My dad and I stopped here to take a break from our six hour drive back to Houston. We were starving to say the least. The place is filthy (floor, tables, bathroom, the male cashiers hair, you name it). They were out of hot dogs and almost every drink option. We had to clean off our own table while the employees watched. Fortunately for us the wait time wasn't ridiculous but I lost my appetite when I saw the employee grab the ketchup packets with her bare hands and place them directly on top of my fries. First of all, I was going to eat those fries and secondly the ketchup packets were covered in some sticky substance. We ate what we could because we were starving but we will definitely never stop at this location again.

Got our orders right, though our ice cream cone was broken before they have it to us. The person kept pressuring us to hurry and finish placing our order. The employee kept saying is that it? All right drive through. Glad we only ordered desserts.

This was the box it came in..

We went into this very clean place today.sweet young lady waited on us at the window..I just ordered a chili cheese dog...husband ordered 2 corn dogs..we got a number 3...we ordered a soft drink ..we got them ourselves..no problem..they delivered our food promptly..I was so surprised. MY CHILI CHEESE DOG WAS HUGE..WAY MORE THAN I EXPECTED ..IT WAS DELICIOUS TOO. HUBBY LIKED HIS TOO!..For dessert we each had a banana split ..again nice quality desert..such a nice clean place..great fast service, quality and quantity were a true surprise..Thank you ..

I hate to pile on, but this place is a disgrace. Everything in the restaurant is broken, dirty--or both. Give this place a miss.

I was pleasantly surprised at the absolutely amazing freshness and quality of the food and modern/light atmosphere of this place (a bit unexpected after a few lackluster food experiences in Schulenberg leading up to our lunch here). It was every bit at good as some of the cafes I've eaten in major cities (where there is heavy dining competition). Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!

The lamb burger was a perfect medium and juicy. The fish tacos were perfectly fried mahi-mahi filets on a fresh flour tortilla and perfectly dressed. Call me old fashioned, but I judge a burger joint by their standard burger. No frills, no gimmicks,…read moreno tricks. Just your standard burger, your #1. A burger has to stand on the strength of their beef, after all, and how are you going to taste that with gimmicks and special sauce? Well, I opted for the #2, which differs from the #1 in that it's a double. It is Texas Burger, and everything has to be bigger in Texas, right? The #2 is a double, 2/3 lb burger. I got the combo which came with seasoned fries and a fountain drink. You'll find no complain from me here. It's an excellent, fast food burger. The burger was size-able and juicy, and the flavor was delicious. You can compare it to the ilk of Whataburger or DQ, and that's not bad company to be in. The seasoned fries were delicious, not over cooked and seasoned just right. I am a little disappointed that this a fast food place, rather than a gourmet burger restaurant, but I'll blame the advertising on I-10 for that, and it didn't take away from the taste or experience for me.

What an experience! I decided to stop here for a burger and a shake on the way home from Houston…read moresince I had once tried the Texas Burger in Madisonville and liked it. First there was the drive-thru. The speaker doesn't work, there is no sign warning you, and somehow you are supposed to know what you want when you get to the window. Fine for those regulars familiar with the menu but they have no paper menu to look at when you get there. So the kid starts reciting it. To make it easy I ordered a double Texas burger dry with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and lots of onion. Kid didn't know what flavor ice cream for the shake they had, so he had to go look and memorize the flavors So I pay and wait. My receipt comes back saying no onion after ordering extra and nothing about dry. So they had to remake the burger and give a proper receipt. Everything was a big production, a comedy of errors by a completely clueless and incompetent crew with no adult supervision. I ate my burger while waiting for my shake and it was good. But I surely wouldn't recommend using the drive thru. Yelp was down for service else I'd have checked in. The business shares a spot with Subway and was hard to find as signage is poor despite being near the freeway.

Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.
