Dairy Dip is another newly discovered gem that I have passed so many times over so many years yet have never stopped until Friday 25 SEP 2020. My family and I had just experienced a not so enjoyable dinner "up the road" in Belle Chasse and were feeling a little melancholy. Instead of turning around and heading back to New Orleans, we decided to drive south on Hwy. 23 for a ways. Like a beacon in a storm, we saw the sign for Dairy Dip and I knew that ice cream would have us all feeling better. This place has been a Belle Chasse staple for 50-60 years, and it screams nostalgia. And everyone who knows me knows I love nostalgic businesses. Although it doesn't appear spectacular from the outside, I hear the food they serve is top notch. This little roadside gem serves all kinds of classic foods like burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, po-boys, nachos, malts, shakes, ice cream, sno-balls etc. It's all walk up counter service here where you pay and "eat outside, or in your car (if the times you are in are unprecedented)." (This last sentence borrowed from Yelper Marielle S.) As we had already eaten, we got dessert. I wish we hadn't eaten because I think we would have enjoyed Dairy Dip more than the restaurant we had just patronized, but I digress. My son got a regular vanilla cone, I opted for the classic dipped cone and my wife got the dipped cone with peanuts. The ice cream here is delicious and served at the perfect consistency and temperature. Simply stated, it was delicious. Next time, we're going to order burgers and onion rings and make it a meal. This is a cute little spot on the side of the road to stop for ice cream or local food. They have ample parking and tables on the side of the building in the shade. They also provide great service, and the soft serve is delicious! I must admit, I just had fries and ice cream so I cannot personally comment on the rest of the food, but I've heard great things about it. I am definitely coming back! read more

I have patronizing Dairy Dip for 61 years an they have always provided quality food and great prices as well as great customer service. The manager has reached out and explained that an employee removed the sign announcing the reason for the surcharge for using credit card. David and I had a craving during these *unprecedented times* and Company Burger wasn't open, so we decided to go on a burger hunt. Well, first it was a snowball hunt, but either way you look at it, we ended up here. The place has been around for like 60 years and it's nothing spectacular, but they serve all kinds of classic foods like burgers, shakes, ice cream, hot dogs, etc. You walk up and pay and eat outside, or in your car (if the times you are in are unprecedented). We got cheeseburgers and David got onion rings and I got fries. The burgers were great. Maybe I was just super hungry, but it hit the spot. The fries were aiight- they could have used some salt, but I'm not complaining. For dessert, we got vanilla ice cream which comes soft serve style. WOW. OMG- it was delicious! I got a small and scarfed the whole thing- you know I can eat, y'all. They can make you a sundae, if you want to pay extra for a topping, but I was pleased with just the soft serve. Told by the housing lady at the Military lodge on the naval base. She gave us a menu and said that the Dairy Dip had the best Poor Boy sandwich in Louisiana. She was right!!! Cute little snowball stand & a true staple to Belle Chasse. Our go to is the chocolate malt but everything we've ever had has been great between food & desserts. There's a few tables for outdoor seating but it's loud being right off the highway so we usually take it to go lol. Kids working there are always nice. The only real difference, is instead of a bored teenager, reading a comic, there is a bored teenager scrolling through her phone. But she was attentive as soon as she saw us coming up. Now, one of my first jobs was at an ice cream shop in Opryland (Once upon a time, it was a big amusement park in Nashville and to this day, I can't stand to hear the song "Proud to Be An American")...but I digress. While the ice cream was good, their soft serve temp was off a little and the ice cream was melting immediately. Other than that, it was ok, while still being a bit antiquated. I had a large dreamsicle stuffed snowball with condensed milk (yes, oink oink) Jeff had a large cherry stuffed snowball and our total was only $6. Not bad for two sweet treats. My first sip I get juice! Ah! The sign of a good snowball! The ice is pretty smooth and the flavor is good. This place has been around since the 50's and you can have a flashback to the olden days here. The burgers are decent but certainly not great and fries come out hot but with salt on the side. The po boys here are alright and probably better than the burger. The real attraction here is the soft-serve ice cream and the desserts made with it. They also offer snowballs here year round. This place is BOMB! I come here for their shakes, they make the best shakes. My personal favorite being birthday cake flavor with condensed milk and whip cream. It tastes like a Tres leches cake! They've even gone as far as blending my shake with condensed milk and then driziling it on top of the whip cream. So good! read more

Dary dip is my favorite lunch spot in Belle Chasse. It is a small outdoor snowball stand with some fried food and alot of sandwhich options. All seating is outside on picnic tables, but the area is covered. I love the fried shrimp plate. It is affordable and the shrimp are fresh. Just a note, the shrimp are poboy size . I also love their hot dogs. The bun is always fresh. There is nothing special about the chili but its good. Burgers are also delicious and way better than the commercial fast food restauraunts. The fries are my least favorite item I've tried. I think they would be great covered in cheese and chili but as a stand alone, they are just okay. Not to sure what happened. I stopped by on my way to Venice for years and the burgers, fries and ice cream were delicious. But for reason unknown it went to crap. I stop by 2 times in the last month just to make sure it wasn't just an off day. The cheese burger was flavorless the patty had a grey look to it no seasoning the bun was hard and the tomato was rotten. I should have brought it back but I was already 20 miles down the road. Yes I did get me an ice cream and that was their only shining moment it was yummy. My fries were cold and had no salt on them I had some packets of s&p in the truck but it didn't help because they were cold and it would not stick to the fries. And no I didn't wait 20 miles to dig in to my fries I hit those up almost immediately. And what I find funny is that I had to wait for almost 10 minutes for my food after I had called it in and it took me 15 min to get there. How is it possible to screw ice cream up so badly? I went back a second time, thinking that perhaps the reason for my liquid ice cream was it being mid July. But come January it's almost just as bad. Soft serve is one thing. This is another. It's an awkward stage between soft serve and milkshake. The flavors are many... but only for sno balls. Ice cream flavors.. just chocolate and vanilla. And the toppings are limited. Price and serving size is good however. The parking lot is heinous. We got trapped by some dingus who parked his truck, with boat attached to the back right in front of the place, blocking every way to leave. Outside seating is dirty and unkept. The only way this place stays in business is that it doesn't have much competition nearby, and stuff like this is in high demand when you live in the Hell of the United States. read more
