My not-so-full Orange Julius and one messy milkshake wanna be.
    Jim K.

Stopping by on my way home, I am craving an Orange Julius and my son asked for a S'mores milkshake. I read exactly how my son wanted it so I did not mess it up and ordered a medium Orange Julius. The kids working were nice and helpful and handled the line well. But my drank was 3/4 full and the "milkshake" was a mess. I get home and I am told it was a Blizzard and not a milkshake. My son he gets them all the time at this location. I called and the person said they would text their boss and leave a note and they would get in touch with me today. I wasn't waiting by my phone for the call, but waited to post this review until the end of the day. As of 5:08, still no call.

Pretty good, but the customers are jerks. Best to go when it isn't busy. The workers know their job and keep it moving.

"Well, Lordy, Lordy, Lordy, Ms. Claudy Girl, you sure look…read moregood to me" (Elvis Presley) Sweet Claude's may be one of the more difficult to find ice cream stores around, so your mindset better be "determination" focused, because I guarantee you'll be very happy with your dish or cone. You'll find them tucked away pretty much out of view inside the Artsplace building (493 W Main) within the Ball and Socket Art Complex in Cheshire. They've been cranking out homemade ice cream since 1988, and we had a stellar experience when we visited. They have plenty of ice cream flavors (including some nonfat and sugar free), plus yogurts, sorbets and ices. Some of their interesting flavors are Claude's Cupcake, Dough - Si -Dough, Salty Pretzel, Smurf, and a "Banana Corner" which is a rotating selection of banana-based ice cream. How cool! I went with a 2-flavor small dish of Salty Pretzel and Triple Chocolate. The ice cream was smooth as silk and full of flavor. Seriously, their ice cream is terrific, and at $5.35 for a big enough cup, was a very fair value. PRO TIP Because Sweet Claude's is in the Ball and Socket Art Complex there are many sections within the complex to park your car. But only park in front of Sweet Claude's if you plan on staying there for no more than a half hour. Visitors to the rest of the complex or the Farmington River Trail should leave those precious spots to the ice cream afficionados!

I've had their Graham Jam ice cream at the Micro Creamy of CT and is where I first learned about them. The Big Dipper's shop in Prospect was a 20 minute drive for us. The shop was very cute, classic ice cream shop vibes with a lot of indoor seating. There were freezers with ice cream pies, cakes, sandwiches, and pints or quarts of ice cream. They had a lot of hand scooped ice cream flavors from classic to original flavors. There were a few soft serve flavors available too. Since they make their own ice cream there were flavors that were unique to them. I got a scoop of Purple Cloud--a purple cotton candy base ice cream with a marshmallow swirl and Lemon Pie--lemon base ice cream with pie crust pieces. These flavors packed a punch and the Purple Cloud was fun for all ages. I don't remember the last time I had eaten cotton candy flavored ice cream, but the marshmallow swirl was a great touch to a nostalgic flavor. I got my ice cream in a waffle cone which was very delicious and had little bits of caramelization. My mom wanted a special soft serve flavor that the Big Dipper had advertised for the weekend. They called it Butterbeer, a twist of sweet cream and butterscotch. The girl helping us had no idea what we were talking about, but finally confirmed that they had the special soft serve flavors. We think my mom's cone was only the butterscotch flavor, but the soft serve was so soft it started melting immediately. No picture because it didn't look to pretty. Fortunately, the flavor was good and that's what really matters. I'd say stick to the hard ice cream flavors at Big Dipper. I look forward to visiting them again to see what they'll craft up because I'm always looking for flavors you can't get anywhere else.

I sampled one flavor that I thought was decent, but I decided to order the Red Velvet Cake flavor which looked good and tasty. I liked the Red Velvet Cake flavor. It was a bit of a cheat code in the best possible way. I mean -- combine ice cream and one of the best cakes, and you're ahead of the game. The waffle cone was good too, but it had a big hole in the bottom. Luckily, I noticed Dixie cups on the counter. So I just placed the cup under the cone. Service was pleasant and efficient. Sundae Afternoon was a good ice cream shop and is worth visiting. I wouldn't say it's with the top tier CT places though. Four Stars

Upon arriving, the ladies serving you were the sweetest. Offering us a taste of the ice creams, announcing their specials and pointing out pre-made frozen treats in a separate freezer across from the main counter. The main counter has all the hard ice creams on display. They have hard ice creams from The Ice Cream Club, a company from Florida. This is my first time trying this ice cream and different the other ice cream shops in the area who serve Giffords Ice Cream, Praline's Ice Cream, etc. They have a few dairy-free options too. I got two scoops of the Stellar Coffee flavor. The ice cream was light, rich coffee flavor with a thick fudge swirl and a generous amount of mini dark chocolate coffee cups. My husband tried the Strawberry Shortcake Bomb, their take of the Good Humor bar. There was strawberry ice cream in the center, wrapped in vanilla, and rolled in the strawberry shortcakes pieces. They had other fun flavors and treats like a Neil's Donut Ice Cream Sandwich (would love to try this next). Sundae Afternoon is in a great area that we pass by often. It's next to a Subway and across the street from the Yalesville Veterinary Hospital. They have dog friendly ice cream treats too. For a small shop, it's very open. The dining area is spacious, walls painted in a fun, bright orange color. Can't wait to see more of Sundae Afternoon and what they have in store when the weather heats up!
