My spouse ordered online (we had a big order) and when his brother arrived to pick up the order, only the blizzards and banana split were made. Which is completely odd because we also ordered 4 entrees. The staff asked my brother-in-law to step inside while they made the food. When he got inside, he explained to them that the ice creams were going to be melting because they still had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for the food to be made which then they put them in the freezer while they completed our order. It wasn't very busy so the confusion on our order was not understandable. They handed my brother-in-law, the food and the ice creams, and when they got home, obviously half of everything was cold they forgot our drinks and the ice cream & blizzards, (which aren't cheap) were melted. My brother-in-law proceeded to call corporate to let them know what happened. They told him that the owner/manager would be contacting him/my spouse back and he just received the call from the manager which we spent almost $70 on the meal and all she was willing to do was remake one meal. We've had several instances of bad customer service at this location, which Bastrop doesn't have very much to offer so we like Dairy Queen but we will no longer be coming to this location because their service is crap. I will definitely be sure to tell all of our friends here in Bastrop about our service too. The manager took lack of accountability for her staff. And definitely wasn't concerned about customer satisfaction. And from my experience and owning a small business, the best way to hurt somebody is through their pockets. read more

Ordered a large two-layer cake for a birthday 2 days before I needed it. The gentleman took the order, assured me it was made just like the picture on the large lobby display. It was not. There was no chocolat soft serve at all even though they told me it would be 1/2 chocolate soft serve on the bottom, have a crunchy chocolate middle and the top 1/2 would be vanilla soft serve. I would not have purchased the cake at all if I knew it was only vanilla. I specified either pink or yellow icing and that "Happy Birthday Linda" be written on it. It was scheduled to be picked up after 2 PM in 2 days. When I picked up the cake, the counter server couldn't find the cake and took a long time to tell me. She said it hadn't been make but I could get a one-week old cake from the public freezer but it could not say "Happy Birthdday". When I said I'd rather a refund, she spent a long time in the back to finally say they had a spare with yellow trim I could have but no one there had the skill to write "happy birthday" on it. I even offered to that myself but her "supervisor" told her they could not allow it. Bottom line - huge disappointment. I'm not sure where to start, but I do know that Dairy Queen will NEVER get another penny from me!!! My wife and I just wanted a little bit of ice cream went and ordered a small blizzard and a regular peanut parfait. The staff needs to be instructed on the simple dish of ice cream gets made AFTER the longer to make blizzard! That way both people get ice cream instead of one person getting a dish of cold liquid! And maybe it's just me but blizzards (even the large) would be mixed all the way to the bottom. Apparently they have new machines that can't reach the bottom of the small cups! Terrible service! We entered the building around 9:30pm (they close at 10). Employees were already mopping the floor and reluctantly agreed to allow us to order. The ambiance was definitely not nice with wet floors and visibly irritated employees.We expected to eat inside, but were handed our food in a paper bag and informed that they were closing and we would have to take the food to go. We ate in the parking lot and observed the employees shutting off all the lights and jetting out of there at 10pm. The drink machine was out of sweetener, so they only had diet drinks available. If you close at 10, you should not be shutting down and turning customers away at 9:30! Will not do business with this place again. I always get the chicken strip basket without the fries and a small M&M blizzard. It's my go to meal when I'm commuting. "My treat" or cheat meal. The chicken basket was good, pretty much met expectations but the blizzard was initially made incorrectly. I was in the drive thru so when I saw it I told the girl it wasn't made right; she argued with me, then slammed the window shut, minutes later came back with one that was still wrong, but I didn't want to fight her on it, because she was so offended and rude. So at yesterday's Yelp Elite event in Austin I didn't get as much to eat as expected. I had been super-hungry because I had eaten a small healthy salad for lunch and had been dreaming of pizza, cupcakes, and barbecue all day in anticipation. Anyway, so had everyone else apparently, so while I got to sample the wares, I left hungry. My husband and I debated on whether to stop at Sonic or at Dairy Queen on the way home. At Sonic I would have gotten some cheese tater tots and a chocolate malt, so a Blizzard at Dairy Queen seemed marginally less unhealthy and more reinforcing than that, so my vote was for Dairy Queen. When we pulled up to the menu we saw that they were having some 2-for-1 deals on some items, including corndogs. We found this extremely tempting, so our order ended up being a medium m&m/cookie dough Blizzard (for me ... I basically never stray from this combination since I only get Blizzards a few times a year and it's my favorite) and a small caramel brownie Blizzard (for him), and two corn dogs, one for each of us. Came out to $8.94 I believe, not bad. This was quite a bit of a departure for me because I generally don't order actual food at Dairy Queen after having many bad experiences with it as a youngster. However, everything we ordered was great. I was a bit worried because the Blizzards appeared very heavy on the toppings. That usually means that all of the toppings are right on top and that the rest of the cup is just plain crappy softserve. When we began to eat our treats, we found that though the bottom inch or so was pure softserve (which I think is necessary for them to do the stupid upside-down trick) the rest actually had a fair amount of toppings, so I was happy to be wrong. We took a break from our Blizzards to eat our corndogs, and they were suprisingly good as well. Most fast-food corndogs taste just like the okay-but-not great variety that can be found in grocery stores, but these had sweeter batter and milder meat, more like a scaled-down carnival corndog. I'm sure that means they are even more unhealthy and from even more dubious sources, but they sure did taste good. Not ready to start eating at DQ regularly, but this visit helped establish Dairy Queen as a place to go once in awhile for a decadent treat. read more

