in front or you can find a side street nearby with free parking. It has cute simple decor with a cafe area and counter you order from during the day. They have unique pastries (like a brussel sprouts or hotdog one) and also classic stuff. They serve lunch between 11am-2pm. They have a very small lunch menu- sandwiches, a salad, chips, etc. I ordered an iced Caramel Latte and then later the Rachel sandwich and chips/onion dip. Everything was pretty good. The food is a little costly- it was like $37 for everything, but it tasted fresh/homemade. This is a perfect place to meet a friend or even come alone and just get some work done. I would come back and I would also try their dinner service. (Seems mainly like pasta!) On Sat-Tues they close between lunch and dinner. We recently celebrated an early holiday dinner at Daisies. Overall, the food was the true highlight - we had the Fritto Misto as a starter, and followed it with three incredible pastas (the Rigatoni, Stracci, and Ravioli). Of these, the Ravioli was probably the highlight, though all three were delicious. We also each got a glass of wine and cocktail, both of which were great as well. While the food was terrific, the service sadly was not. In the course of a 2 hour meal (seated at 7:00, left at 9:00), we spent only about ~40 minutes with food in front of us. Our starter didn't show up until 7:45 (a comment was made that the kitchen was slammed) and the remaining dishes were brought in fairly quick succession afterwards. By 8:25 we were ready to order dessert...but our waiter was nowhere to be found. We saw them visit several other tables near us, but they did not check back in or look our way, despite us trying to catch their eye several times. After ~25 minutes (not an exaggeration) we flagged down someone else passing by to ask for a to-go box and the check. It wasn't until we had already paid and were getting ready to go that the waiter stopped back by our table, with the dessert menu in hand - a prospect we had given up at that point. Obviously it was a busy night in the holiday season, so kitchen and service delays are certainly understandable. But when there is a mandatory 25% service charge and you only speak to your waiter 4 times, it puts a damper on the evening. We still enjoyed the food and I don't believe our experience was representative of others dining at Daisies that evening, but we ended up leaving feeling like an afterthought. read more

Daisies offers interesting, seasonal flavors of pastas. I have come twice now, and menu highlights are the rainbow trout and the quality of the pasta itself. It is cooked perfectly al dente. I have enjoyed some flavors of pasta over others, but overall this is a great place to come if you want pasta but not looking for traditional Italian. For example, in this most recent visit, the truffle ricotta ravioli with roasted grapes, pancetta, and crispy brussels sprouts was perfectly balanced. However, I found the pappardelle with mushroom ragu to be far more acidic than expected and not my favorite flavor profile. I find the interior to be quite charming and warm, and I especially like how it is a cafe by day and a bustling restaurant at night. Service has always been kind, but food can take a bit to come out. We all wanted dessert ... so based on our friends' recommendations, we popped into Daisies after dinner at a nearby restaurant. We didn't have reservations, but we were easily sat at the bar, which was honestly ideal. We felt a little silly going to such a nice restaurant for just dessert, but the servers and workers were very kind and didn't make it seem like a big deal at all! The restaurant itself is quite large, with very modern decor and a bougie ambience. The bar was grand but not overly so, still feeling approachable for us. Luckily, the dessert menu was brief, which made selections a bit easier. We split 2 desserts between the 4 of us, opting for the apple pie a la mode and the butterscotch budino. Both were incredibly delectable and delicious. I loved the orange pairing with the budino, and the crust on the apple pie / cake was so flaky and buttery and lovely. It was the perfect amount of sweets for the 4 of us, and for the quality, the pricing was just right. Came here for an early dinner on a Thursday evening. We made a reservation but saw plenty of open tables, so if you're able to go on the earlier side I don't think you'd need a reservation, but it did start getting pretty busy as we left I had a mushroom sour to drink, it was an NA cocktail that had an unusual mix of umami and the sweetish sour you would expect from other XYZ sour cocktails. I really liked the almost tingly flavor from the sour and the noticeable but not overpowering richness. I also liked the choice to use egg whites to give it a more creamy texture. Would highly recommend if you're an adventurous eater For my main course I had the rainbow trout. It's richness on richness on top of even more richness that somehow works. The fish is truly crusted in almonds and doused in olive oil, and the fish has a good enough taste to still contribute to the overall dish. I'd recommend as part of a family style meal, but the other main courses are much more balanced I got to try a few pasta from the others I was dining with and thought they were really good as well! We were excited to get a table to try Daisies during restaurant week. We've enjoyed their takeout lunch menu in the past, but have not had the opportunity to dine in before. We opted for a relatively early dinner reservation on a Sunday, so we may have encountered less friction with crowds or overwhelmed servers than others may have experienced during restaurant week or at other times. Having said that, the pacing of our meal was comfortable and the service was very pleasant. The three in our party enjoyed the delicious onion dip and homemade chips with the caviar supplement that was discounted for restaurant week at the start of our meal. The onion toast appetizer was the choice for two of us and the