I hate to lower my review on Dairy Depot but a couple of years after posting my original review, Dairy Depot has not been as good. The staff are ALWAYS friendly and quick, no issues with the service whatsoever! My issue is the lack of products every time we visit. They are always out of something, at least one thing...usually two or three items, but it's always the cup sizes that were guaranteed to be out. The last time we went, I had ordered a large train wreck with cookie dough and snickers. They were out of the large cups and cookie dough. So then I said brownie instead, they were out of that, too. Eventually, I gave up and stopped coming. You shouldn't have to make three order ideas just in case the other two aren't available, and that's exactly what was happening. They need better stock management here. The ice cream is good but it's not worth the frustrations anymore. read more

I love this place. This is one of my new favorite ice cream spots. It is a drive through ice cream place or a walk up window. It is super small so it is easy to miss. Their menu is massive with so many different soft serve flavors. I got pistachio and it tasted good. I wish it had a stronger flavor in it but it certainly wasn't bad. They had a ton of Halloween themed shakes and sundaes. This would be a perfect place to come with your kids after practice. They took extra sprinkles seriously and they were a lot less expensive than other places. The seating area is decent with a few outdoor tables. The service was great and very friendly. My go to for soft serve! The theme (train / train station) is fun but isn't done in a tacky way. My favorite order is cake batter with marshmallow charms, yum! Even one of my cats demands a lick or two. Their menu is extensive including many (many!) flavors and topping options, sundaes, train wrecks (their version of a blizzard), floats, and non-dairy offerings. The Dairy Depot is a special kind of place, and it's not exactly a secret. This place gets BUSY. Their massive selection of ice cream and soft serve "train wreck" flavors separates them from their competitors. Even though the lines can get very long, the employees have a pretty good system to move people through in a timely fashion. The only "issue" I've run across is that they've been missing ingredients for multiple train wreck flavors during our last couple visits. Fortunately there are so many great ones to try that I'm happy even if I end up with my 3rd choice. They do get quite busy, so I've shown my wife that the only time of day when there's no line is around 5:00-5:30pm when everyone else is eating dinner. One of a number of ice cream places in Wake Forest, Dairy Depot is a winner. It's soft serve, and they can custom mix more than 20 flavors. It's a busy place, there always seems to be 5 cars in the drive thru and 5 people in line. Service is friendly and quick. In a big plus over many ice cream places (ya' hear me, DQ?), the shop is neat and clean, and the staff are, too. Ice cream is smooth and creamy, no ice crystals here. My chocolate malted is the perfect thickness for slurping, not too chocolaty with just the right amount of malt. Dairy Depot is already in the regular rotation and I'll definitely be back.... I'm still mind-blown with all of the different flavors the menu has. In case any of you were curious like me, the purple cow is grape and the wizard's brew is butterscotch. I ended up getting 2 separate junior ice creams (tiramisu, wizard's brew), and a small cherry dole whip--and it was all ~$5. My favorite ended up being the tiramisu (it was like I could taste the lady fingers and I loved the bits of chocolate). Closely behind in 2nd place was the cherry dole whip. I ended up not liking the butterscotch candy taste of the wizard's brew, but it's definitely personal preference since I'm picky when it comes to butterscotch. To my surprise, the soft serve dole whips change flavors seasonally, and currently they have the cherry dole whip. I was pretty apprehensive of trying it but the staff was so nice and offered me a sample. If you like cherry jolly ranchers then this is the dole whip for you! I like that it was well-balanced with creamy flavor too. For the price, the service, and great flavors, I would definitely come again. read more

What a great lil' spot. Was spending some time in the area with friends and we were all feeling like having some desert. Well, passing this spot earlier in the day I totally didn't expect it to be so full, but I should have looked at the Yelp page! But being full wasn't really a problem because with so much to pick from, it takes a minute to figure out what you want. I was being conservative and got the non-diary pineapple, which was just okay (too sweet!) and should've just messed with the diary. The sweetie got a 'Train Wreck,' a blend between an ice cream base and a topping, which was mad good. I had at least 1/3 of hers, cause I just couldn't resist. Our friends each got a mint chocolate shake and a pistachio Train Wreck (mixed with something). They were vets, so they knew what they were doing. The customer service was good too, with patient staff members (I would not have been that good!) so next time we're in Wake Forest, we'll definitely return. read more

I can't believe I've lived 4 years in wake forest and this is my first time coming here ! I always heard that people go there as a family outing with the kids so we decided to do that as well. It was my daughter's birthday, so after having sushi we stopped here for dessert. This place has a ton of flavors and they are able swirl just about anything you want. There are also lots of topings. My 2 kids, my wife and I we all ate for about 10 bucks that was awesome. I am not going to recommend any of the flavors we got be sure I assume that they quality is consistent based of what we tried. Great flavor and great price. They also have drive thru service if you are feeling lazy zzzzzz. Right before I left I realized that there was a second menu with drinks, floats, and other good stuff. Delicious! I ordered ice cream cake ice cream but they were out, so I then ordered the cotton candy train wreck and I'm almost glad they were out of my first choice. Dairy Depot is open during COVID 19. The drive thru and the walk up window can be used to order. The patio is closed for the time being. It is a busy place. Service is on point too. I usually get the Dole Whips here as they remind me of Disney and I love pineapple. They created a sundae with the Dole Whip and added mango topping. It was delicious. They also have train wrecks where you pick your ice cream and they add a mix in. The possibilities are endless. The prices are reasonable as well. read more

Suuuper disappointed in this spot. They had so many flavors so we got 4 pints to take home, but they all tasted very artificial. My coworkers and I drove all the way out to Wake Forest to try this place because we saw that they had Dole Whip. It's pretty darn close if not exactly like the one served at the Disney theme parks (minus the candy eyes). That alone was worth the drive. We also tried the red velvet train wreck, peanut butter cup train wreck, and peanut butter soft serve. The peanut butter was on the light side and some felt it didn't have enough peanut butter taste to it. I personally preferred the peanut butter cup train wreck. The banana splits that other people were ordering also looked amazing and I'll have to make another trip out to this place. Delicious turtle sundae, ice cream and other ingredients all tasted fresh. I do think that having to pay additional money for a flavor other than chocolate or vanilla in my sundae was unacceptable, so I had chocolate. It's almost five dollars for a sundae and that is plenty. Two things to point out were that there was only one employee working there and she was doing drive thru and walk up window, so by the time all four of us got our treats, two of us were almost finished. Also there were an over abundance of yellow jackets (bees) there, they were flying into our sundaes and this was unpleasant. I've been looking for a roadside stand like this since I moved to NC 6+ years ago, and I think I've finally found it. Back in NY and NoVA, we had roadside stands like this all over the place, so FINALLY, I can say I've found one in NC. The pumpkin Pie Train wreck was pretty good! My only complaint - closing on a holiday like Labor Day - it took a second trip out here to actually get to enjoy it. I came here with my 2-year-old niece and we loved the ice cream! It truly is a little Train Depot building and is located on a hill on Rogers Road. You can either walk up to the window and order or go through the drive-thru window. The attendants were dressed with train-themed hats and were really friendly. We got the Train Wreck which is the custard with candy bars and flavors mixed in. There are many flavors to choose from and I had the Almond Delight. The portions are very generous and a small was like a large. My niece had a kid's size strawberry and she loved it. I actually found the Dairy Deport in my Citypass book and like unique parlors that are not necessarily chains. They also service milkshakes and custard dipped with chocolate.