Familiar and safe I have made ritual of stopping halfway, or there about from Houston to Austin in Giddings, usaully at the tried and true DQ. This one is a new building and whole new updated restaurant. The old one was on the other side of the highway and the classic DQ style. I needed a snack and wanted some Anglo inspired tacos, like my moms. Restaurant was very modern and clean. Weird the first thing the guy behind the counter said to me was our computer is down? Like how is this my problem???? I order the 3 taco combo with tea. He put the order in whilst I waited for the registers to open for business. I had to wait 1 or 2 minutes but the tea was fresh brewed. Food was same ole familier qualitity and taste, light on the tomatoes??? beef not to greasy , they must spin the meat in a centrafuge to cut the grease out. Kinda funny that I looked up a Coffee shop in town and DQ is paying for an ad to appear at the top of the list, especially being that this is likely the WORST DQ I have ever been to! I have dropped in twice and the service is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! The first time I went through the drive through and they got my order wrong and gave me a Blizzard overfilled, but without a lid. The frosty was melting all over my hand and car before I even got on 71! The second time, they took forever to get my order done, so much so that 4 cars behind me got their orders and left the 1st window before anyone even came to the 2nd window, and 15 minutes later when someone finally came with my order of a 4 chicken strip basket and Blizzard, they forgot my Blizzard, then had to wait another 5 minutes for them to make it. Having learned from the last time, I asked if she could put a lid on it, I was completely dumbfounded when the woman took a lid and just smooshed down the Blizzard with it running down the sides! Before I could even get out of their parking lot it was already dripping all over me and the upholstery. I returned to the inside to speak to a Manager, and Cheyenne presented herself as the Manager in charge. I showed her the picture that clearly showed what the employee had just done and apparently DQ is spending all their money on advertising and not dealing with an obvious apathetic employee problem. Cheyenne could not have cared less about the issue and immediately became defensive, offering absolutely NO remedy to the situation. At least the previous time they screwed up my order, when I called in and spoke with Denise, he was very nice and told me to come back in and they would take care of it and they did. DISGUSTING CHILLI DOG. It was so gross I had to spit it out the second I put it in my mouth. I didnt even bother trying to eat the wiener bc it was so discolored. Honestly it was so bad it needs to be reported to the health department. The wiener looked sickly like a naked mole rat or a hairless cat. Idk but I do know wieners aren't that colored. The chili tasted like poop like absolute poop. I will be contacting whatever is Dairy Queen headquarters and the health department. Love DQ but this location is a challenge. The service is always painfully slow, has been for the 14 months we've lived nearby. Like each transaction takes an average of 10 minutes, even when it's not crowded. Then last week we went and the person taking the money and handing us our food was wearing her mask UNDER her nose. So, nose exposed, mouth covered. No thank you. Tried several times to call and give the manager feedback, but nobody ever picked up the phone. Probably they are understaffed. We're sad about this because we love DQ and used to go each week where we lived previously. Hopefully they will do something about this, we'd love to start going again. read more

After not eating at the Dairy Queen in Elgin, we made our way back to Bastrop. It's after 4:00 pm, and have not had lunch yet. Wow. Much different from Elgin. Upon walking in, we are greeted by a very friendly employee (Taylor). He appears to be genuinely happy to see us come in the store! I place my order for the Dude combo, with cheese. With tax, $6.79. The Dude sandwich was fresh. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. The fires were good, but could have been fresher. I forgot to ask for a side of gravy. They charge 50 cents for a side of gravy. Don't agree with this. I think this should be complimentary, just like ketchup, which I don't eat (dip my fries in gravy). Overall, one of the best Dairy Queen experiences in a long time. I attribute this mostly due to the fact that most Dairy Queen franchises have gone down hill in quality, but this one was pretty good. The big plus was the friendly staff. Way to go Taylor! read more
