Server was nice but just customer service wasn't really there, just came in to check on us once briefly but nothing over the top. For food we ordered the potted carrots and fritto misto for apps. Mains we got were the gnocchi and rainbow trout. All the food was great! The fritto misto consist of all bartered and fried cheese curds, mushrooms, and eggplant, with a tarragon sauce. I LOVED the sauce, it went very well with all of it. The potter carrots had an interesting texture and we were a bit unsure how it was supposed to be eaten all together? We weren't the biggest fan of it but the flavors were still good. The gnocchi was pillowy soft and the mushroom was a yummy addition. Daisies has been on my list for a while and we were finally able to stop in. I was hoping to try their pasta but they have a specific lunch menu focused on sandwiches. I also like the cafe at the front, so we ended up trying: - Sprint Onion Feta Tart - Coffee Cake - Chicken Parm - Turkey Rachel The sandwiches somehow tasted light, like the flavor was there but you didn't feel greasy or bloated. The restaurant was not particularly busy and there were plenty of servers. I think it's worth going if you happen to find a reservation open at a good time, but I'm not sure it's worth setting alerts etc. for. We ended up waiting for quite a bit after we checked in despite having a reservation, but our server was super welcoming and gracious. The standout for the night was the cheese curds and fried veggies, and for a place that's known for the pasta, the best course being the app was a little disappointing. I have been wanting to come here for years and I was so excited to finally check it out!! I went here with five of my friends for our monthly supper club and we tried a ton of dishes. The pastas definitely shine through here and you can tell that they are homemade. We try to be rigatoni, parpadelle and stacci. All were incredible, but we loved the stacci the most. In terms of appetizers, we had the onion dip with homemade ruffles (incredible), smashed cucumbers, mixed green salad, frito miso and potted carrots. For dessert, we split the raspberry pretzel pudding and the blueberry doughnut. Again, all of the food is so great and fresh here, but the desserts really shine through. You can always tell when there is a pastry chef in house and these desserts are outstanding. Came here for my birthday and finally got to try out the dinner menu. We had to wait a bit for our table as it was quite crowded but I'm glad we had a reservation. Our server was very helpful and kind and helped us decide what we could order that catered to my vegetarian diet. We started off with the onion dip, N/A wine, and house cola and everything was delicious. We then had the ravioli and the rigatoni. The ravioli was good but the rigatoni was really sour / salty and just not great in general. We told our server and she immediately asked us if we wanted another dish but I think we were full at that point so she ended up removing it from our bill which was appreciated. We then ended with the raspberry pudding dessert and I got a mini birthday chocolate cake that was also pretty good. I have been wanting to go to Daisies for months if not close to a year. I made a reservation for 2 and my friend ended up cancelling, but I chose to go anyways! I have to say the ladies at the host stand were very lovely. I sat at the bar as I ended up being solo and they transferred my reso deposit to my first check. The first shift ended and they added my deposit and i was able to put my own tip. The second shift started and I finished the second part of my meal with no disruptions. Service was attentive, but nothing exceptional. If anything the bar people seemed more interested in chatting with each other and forgot a few things like a plate for me to eat off and silverware twice. They were by no means bad or mean, but it was fine service. I ordered the HH dip chips and caviar add on, the HH cheese trio, the brussel sprout salad, a pasta, and the pork.The pork came out cold, but they quickly replaced it for a new warm one. I have to admit the food was just average. The food was definitely fresh and the quality was great, but the flavors lacked a lot to be desired. I was ready to be wowed and i found it pretty underwhelming. I also ordered an espresso martini. My total bill was around $160-170 My last complaint has to be the 25% service charge. We had a really nice dinner at Daisies for our anniversary. We came a little early for our 5pm reservation. They weren't seating for dinner yet but the bar was open for happy hour so we had a few apps there while waiting for our table. The restaurant is beautiful and clearly very new. We tried the onion dip since everyone recommended it. While I thought it was good and really enjoyed the homemade chips, I thought it was a pretty basic onion dip. I enjoyed the Fritto Misto a lot more and really liked the tarragon aioli. I was going back and forth between using that dip and the onion dip and both were very good with the Fritto Misto. The potted carrots were also good and different and the gnocco fritto was super salty and delicious. For dinner we shared two pastas. The mushroom pappardelle was tender and very delicious. Started off ordered the grilled onion toast wuth bone marrow- the toast was complete burned on top and bottom but they layered the onion on top perhaps in hope that we wouldnt notice. The food here is EXCELLENT. We started with the little gem salad, which was simple but delicious--well dressed with a lot of cheese for added flavor. We then did family style with the pappardelle, the raviolo, and the rigatoni. All were perfectly al-dente. The raviolo is one big ravioli which made splitting a little more difficult, but the flavor was AMAZING so it's a no-skip in my opinion. The rigatoni was also so good, a little bit of a kick and the breadcrumbs added a nice crunch/textural contrast. The pappardelle was good but was outshone by the other two in terms of big flavor. We then got the chocolate crunch cake, which was good but not anything toooo unique; however, the chocolate peanut butter brownie cookie dough ice cream is a MUST--so creamy and the flavor is unmatched. Overall for dining, 10/10 on the food