    Vanilla dip with peanuts
    Mike C.

Dairy Dip is another newly discovered gem that I have passed so many times over so many years yet have never stopped until Friday 25 SEP 2020. My family and I had just experienced a not so enjoyable dinner "up the road" in Belle Chasse and were feeling a little melancholy. Instead of turning around and heading back to New Orleans, we decided to drive south on Hwy. 23 for a ways. Like a beacon in a storm, we saw the sign for Dairy Dip and I knew that ice cream would have us all feeling better. This place has been a Belle Chasse staple for 50-60 years, and it screams nostalgia. And everyone who knows me knows I love nostalgic businesses. Although it doesn't appear spectacular from the outside, I hear the food they serve is top notch. This little roadside gem serves all kinds of classic foods like burgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, po-boys, nachos, malts, shakes, ice cream, sno-balls etc. It's all walk up counter service here where you pay and "eat outside, or in your car (if the times you are in are unprecedented)." (This last sentence borrowed from Yelper Marielle S.) As we had already eaten, we got dessert. I wish we hadn't eaten because I think we would have enjoyed Dairy Dip more than the restaurant we had just patronized, but I digress. My son got a regular vanilla cone, I opted for the classic dipped cone and my wife got the dipped cone with peanuts. The ice cream here is delicious and served at the perfect consistency and temperature. Simply stated, it was delicious. Next time, we're going to order burgers and onion rings and make it a meal. Of course we are going to leave room for dessert.

Large chocolate, soft serve cone hit the spot. Good portion, good price. Friendly staff, open late.

I was a little angry on my last post about the surcharge for using a credit card . It was not my intention to down grade this establishment which has been around for may years . I have patronizing Dairy Dip for 61 years an they have always provided quality food and great prices as well as great customer service. The manager has reached out and explained that an employee removed the sign announcing the reason for the surcharge for using credit card. And the surcharge will not keep me from patronizing Dairy Dip.

The customer service was great. The ice cream was icy and not creamy. It didn't taste like icecream, but rather watery milk. The hardshell looked like chocolate, but had a wax taste. Sweet place to cool off, but not a place for icecream lovers.

David and I had a craving during these *unprecedented times* and Company Burger wasn't open, so we decided to go on a burger hunt. Well, first it was a snowball hunt, but either way you look at it, we ended up here. The place has been around for like 60 years and it's nothing spectacular, but they serve all kinds of classic foods like burgers, shakes, ice cream, hot dogs, etc. You walk up and pay and eat outside, or in your car (if the times you are in are unprecedented). We got cheeseburgers and David got onion rings and I got fries. The burgers were great. Maybe I was just super hungry, but it hit the spot. The fries were aiight- they could have used some salt, but I'm not complaining. For dessert, we got vanilla ice cream which comes soft serve style. WOW. OMG- it was delicious! I got a small and scarfed the whole thing- you know I can eat, y'all. They can make you a sundae, if you want to pay extra for a topping, but I was pleased with just the soft serve. We will definitely be back and it's pretty silly that I had never been here, even though I'm a lifelong Westbanker.

I had no idea that this place made hamburgers on French bread. They are delicious and the burger is huge for the price.

It's your classic soft serve ice cream shop. Good food and friendly service. It's also pretty much the only ice cream place around

This unassuming spot in a strip mall was gorgeous inside. And it serves coffee, pastries, ice cream plus y'know candy. AND they roast their own nuts, spices and I guess coffee beans. There were definitely folks hanging out and enjoying a Turkish style coffee... I guess either the caffeine doesn't hit them the way it does me or they had no plans to sleep. The candy isn't labeled 100% correctly but you kind of know that gummy worms are not gummy strawberries. I tried an assortment bag of gummies and some of chocolates and the price was by the pound. Re got some freshly roasted unsalted cashews and they were delicious! Parking is easy in the strip mall lot. And as you step in you definitely leave Louisiana and step into another country.

I settled on popcorn caramel and baklava in a waffle bowl. An employee said that everything was made in-house. The price was standard considering that all was made there. The service was weird. I kept getting served after people who'd gotten there after me. My ice cream scoops were significantly smaller than my boyfriend's. Returning isn't high on my list of priorities, but I'm glad I tried them.

Fast forward a few years, I am browsing an ice cream blog (theicecreaminformant.com), and come across a brand of ice cream called New Orleans Ice Cream Company. I had never heard of them before but their flavors seemed unique and I start craving a few of them. I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of it (Thank you, Adrian!) and started making my way through their flavors. New Orleans Ice Cream Company makes between16-20 different flavors of ice cream at any given time (They have some seasonal flavors). They stay local and make distinct New Orleans inspred flavors. Some of their flavors include, Cafe Au Lait & Beignets (Fantastic btw!), Coffee & Chicory, Creole Cream Cheese (Their most popular flavor), Ponchatoula Strawberry, Mardi Gras Pie, Praline Crunch etc. These ice cream pints are super premium ice creams which contain tons of flavor, great texture and the freshest ingredients they can get their hands on. It's not available in stores out here in AZ, yet, but if you want to get your hands on some of it, you can pick it up at icecreamsource.com. If you are an ice cream lover, you owe it to yourself to get a couple of pints. If you need a few suggestions, I would highly recommend the Cafe Au Lait & Beignets (Great coffee flavor, chewy donut pieces) , the Praline Crunch (Butter pecan tasting ice cream with candied pralines throughout) and the Baked Alaska (The owners favorite flavor which is packed with these crunchy meringue bits that are out of this world!). Any pint you choose, should be good. These guys are cranking out some of the best ice cream out there! I can't wait to make my way through the other pints that are sitting in my freezer. I have been extremely impressed so far and every pint I have tried, has been flat out delicious!

This brand can be a bit of a challenge to find and so far I have only seen it at local groceries like Rouse's, Zara's, Langenstein's, Dorignac's, Breaux Mart, Fresh Market, Winn-Dixie and Whole Foods. Their Po Boy Ice Cream sandwich is probably the finest ice cream sandwich I have ever had and I believe Parkway Bakery offers those also. I first tried their ice cream at a Yelp event and I have been a fan ever since. This stuff has to be really good to occasionally break me away from my normal Creole Creamery and Angelo Brocato's addiction.
