Recent former Employee here, so take my word. NEVER come to this Dairy Queen. Working here opened my eyes to how disgusting it is behind the scenes. Ideally, it's supposed to be clean and follow health code. Our managers re-use old ice cream that has been sitting out all day, and put it in big containers in the walk-in freezer to use the next day. The employees who cook the food never use gloves or wash their hands, and touch the food with their hands. The housemade gravy is supposed to be made new every day, but we save what's left after every night and never throw it out. If you ever get a blizzard here, its re-used day-old icecream. The food (Chicken, Fries) is cooked when they open in the morning, and is only reheated to order, which makes it very stale and stiff. Wow...2 nights in a row we tried/visited the Dairy Queen out in Vail. Last night we drove up around 8:45p, supposedly the store is open till 9p. We waited at the speaker for about 5mins and no one responded. Went around the drive thru and there was a car at the window with the person in the car chatting with the employee, must have been a friend and reason for them to be ignoring the speaker. Got to the window at 8:59 and the employee told us that they were closed! Tonight we decided to venture out again and try one more time. This time we drove up at 8:20p, lobby lights were already off! I thought they closed at 9p . We asked the employee at the window what time their lobby closes and he stated 9p, at this point the time was 8:35p. Made it to the speaker and placed our order. Picked up our treats and as we drove away we noticed that the order was incorrect, drive thru here we come again. We waited for four other cars that were now in line in front of us. We get to the speaker and informed them of their mistake and we mentioned that we would need the blizzards remade since they were going to be melting since now we had to wait for four cars ahead of us to get their orders. Once we got to the window the kid (after we explained again why we were coming back through) asked if we got eaten any of the blizzards. We said no we had not. He grabs the bag with the two blizzards and the dilly bar. I'm pretty sure they just put the correct dilly bar in the bag and handed us back the same blizzards as they were melted by the time we got home. They think that because it's an isolated area and that people will come no matter what, they can treat their customers like s**t. I ordered a chicken sandwich here and the meal costs over $10. I asked for some sauce to try and they would only give 2 and would have to charge if I wanted anything more. The employees shouldn't need to make a fuss when requesting for a couple of sauces. The employees also became flustered and didn't know what to do when asking for something like utensils. They are located out in the middle of nowhere in comparison to other dessert shops, so they have to pay more for delivery most likely. No matter what size Vanilla Cone you order the small, medium and Large , they are all the same size but the price for each is more expensive. Location number 2 all have different prices as well but the size you order is what you get. The Large was bigger than enormous and for over 4 bucks it should be. The Vail location falls way behind !! This is the worst Diary Queen out there. This is the second time I've been recently. (I've been going for over 5 years) and I've got lucky getting the same skinny dude who hates his job. The first time I went and ordered he was rude. This time I thanked him after my order and he literally said "yep". I pulled around and asked why he said that. He said he didn't. But then I remembered he did the same thing to me last time but it thought I misheard him. I told him that these looked nothing like the picture. I got the Reese blizzard, cookie dough and a Oreo. This was my first impression here- then when I got to the window and wanted to ad something else (because she rushed me initially) she acted like it was the end of the world. This Dairy Queen is a go to if you live in Vail AZ.. and if you like Orange Julius' then this is where to get one. The service is good and the place looks clean but the reason for the three stars is that this particular Dairy Queen is not a grill and has a limited menu (no burgers) at this location although the do have a few regular food items to choose from on their menu.. which was a little bit of a bummer for me upon first moving out here and there not being a lot to choose from. We have lived in Vail for 2 1/2 years. Occasionally we will go to the Dairy Queen, mainly because there is nothing much around and choices are limited. They are usually very rude and irritated to do their job. Today will be the last time we ever go back. It's took the girl working the drive thru 5 minutes before she said ANYTHING to us at all, to the point where we thought they were not open. She must have heard us talking because she came on and said "Hold on!" All we got was a kids meal. We had to wait an additional 5 minutes to get out food and of course on top every person we had to deal with today, the food was cold. This was the last time. I always come to this DQ since it's so close. I've experienced the rude customer service, but it seems to always be the same male worker. I'm not sure if it's due to under staffing issues since I only noticed it during COVID. They always get my order right and I also noticed this location gives bigger sizes than I'm used to. I have been through the drive through and gone inside this location. I have two impatient children and the service in my experience is always fast and friendly. I usually order mini blizzards and we all share. Even eating inside they were efficient and kind. The location has always been clean when I have been inside, even on busy days. I asked for a mini to be split between two cups once knowing it would be a pain for them. The girl was super nice and explained she wasn't allowed to split it but gave me the extra mini cup free so I could do it myself. I was very appreciative. Late night eaters at this establishment need to know they'll be asked to move to the patio to eat their dinner even on a cool evening (62F with a breeze) because "that's the owner's policy at closing time." Very inconsiderate. It's fast food and it's not like we're gonna be there for long. There's plenty of cleanup work to be done while the last customers are eating. And cleanup should include the filthy patio tables that me, my wife and another couple were banished to. Then we had a good laugh when DQ actually turned the lights out on us while on the patio, and none of us had brought candles to have a romantic DQ dinner! So rude. I absolutely love DQ and get mad when my Georgia Mud Fudge has chocolate chips instead of brownies or too little fudge and it's more like a Georgia Mud Vanilla. Anyway, I probably go to this DQ way too often but that helps me to rate the consistency, right? It's a great DQ - very few errors lately, if any (more so in the first year of opening). Staff is friendly. My pups in the car will sometimes be offered a pup cup without even asking for one. Went to the drive-through at this Dairy Queen last weekend to order a blizzard and two shakes. The girl who took our order acted like we were ordering a dozen different items, (she literally asked me to slow down when I had only ordered a small Resees Blizzard), she was confused and rude throughout the entire order but I was with my daughters and so we just kind of blew it off. When we got to the window the lady there was even worse than the one taking the orders, she pretty much had a scowl on her face while she threw our ice cream out the window. The ice cream wasn't good, my blizzard was pretty much just vanilla ice cream and the girls didn't like their shakes. Terrible service. I was in the drive through trying to get some ice cream, and I accidentally dropped my gift card that I brought to pay for the food. I couldn't find it after lots of searching right in front of the pay window. I told the employees that we will come back and pay for it in the actual store when I get the gift card from under the seat. I got the gift card and I went back in to receive and pay for the ice cream. As I'm waiting, I overhear one employee asking what happened to just a couple minutes ago and another employee responds saying "they were stupid and they dropped their gift card." Before he could say anything else, I interrupted saying that I was back to pay for the ice cream, and I found the gift card, I was appalled by the absolute rudeness from the employees. I paid, and left with my food. It made me feel extremely uncomfortable. No one apologized. The manager did not seem to reprimand their employee at all.
