We were fortunate enough to visit one of the more popular locations in Uncle Mike's Bake Shoppe. They were pretty busy when we arrived. Looking inside there is a refrigerated section with some homemade goods, some doughnuts and fresh baked bread, and the piece de resistance, the kringle. They had several flavors including blueberry and caramel apple which they were unfortunately out of. We ended up selecting two halves since we couldn't make our mind and you only live once. We went with the Door County Cherry and Strawberry Cream Cheese. They also had some very generous samples available. First of all, the "half" kringle is huge. Looks more like a whole kringle. We really enjoyed each of them. Both flaky, buttery and tender. Loved the Door County Cherry but we might give the edge to the Strawberry Cream Cheese. That is a really tasty and indulgent combination. They do ship their kringles however getting a fresh one is a special treat. Some of the best kringles that we have ever had!

They actually serve Chocolate Shoppe's ice cream so we knew it would be good. They are tucked away in a corner of nearby Howard, but aren't unknown as a steady stream of locals came by during our visit. They feature 40 flavors of Chocolate Shoppe ice cream - can't ask for more! I had Scotcheroo, butterscotch peanut butter ice cream with chocolate rice crisps - yum. My wife had Caramel Chaos, caramel ice cream with caramel swirls - a caramel lover, this was right up her alley. Plus we had great, friendly service from the girl handling our orders. Two thumbs up on Brain Freeze.

Deanna and her team are the real reason my GPS keeps rerouting me back there like it's a rescue mission for my soul (and sweet tooth). Walked in for "just one scoop." Left with a cone taller than my future and a smile so big I had to hold it with both hands. The ice cream? Creamy, dreamy, and possibly churned by angels. Prices? Let's just say I paid less for my sundae than I did for a bottle of water at the gas station. That's sorcery. Delicious, creamy sorcery. Deanna, the mastermind behind this frozen wonderland, is the kind of person who probably gives ice cream to her enemies just to win them over. Her helpers were so friendly and upbeat, I thought I'd wandered into a Disney movie--minus the musical number (although I did hum while eating). Bottom line: Brain Freeze is what would happen if Willy Wonka ditched the chocolate and focused on making the happiest ice cream shop on Earth. 10/10, will absolutely be back... once my taste buds forgive me for the cold snap. We were seated in a booth and immediately noticed that the cleanliness of the establishment was below standard, with spider webs in the corners and dead flies in the light fixtures. I ordered a Blue Moon beer with an orange slice, served in a bottle. However, the server poured it into a glass without asking, commenting that they thought I would prefer it that way. I would have appreciated being asked first, as I would have ordered it differently if that were the case. For our meal, we ordered the Superoni pizza--a hand-tossed pizza generously topped with pepperoni--and an order of cheese sticks. The cheese sticks were visually appealing and tasted excellent. The pizza also looked promising, featuring a nice airy crust with appealing burn patterns and plenty of pepperoni. Unfortunately, the quality did not match the appearance. The pizza was overloaded with cheese to the point of excess, and the sauce tasted like it came from a can, lacking freshness. Despite these issues, we ate without complaint at the restaurant. However, after returning home, both of us became quite ill, which raises serious concerns about food safety. Based on this experience, we cannot recommend this restaurant and advise others to exercise caution.