burrata was selected by the third. All of us appreciated the flavors and textures represented in the dishes. The 1/2 portion of the onion toast was an appropriate size given the quantity of food served throughout the 4-course offering. We tried the strozzapreti with duck bolognese and pappardelle with mushroom ragu for the pasta course. Both were beautifully prepared with wonderful texture to the pasta and flavors to the sauces without being heavy or muddy. We were so full already that two of us opted to take a portion of our pastas home (they reheated well and were enjoyed later). For our entrees, we sampled the pork collar and the chicken. One diner mentioned that they would have appreciated more of the "salsa verde" withe their pork, which really ate more like a chimichurri. We all agreed that the mushrooms served with the pork collar were a delicious component, and that the pork was perfectly cooked throughout. The chicken was underwhelming. Although it was well cooked and moist, the flavor was unremarkable and some of the beans served alongside it were a bit tough. It wasn't bad, it just paled in comparison to the pork. We all took home some of our entree to finish later. For dessert, we sampled the butter cake and the rice pudding. The granola was essential to the rice pudding to add taste and texture. The dish was enjoyable but not amazing. The butter cake on the other hand was something to write home about. The texture was sublime, the marscapone cream on top was delicious, and the apple compote that topped it off was homey and so good. Two of us ended up packing up portions of our desserts. In total, we were at the restaurant for about 90 minutes and really enjoyed the experience. We were happy to sample a broad range of Daisies' offerings and found it to be a more satisfying RW experience than many others that we have had this year or in the past. I specifically mentioned the food that we brought home as well because so many restaurant week menus offer rather modest portions and diners may leave feeling hungry or disappointed. Daisies is a prime example of 'farm to table.' All the food items are of local produce and are some of the freshest ingredients I've had. My fiance and I were here for happy hour at the bar and also dined in for dinner. The happy hour menu is limited and the prices are not much of a difference compared to their dinner menu. Ex: onion dip during happy hour is $8 vs dinner menu is $9. Neither of us loved the drinks offered for happy hour, a bit too earthy and limited for our liking but that's not to say others won't enjoy it. The dinner menu for drinks and food was where it was at for us! For drinks we started with the sour in green and mushroom margarita 2.0. I really enjoyed the sour in green - it was refreshing, strong and delightful. The mushroom margarita was definitely mushroom heavy and unique. We both thought it was an interesting cocktail and appreciated it. Would we order it again? I'm not sure but we are glad we tried it. For food we started with the onion dip and overpriced tomato. The overpriced tomato was wildly delicious. Although the base is literally a tomato, it is elevated with fresh sourdough bread and bone marrow. I enjoyed my smash mushroom burger, although $17 for a mushroom on a burger with mayo and not even a handful of chips (or some bread and butter pickles to cut the richness) seems like a lot of $. My mint tea was fine. However, I don't understand how this restaurant literally works. The feng shui at the counter is a disaster; it's a tiny little area for people to lineup in, and no one knows exactly how to line up or even where the menu is, which is what the person behind the counter had to keep explaining to people over and over again as we waited to order. (Please stand here! Here is the menu!) You order at the counter and then sit down and take a number, but you are also responsible for getting your own utensils and napkins, at least I was, since nobody brought them to me, not even the person who brought me my sandwich. You are asked to tip for service before you even sit down, but there seems to be almost no table service provided whatsoever. When I got up to ask for napkins, the person didn't know where they were. (I waited tables for years so I appreciate it when servers are well-trained.) I was shocked by how absolutely delicious everything was! Every single dish was a huge hit, not a single miss. We tried 4 of their pastas - the mushroom pappardelle, the pierogi with mussels, rigatoni, and spaghetti alla chitarra which had braised rabbit and celery root Alfredo. I almost can't even pick a favorite because all the dishes were so good. The spaghetti alla chitarra was such a pleasant surprise I didn't know what to expect but it was so unique and I loved the celery flavor. I visited daisies with a few friends for Chicago restaurant week! It was a bit tough getting reservations closer to dinner time since they're so packed but we ended up coming in around 9 pm. My first encounter with Daisies was via the Logan Square Farmer's Market, where I picked up some fresh pasta and sauces from their stand. It was really good, both the pasta and the sauce; they make a brown butter sauce which is the best. The dude at the stand was super friendly and that combined with the quality of the pasta made me a fan. They did a pickup here in Andersonville and that made picking up their goodies even more convenient. My first visit to the restaurant was a couple months ago when they had a collaboration with one of the hot dog places in town (I think it was the Weiner's Circle). They made an elevated Chicago hot dog and I had to try it! It was delicious. It was a croissant-stuffed dog with all the Chicago-style fixings, including a little sport pepper on top as a garnish. I happened to come right when they were bringing an entire pan of fresh-from-the-oven ones to the display and I was next in line. Talk about luck! Their other pastries looked delicious as well, but this is what I came for and for once, it was all I left with. Parking is a disaster on Milwaukee here; I'm not sure if it's ever good. But there's a bus down the street, I believe. The interior of the restaurant looked really nice so I'm sure it would be a lovely place for a nice meal if you dine in. read more