and the portions were reasonable. We went in the 90+ degree heat and it was very toasty in the restaurant so that was not ideal (sweat was sticking to the seat), but not too noisy and very cute atmosphere. With a botanically decorated, converted loft-style interior, Daisies is a gentle farmhouse oasis amongst the hustle and bustle nearby on Milwaukee avenue. The colors are mostly earth-tone with an emphasis on a more yellowy palette, keeping with the flowery theme of the restaurant. The servers are relaxed and comfortable, lacking some of the unnecessary pomp that can be driven by tipping culture, and the food is proudly served from partnerships with local farms. Dinner feels a bit more like sitting down at an old friend's house than it would at a more traditional restaurant. To some, the automatic 25% service charge would be unappealing, but I found the rendered experience to be actually quite pleasant. For my cocktail, I enjoyed the Fig Carré. It was lusciously smooth with an excellent mixture of bright but subtle aromatics and deeper honey and caramel flavors. For food, we started with the beet salad before moving onto the pierogi and stracci and finishing with the trout. The flavors of the beet salad were well-curated, but it was the frustrating sort of salad where you really have to work to assemble a good bite. The pierogi were astoundingly delicious. The sauce reminded me a bit of Marsala wine which, combined with the mussels and deep browning on the pierogis, yielded a layered umami profile. The stracci was also excellent, with the subtly herbed lamb offering a succulent and almost sweet profile to play against the nuttiness of the accompanying cheese. The trout was certainly vibrant, although it looked much better than it tasted. I've certainly had better cooked and better flavored trout almandine. For dessert, I sampled the pretzel cream puff, which was really exactly as you might expect -- salty and creamy. I don't know what the hype is all about. Neither pasta did it for me. The best thing we order was onion dip. I had to switch drinks with my boyfriend because I was not loving mine. We were an easy table so our waitress didn't seem to have to check in on us often. But the gentleman taking care of our dishes, glasses - he was on it, I believe his name was Edgar. This place absolutely lives up to the hype! Someone at work told me this was their fave restaurant so I booked 3 1/2 weeks in advance - this Friday the day finally came. Started with a green salad and the inventive potted carrots as apps. The salad was fresh and light, maybe would have preferred one or two more elements for the price, but tasty. The potted carrots were the most creative and delicious thing we have seen in a while - no notes! For dinner we had the mushroom pappardelle and the corn raviolis. As someone who is not a huge meat eater, both of these were outstanding. The ravioli was sweet so I probably couldn't eat a single dish alone, but sharing was perfect. You can taste the love that goes into making the pasta. The Pappardelle, stracci, and stuffed farfalle are all items I would come back for. There was a perfect amount sauce, meat, and stuffing for every single dish. The rainbow trout is hands-down one of my favorites. I love the way it was seasoned with the nuts, spice, and zest. The confit chicken leg was cooked perfectly, and the white beans added a nice buttery flavor to sauce/chicken. Dessert: Butterscotch Budino is something I would eat everyday if I could eat it everyday. So. Good. The tiramisu was ok. Drinks: I love that they did a drink flight on the menu because it's a great way to taste all the fun homemade items they have for their drinks. I also love that they have Lambrusco on the menu! I went here for Valentines day. The prefix menu was great. I had mushroom bruschetta for the appetizer the stuffed chicken thigh, which was both both were really really good. The end I've salad we didn't care for too much so we sent that back and got the carrot salad which was way better mushroom bruschetta was the best of the three appetizers. The stuffed chicken thigh was the entrée and that was really really good then for dessert I had the apricots it was like a pine nut tart with apricot filling and that was really good as well. The drink was the La Mandrina was so so good that little leaf on the top is a bay leaf cut to coin size and the presentation was lovely. Please, please if you are a local, or visiting, go to Daisies. Some of the best food I have ever eaten along with some of the best service I have ever received. To start: the interior is bustling. Minimalistically designed with dim lights, modern decor, and full of smiling patrons and workers alike. I got the farfalle and chicken fried quail. The farfalle was Incredible. Stuffed with pumpkin and finished with balsamic it was the perfect starter. It had a subtle sweetness that was balanced perfectly by the creamy pumpkin. I could not stop eating it. The chicken fried quail was fried to perfection. Crispy, juicy, and the presentation was superb. The quail is a delicate meat that was executed to perfection. The breading was salty and flavorful. The bar program is superb as well. I got their mushroom margarita which is savory and not as tart as your typical margarita. I loved it. The service was impeccable. Yasmine was my server and she was consistently checking in while also giving me some wonderful recommendations and breaking down the menu. Visited Daisies on a Saturday night for dinner with my teenage son. I was not at all prepared for the rush to get a dinner reservation in Chicago weeks in advance, but was glad we were able to get in! When we arrived, we were quickly greeted and brought to our table. Our waiter, Kelsie, was very friendly and happy to provide her recommendations. The menu is heavy on the pasta, so we decided to order three dishes to share. We had the spaghetti alla chitarra, the rigatoni and the corn and jalapeño raviolis. My son devoured the spaghetti, but my favorite was the raviolis, which he surprisingly loved as well. The texture and flavors of all three dishes were delightful and we left nothing behind. We also ordered a lemonade and kombucha, both were wonderful. Great experience overall! read more