I visited Daisies in Chicago for brunch this morning. The atmosphere was nice, and our server was friendly and attentive. The intentions behind the service were good, but the pacing of the meal was off. There was about a 20 minute gap between receiving dishes, which made the experience feel drawn out. I also didn't care for the texture of the eggs on the egg prosciutto bruschetta dish. While I probably wouldn't return for brunch, I'd be open to giving them another try for dinner to see if the timing and flow are better. Daisies is one of the hottest spots in Chicago for a good reason! This was my second time here, and all I can remember from my first visit is the regret of not getting the potted carrots. Every table around us got them and raved about them so the main mission of this trip was to obviously get the carrots, they were fantastic. I also always recommend the Frito Misto and chips & dip. When you're here for tomato season you have to get the tomato as a starter! All of their house made pastas are also incredible, they rotate often but the Pierogis are a staple usually and if you like mussels then get them. We got their cavatelli and then a Mushroom Papardelle which were my two favorites of the evening. The nduja is good but not great, I've had it twice and it's just not for me I guess. And for dessert they have an amazing pastry chef so you can't go wrong with anyone. A top notch place, they do charge an automatic service fee (which for whatever reason seems to be the main reason people leave negative reviews?) so be prepared for that, but I always have had good service here so to me it is always warranted! read more

This place is a vibe. Completely not what I expected when I stopped in for a weekday lunch with some friends. First, it's super casual - you order at the counter and they give you a number. I was waiting for my dining companions so I had a dreamsicle scone as a starter (I have dessert first whenever I can TBH). It was made in-house and was absolutely delicious. I even loved the pearl sugar on top which is kinda unique for scones but I enjoyed it! It added texture (as opposed to sweetness) which was nice! Then for food - I ordered the: * Onion Dip (House made Ruffles) - house made ruffles? Yes & yes! This was DELISH dip and the ruffles were perfect. Crispy lil' lattices. *Shaved Brussels Sprouts pear | pistachio | rosemary - While their chicken parm sando looked absolutely bomb, I was kinda full so I opted for a lovely shaved brussel sprout salad. The New Year's Eve prefixed menu portions were extremely modest given the $95 per person cost. For the starters, the Swiss Chard dip came with just 4 toasted pieces of bread approximately 3 inches wide and a quarter inch thick. The main course we had was especially modest. We ordered the Rotolo and Cappelletti to share between two people. The Rotolo came with two pieces that were okay-sized. The Cappelletti however was just 8 pieces each about an inch and a half wide. Dessert had the largest portions of the entire meal. The food was delicious and service was great, but I didn't enjoy leaving hungry with a $330 bill (we had 3 cocktails). Such an adorable spot for coffee and a light lunch. Although I didn't try any of the pastries, they all looked simply delicious. There was a good variety of Plain, Chocolate, and Hot Dog Style(?!) croissants, as well as Gluten-free Loafs, regular Muffins, and even Vegan Oatmeal Crème Pie. I went for my classic Matcha Latte with oat milk and sugar free vanilla and it was so creamy and good. I'm a picky matcha drinker by this one definitely ranks as one of my current favorites in the city. Wow. The pasta here is phenomenal. Every dish is cooked to Al dente perfection. The stracci and ravioli are out of this world. The complex flavors working together to give the pasta a unique flavor profile that I've never tasted before. The lamb for the stracci was tender and the herbs used for the sauce were so flavorful and not overpowering. Service was efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. The food came out at a good pace and the portions were a good size. I was stuffed after the meal. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Chicago for pasta. Review of lunch menu & service: I got a Cubano - roasted pork, ham, house pickles, swiss, ciabatta And Rhubarb bostock & hazelnut babka from the cafe. Starting with the pastries - very good. Bostock was proper - crunchy exterior, soft interior.Pastry and rhubarb jam were yummy. Hazelnut babka was textbook and an absolute treat. Sandwiches not so great. Bread was also very good but could be toasted more. Overall, sandwich was bland with respect to the meats. I could only taste the pickles and mustard. Same issue with my friend's whitefish sandwich. Sandwich was very greasy to hold which I don't necessarily mind IF the meat was flavorful. Service was subpar. Although the employees were nice, I don't like the format of getting your own glasses, water pitcher, and plates. And our table was never checked on. read more

Only great things to say about Daisies. Their newly renovated space is such a dream - it's a cafe during the day with a bunch of outlets if you're working there. There's plenty of seating too. We had to try the Weiner Circle x Daisies collab and it did not disappoint! You can get the hot dog croissant right at the bakery - no need to order ahead. They have this until the end of January. Relish and pickles accompany the hot dog - so tasty! Only thing is that it wasn't warm - so it may taste better bringing home and toasting it yourself. We split the ham and cheese croissant and the weiner circle croissant for breakfast and it was a perfect way to spend our Sunday morning. Would def come again! read more
